Should be zero stars! I went here because I had  just moved in.   As soon as you walk in you can see that this place is DANGEROUSLY UNPROFESSIONAL. The obnoxious young woman at the front desk was far more interested in proving to everyone in the waiting room that she was the big boss (when she wasn't gossiping with the other two girls who were just sitting at the desk doing nothing.) These people obviously have NEVER been inside a  REAL, PROFESSIONALLY RUN, vet office, which this place will never be.  Everything about it shows that it is very poorly administered.When I got my dog in with the vet, he instructed a 100 lb. girl to lift my 80 lb. dog - as he just stood there.  He then spent FOUR MINUTES looking over my dog and instructed the girl to clean up the dog's infection.When I returned to the front desk the young woman proceeded to discuss with the other two what they should charge me - right in front of me.  The amount: $350 for FOUR  MINUTES.Later, when I told my several neighbors what happened they said this place is  known as a horror: awful staff, uncaring vets, leaving pets alone in cages on weekends, lots more.   Please stay away if you love your pet. Dr. Lofaro is RUDE, INSENSITIVE, LIAR and MONEY HUNGRY!! Dr. Lofaro is the WORST veterinarian you can have. He added on extra charges for every nonsense thing you can imagine. I made an appointment with Dr. Stein because he had been seeing my dog for the last 2 years, the receptionist told me I will be seeing Dr Stein at 11am yesterday. When I walked in, the receptionist simply asked me to go to Dr. Stein's office and I was surprised when Dr Lofaro came to check my dog. I asked Dr. Lofaro I wanted Dr Stein to see my pet and he said Dr Stein is not available because he is doing surgery. I was not happy with the checkup by Dr Lofaro. I raised my question with the receptionist why she made appointment with Dr Stein at 11am while he was in surgery. What she told me next completely shocked me - She said Dr. Stein doesn't work there anymore. Dr. Lofaro LIED. I was upset with the receptionist the way Dr Lofaro's office had LIED to me and she told me that Dr. Lofaro told her to say that to me so I wouldn't cancel my appointment. WHAT A LIAR!! I was even more upset when I showed the bill to the receptionist and pointed out all the extra unnecessary charges that were added on without any reason. Our 12 year old dog recently suffered a back injury on a Saturday night and we were forced to take her to another vet who recommended an extremely expensive surgery to treat her. We were both heartbroken at the news and shellshocked by the price. Luckily our pooch bounced back a bit and we were soon able to visit Dr. Stein at Emerson, our usual vet. I have rotated through three doctors so far in the brief time I've had my pup, and each doctor I've interacted with has been courteous, concerned, and professional. I never felt rushed, nor have I ever left feeling as though I wasn't sure what I was told or what i need to do to help my dog. The vet techs are all kind, gentle, and seem to truly enjoy their interactions with my puppy. When she's had "accidents" in the waiting room, the reception staff were professional and helped me to clean it up. When my pup needs to be weighed, they try to make it quick since she hates the scale. She's greeted warmly, and gets a few pets, or a tour behind the desk upon entrance. All of this being said, I really do feel as though everyone in that office cares, and loves animals, which I believe is why I am so comfortable going there. I have been taking my pets to Emerson Animal Hospital for almost 20 years!  I usually see Dr LoFaro or Dr Stein-- they are both phenomenal.  I currently have 2 dogs and 2 cats, and I wouldn't trust my pets with anyone but these 2 veterinarians.  I have never felt cheated at Emerson Animal Hospital.  In fact, their office visit cost is lower than most other veterinarians in the area.  These veterinarians always follow up on lab tests and I have always received a personal phone call from them. I have two rescue pitbulls, Meekah and Milo, and I refuse to bring them anywhere else. Dr. Stein is the best vet we have ever been to, and we've been to a lot. After moving several times: Hoboken, Lower East Side, Fort Lee, Hell's Kitchen..., we have visited many many vets and none of them compare to Dr. Stein and Emerson Animal Hospital. Even if the drive is well over an hour, it is the only place we will go!Dr. Stein has successful removed 4 tumor masses from one of our dogs and each one of them have healed perfectly. He always calls after surgery to see how the dog is doing and is always able to answer all of our questions. We brought one of our dogs in a few weeks back. For months our dog has been lazy, loosing some hair, gaining weight, etc and we just attributed it to old age. All of the previous vets we have gone to have done blood work and told us that she is just naturally heavier and lethargic. Dr. Stein immediately let us know he thought there was a deeper issue and he suspected there was a hypoactive thyroid issue. After running some tests, we found that he was right! Our dog has since been on medication and what a difference it has made. She has tons of energy, looks healthier, and is much happier. I cannot even begin to explain how thankful I am.The front desk staff is always friendly and they are accommodating with last minute appointments. I have never taken my dogs anywhere but to this animal hospital. I will not let my dogs be seen by any other vet except Dr. Stein. With that being said if Dr. Arteficio is available we will go see if her and if it is an emergency and both of them are not available off we go to Oradell animal hospital (no matter how much it'll cost). Before I knew how amazing Dr. Stein was I went to Dr. Bishvoi because my one pug who was 8 weeks old at the time needed some vaccines and Stein wasn't available. BIG MISTAKE. Not only did he make my baby puppy scream in pain...but he looked like he could care less!!!! I was absolutely fed up and ever since that day I REFUSE to go see him. I rather spend $1,000 at Oradell then go to him.I need a Vet who will tell me my dog will be okay if she's sick, that he will do everything he can to keep her alive, that he understands how I am feeling and that man is Dr. Stein! I have not met anyone in this town that was not satisfied with Dr. Stein. He is a great Vet and the staff there is very helpful and friendly. This place is just a great animal hospital overall. I've had some pretty bad experiences with animal hospitals lately, not sure why. Living in my area there seem to be vets a dime a dozen, so who do you trust your fur baby to? I got pointed in this direction and thought I would give them a shot. Dr. Arteficio was the vet that my cat got to see on this visit. She was nothing but nice and friendly, didn't use fancy medical jargon or try to talk over any concerns I had. She did a thorough and gentle exam on Leonard and I was freaking out in the back of my head that he would bite...but he didn't. The fact that she was so calming and friendly for just a routine visit, they definitely have my business. The front desk staff was polite, but I was left standing there for a few minutes like I blended in with the background. That aside, a terrific visit! Read Less

A huge thank you to Dr lofaro and staff for always taking such great care of our 4 dogs over the years Yesterday, our 8 month old lab/hound mixed, Bailey, got spayed and she's doing great. Last week, my oldest lab, lilo has an infection due to her diabetes and Dr stein took great care of her. About a month ago my 11 yr old, had a painful, split nail. The newest vet, Dr A(?) took great care of him. Miriam and the rest of the staff and the vet techs always go above and beyond. They always take the time to answer your questions and they always call back when they say they will. Their prices are always very fair and def more reasonable than many others in bergen county. And they don't pressure you to do unnecessary procedures.Read Less

I can only speak of Dr. Gabriel Stein since he is the only vet i have visited with at Emerson. That being said he is by far the best Veterinarian i have ever encountered. He extended the life of my cat and best friend by 14 happy months after another vet said to euthanize him. Recently my eldest cat, who is 17 was not doing well and he kept her 3 days, looking after her himself and nursing her back to full health. He is honest, kind, fair and extremely knowledgeable. If you get Dr. B ... run away! The man almost killed my dog! I took my two year old Springer Spaniel in to get checked out because she had a distended abdomen and she needed her routine shots. Dr. B took some blood and told me, my dog had an infected uterus which would require surgery. I wasn't 100% certain of his diagnosis. Thank goodness! I took my dog for a second opinion. My dog has a heart murmur which Dr. B did not mention at all during his examination. The heart murmur caused the abdomen to fill with liquid, making the dog fill full which explains why she wasn't eating! Her new vet removed almost 4 cups of fluid from her abdomen. She is eating again! The type of uterine infection Dr. B claimed my dog had is not common in young dogs. It is a geriatric disease! She does have a slight infection but that is due to the fluid in her abdomen. This man almost killed my dog because a chest X-ray showed she also has an enlarged heart. Had I believed him and sent her in for surgery, she would have died. I don't know about the other vets at Emerson Animal Hospital but I will NOT be going back there to be ripped off and misled.Read Less

My fur baby, Holden, recently had a number of issues come up that resulted in about 7 trips here in a couple weeks. Dr Stein and staff were amazing with helping us through this. All of my calls were returned quickly, we were worked in the same day when we needed to go in, and everyone was so helpful with getting Holden inside without any run-ins with other dogs (he doesn't get along with them). My family has been using Dr. Lafaro for 20+ years and he's fantastic! I currently live 45 minutes from Emerson Animal Hospital and still make that trip for piece of mind that my pets are being taken care of by the best vet possible. This week my 2 year old dog was vomiting and had diarrhea and I was able to get an appointment within 2 hours with Dr. Stein. This was the first time I visited with a different vet in the practice but because of the how important it was for my pet to see a vet I agreed. Dr. Stein was awesome! He made sure I understood everything from start to finish and was very compassionate towards my dog. I unfortunately had to leave my pet over night and she was under Dr. Lafaro's care. As always I knew my dog was well taken care of over night and the next day she was good as new! I don't believe this animal hospital is over priced at all! Worst place you could possibly bring your pet too. I'm not the one to write such a bad review because I myself am in a business so I get feedback from customers/clients but after what happened with my dog I have to save anybody else with a animal in help to save them from going to this place. In a brief review , brought my dog here without her knowing she had a tumor. Was hoping it was a infection or some kind , went here to get it checked out. Spend 50$ for the exam , didn't get any good feedback just info I already knew. Spent almost 150$ on antibotics that were recommended by dr stein , still no good. Then got a biopsy which got almost 400$ including more meds & guess what? They still didn't know what it was !! Unbelievable , then on top of that , dr stein was supposed to prescribe us with a different medication he thought would help her but instead made us spend more money and gave us the same medication as before that wasn't helping ! If this isn't malpractice I don't know what is & if I didn't spend almost 700$ and I was good financially this place would be shut down by how much I would sue for. My new rescue dog ate rat poison and when I called my regular vet, they immediately referred me to a 24-hour animal hospital locatedin Oradell.  I didn't want to go there due to the exhorbitant cost of my last visit to that facility, so I called around to several other veterinarians in the area.  Emerson Animal Hospital -- specifically Dr. Stein -- got on the phone with me to tell me exactly what I should do when none of the other facilities would provide emergency information.  At one facility, the receptionist even said that if the dog looked okay, then she was probably fine!My spouns took my dog to see Dr. Stein and they were wonderful.  He was very thorough, called me to update me on her prognosis, and asked permission before doing an additional blood test.  He even called the next day to check on her and provide additional feedback and recommendations.  I highly recommend Dr. Stein!!! I've been using Emerson animal hospital for 30 years and have always been quite satisfied, until today. Dr. Bishvoi  has zero compassion for your pet, and is worse than any used car salesman you'll ever encounter! I brought my dog in for a simple exam (for a problem he had no idea as how to rectify)  and I'm embarrassed to say I allowed him to sell me everything except the building. Granted, I'm a fairly easy mark when it comes to my pets, but I walked out with $400 less then when I walked in!Bu all means, use Emerson animal hospital, but stay far far away from Dr. Bishvoi. We rescued 2 cats and was told from a Rescue Group that Emerson Animal Hospital would have them spayed for $65.00 a piece.  We dropped them off and when we came back the Receptionist handed my wife a $2,000.00 Bill !!!!  Without our permission, the Vet did extensive blood tests etc, HIV and gave them all their shots.  Of course we complained, and the Doctor said that he would take away their pain medicine, from the operation, and it would cost us 200 dollars less.  My wife was afraid to tell me about the scam; so she took her Dad back to the Office and he threatened to  report the Doctor at which time he lowered the bill to 900 dollars.  Be very careful when you take your pet there. Never going back. Vet is out to get your money. They diagnosed my dog with an obscure illness, wanted to convince us to do three xrays, one scan and three blood tests. We asked the vet "Could you explain why we need to do these? "we just have to" they responded.The vet goes and comes back with the list of what they are charging us with a smirk on his face. $700.We ask again to explain the need to for all these tests. Nop. "We have to because he might have a lump." Did you feel something that feels like a lump? we asked. "No, I don't want to touch your dog because I don't want to hurt him". We asked if he didn't think it could be heart failure. "NO, absolutely not."We kindly agreed to a blood test. Got the results and kindly went elsewhere. The other vet informed us, no there is no symptom that is remotely close to what was suggested by Emerson vet. It was heart failure. So we saved $700. The moral of the story. Don't go to this Emerson if you care for your pet. Read Less

Dr. Lofaro saved my dogs life!! My dog was suffering and dying right before my very eyes and the other doctors at another hospital misdiagnosed the problem when it was more than obvious (but that's what happens when interns handle the ultrasound equipment rather than a board certified professional). Dr. Lofaro never gave up and worked on my dog days, nights & weekends (literally!). He even worked with me to pick him up at night and drop him back off in the morning for treatments/tests (never once made me feel like a terrible pet-parent for wanting to keep and personally watch my dog overnight). I wish I went to Dr. Lofaro the minute my dog got sick! (UPDATED MARCH 2012)Great vet, service and prices are reasonable! The staff is friendly, the vets are loving and caring (and this comes from 7 consistent years of going there). They're budget conscious and will price match when they can. I've gone to Emerson Animal Hospital 3 times now - each time getting different doctors who I really liked. Today I got Dr Muller and she was THE WORST. Rude from the minute I walked in the room. Upset about something in my dog's file that it wasn't up to date (that's not my problem, it's your offices) and then continued to make rude comments to me about how I cared for my dog. The doctor is there to educate you on how to care for your dog, not be condescending and judgmental. Stay away from Dr Muller - she's a rude obnoxiously lady. I've been taking my dogs to Emerson Animal Hospital for years - for their routine exams, and for emergencies - and they have always shown the most care and sympathy for any situation we have, whether it be an injury, a spay/neuter, or just routine visits. They know our dogs' names, and it never smells like an animal hospital. The front desk is friendly, even though they're extremely busy.
