I am extremely unsatisfied with my visit on 12/22/17. A few weeks prior to my visit, I had called and spoke with a woman named Becca, explaining the reasoning as to why I would be needing to utilize their boarding services for my 3 months old kitten during my trip home for the holidays. I was driving from VA to NJ, and needed a half-days boarding for her, and she verified that I would need to come in a little early to have my kitten examined by one of their veterinarians. She did not once, ever mention that there was a possibility that my kitten would be getting shots, and confirmed that the total cost of the boarding services would be $90. Fast forward to 12/22/17. I arrive at Oakhurst and was welcomed by very kind women at the front desk who were able to put my kitten and me in one of their rooms while we waited for the veterinarian. I thought I had picked a good spot when I saw how comfortable my kitten was around everybody, and felt that she would be in good hands once I left (since I was very nervous leaving her at a new place for a few hours). 20 minutes later, a male vet comes in, (I unfortunately do not remember his name nor do I ever want to remember it). My kitten was not fond of him and to be honest neither was I. He barely examined her, and appeared nervous to since she was hissing at him. All of a sudden, he says to the vet assistant, "let's wrap her in a towel, and make her more comfortable." He pulled out an instrument (which at the time I thought was a thermometer) and thought he would be taking her temperature. He did NOT once inform me of what he was going to be doing next, but then all of a sudden I see him injecting some vaccine into my kitten without ANY of my consent. As he quickly reached for the second needle (which I then quickly realized it was) I immediately informed him to stop and demand what he was injecting into my cat. Like before, he seemed completely nervous and had a look on his face as if he had done something wrong. He informed me that he had given her the rabies vaccine and was also going to give her the distemper one as well. I at this point am in tears and told him that she already received the distemper and was going to get the rabies vaccine from our primary vet in January, and that NOBODY told me she was going to be receiving shots. His comment to me was, "Well, didn't the front desk inform you that she was going to get the vaccines?" Um no, they hadn't. And to be honest I would NEVER let my kitten get vaccines form a vet that I had never been to before, and especially right before I had to finish my 4 hour drive back home to CT. God forbid she had a negative reaction on my way home, and I couldn't get her to an easily accessible vet?! I would no way, consent to that and wrote down everything Becca had said to me weeks prior when planning this visit, and nothing about vaccines was ever mentioned. Well, prior to the vet coming in I had in fact informed the vet tech that my kitten did receive two treatments of the distemper vaccine, and it should have been in the records that I had sent over to them. The male vet confirmed that they weren't, so that is when I immediately called my veterinarian to confirm that they were. The vet tech at my primary veterinarian had assured me over the phone that they were listed on the medical records. Now this could mean one of two things: 1) they were never forwarded by the staff who receives incoming mail or 2) read by the actual vet. But my senses tell me that it is number because the second I sent the records over (which was the same day I made the appointment), I called and spoke with Liz to verify that they received, which they had. They tried to charge me $140 for the visit, rather than the $90 that I was originally told. They didn't make me pay for the vaccine- which to be honest I would have reused to pay for anyway since nobody told me that they would be doing that, but tried to charge me for her stool sample I brought Again, I was never informed of the additional charges prior to my visit. I told Becca, (who at this point was claiming that it wasn't her who I spoke with) that I would not pay for that to be sent out and again, because nobody informed me.A word of the wise to Oakhurst Employees, please learn how to communicate before you mess up another persons day. Your lack of communication was extremely unprofessional and you could have made my kitten very sick if I hadn't yelled at the vet to stop giving her vaccines. I will NEVER, recommend this vet to anyone, and will NEVER, be back at this place ever again. Read Less
