I called to schedule an appointment for my 2 month old Shihapoo with the Orthopedic Doctor; it wasn't an urgent necessity and yet I was given an appointment with only a two day wait. The staff was very freindly and Dr. Akbawy came in to meet us within minutes of arriving. He met Princess Bella and immediately saw she had a crooked paw. He asked me if she had been injured and I told him she was born this way. He said this may sound strange but it would be a better situation if she had been injured and explained why. He examined her and listened to everything I said and answered all my questions. He told us that if she was born with the crooked paw that most likely it is a birth defect but he couldn't be sure without an Xray. He continued to explain the possibilities and asked if we wanted to have the X-ray done, he also explained it could be a long process if he could help her but it all starts with the Xray. He told us it was our decision how far we wanted to go with any possible treatment for her. He was compassionate and not pushy in any way. After my fur-babies Xray, he came in and said that Princess Bella was born with a missing bone and showed us the Xray. He then continued to explain what he could try to do to help her but it couldn't begin until she stopped growing. As of right now I have to wait until then before going back to him, he said there was no need to come back unless something happens to the leg and to my surprise he told me to go to my regular vet to maintain her shots etc. I really liked this Animal Hospital and Dr. Akbawy, After we discussed Bella's treatment he gave us a tour of his hospital. Every room was clean, he showed us the Xray room the Pre-Op room, the Operating room and even the Dentistry room.The hospital doesn't have the usual animal smells it was so clean..The cost for todays visit including X-rays was very very reasonable. I'm about 90% certain that I will be switching my pets to this practice. The 10% is only because the Vet we currently have is close to home and we have known them for over 20 years. But the warmth and compassion we received from this first visit was wonderful and I went home with Hope for my precious Princess Bella. Read Less

My Maltese is 16 years old so I’ve had my share of vet visits. I recently got a Siberian husky who has many problems and one of them happens to be very low on calcium. It has caused all his canine teeth to crack in half leaving him in pain. I called my vet and she told me all she could do is pull the them out but luckily I did my research and I was fortunate to find dr.awkbawy who has exceeded my expectations. He is an expert in his field and goes beyond that when it comes to any kind of surgery. He is accommodating and very informative. The staff is always so friendly and they call to check up even a month after procedures. My husky had root canals and crowns done on all his teeth. It is honestly amazing what dr. Awkbawy can do. I took my dog here today. They were able to make me a same day appointment even though I was no a current client. The vet tech did great with my nervous dog and the doctor explained my options, gave me an itemized list of costs for potential treatments. That way I knew up front what it was going to cost. The doctor explained everything and answered all my questions. I feel like he suggested a conservative approach to my dog's issue and then discussed other options so I could decide what would work best for us. Dr. Elakbawy did Unilateral Arytenoid Lateralization (Tie-back surgery) on my 9 year old Laborador Retriever who suffers from Laryngeal Paralysis (LarPar) with great success. This is a clean facility with professional and compassionate staff. I traveled from a far distance to Fairfield based on excellent reviews and reasonable cost and my dog recieved top quality, life saving care. All of the staff showed great concern for my dog and for me because I was very upset and scared. I've been going to this vet for years. Primarily Dr. Raj has seen my cat Maximus. I couldn't ask for a more caring vet. She's been working with me on my cat's chronic constipation issues and is always ready with more holistic/dietary approaches to getting more fluids in him since his issue isn't really medical, it's an issue with him not drinking enough water. I switched to this practice when the vet they were adopted with became logistically impossible to get to. They had been on tons of constant medication for giardia for the first year I had them. When I brought them to Dr. Raj I was told that they DID NOT have giardia at all. I'm fully convinced the original vet was stuffing them full of medication to stuff their pockets with money. I couldn't be happier with the entire staff here and would recommend them to anyone with furbabies who are in need of a caring vet!Read Less

We took our dog there after the workers at her daycare place pointed out she had what they believed was a canine papilloma in her mouth. When the vet came in, he took a look and said it could be a papilloma, but it could be something else. He proceeded to take a picture of it with his phone and said he had to send it to the pathologists. Fast forward about an hour of standing in the exam room and he returns and told us it could be a papilloma, but it could be something else. Then he squirted some disinfectant on a few gauze pads and gave it to us in a Ziploc bag to wipe it off which was obviously a shot in the dark since he wasn't able to give us a diagnosis. I guess his scientific method of texting a picture to the pathologists didn't work out that day. I received more information and specifics from the kids working at daycare. In short, we paid $55 for a few pieces of gauze in a Ziploc bag. For what it's worth the woman at the front desk was very nice.Read Less

Brought my sweet beautiful cat to get spayed two weeks ago and now shes dead! She died this morning she was perfectly healthy until i took her to get spayed and now shes gone!!! I found this hospital through the Friends of Animals program for spaying and neutering cats. I bought the spay and neuter certificates through Friends of Animals and did some calling around to research the phone manners/courtesy of the participating vets in my area. I was pleased with the women I spoke with and they gave me pricing for their additional costs to have my cats fixed, which turned out to be reasonable. They got me in within a few days, and all went well with the surgeries and my experience there. They didn't pressure me into anything additional, which I felt to be the case for some of the other vets I had called. They really took care of my cats, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a new vet.Read Less

My little baby Destiny Hope, was just at the Animal Hospital of Fairfield, everyone is so kind & caring..she had broken her rear toenail, she also has a ear & eye infection. The Animal Hospital of Fairfield neutered our cats. The staff was very professional. We, also, brought our kitten there when she spiked a fever, The veterinarian actually came to the office on his day off to tend to her. She had pneumonia. They did a wonderful job taking care of our kitten while trying to keep our costs to a minimum. We were allowed to visit her each day until she was released. I have taken all 5 of my cats(past and present) plus two hamsters (RIP) to Dr. John. He is the best! I wouldn't go anywhere else. He has great passion and compassion for animals. I saw this when he helped me through the passing of my 3 cats (and two hamsters) by giving me honest sound medical advice and options. I met Dr. Akbawy approximately 3 years ago and was referred to him by a friend. I have been around animals my whole life as my mother was a dog breeder, and I have had experiences with many veterinarians over the years. I have never met a veterinarian who is as compassionate towards animals as Dr. Akbawy. He is truly an example of a man who went into the field of veterinary medicine for the right reasons, for his great love of animals and to be of maximum service to pets and their owners. I have seven cats that I rescued from the streets around my neighborhood. I found out that some of them were infected with the disease of FIP, which is especially fatal to kittens within their first year of life. Dr.Akbawy helped me through some extremely difficult times with my animals, always giving his all and the best of care to help save some of their lives, as well as with the upmost compassion and understanding towards me and my beloved pets, in making difficult decisions at times when I had to put a kitten to sleep to spare its suffering through this horrible disease. I have been struggling financially over the past two years and Dr.Akbawy has always been there to help me by only charging me for services that were necessary and at times removing charges from bills and even extending me credit when necessary to help me in the struggle to care for my animals. I brought my cat to Dr. Akbawy because she was attacked by a dog and as a result, her tail was severed and her hind area was severely injured. Dr. Akbawy and his staff have been kind and diligent in their care of her and have nursed her back to health. Not only has Dr. Akbawy and his staff provided excellent care but his rates are very reasonable compared to most. Dr. Akbawy and his staff are very friendly and caring and I have been able to call and visit at any time. Because of the care that my cat has received, she has been able to heal more rapidly then expected. hurts me to even write this and relive the story of how the careless acts of this doctor caused the DEATH of our precious baby. We have been taking Prince, our beautiful english bulldog here for a year or so. A few years ago he got the cherry eye, which is normal for bulldogs. The doctor kept recommending that we do the surgery. We finally decided to do it on March 7, 2011. Four days earlier, we got him checked to see if he could handle the surgery (bloodwork and everything). The doctor was extremely confident that he was a perfect candidate. Nothing was wrong with him. He said he would be able to go through it and it would not be a big deal. We trusted him. On monday, march 7th, Prince passed away. The doctor then told us that he was ""allergic"" to the medicine that they gave him to sedate him. They did not even BEGIN the surgery when, he said, Prince turned blue. They were not able to revive him. IF PRINCE WAS A ""PERFECT, HEALTHY CANDIDATE FOR SURGERY THEN HOW COME HE COULD NOT EVEN HANDLE THE FIRST 5 MINUTES OF IT? WHY WOULD THE DOCTOR EVEN RECOMMEND IT WITH SUCH CONFIDENCE? My guess is that they either gave him TOO MUCH of something, the WRONG MEDICATION, or the doc had one of his helpers prep Prince and they did not know what they were doing (since he's the ONLY doctor there). We trusted this doctor with our Prince's life. He was not only a pet, he was a brother to me and a son to my parents. He was only 8 years old and not even close to being ready to leave this world. This loss is devastating. It hurts me to even write about it. This doctor needs to be STOPPED. You cannot just GO AROUND recommending surgery and then when something goes wrong act like ""hey that's what happens sometimes."" He told us that this had not happened to him in 10 years but from the looks of some of these reviews online, he was lying. He showed no remorse and could not give us a decent explanation as to what went wrong. Prince was a healthy, beautiful, happy dog and he was MURDERED. We sent him in there with good intentions and he ended up losing his life because of CARELESSNESS. This is something we cannot begin to accept. Do NOT BRING YOUR DOGS THERE. There is no excuse for this. You can give us any reason in the book and it would not explain this.... HE DID NOT EVEN BEGIN THE SURGERY YET. The worst part is, we will never get any answers because when we went in there to question him, no one could open their mouth. If that doctor even told us that there was a .5% chance that Prince would not react well, we would not have done the surgery. He made us feel so confident and acted like it was a piece of cake. We are still in shock at the loss of our beautiful baby boy. This did not have to happen to him. On top of that he charged us $60 for the medication that CAUSED PRINCE'S DEATH. I cannot believe the audacity and insensitivity of this doctor. I do not want to see this happen to any other dog. I could go on for days about this.
