Our dog Jax just had his first vet visit to the Animal Infirmary of Hoboken and it was a surprisingly pleasant experience. Waited a few minutes to be seen. Jax was treated with care and love from every staff member who passed him, pet him, made him feel at ease. In the examination room, the tech was kind to play with Jax and keep him busy while the doctor explained what she was looking for and then also for her diagnosis. I requested a quote for everything - diagnostics and treatment - before it was completed and they were so great. They printed out a form with everything line-itemed and walked me through everything. The tech was even kind enough to be candid about what she felt was truly necessary and what was a good precaution but not critical. I also appreciate that Jax's follow-up visit for this issue next week will not be charged for the vet visit but rather just for any further medications or diagnostics that may be needed.Highly recommend for local Hoboken pet owners! Nice people but it is expensive. Always check the cost before they do anything. I just asked them to check my cat's ear since physical exam comes with vaccine and is supposed to be free. Finally I ended up paying 200 plus just on the job they did to my cat's ear. I understand extra service comes with cost but they should let me know the cost before they do anything. Read Less

I can't say enough about this animal infirmary. I had to bring my cat in today for an eye infection, and as a walk in clinic, I expected a wait. I had no wait at all, was brought right into a room, and seen immediately. The tech and the doctor were prompt, extremely nice, and handled the cat so well. They explained everything in detail as they did the examination, and were thorough in their explanation as to what was wrong, how to give the treatment, and the after care. They also said the follow up visit would be free of charge as long as no other tests were needed. As the owner of a new puppy, the Animal Infirmary has been a great resource. They don't take appointments, but I have never waited more than a few minutes to get into an exam room. Everyone there is so kind, from the front office staff to the vet techs. We've seen several different vets, and they've all been very helpful when it comes to answering questions. We've gone through the entire vaccination schedule with them.  Prices are very reasonable. They won't charge you twice for an exam if you visit more than once within three weeks, which came in really handy when we needed boosters. I look forward to continuing to use them as my puppy gets bigger! Read Less

While the Animal Infirmary is very convenient living in Hoboken and they've helped in an emergency situation with my dog, I was very disappointed with how things went down in one specific aspect the last time we were there. My dog has been suffering from pancreatitis for the past few days, was on a strict bland diet, and had just had an allergic reaction, so he was there being treated. He is allergic to wheat and other foods so we are super careful as he'll blow right up from eating certain things. I had been sitting there waiting and had to use the bathroom, so a tech had offered to watch my dog in the room. I come back and she had fed him a large treat. He had literally been on an IV the day before, throwing up, unable to keep things down, barely eating. For someone to just give him and not ask but knowing the circumstances was not cool. The doctor came in as I was also walking in and saying to the tech, "Um, he can't eat that - he's allergic to it and is on a strict bland diet" and she said, "Well don't worry, his steroid shot for his allergy will counteract it." The tech apologized and left, but I just feel it was super unprofessional on both ends, knowing full well my dog was in there for an allergy attack and had had pancreatitis over the weekend. In general, we use this place because it's convenient, but have been disappointed by the clinic aspect (where you can never get/request the same doctor), etc. For the premium they charge, it's unfortunate that they don't have the same standards. Overall the staff is very friendly, but I do feel like they love to push their chemical-filled prescription dog food regardless of what's in it.  We'll continue to come here for the basics - shots, fecal stuff, etc since we're close by -- but Secaucus Animal Hospital is where it's at. Everyone who works here are super friendly and you can tell they love animals. I'm new to the area and needed to find a local veterinarian. Brought my cat Lola for her annual checkup and everyone was wonderful from the moment I walked in the door. Super convenient because they are a walk in clinic so no appointment needed. Got there early around 8:30am and was pleased with the great care my cat received. I'm very happy I found Animal Infirmary of Hoboken. They will be the place I take my cat from now on. Read Less

Never again. I brought my 20 pound healthy dog here for a quick nail trim and anal gland expression and it cost me SIXTY NINE DOLLARS. I can get a whole grooming (ears, anal glands, wash, nails) at every other grooming place in town for a fraction of that. What a rip off! Read Less

No one I know is fully satisfied here, but I went because its close. I received a range of expensive tests to choose from, including x-rays for several hundred dollars. When I asked for advice, the doc said it was up to me. Really? Isn't she the trained professional? With no information, I elected for an antibiotic shot. But kitty's problem worsened the next day. So I went to Edgewater's Animal General (AG). The AG doc Diana Knight found a splinter in his paw and solved the problem instantly for half the price. Neither the x-rays or antibiotic shot would've been the correct remedy, because the problem wasn't correctly diagnosed. Drive or get yourself a car service and get to Animal General. Ultimately it will save you time, money, and grief. Read Less

I just took my new Yorkie puppy in for a visit. I've only had him 3 days and noticed he had been itching his ears a lot. I arrived at 2pm and was promptly checked in. The vet tech came in the room and was super nice. Dr Ponce was my doctor, she came in and gave my puppy a thorough check. I told her about his ears, she could see I was upset. The doctor and vet tech took my puppy to the procedure room and cleaned out his ears, she then called me back to the room and to my horror she showed me under the microscope that he had ear mites. I really wanted to like this place since I live close by, and my first visit was excellent, but the second visit is the reason it's unlikely I'll ever come back here.I just moved to Hoboken and my cat was experiencing a bout of diarrhea, and since he's old, I took him in. Dr. Butka examined him and was very professional; she didn't find anything out of the ordinary, so I took my cat back home.I returned to the vet two days later since he was still having diarrhea and the service was like night and day. This time we were seen by Dr. Ponce who was extremely condescending and started immediately rattling off the worst possible causes: lymphoma, tumors, etc--despite having told her that he was otherwise acting entirely normal. She did a very quick exam and insisted she couldn't tell anything without having imaging done, which I had already said I wasn't interested in. The entire time she kept listing off all the horrible, fatal things that could be wrong with my cat even though I tried to politely get her to stop. I left the office in tears and with no real suggestions for treatment.Long story short, I ended up taking my cat to my previous vet elsewhere in NJ who pointed out that the straining and anal irritation he was experiencing was most likely from getting a second rectal exam by Dr. Ponce after having had one just two days prior (by Dr. Butka)--essentially, Dr. Ponce's exam was entirely unnecessary.It goes without saying that a regular doctor wouldn't treat a human patient this way, listing the worst-case scenarios from the get-go. Not only was Dr. Ponce unprofessional, but her treatment took me aback since I'd had such a good experience two days prior with Dr. Butka. I hope she's the outlier among the vets at this practice, but I just don't want to put myself or my cat through something like this ever again, so I doubt I'll be returning. Read Less

They were absolutely fantastic with my sweet puppy; they were all so friendly and kind to me and my pup. I was able to walk in at 8a and be seen right away. I would steer clear of this unethical establishment, which is just looking to make money. I asked them to fax my dog's heart worm script in to 1-800-Pet-Meds and they said it was against policy. When I called to enquire, they said they didn't trust websites. I asked if this was just a ploy to force me to buy the medication from them, and the woman hung up on me. Dr. Wagner was such an incredible help to our cat Ernie who recently had a urinary issue and stayed for a few days. Not only was he very communicative (and answered so many questions), he was so attentive -- he even checked in on him in the middle of the night a few times. He is very knowledgable and detected another issue we need to keep an eye out for too (we've since brought the cat to a specialist). I have been taking my senior cat, Mimi, here for about 3 years, since I've gotten her. She's a nice cat, but I don't think she had a great life before I met her, and although she's generally nice, she can be really difficult to deal with during nail clippings and other things. The staff here is great, always understanding and patient with her-and me! I chose them because they were the closest to my apartment in Hoboken, but man did I luck out. I was incredibly disappointed both times I visited this clinic.I brought my dog for her annual. The vet tech hardly smiled at us when she brought us into the room and barely talked. The doctor came in and didn't introduce herself, didn't look at me, and never asked if I had any concerns or if there was anything I wanted to talk about regarding my dog's health. She did a very cold exam of my dog, and was slightly nicer when she brought her back after getting her blood drawn for her heart worm check. I was honestly so shocked by the treatment that I didn't say anything, just wanted to get out ASAP.I went back to give my dog's stool sample in, and I didnt realize it HAD to be within two weeks - no one told me it had to be two weeks or I forfeited my pre-payment. (It says 2 weeks on the sample container, but I thought that was just the recommendation). The receptionist was incredibly rude. She eventually got a bit nicer, but her treatment was a bit shocking since I explained I had no idea and no one told me (remember: the doctor and vet tech hardly talked to me so they definitely didn't tell me extra, important details). I also previously called to get my dog's heartworm prescription. They sent it to a PetCo for me, and when I got there, that store said they never got it since they don't carry that medicine. Can't say enough good things about this place. Dr. Norby has been taking care of my cat and is incredibly compassionate and caring. I have never had anything but positive experiences with the office staff and they are upfront and reasonable about pricing. I'm 100% confident in saying that the first goal of the practice is animal and owner well-being, rather than making money. I've been to other veterinary clinics before that try to nickel and dime you left and right. I've seen plenty of clinics that sell specialty food with a ridiculous markup, but at this practice everything is priced very reasonably. Most recently a large bag of high-end low residue cat kibble cost me about $3 more than if I had bought it online. I have a lot of trust and faith in the vets who work here - there have been plenty of times when I've been told something along the lines of "well we could get X study if you're really worried, but I don't think it's necessary at this point." All in all they are very honest and compassionate people and I'll be continuing to use them as long as I remain in the area. Read Less

Love the walk-in aspect of this. Never have to plan an appointment and never a long wait. I've been to a couple of Drs. at this practice and they are all great with my cat and willing to take time to explain everything.  People keep saying prices are high, but the cost of a visit is the same that my parents pay in rural PA for their cat's vet, so I've always thought they were very reasonable especially with the convenience of walk-ins. Also, they are patient and caring with a cat who does not enjoy this process and always comment on how handsome he is :)  The later hours, multiple locations, and weekend hours are a plus. Had to bring my dog for an emergency appointment last night, and even running late the staff made sure to squeeze us in for an immediate appointment. Upon arrival, the staff was so friendly and seemed committed to helping Loki. Dr. Oratio was just great. Very fair, thorough and friendly. I really can't recommend this place enough. Dr. Russo has been treating my dog for a couple of weeks now and has been very patient with him, he can be a little dramatic and difficult at times. She has called me multiple times to check up on him, send me emails to outline the next steps, and has made multiple suggestions. You can tell Dr. Russo genuinely cares and it has really helped put my mind at ease. The level of professionalism throughout this office is outstanding and I am glad to have them as my dog's vet. Friendly place to bring a dog that is NOT sick.  The provide decent wellness care and can definitely handle MINOR issues.Great place for larger dogs, the vet staff  I encountered are somewhat aggressive for smaller size and more fragile dogs. Read Less

We brought our 10 week old puppy here since the reviews were exceptional. Our first visit was quick and Dr. Schwartz was very helpful in setting up a vaccination schedule for our pup. The reception staff were very helpful and kind and always greeted you with a smile. Our puppy always gets so much attention and love from the staff that he loves coming here. We love getting reminder emails about upcoming follow up appointments and vaccinations. They always discuss with us what is best when it comes to the health of our puppy and we greatly appreciate it, especially since we live in an urban area.On our second visit, we arrived on a Saturday and I must say, even though we had to wait a little bit, the service was quick once it was our turn. Be prepared to wait a little bit on Saturdays but it is worth it when it comes to the health of your pet. Thanks to the vets and staff for making our trips so easy. Looking forward to our next visit! After my cat was diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder, we needed bi-weekly appointments and testing to monitor his health. The doctors and staff at Animal Infirmary are not only friendly and competent, but they truly care about your pets. They are always sure to discuss all possible options (with patience, I might add) and have the best interest of both the pet and pet parents in mind. As much as my dog hates the vet, she is always very well taken care of here. All of the techs are so happy to help and love the animals. My normally very shy dog always relaxes when getting love from the techs and the doctors. They never try to upsell us for things we don't need and they are very upfront about the cost of whatever my dog requires. We have been using Animal Infirmary of Hoboken for almost a year now and they are terrific. After terrible experiences with other vets in the Hudson/Bergen Co area, we started bringing our dogs here and their customer service and professionalism has been a breath of fresh air. Their scheduling model is a bit unconventional because they only take walk-ins (followups can be scheduled or walk ins as well). But it works well because my schedule is erratic so whenever I can fit a visit in, I can. You are usually seen quickly because they have multiple veterinarians on duty to attend to all the cases. The vets rotate among the other offices in the area so if one is closed, you can easily visit another. We had a little guy who suffered a bad accident and broke his leg, which unfortunately was not fixable, and the staff and vets here were the ultimate caregivers and made us feel comforted and cared for while we spent our last few precious hours with our little guy. Even afterwards, we received a personally-written sympathy card in the mail from Dr. Schwartz who was with us during that time (she is awesome all the time!). We will continue to bring our other two dogs here as long as we live in the area!!! Read Less

Took my cat Toby here after a horrible experience we had with another local vet that left him ill. They were wonderful!!! They were so patient with my cat and with me (i had a million questions) My cat is already improving after one day. From the front desk staff, the vet techs and the doctors everyone was so kind and compassionate. I will be recommending them to everyone I know and returning for well visits. Thank you guys!!! I had been going to this vet for a few years because it was convenient to where I live. However I have a vocal Bengal who in his 14 years has never bitten or even hissed at a human, much less a vet. I assume because he is vocal when scared, unbeknownst to me, they put in his file that he is dangerous. I cannot stress enough that he has never lashed out during an exam, again not even a hiss. Due to this unwarranted note in his file, the tech put on the big gloves and held him AROUND HIS NECK while the vet examined him. He was so stressed out but still did nothing. While I was petting his nose, I was told not to because he could bite me. I told the vet he does not bite and never would. They ignored me. The vet thought he needed x-rays, and told me he would have to be put under because of how stressed he was. He was being held around his neck in a chokehold for 15 minutes. Yes he was stressed. Which still just meant meowing and looking terrified. He wasn't even squirming. I left and went to the vet on Washington. They did the x-ray as normal, with a simple wand and said he was great. I cannot believe the other vet wanted to put my 14-year-old cat at risk by putting him under instead of listening AT ALL to his owner. I have five cats and they will never return to the Adams St Vet. I have seen decent vets there but if you label my docile but loud cat as a risk without telling me and then treat him that way, ignoring my sworn assertions that has never bitten anyone and is around kids a lot - then tell me there is no way he can have an x-ray without putting put under - done. Unethical, rude, and putting a cat at risk for no reason. I know the front desk at Wash gets them some lower ratings but the vets and techs are good. I have utmost faith in Dr Sprague there. And like the other many vets my cat has seen in his lifetime, he treated him well, and had no issue with the x-ray or general treatment. I wish I remembered the name of the particular vet - youngish guy with a sh*tty bedside manner. Not hard to notice. They literally lost thousands of dollars a year with the number of cats I have.Read Less

I have two cats and have been coming here for 7 years. I have had a different Vet each time which I find a bit disconcerting. The Vets work different days and apparently rotate through the different affiliated Veternarian Offices. That said I have found everyone at this Vets to be helpful and interested and caring - from the front desk through the Vets. And the Vets are available by phone when necessary for follow up. The care ny cats have received has been top notch and the treatment options described to me, with their costs and benefits. As others have said pets can be expensive so it's important to get the best care for the money and you get that here. Read Less

We had an old dog who had typical old dog issues, and I strongly recommend this vet to anyone. We went 3-4 times and saw a few different Vets, and all were very kind and practical. This place always goes above and beyond for my dog.  He's had cancer tumors and he's had 3 different surgeries over the last 3 years to remove each of them.  They're very caring. I've been bringing my puppy here since she was 11 weeks old (now 7 months) and haven't had a bad experience yet. All of the vets are extremely caring and knowledgeable. They answer any questions you may have at any time. With all the positive visits I've had here, I started bringing my cat here as well. I have been using this clinic for about five years now.  I recommend Dr. Barbaris without hesitation, she is incredible.  If you have a big dog, go to her!  She is kind, compassionate and practical - all at the same time.  The hours are very reasonable and there is now parking behind the building.  But, if you don't have a car there are several cabs you can call and ask if they will take a dog - I found several that would even take my giant dog.The costs are high, but relatively normal for this area.  I do feel like I am getting good care for my pets when here.  I have been to this vet for the best and worst of time, and I think that they are compassionate and professional.  Again, I can't say enough about the quality and caliber of Dr. Barbaris; she's the best.Also, the vet techs and front desk staff are funny and sweet - and also able to handle "grumpy" pets.  I've laughed and cried with all of them. If I could give this place ten stars, I would. The office staff is kind, professional, and knowledgeable, and the facility itself is always immaculately clean. My adopted beagle mix suffers from pretty significant anxiety and aggression issues, and the animal infirmary knows exactly how to handle her. I always request Dr. Schwartz, and vet technician Amanda. They both are incredibly skilled at their jobs, and show such love and compassion for my special needs pup. I can't say enough about these women, they really are amazing at what they do.Aside from being compassionate, Dr. Schwartz literally saved my dog's life. She knows my pup as if she were her own, and is very intuitive when it comes to any ailments she is experiencing. Dr. Schwartz made the right call about a life threatening condition she expected my pup might have, and had me take her to Blue Pearl straight from their office. Turns out it was IMHA, and had I not gone that night, my girl probably wouldn't be with me today. Since then it's been two years of recovery, all managed with a watchful eye by Dr. Schwartz. I'm happy to say that thanks to her, my girl is now as good as new!I'm sure the other vets and techs are great as well, but if you can, ask for Dr. Schwartz & Amanda...and tell them Joon's mom sent you! My girlfriend and I took our cat in because we thought she had asthma. Unfortunately, it turned out that she had cancer in her lungs. But from the moment of telling us her condition to the moment we left the hospital, the staff was unbelievably helpful and caring. The doctor gave us time to ourselves when we heard the news, then whilst considering our options, and continued to wait until we were ready to move forward. Meanwhile, a nurse had been standing up, giving our cat oxygen as she moved around for over an hour. Every employee was so sympathetic, told us how sorry they were, and continuously asked if there was anything we could do. I've been coming here for 8 years with my first dog, and have now brought my new puppy here for his vaccinations and check ups. Every doctor I've worked with has been kind and patient, and the support staff is friendly to both me and my dogs. It's conveniently located within walking distance for me, so that certainly helps, but I would still come even if I lived further away. Read Less
