I've been taking my pets to NVH for 20+ years, but sadly the place has degraded in service, cleanliness and expertise. Prior to the pandemic, I would only ever see Dr. Bladek because he was extremely knowledgeable and caring. When you walked into a new room, it still smelled like cleaning agent and there was usually a sheen on the table after being freshly wiped. Emergency services were handled quickly and efficiently. I knew it was more expensive than other services in the area, but I was willing to pay that for Dr. Bladek and the "state of the art facility" they built. However, since 2020, and Dr. Bladek's retirement the place has gone to pot. (And that's a kind word, I'd like to use a different one.) In October, I brought my dog who had been having seizures in for an emergency check up. He was peeing uncontrollably and walking in circles. I called the front desk to let them know I was outside and wanted to check in but couldn't because I didn't want him to urinate all over. The woman who answered suggested I grab a urine sample while I was out there. "With what hand?" I asked. "I'm talking to you and holding a leash with the other." Then, she thought she might bother to get up and bring me a collection kit. After we came inside and checked in, I noticed a blood smear on the front desk as we sat for 2 hours in the lobby. We were put in a room that had fingerprints all over the doors, stains on the walls, the table had other animal hair on it and the floor looked like it had not been swept let alone washed because my dog found something interesting he kept trying to lick off of it. After waiting another 20 minutes, I went out and asked if they had an idea when the doctor could see us. They guessed another 2 hours. They told me it was because the single doctor serving emergency services was in surgery. My dog was feeling better so we left. This is not the first time this has happened. I have multiple examples where we've waited hours to be seen for an emergency. How is that emergency care? They are happy to charge you an emergency fee but only keep one doctor on staff to service all emergency cases as they rake in the cash and don't keep a clean facility. Oh, and that blood smear on the front desk? It was still there 2 months later, when I came in for something else. My latest issue is with the intestinal bacteria my cat picked up while undergoing an emergency dental procedure. As a result, he's had chronic diarrhea for 3 months. After running a bare minimum fecal test and finding nothing, they suggested a special diet, which also didn't work. He never had intestinal issues and this occurred immediately after bringing him home from the dental, so I had a feeling it was not just "IBS" as they suggested. I've been transferring all of my pets to Fredon Animal Hospital, and he was the last. I brought him there once, they offered to run a more extensive fecal exam, found the issue and he is currently under their care. I hope a new emergency facility opens up in Sussex County because it's unfortunate that we have to be subjected to this dirty, overpriced and understaffed facility. It's a shame to see the way it has changed. Read Less
