My pets have been long time patients of Dr Tokiwa and others on his staff. Dr T knows I ask pertinent questions and these are always met with intelligent and thoughtful responses. He takes his time , meets and greets my dog before an exam ,  is alwayscompassionate ,professional  and most important ,accurate  in his diagnosis and treatment plans. If he isn't 100% sure , he will research and call specialists without hesitation. This is the sign of an excellent doctor. Our family brings total of 3 dogs , not once have I felt anything but confident and satisfied. If my dog could talk she would say she loves him and the entire wonderfully sweet and smart staff . Our first time here with one of our little pitties and we are so happy we transferred his care here. Everyone was wonderful from making the appointment, checking in, seeing the Dr and the after care call a couple of days later. The last vet wanted to schedule surgery quickly and frightened us. Here the vet said there are smaller, easier steps we can do to see if surgery is actually needed and made a plan with us that seems much safer and sensible. They are caring and you can tell that they all love what they do. I already made another appointment for my other sweet pittie. I completely recommend going there. Read Less

This business lacks the professionalism and expertise that you should expect from a veterinary practice. When our dog was sick, they left her inside of a cage for over 10 hours because their office couldn't appropriately schedule the visiting specialist, and they couldn't effectively communicate with families about expectations. In addition, they've tried to bill me twice for unnecessary services because they lack the coordination and organization to appropriately manage their facility. Lastly, it took them over 10 business days to communicate vital test results for our dog, and they only reluctantly (when we decided to leave the practice) decided to recommend that we visit a specialist, although this is what was warranted since the tests were completed. I would recommend that you NOT use this practice - your dog or cat will thank you for it! Read Less

The Animal Hospital and its staff have set the GOLD STANDARD for care of our animals. I've been beyond thrilled with all of our experiences here over the last seven years that we've been clients. We've been bringing all six of our animals (three dogs, three cats) here, and Dr Tokiwa (Dr T!) and his staff have always taken the time and care to thoroughly understand our animals and their needs. They have not stopped at their first diagnosis, but have gone on to make sure that they were able to recommend the very best treatment possible. Dr. T saved the life of my favorite girl-dog with a very tricky surgery. He has been compassionate when we decided, for behavioral reasons, that our three-year-old stray needed to be euthanized (such a painful decision that it changed the course of my life), and all the staff have taken the time to make my big 86lb goofy dog feel comfortable about getting a needle stuck into him (he howls like a teenager). Our cats have had their own set of unusual diagnoses, and never once did I feel the need to second-guess the advice that I was getting from them. Oh, and last but by no means least, the vet techs have been awesome in the quality of care and questioning that they give. Guys, keep on doing what you're doing because it's awesome! You're worth every penny. I'm only sorry that we're moving house to Connecticut next week and I'm going to lose you all. Read Less

My dog, an older dog, was misdiagnosed at another veterinary group and almost died. I was told that she had 'prolapse' when she really had a mass, and a secondary mass on her vaginal wall. After almost bleeding to death, and then almost dying because she started to have serious trouble urinating, I sought the help of Animal Hospital at Kingston NJ. By this time my dog had lost a lot of weight and appeared to be going downhill rapidly. AH at Kingston gave her a serious antibiotic injection and another injection to relax her. If it didn't work, overnight, she would have died.It worked. My dog was evaluated by Dr. Seltzer, and surgeon Dennis Ting who discovered that the issue was a double mass that needed to be removed. All tests confirmed that there was no cancer. Dr. Ting removed the two growths in surgery and I was able to take my dog home that very evening.Outside of being a little uncomfortable, my dog was in very good shape. She has now re-gained all of her weight and is energized and healthy. I am so grateful to Dr. Ting and Dr. Seltzer for diagnosing my dog Blue properly, and for the treatment that they gave her, which saved her life. Btw, the issue of the misdiagnosis, went on for 2 months with the former vet constantly trying to push the mass (which he thought was a prolapse back into the vaginal wall - there were issues with having to watch her at all times because of possible mutilation, not to mention the uncomfortable life that she had for several months). He did not move beyond this mode of treatment. Also, I found that the Animal Hospital at Kingston, unlike others, truly cares about the animals that are treated there. This is the best Veterinary Office in the area. I live in Princeton and it is very convenient, located off of route 27.If you don't have a Veterinary Office - this is the one for you. If you feel unsure, and want a second opinion (as I did) this office will be able to help you. Read Less

I should start by saying that I have only been to the Blawenburg location and have primarily been seen by Dr. Weisner there (though we have seen Dr. T) on occasion. But based on my experience they are absolutely fantastic. I've been to other vets in the area and was really disappointed with the lack of time and energy they were willing to spend on me and my dogs. Dr. Weisner and Dr. T have both been really amazing through both routine care and emergencies. My dogs both loved going into the office (maybe because of the cookies!!) and Dr. Weisner especially was really willing to talk me through whatever I needed regardless of how much of her time I was taking up- I have one dog who's had allergic reactions to routine vaccines and this year she talked to me on the phone for almost an hour before my pup's shots so we could come up with a plan to keep her safe (and to keep me from freaking out). The office staff is phenomenal (especially Butters!!) and I was really appreciative of the fact that they took time out of their busy days to check up on us when my dogs were sick- there was one period when they called every day for a week just to make sure my dog was ok after an accident (which was again more for my sake than my dog's I'm sure- she ended up being just fine but I was a wreck!). In any case, we recently moved out of state and I am already missing them. Definitely go check it out if you're looking for a compassionate and competent vet. They are a bit pricey (as is everything in the Princeton area) but in my experience worth it! Read Less

The Animal Hospital at Kingston and Blawenburg have recently opened a second location in Skillman.  This has been the best experience I have ever had a vet.  At my first appointment the Dr. was so friendly and took the time to make my pup feel comfortable (shes a rescue and sometimes has some fear aggression barking etc).  there were not 15 dogs and cats in the waiting room which also helped her to feel comfortable and we have never waited long.  The receptionist even told me I could request that no one be there when I come since my pup has some issues and they would make sure the waiting room was clear.  The Dr. took her time explaining why she thought my pup need each vaccination (her husband is a vet drug rep so she is up to date on all vaccination info) and the vet tech was equally knowledable and pleasant..in fact Ithink my dog might like her better than me as she always tries to get back in the back room with her! Overall, the staff at Animal Hospital of Kingston and Blawenburg are phenomenal and it is so apparent how much they care about the animals, not making money which is a breath of fresh air these days.  I would recommend this experience to any animal owner. I cannot speak with regards to Dr. Tokiwa simply because we did not see him.  We met with a women whose name I do not recall and left convinced that all this place wants is to make as much money as possible and does not care about the well being of your animal.  According to the vet, our dog needed over 8 teeth pulled based off their 30 second analysis of looking at him for the first time ever.  It might have been because our appt was scheduled for 15 min before closing and all they wanted to do was close.  Our dog has never shown any signs of pain.  He is 3.  Very young and happy.   He went in for routine check up.   We got a second opinion from a volunteer vet who would do the surgery for free if needed and they mentioned how the dog should not get anything pulled if he is not in any pain.   Plus the tooth the first vet said was dead, actually wasn't according to the second vet.  WIth a father as an oral surgeon, I showed him the estimate and he was fascinated how the cost to extract teeth from my dog is more than a person.  I do not recommend this vet.  There are a lot of other options in the area.   Going to Kingston is much like getting your oil changed.  Your car runs fine.  No issues.  Its brand new. You take it in for an oil change and they come up with something to bill you extra for. Read Less

First he had an examination by a man who turned out to be an aide, who was so knowledgeable and thorough that I thought he must be the doctor. Then a long visit with Dr. Tokiwa, lots of discussion of all my questions and concerns. All during the visit, which involved multiple shots, a medicine given up my dog's nose, dis-impacting of the anal glands and a poop smear, the doctor and his assistant were so kind and gentle, and my dog was not afraid at all. The doctor recommended a medicine that they do sell there, but also told me about several cheaper alternatives, which I appreciated. KAH is definitely our animal hospital for life!Read Less

I called back after several weeks but the animal hospital just told me to wait longer. It's just a pure waste of money. Read Less

I was thoroughly impressed with the hospital from top to bottom. I arrived on time and was seen almost immediately. My pet has had a chronic issue and I had taken him to several other Vets. When I explained the situation Dr. Tokiwa actively listened to my description and ran me through a series of questions to narrow down the causes. His course of action to treat my pet was carefully explained. His staff was friendly and helpful and very professional. Read Less

We've been taking our cats to the Animal Hospital at Kingston for several years, and we've always been impressed by the quality and consistency of care they've received. Recently, when one of our cats got sick, Dr. Schwartz went above and beyond in treating him, and then made sure to check in with us on multiple occasions to make sure his condition was continuing to improve. Suffice it to say we won't be taking our cats anywhere else for their medical care -- the treatment they receive here is superb. Read Less

I am writing to review my experience at the Animal Hospital at Kingston as the level of care and compassion I received from Dr. Pearson over the life of my dog, Puma, was exceptional.  She treated Puma with smart, common sense care and understood our ongoing struggle to balance the best possible treatment with our limited family budget.  I felt supported and never guilty about the tough decisions I had to make for our dog.   Dr. Pearson was a true partner in the care and treatment of our Puma until the very end and I can't thank her enough for the way she touched our lives.

Read Less

As a pet care professional, I frequent many of the Princeton area vets with other people's pets. Their technology and skills are matchless. I never feel rushed through visits and know that every member of the team is focused on my dog or cat's wellness and healing. I always get follow up telephone calls to check on my pet. Their client education programs and brilliant staff have taught me how to be the best parent/guardian I can be. My pets are my family. Read Less

I love the Kingston Animal Hospital!  Everyone at the hospital is very friendly, and the technicians and doctors are very professional and keep me informed about all of the procedures, at-home-care, etc.Calling the office is never a dreaded chore because the people are very helpful and timely.  I have never had any problems scheduling an appointment. My cats get very anxious during the ride over, but once we get to the office, they are fine.  The technicians handle my cats very well - I actually learn new handling tricks every now and then just by watching the techs interact with my cats. The care does not just end after the visit.  I always get a phone call the next day or so if the cats received shots or something because they want to check and make sure my cats aren't exhibiting any adverse side-effects.  I just had them fixed, and have received follow-up phone calls for three days after the operation.  The Kingston Team truly cares about the health and well-being of my cats, as well as the occasionally overly-anxious owner (me).I highly recommend this animal hospital!  My two polydactyl cats and I give it six thumbs up! When I came to the Kingston Animal Hospital with my dog, everyone was so friendly. My dog can be loud and lively, but it was just no big deal at KAH. Everyone treated him like their own dog.
