I have been bringing my dog here for the past few months. I enjoy the waiting area which has water, coffee and snacks and the front desk associates are attentive and helpful to incoming patients. The vets I've seen here have been helpful and insightful. I really enjoy the personal phone calls and explanations from the vets. However, I will have to agree with some of the other reviews that say this place overcharges for services. Regular check-ups are comparable in price to nearby vets, but if you are having any type of procedure the prices are high. I inquired about a dental cleaning and I was told I would be emailed an estimate. The estimate was from $828-$1,145. I called and asked if this was a mistake and they said no it's just Incase they need to pull any teeth and a nurse sits with the pet throughout recovery. My pets teeth are in good shape according to the vet, but i wanted to inquire about a cleaning to prevent any gum or teeth problems in the future. I said nothing about pulling teeth, yet the price is still high. It is half the price at nearby vets that also stay with your pet throughout the 1-2 hour recovery and they also include the pain medications in their price. There is a $100-$400 fee alone for misc professional services at Maywood. I would recommend this vet office for regular checkups, but have a backup plan if your pet ever needs surgery. I wish there were enough words to express how impressed I was with Dr. Swan and Kristen ! We came here because we have a hospice foster dog and this was a vet that offered services for the shelter. I have to be honest I was not expecting the care and concern they showed us. I plan on taking some of my own pets here moving forward.  The office was clean and the staff great. Dr. Swan was patient with our little senior citizen dog and explained things to us and encouraged questions. I highly encourage everyone to take their pet here and they are open seven days a week. Two weeks ago I made an appointment at Maywood Veterinary Clinic and met with Dr. Jay Buchholz regarding teeth cleaning for my Yorkie. My family member lived close by to this clinic and the reviews on yelp were raving.  I had seen Vets in the city prior to this visit but I decided to stay with Dr. Buchholz because my Yorkie had 3 loose teeth in the front of her jawline that I really wanted to save.  Dr. Buchholz examined my dog and told me that she might lose those teeth but he will try his best to save them.  He said that if I decided to stay with Maywood Veterinary Clinic to make the appointment with him and he would try his best to save those teeth.  It was a huge inconvenience for me since I live in Manhattan, but I really did not want my dog to loose any teeth at 2 years of age.On Tuesday March 26, 2019 my Yorkie went in for her procedure the technician stated that procedures usually start around noon and my dog should be ready to be picked up after 5pm.  I was told that they will contact me via phone or txt message and we also gave her a 2nd number to contact just in case I did not pick up the call.  That day I waited until 4pm, gave up and contacted Maywood Veterinary Clinic for an update.  The gentleman that answered the phone told me that Isabella was doing well and she will be ready for pickup by 5pm.  I asked him how did she do during the procedure and did Dr. Buchholz remove any of her teeth.  He said he did not have any of that information but the technician will speak to me once I come in to pick her up.  I arrived at Maywood Veterinary Clinic around 6:45pm on Tuesday very anxious and nervous.  I informed the receptionist that I was there to pick up my dog Isabella that had a dental cleaning.  He said yes she is ready to be picked up but I still had a balance of $645.00.  I was very confused when I dropped off my dog I left a $300 deposit and the price was $585.51.  I asked him if Dr. Buchholz had to remove her 3 teeth?  He said actually he removed 8 teeth.  I started shaking... gave him my credit card and told him that my dog was only 2 years old and why didn't anyone from the office contact me.  He charged my card and told me that the technician will be out shortly and she will answer all of my questions.  I was numb, distraught, shocked, and ashamed. I had the opportunity to choose the right vet but because I thought he was going to save my dogs teeth I chose the wrong one.  I felt ashamed and I knew he had taken advantage of me and my dog.  It was never about the money, I would have gotten a second job to give my lil pup the best 10 years of her life. When the technician gave me my dog she told me that Dr. Buchholz had to remove all of those teeth because they were all single rooted.  I have a small 6 pd dog, majority of all her teeth are single rooted.  Dr. Buchholz never came outside to speak to me, he never contacted me.  No explanation no reason why his decision changed from 3 to 8.  My dog is now missing 5 teeth just in her front top and lower jawline.  This decision was made by Dr. Buchholz without consulting me or giving me an explanation. I really like this vet office. I like the fact that their hours are very accommodating and they use the latest and greatest in medicine. After having back pain for months, Sampson (5 years old 5lb longhair chihuahua) finally got the answer to his prayers: laser treatments. Cold laser treatments have helped him tremendously and now he is feeling so much better. The staff here really knows their stuff and is very thorough. Highly recommend this place. Reason for not giving a 5th star: Only complaint: sometimes (rarely, but it happens) there will be an emergency where someone needs to urgently come in and it will make the appointments run behind. They do charge those people a premium to come in when they have to squeeze them and make other people run late, but they don't give any type of accommodation discount to the people that ran late. One time I waited almost 40 minutes in the waiting room and I just feel like saying "well it's great that you guys profited an extra 30 bucks off someone needing to squeeze in but the rest of us are still here waiting for our appointments". They should really do something for the people that wait due to emergencies. Even a "10.00 off your visit for the inconvenience" would be appreciated. Just an idea. Read Less

My experience with this place, after taking our cats there for several years, is mixed.  All of the vets and the techs that have seen our cats have been excellent. They are the main reason this clinic gets 3 stars, although I am debating if they should have 2 stars. They have seen us through a variety of issues primarily with our cat, Kali.  She's had dental extractions done through them, and they helped us manage an illness with her in 2016 that was incredibly stressful for us to deal with since it started with us thinking that she had injured her paws and ended with the removal of a mass in her chest at Oradell.  Her condition is now managed with Dr. Swan who is excellent.My experience with the staff at the front desk has been less than optimal, and my most recent experience has driven me to write this review.  Some of the receptionists have just been really rude. There have been minimal to minor negative interactions with the front desk over the years.  One example: one of the receptionists who I don't believe is there anymore, would just refuse in a nasty tone to fax or send over our documentation to the pet insurance company, claiming that they didn't do it for ours.  I knew they did it for other companies which I thought was unfair, but didn't comment on it at the time.  So I spent what must've been the next year managing the submissions myself until one day, one of the other receptionists offered to send the claim form over for me.However, a recent incident made me wonder if I should look into getting a new provider.  When I had to get a prescription refilled for our cat who needs medication given to her daily, I got told several things that made me wonder who the person on the phone thought she was.  First, I got told that they no longer carried the medication in their clinic and that I would have to order it through the online pharmacy.  I had no problem with this except for the fact that we had run out of the medication that day. Keep in mind: we've had to get refills for the past two years at least and were very used to being able to put in orders without a wait time outside of a day or two before pickup.  We were not told that this would end up happening.  I explained as much to her.So then I asked more about the online ordering process and was told that it would be 3-5 business days before I received the medication. I inquired about getting a written prescription at that point, because I then thought that I would have to spend the rest of the day hunting for a way to get my prescription filled at either other providers, or another clinic, or something like that. I did not have the luxury of waiting 3-5 business days for her medication. I explained as much to her, since we give her medication every day.  I think that this was a reasonable reaction, given my circumstances.  I was then told, in multiple different ways, that most people just use the online pharmacy.  She then conceded that she "guessed" that they could provide me with a written prescription. I'm not sure what the deal was with pushing the online pharmacy with me.We then ended up getting into another conversation off of this one.  I was told in a very unnecessarily aggressive tone, that there would be "no way we could authorize the prescription" since she was due for her wellness exam.  Didn't we talk about how she takes medication daily and ran out?  Didn't I ask about getting a written prescription because she's told me I can't pick up the medications from them?  I replied to her that we had no problem bringing her in for her check-up but that I really needed to get her prescription filled.Obviously waiting for an exam or an online order taking 3-5 days for delivery isn't an option.I then asked the next question, which I think anyone would inquire about in my situation, "I have no problem with scheduling her check-up but I am not sure what to do now since we've just run out of the medication.  In the past, it was never more than a day or two between refills.  So what do you suggest I do?"  She proceeds to tell me that she would "check in the back" to see if there were any leftover medication and puts me on hold. You mean after all of this unnecessary hassle that you might be able to "magically" fill the prescription after all?  She then tells me that they do have some of it left and that I can pick it up.  Looks like we wasted time. What would have happened if I hadn't kept asking about it!?  The attitude exhibited to me on the phone was aggressive & completely unnecessary.  Anyone who looks at our charts would see that we try bring them in for wellness visits yearly and even pay for the vaccinations despite the fact that they are both indoor cats.  I have proof from our insurance company & records that show it.There is 1 other negative interaction that I had once I brought my cat in for her check-up, but I'm unable to write about it here due to Yelp limitations with characters here.  (This is already a lengthy review) Read Less

My girlfriend and I just got a 3 month old French Bulldog puppy. It is our first puppy/pet together and we were looking to go somewhere to get honest and professional information and care.We met with Dr. Swan who was incredible! He was more than helpful and was beyond insightful. He really knew what he was talking about and provided us with a ton of useful information in a way that made sense to us as first time puppy parents.He also helped to put as at ease with a lot of the worry that comes with owning a French Bulldog, with all of the potential risks/health issues. He did a thorough evaluation of our puppy, Maddie, and provided us a complete list of what was needed and when as she continues to develop.Dr. Swan was great and a true professional! Friendly and knowledgeable staff, took my buddy Moe here because of a urinary blockage. He stayed overnight for a few days and came home. The staff said he was a sweet heart and he has been able to go number 1 ever since, but he is also on a special diet. Luckily the clinic sells the diet food and it is sold at a pretty reasonable rate compared to buying it online.The facility is pretty nice, they have scent diffusers everywhere because accidents to happen when pets get nervous, they have a complimentary snack and coffee station with a fantastic array of creamers too!I'll certainly be returning in the spring for his yearly check-up. After years of being nice & appreciative to Maywood Vet, they have @times falsely blamed me. Dr. Buccholz/Dr. Swan didnt stop me from coming there, its the Mgr.& those girls.The Mgr. changed her attitude/promises to me. My cat died a horrible, painful , disfiguring death few hrs. after being treated/released from Maywood Vet. Nobody called me back for 3-1/2 days.I had witness 6-4- 17they didnt call her. Nobody returned my voicemails 3 -1/2 days, I also called there every day & nobody acted like they knew. Dr.Swan told me he wouldn’t be in 6-5-17. Blackie died a horrible death after an enema, subQ fluids ,bloodwork & xrays. 1st unresponsive, then released because she “ passed a tiny (or small) piece of stool”. She died after straining to defecate @home& couldn’t, then walking dazed, screaming pain, back legs dragged, thumping front legs, she couldn’t walk, mouth exuding brown vile acrid smelly fluid, hrs after being released from Maywood Vet. My voicemails were ignored 3-1/2 days & their mgr. did nothing, very cold to me, got very abusive to me Fri. 5-4-2018.Never apologized, she wont answer ?’s,very insulting, refused to refund my $$, never gave me Senior Discount several yrs. now. Mgr. falsely calls Dr.Swan not charging me for xrays “Discount Enough “, there’s NO DISCOUNT ENOUGH on Blackie’s death!They never ignored the death of my animal patient B4.now is a huge betrayal, its appalling. I should've told Dr Buccholz the whole truth: she died a horrible, mortifying death hrs. after being treated/released by Maywood Vet 6-4-17: My many voicemails from Sun. to Weds. June 2017 were ignored by Maywood Vet.Also I kept calling in bus. hrs.3 days, nobody even knew Blackie died. It’s disrespectful, suspicious; not the norm for them. (I’m not w/them after all these yrs. because Tracy/those girls forced me out, went back on their word per $ arrangement.Tracy yelled @me, threatened me w/ Police & threw me out.) My cat began screaming in pain, couldn't walk, panting & her dead mouth exuded this acrid smelly vile brown fluid& it pulled a patch of skin/hair off her face where this ?Vomit gurgled onto the side of her face. Nobody called me back Sun. to Weds. I was left w/ Blackie’s dead body 4days. I kept calling also & DrSwan called me back later Weds. I will never forget this horrible betrayal as the mgr.got nasty w/me & falsely said “your cat died because your cat was old & sick”, Dr.Swan didn't hospitalize her & she died few hrs. later! Blackie never screamed before, she never had trouble walking& she never exuded vile acrid brown smelly fluid gurgling from her mouth, this was hrs. after an enema that didnt work/she died that way after release. Maywood Vet ignored me 3-1/2 days&, ignored my 6-4-17 witness. I’m still in shock They need to get a new mgr.They forced me out after all these yrs. , demanding payments in full @ time of appt, charging $88 per basic appt per pet. Tracy NEVERtold me they have Care Credit ! Nice to me in beginning but those girls blamed me sometimes for things not my fault, their mgr.is all about $$ & too bad for what happened. They never called to see if I needed help from their burial contractor, ignored me 3-1/2 days w/my cat’s disfigured dead body here. In the memory of my dead angel cat, she is not going to get away w/it. She never called me at all when my cat died, I had to call mgr. the following wk.Now she claims wrongly I didn't do anything about it! I sent them pictures of my cat’s disfigured dead body 6- 2017, the brown fluid, etc& they ignored it 2017& ignored my witness&mgr. won’t refund my $$.I can’t get over it. Those girls also forced me on the mgr, I wanted to talk to Dr. Buccholz, they didn’t tell me when he would be in. I was visiting my family in NJ and noticed he family dog was falling over. I called them around noon on a saturday and explained that my grandparents dog was falling over and they were able to fit me in that day! They charged their regular check up fee $66 and i let them know because it wasnt my dog i needed to only be seen before anything was done that would cost additionally. the vet did amazing at explaining everything and estimating everything and doing only what i felt comfortable with. This was our first time visiting Maywood Veterinary Clinic. My 7 week old puppy was having diarrhea, my I called to make an appointment, and they gave me an appointment on the same day I called. Dr.Swan was the Vet who saw our puppy and he was an amazing vet and really helped us understand what was going on with our puppy. We also had Liz Chessa help us out, she was a really big help. Had to have my older cat euthanized several months ago- very difficult situation. Dr. Mahalko was so patient and understanding- I am grateful to her for making the experience easier to handle. Currently have my newly adopted shelter kitty at clinic for tests and evaluation. Care she is receiving is beyond outstanding. Today was my first visit to the clinic with my 15 year old female tabby for a full workup and geriatric profile. The doctor and staff were *amazing* and that word falls drastically short of just how great they are. My puppy Nala may not be a fan of the reason going to the vet, but she sure loves to see all of her friends there ! The staff knows her as soon as she walks in and showers her with love and treats that she is basically jumping into their arms. When she had surgery I was so nervous but they sent me pictures and text messages of her progress throughout the day. The wait is never long, prices are fair, and the staff is stellar ! I can't say one bad thing ! I hope whoever reads this if you are unsure where to take your furry loved one, you take them to Maywood Veterinary Clinic ! Dr. Bucholz and his staff struck this first-timer as both highly competent and caring. I had my FIV+ cat in for a dental cleaning/scaling and extractions this week. My cat received a thorough physical examination and lab work and was boarded overnight (at no charge) because Dr. Bucholz wanted to send out for non-standard tests before putting the cat under anesthesia. The veterinary technician called both at night to share the lab results and after the dental procedure to report that things went fine. When I arrived to pick up my cat, after a bit of a wait (the place is bustling), Dr. Buchholz walked me through the digital x-rays of my cats mouth, placed the cat on the examination table to show me the work that was done, interpreted the bloodwork results and, finally, provided instructions on the administration of anti-inflammatory medication. They initially put a pain patch on my cat's leg but removed it for me when I explained that I would never be able to get it off on my own. I traveled 45 minutes to go to this veterinarian and it was certainly worth the trip. Highly recommended. Read Less

The staff at the Maywood Veterinary Clinic is outstanding! I recently had my little cat Pig in for a dental cleaning and could not have been happier with the service. The front desk was quick to answer any questions or concerns I had upon leaving my beloved kitty for her procedure. I called several times throughout the day to check in on her and not once did any of the technicians or receptionists seem bothered by my constant need for updates, as these are our children and I was one concerned mommy! Dr. Lim was so sweet and knowledgeable...this was the first time I didn't feel rushed at a Vet and my cat Tyson felt absolutely comfortable with her and the nurse assistant (Kelly).  Dr. Lim educated me on everything from his meds, to helping me find the best brands with the best deals on Amazon! Kelly even gave him a toy to take home because he was so good.  It is difficult trusting other people with our animals, but rest easy knowing that Maywood Veterinary hospital is a safe, clean and welcoming place for our most loved pets! I can't thank Dr B, Dr Swan and the staff enough for taking care of Roxy's abscessed tooth! I called at 5pm, was given an appointment for 930pm but received at call shortly after saying they had a cancellation and could I come in at 6pm! We saw Dr Swan, she was put on antibiotics and surgery was scheduled in 5 days. The next afternoon her face swelled up even more. I called the office and they had us come in right away. Dr B released some of the pressure, did the pre-surgical blood work and scheduled Roxy for surgery the next morning! During the day of the surgery, I was updated 3 times! My 14 year old Cairn Terrier was admitted in grave condition and was quickly diagnosed by Dr. Buchholz. The diagnosis was Leptospirosis which is a zoonotic disease which means it can be spread from animals to humans. When Max arrived his kidneys were shutting down and his liver values were extremely poor. He was put into the ICU and the treatment began. Day 2 we were not too hopeful because his blood values had worsened and he had lost 20% of his body weight in 3 days. Dr. Buchholz prepared us for the tough decision but thankfully it never came to that. Here is THE REASON this dog survived. Unlike Oradell, Maywood treats animals and their owners with dignity and compassion. They not only allowed us to visit our ill dog in the ICU but as he recovered we were permitted to hand feed him and give him love and encouragement. The entire Maywood staff was 'all-in' with Max. Every technician knew our dog's condition and his day's events like it was their own pet. They took pride telling us things like, "he ate a whole jar of baby food", or "he went outside to pee twice since you were here last". Even across the entire Labor Day weekend CVT Stephanie worked with us to come in 3 times a day for treatments. Once Max improved Maywood worked with us to get him home for rest because he was depressed and not sleeping enough. Their partnership in caring for what our dog needed both mentally and physically is what helped Max to battle Lepto and survive. I came here with two of my kids; my cat and my puppy the staff were very informative and friendly. The technicians and doctors take a considerate amount of time with you and your furry friend. Very great office! You can make appointments online. Took care of my pup when he decided to eat rolls of dental floss and had to be removed via foreign objects surgery. The staff are friendly and the doctors are patient with you in explaining treatments and solutions. This vet is 30mins away from where I live but I come back because of the service. Read Less

I brought in a stray cat a month ago who had been hanging around my back yard. It had been badly injured. It was an emergency visit and the only reason I took it here was because it was the only place still open at 8 pm on a week day.Dr. Wendy Lim and her staff gave the stray a once over and decided he needed surgery on his leg. It looked like he had been bitten by a small animal. Long story short, a couple of visits back and forth and $$$ later, the cat is now completely healed! Dr. Lim was great! She explained her diagnosis, she explained the recommended procedure and also provided us with an estimated itemized invoice of the services. She was professional and showed a lot of compassion.Thank you to Dr. Lim and to the entire staff for helping this cat recover so quickly.P.S. My wife and I decided to keep him. We named him Teddy! I was originally excited to go to Maywood Vet due to all the positive reviews, but my experience has been on the decline since my first visit there in April 2016. The first thing that didn't sit well with me was that they carry a paper card listing vaccines with associated pricing to the exam room -- but when the appointment was done and I went to check out, all the vaccines were priced a few dollars more. I let that go, understanding and accepting that perhaps the sheet I was shown during the exam was outdated. When I went to the next appointment for vaccine shots, I was charged an exam fee -- a fee that I was told would not be charged when coming in for my pet's second visit in order to get vaccine shots. The male front desk receptionist fumbled with an explanation, apologizing but not reversing the charge. I let that go too, even though I felt lied to / misinformed and thought that they should honor what was communicated to me previously during my first visit. Then, comparing what Maywood Vet charges for medications against reputable and well-known online sellers carrying the same exact brand meds (not generic), I decided to place an order online for my pet's medications in order to save money. The online store reached out several times to Maywood Vet for authorization, and heard no word at all. I then left a voicemail with Maywood Vet and received no call back. My husband then called, and was told that they do not email or call in approval of meds but that we could pick up the paper prescription. Not only did it take a total of 5 attempts to hear any word from Maywood Vet, but their explanation as to why they don't authorize sounded quite poor. Humans can order prescriptions online and have it authorized by their doctor without having to mail the original paper presecription to the online store, but apparently the same does not apply for pets (according to Maywood Vet). I give them a max score of 2 out of 5 stars. Although the vet herself and the vet techs/assistants seemed nice or friendly enough, after my repeated disappointments with Maywood Vet, I plan to change clinics and would not recommend them to others. This place are a bunch of thieves. Make animals my dog worst just to keep him more days so they can make money, took him out and still charged me for 2 days over 2000$ without given me s notice. Dr. Buchholz and the Maywood Veterinary Clinic cared for my beloved dog, Junior, for all his life. Although my dog is now an angel in Heaven, I can't help but to remember the excellent health care he received from this office!
