No More Raritan Animal Hospital for me. I am livid. Telling me that Tilly was in early stages of Renal Failure. Not at all. I don't like their attitude any more, it is NOT the same place it was back in the days of 35 years ago with Dr. Sal, Dr. Jones, Dr. Torres. It was never about the money. They would clip my cats claws free of charge while examining. This past spring a male at the front desk wouldn't sell me flea products because I wasn't bringing in Tilly for well visits. He FINALLY did when I got outspoken. This latest situation with Tilly was truly upsetting. The first vet I saw said that Tilly was well hydrated, not constipated, heart and lungs good. Didn't know why she wasn't eating. Right away she said we can do blood work, appetite stimulant pill and x rays. WOOOO...one step at a time. So I agreed with the blood work and pill. Mind you, my cat was a happy cat when I brought her in. After they gave her MIRTAZAPINE , within one hour she was making a weird vocalization sound, vomited and looked weird. She was not the same cat. I called the vet to inquire about side effects and immediately they said NO SIDE EFFECTS. Your cat vomited because you have a very sick cat. I looked up that med and BINGO, tons of veterinary sites besides cat sites / forums said it has side effects, vomiting included. I called back to Raritan. Once again they insisted that my cat was very sick and that is why it she is vomiting. I know my cat and she was fine until she got that pill. The next day they called me with her blood results. " Basically the blood work is normal but the CREATININE IS SLIGHTLY ELEVATED. THUS SHOWING SIGNS OF EARLY RENAL FAILURE. I WOULD SUGGEST BRINGING HER IN TO DO X RAYS.I remember in years past that my friend  told me about the vet that she used to use. VERY cautious and doesn't jump into doing tons of tests right away. Took Tilly yesterday. He gave a complete exam, we talked a lot about her history. I brought ALL of her paper work from past Vet visits. Outcome : I have a happy healthy cat. Granted she is a senior so I don't know why she has bouts of not eating. He did say that MAYBE she COULD have a slow growing cancer in her BUT let's wait and see. Bring her back to get weighed in a month. IF she loses weight, then we will progress from there. Seems like a reasonable answer to me. I went to Raritan Animal Hospital a few times with my dog aggressive and fearful dog, Nellie. They really know how to handle these types of dogs there. There was a side entrance that we used every time. The vet techs were all so nice, loved Nellie, and didn't become anxious handling her. We saw several of the vets there as well and they were all very nice. I never waited too long and the waiting room was never crowded. When there was a wait, they called me in advance and gave me the option to reschedule. I wish I still lived in the area so I could continue taking Nellie here. Read Less

These people really love animals. They treat them as if they were their own pets. The doctors we saw were excellent explaining everything clearly and in terms that we were able to understand. I have been bringing our dogs to Raritan Animal Hospital for a few years now and am just now getting down to writing a review. The staff here are friendly and quite helpful. I brought both dogs in today and checked in only to find out I was one day off and early! They managed to still accommodate me but I just had to wait a little while for an available vet to see both of our dogs. The techs here are awesome with my dogs. They understand that I have one dog that can be difficult while the other loves everyone and wants to play with everyone. I was put into a room so my one dog wouldn't cause a commotion (whew) and the other one could relax. I may have waited 30 mins but it was worth it bc they were both seen...one for her shots and a nail trim and other for a lump check (he's a boxer). I'm so happy to have a place I can go to with reasonable prices and such friendly staff. Read Less

I've had some pleasant and some less pleasant visits to RAH. This made me a little reluctant to take my dog here again, however, because this is where we've been going for a couple years now and the closeness in location, I decided to take my dog when he had an abnormal growth on his front leg. This was our first time seeing Dr. Smith and I will continue to ask for her when bringing my dog in. She was friendly, informative, detailed, and professional. Her overall demeanor is approachable and reliable. She was quick to follow up with me when my dog's test results were in and even took the time to check if the medications were available, check the prices, and put them aside for me to pick up in the morning even though it was way past their closing time. Horrible experience. I arrived with my dog in an emergency situation. I walked in the door. Signed in. The receptionist waited for me to fill out all my information. She then asked me if I had an appointment. I said yes. She then told me I had to leave and go elsewhere because there was no one available to treat my dog! Total waste of time! Thank God this was not a life or death situation! Thank you for the response. Maybe you should ask your employee that was at the front desk with the short dark hair what she did with the paperwork she had me fill out before she turned me away while my dog was throwing up blood! Dr. Vogler is an ANGEL!!!!!   My poor cat is so sick and she could not have been any more loving and caring.  Her initial thoughts on my cat's diagnoses (Hyperthyroidism) were 100% accurate.  Within 24 hours of seeing him, my cat was tested, properly diagnosed and on medication.   I cannot thank you all enough for the wonderful service we received. Although most of my experiences with Raritan Valley Animal Hospital have been positive or neutral, some recent events have made me feel strongly otherwise. My dog dislocated his leg and when we brought him in was misdiagnosed. Because of the misdiagnosis, we missed the window to operate completely safely on his leg. We went to a specialist for surgery and something went wrong and my dog died. This on its own would be enough to make me wary, but I recently looked into adopting another dog for my family. The adoption agency asked for the Vet information, so I gave them their phone number. The Vet seemingly had incomplete records, and told the agency that my dog had never been neutered, and was behind on shots (extra ridiculous because we brought him in 2 months before his death for a check up). I forgave them for misdiagnosing because mistakes happen, but clearly this office is unorganized and dangerously incompetent. There are plenty of better Vet offices in Edison and Highland Park. I am completely appalled by the lack of service at Raritan Animal Hospital. I have been taking my dogs here over the past 15 years, and within the past year I have moved out of the town into NYC. I called them to inquire about a complicated pet relocation process and since the receptionist had no clue as to what the process was, I asked if the doctor could give me a call to go over the basic general information of the overall process. I did not ask for specific information relating to my dog, I wanted to familiarize myself with what steps were involved. The receptionist told me that the doctor would not call me without me going into the office for a check-up with my animals first, and that she would not speak with me about the general process without me paying for an office visit first. I have NEVER heard of such terrible behavior from a veterinarian's office! I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars here over the past 15 years, and to not even be offered a 5-minute phone call to go over any questions I have before I choose to engage in this process is completely ridiculous and unacceptable. I really wanted to give them a chance with my upcoming travels, but now I will never bring another animal to be seen here. Read Less

Performed a spay on an adopted cat for us, the staff was friendly, the doctors engaged, and incredibly attentive. We really appreciated a follow-up call after we took her home to see how she was doing, that’s not something you see often. We currently use a different vet that’s more convenient to where we live, but wouldn’t hesitate to bring our pets here if we lived closer. Read Less

Very disappointed with the service I received here.  Ive brought my dog here and she was treated successfully by a wonderful doctor. But now as I am going away on vacation and my dog has come up with the same skin infections they've treated about 3 times previously, they can't even prescribe something to ease my poor little dogs skin until they have an appointment open up! Needless to say I will be finding another vet.. its pretty sad they would let her suffer for a week and not at least give me something to hold her over... Read Less

Just had the annual checkup for my cats at Raritan. Very impressed with the balance of  professionalism and compassion that this practice provides. Even though they are very busy (which indicates the level of their popularity) they take the time do a thorough evaluation and answer all my questions. Unfortunately we had to bring in our 17 year old cat to be put down. Each doctor and worker could not have been nicer. It was heartbreaking enough, but the Raritan Animal Hospital did everything they could to make us and our cat comfortable. We were given a private room in the back and could spend as much time as we wanted with our cat. They were sensitive and kind. We brought our cat in on Friday, and by Monday morning we had a sweet sympathy card and hand made pawprint cards from our kitty. Read Less

Great staff! They were so sweet to my cats even though one was so scared she wouldn't come out of her carrier and the other was so mad he was there he hissed a few times. Only reason it's not a 5 star is it was just a check up and it was my first time there. I don't know how they are if your pets are sick and I only have one visit to make a judgement on. Read Less

We've always used Oak Tree Animal Clinic or Raritan Animal Hospital for our cats. The staff and doctors have always treated them with love and care. Today, we had to put our 16 year old cat to sleep. Everyone was loving and caring toward us. They got us into a room quickly, gave us privacy and gave us as much time as we needed. We took our cat home and not only did they put her into a box for us but personalized it too. I certainly wasn't expecting that and it was such a nice gesture for a family that was hurting. I am in total awe at this place having any good reviews. My cat seemed to have, what we suspected was a UTI last week, so we brought him in here (the only place with a same day, walk-in availability). The vet was unable to attain a urine sample because my cat urinated in the carrier on the way in..so instead of doing any other testing or waiting on a new urine sample they decided it was a good idea to just inject my cat with a certain antibiotic/pain reliever and charge us $200 and send us on our way. WELL A FEW DAYS LATER, my cat is in obvious pain and is showing the same symptoms he had always had when we originally took him in and began to PISS BLOOD. After speaking with a feline specialist, we were told that the medication they gave my cat was the "WORST POSSIBLE THING THEY COULD HAVE GIVEN HIM" and that his symptoms could be life threatening so we rushed him in to see someone who knows what the hell they're doing, unlike the people at Raritan Animal Hospital. Do not take your pets to these greedy, arrogant "vets" who lack the proper knowledge to give adequate care to any animal. Read Less

Last weekend I had to make the hardest decision to put my 17 yo Shih Tzu to sleep. As hard as the decision was Dr Spudnick made it as comforting, relaxing and informative as possible. She truly shared our pain as we dealt with the whole process. I came home today to find Biscuit paw/nose print sent to us in a heartfelt card from Dr Spudnick, she didn't have to reach out to us afterwords but her dedication and passion was obvious from the minute she stepped into the room last weekend. If I could I would give 0 stars. The old receptionist lady was cold and rude. My dog got sick and for some reason, which I regret, I decided to take her to the vet hospital in n edison instead of park vet in highland park.For a check up and x-rays and a shot was almost 400 dollars.The vet looked and acted like an intern. My dog was vomiting and had diarrhea and she said oh your dog might have eaten something bad. Come on ! Really I figured that out myself. This practice has potential to be great. However, instead of presenting themselves to clients cooperatively, the support staff works to isolate specific doctors to patients and when that vet is not available, the patient is plain out of luck. There are other issues I've had with the front desk as well.I've been misdirected 3 times to less experienced vets for a complicated case of my 12 year old cat living with advanced chronic kidney disease and multiple other issues, and now newly diagnosed with thyroid disease. I imagine the receptionists do not understand the magnitude of harm and disservice they have done to me and my cat. Additionally, it is plain dishonest to funnel me to their newer vets-- while misrepresenting their experience and areas of interest--when I specifically requested senior vets experienced in CKD and internal medicine. I have now lost precious time in building a vet relationship while my cat may be nearing his final months.The facility's extra accreditation doesn't mean much when the vets are not available when you need them. On the cusp of my cat being hospitalized for acute crisis, the office staff at RAH refused to let me speak with a vet. This is after I've gone there for at least 7 appointments over the last year.  While particular veterinarians there are competent and have a pleasing style, I recommend the practice as a whole with hesitance and caution. If you decide to make your beloved pet a patient here, be prepared to advocate for him or her.  From my recent experience there, call back response time can fluctuate between same day, a couple days later, or not at all.RAH appears to do significant community outreach as evidenced by their presence at town events and clinics. However, this may be part of their over-extension and one reason why they are not as available to their regular patients as are other veterinary practices I have used. Read Less

We have been with the practice for several years. Our experiences with both wellness and various types of sick/emergency visits have been exemplary. Our dogs and we are treated like family by the doctors and staff. Over the years our aging dog, Toto, was given superb care, with expertise, compassion and kindness until the very end of his long life. Our young dog, Teddy, was made to feel welcomed and special from his very first visit. We are always given great advice, terrific care and he enjoys coming to the office to see his friends and to get treats at both OTC and RAH. My strongest recommendation point is that 3 years ago we moved out of the area but travel to OTC or RAH for both routine and sick visits--We wouldn't ever think of bringing our Teddy anywhere else! I really don't understand the negative reviews because when I took my hanster, Latte, to get a bump on her head checked, the vet was very upfront with me about the procedures available and the cost. The bump was a tumor and they removed it and gave us antibiotics and it was cheaper than other vets around the area. I will take Latte back here if she ever needs anything in the future. Read Less

I decided to go to them after hearing a positive experience from a coworker. Originally I went to the Oak Tree Clinic but Raritan is the main office. They were more than helpful and no, I don't think they are overpriced at all! I use to go to a vet in Avenel years ago and the "walk in" cost was over $70! The Oak Tree Clinic is over $60. This place? It's in the $50s. I'll take it!Generally I go to PFA for shots but for vet concerns, this place is close to home for me, which I like. Dr.King was very nice. Staff is friendly. The cost to board your dog (under 40lbs) is something like $25/day which is a STEAL! Maybe i'm one of the "lucky" ones because I got pet insurance. Really, you never know. I have a two year old Basset Hound who is suffering what is now considered digestive issues of some sort. Back to calling the vet in the morning after tests run and certain things ruled out. I"m actually excited to call them! The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because i'm incredibly new. I rarely to never give a 10 out of 10. This is what i would consider something of an excellent review.Service is relatively fast and i'm impressed with the "bedside manner" of the vet. Read Less

My dog is my best friend, so I didn't want to bring him to just any vet- I wanted the best, so I chose Raritan Animal Hospital. I've been bringing Dexter to see Dr. King for about 5 years; she takes such great care of him! He has a ton of allergies and requires medication and shots on a regular basis- Dr. King has taken the time to explore every possible treatment and has helped me choose the best route to take with Dexter. I can tell that she really cares. If Dr. King wasn't available and Dexter needed to see a vet, I wouldn't think twice about bringing him in to see any of the doctors at Raritan animal hospital. Every doctor and all of the staff members are very courteous, well trained, and gentle with the animals. They keep the facility spotless and are truly passionate about keeping our pets healthy. I want to thank Raritan Animal Hospital especially Dr. Quinn for having such a excellent practice. As a owner of English Springer Spaniels for 20 years his crew of vets have taken care of my dogs in the upmost way. When my Daisy got cancer they directed me to chemo because they felt she had a chance of a longer life. Wow were they right! Daisy went into remission. My Teddi who just past at age 12 1/2 year was inflicted with so many problems when getting older, including going blind. They were always there to talk to when problems came up. I have been seeing Dr. Glynn for the past couple of years and love her. She has helped in keeping my Teddi alive and well with a good quality of life. I love how Dr. Glynn sits on the floor with the dogs. She goes to their level of comfort. She is compassionate and always there when I need help. Thank you Dr. Glynn for all the help and compassion with Teddi right down to the day we laid him to rest. Dr. Quinn she deserves a big raise $$$.Also I just read below about their prices. I don't understand the negative reviews.  These doctors and their staff are above reproach.  I switched from Metuchen to Raritan, such was the great service.  I'm not knocking Metuchen, I'm just saying Raritan made me and Bear feel more comfortable.And this past weekend, I had to put my beloved down; he had cancer all over--and went downhill so fast.  They were so good to me and my Bean.Today, 3 days later, I got a card from them saying how much they loved Bear, and included a lock of his hair and a paw print.  Things I was in too much despair to think about.  Above and beyond.When I adopt another dog, it will be in their wonderful care.  You can't do better than them.  Especially, thank you Jessica and Dr. Maehr.  But all the staff was wonderful.To the folks who claim they're more expensive, I didn't find that to be the case.  In fact, they went out of their way to save me money.  They really did.  They could have easily gone through with the blood work I had agreed to, but the xrays (cheaper) told them what they needed to know.
