I recently moved and now live with my fiancé and between us we have three cats. Yesterday I found blood in the litter box and they were able to get me an appointment for my one cat the next day no problem. I came back tonight to have my other 2 cats checked out and so far have had nothing but positive experiences with both visits. Both doctors I spoke with were very knowledgeable and the vet techs that were there were also very nice. All of the women at the front desk were kind and courteous since the very beginning, especially Alyssa! She even recognized the comic book character my cat is named after. I actually left there laughing and in good spirits afterwords. I highly recommend this facility, and will now be bringing my cats here instead of my usual veterinarian from now on. if i could give 0 stars i would!!  this place is beyond disgusting and disrespectful!!!   the front girl receotuonis are extremely nasty and rude!!   we have been taking our dog here for the last year and unfortunately a very poor choice!!!we have been great paying clients and always pay anything that is requested without complaint until last night was the last straw!!!   the front desk nasty nasty girls need to be fired immediately!!!   i was threatened by the front desk girl alyssa last night that if i didnt pay the emergency room visit they would call the cops on me and laughed and screamed at me when i refused as their very young tech did not express my dogs anals properly last week and when she came home she had diareah and blood coming out so of course we were concerned and wanted a doctor and not a young tech to look at her!!  when i called last night alyssa whom i hardly even know since my husband takes our dog for all her appointments answers the phone really nasty and annoyed and i explained the situation and what happened that the technician did not do a good job she immediately had an attitude with me for saying that and said i should come in last night instead of waiting until saturday. so i told her i would try to make it for 7:15 but not sure if i would make it?  i called her back after 7 saying i wouldn't make it by 7:15 that probably could be there by 7:30 7:40 at the latest. she then proceeded to tell me if i come at 7:40 they would have to charge me an emergency room visit which is about $100 - $150 more and i said im not paying that.  that we shouldn't have to be charged so much for something the tech didnt do correctly anyway??  well she didnt like that i said that and priceeded yelling at me and hanging up on me!!when i called back i asked to speak to an office manager or doctor and they wouldnt put anyone on the phone???she then proceeded to tell me that they dont deal with anyone with mental illness and that they would call the cops!!!   i just couldn't believe what i was hearing!!!   laughing at me taunting me and threatening me with police???  how dare they!!!   this was all because i wouldn't let them charge me for an emergency room visit!!!   mind you we have spent soooo much money there over 1 year with my dogs operation and constant checkups and monthly anal extractions which by the way they charged us $45 for a routine anal extraction by a young tech who didnt even do it right and made my dog have diareah with blood in it too!!  very scary!!  so we were going there to see what happened and fix what ever the young inexperienced tech did last week to make her have the runs with blood so to attack me for not wanting to pay that extra emergency room visit fee was totally disgusting and on top of it threatening me with police if i called again and laughing that i had mental illness is beyond words!!!   i spoke to management today and they arent doing anything about the front desk nasty nasty girls that attacked me and had the nerve to say we mailed back your records and go find another vet!!!    i couldn't believe what i was hearing???   they defended those rotten nasty girls at the desk and said sorry it didn't work out with them and to go somewhere else!!!   how dare they!!!   are you kidding me???  they totally attacked me from the 1st phone call and me not wanting to pay emergency room visit so they call me mental and threaten me with police??i have been there maybe a total of 2 times with my dog and all the other times my husband takes her which was alot so they really dont even know me and attacked me for absolutely no reason over the phone other than them trying to squeeze more money from us and this was the techs fault not ours!!!   we have already contacted an attorney and we are pressing charges and filing a law suit for threats with police and demeaning my character laughing at me saying im mental!!   i worked for the phone company for many years even met my husband there not mental at all and how dare they!!!   please please please do not go here!!!   its ashame we really liked the doctors but that front desk whos representing the doctors are horrible and threatening!!   please see the other reviewer's on the front desk too saying how miserable they.are!!!law suit coming their way!!! We saw Dr. Aquilar who was wonderful! First time meeting her but so glad she gave Topsy her wellness exam. Dr Aquilar was thorough and explained everything and wrote it down for us. We just moved to the area and didn't have a vet yet. Our oldest dog, 15 years old Yorkie/Maltese mix, started having issues that needed to be addressed same day. I called and the front desk was so nice & got me an appointment same day. When we arrived, they did a quick check on him to make sure he was okay to stay in the waiting room while we wait. I appreciate that. We didn't have to wait long at all to be seen. When we went in, the tech listened attentively and took notes. Asked clarifying question when needed. The vet came in & was so patient and loving to our dog. The whole visit was so pleasant. We had to get an x-ray and a bunch of physical tests plus about 3-4 medications and I was expecting it to be really expensive but it was totally affordable. Very "Green" new Dr. out of school, Katelyn Litchko, should not be working on her own at this point. Was very concerned about the diagnosis and "dire" situation and decided to seek other care. Only to find out there was no "dire" or emergency situation and medications were missed diagnosed and prescribed. Will not be going back. Pup is absolutely fine under another Vet's care. Did not appreciate being so stressed out when it was not necessary. Hospital should really think about hiring right out of school with little to no experience. Read Less

On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, I had to put down my pet, Sasha. Sasha was my BEST FRIEND for 15 years! She was loving, loyal, and exhibited true happiness when she saw me. Due to medical reasons, which were sudden and unexpected, I had to do the unthinkable thing, that really broke my heart. On this day, I rushed to Route 516 Animal Hospital. From moment I met with Doctor Marni Cohen, until the very last second of my goodbyes to my friend, Sasha, Dr. Cohen and her staff were SO kind, understanding and compassionate towards me, my daughter and Sasha. This was one of the hardest things to do, but my surroundings of the SINCERE, sympathetic staff really helped me through. After my experience, recommendations, and meeting the staff, I will definitely start taking my other pet there too! I highly, highly recommend Route 516 Animal Hospital! This animal hospital might be a little expensive compared to other veterinary clinics in the area. But the office is clean,the office staff is very friendly. The vet techs are very good, and the Doctor(Cummings) we use is excellent with my Takara (female Akita).So that is what really counts!! I always feel so welcomed when I bring my dog in. The front desk women are always very friendly, the nurses are very patient and sweet, and Dr. Maritza Rodriguez is just the absolute best. She shows genuine compassion for my dog and calls after almost every check up. My family has had our beloved dogs taken care of at Rte 516 for over 20 years. A few years ago I met Dr. Andrew Lenton who treated Yukon our precious Golden Retriever. Yukon just passed unexpectedly yesterday. He is missed more than I could say. What I want you to know is Dr. Lenton is amazing. He cares for you as much as he loves your pet. We have been taking our dogs to Rt. 516 Animal Hospital for over 8 years and we have NEVER had a bad experience. Our most recent experience is what prompted me to write this review (which is long overdue)! Our 3 year old German Shepherd is close to 125 lbs. He is a big boy and I was a bit nervous about his visit because he does sometimes appear intimidating due to his size. During past visits, we had decided to use a muzzle because he was nervous also and we just didn't want him to react negatively to all of the people and animals in the waiting room. We brought the muzzle this time but there was absolutey no need to use it. Vet Tech Chandler met us in the parking lot and brought us in through the side door (great idea) so we bypassed the waiting room. She was fantastic that day and always...she is very kind, compassionate, friendly and sweet each time that I visit with one of our dogs. Her confident demeanor calmed my nerves. With the help of another tech Ali, they were able to successfully draw blood from Murphy's leg. Through teamwork, Dr. Cummings was able to conduct a successful exam with minimal discomfort to Murphy. No muzzle needed. By the end of the visit, I was almost in tears (happy ones) - proud of Murphy for doing so well and thankful to the staff for recognizing what was needed to achieve a good result. It was a team effort and watching them interact warmed my heart & calmed my fears. The entire staff is FANTASTIC! The girls at the front desk are friendly, competent and helpful - they keep things running with a smile! The vet techs are compassionate and I can tell that they love what they are doing...they CARE. Lastly, all of the doctors have my utmost respect and thanks for always, always taking time with my dogs. I never feel rushed and all of my questions are always answered. Some of the doctors that we originally used to see are no longer there but from our very first visit, we have seen Dr. Cummings and we LOVE him! I cannot say enough good things about him - just the fact that he will sit down at the dog's level and talk to the dog before & during his exam is heartwarming. He is great. We have also seen Dr. Rodriguez, Dr. Lenton and Dr. Cohen....I trust each and every one of them with handling the health and well being of each of my dogs. And last but not least, they follow up with phone calls to ask how a pet is doing if they were examined due to illness or some other problem....can you imagine? Our own doctors don't do that but the doctors at Rt. 516 go above and beyond. To sum it up, Rt. 516 Animal Hospital is a caring facility staffed by professionals who love what they do and they do it well! DO NOT GO TO THIS VET !This place is terrible. The past 2 times I went here was only because of an emergency and both times I had the worst experience possible. The first time my one year old puppy was having stomach problems and needed X-rays. And the unprofessional Dr. Lenton treated my dog like a vicious monster. My dog has never shown any aggression to anyone ever but he continuously repeated how " You better put a muzzle on her because These dogs get aggressive" and after I reassured him that she has never shown any aggression he went on and said. "Are you sure, there's a chance she might even attack you." I couldn't believe what I was hearing . So after that i started to go to the old bridge animal clinic across the street (which I yet to have any sort of problems) . I havent been back in almost two years until my dog got very bad allergies to the point her eye swelled up and the clinic was closed so I was forced to take her back the the animal hospital as an emergency. AGAIN i was furious. they gave her a steroid shot which work but then prescribed her antibiotics. I'm not a veterinarian so I listen to what they said and gave it to her. Well she's been taking it and has gotten very sick so I brought her to the clinic and they were In shock that they gave the pills to her they said "there was no reason for it whats so ever." The entire staff here is great! I took my buddy here a few times after he started to get sick. The doctors were honestly trying to do the right thing for me even when I was initially hesitant with their recommendation of treatments. My cat ended up being diagnosed with lymphoma and Rt 516 recommended I visit either Red Bank Veterinary or Garden State Animal Hospital as they were better suited for cancer treatments. The oncologist I spoke to told me that he would have recommended exactly the same as what Rt 516 did (and GSAH would cost more). When I was finally ready to put my guy down, I took him back to Rt 516. From making the final appointment to the end they were phenomenal and sympathetic. A week later they sent me a condolences card. They didn't need to; they performed their services and were paid, but that little extra of sending me a card signed by everyone in the office was a great example of their humility and care. My family moved to NJ a few weeks ago and we pass Rt 516 Animal Hospital on our way home. Our puppy, Sophie, had an injury to her eye last night and my first reaction was to call Rt 516. The receptionist was amazing, she took all of our info quickly and efficiently, and the staff was ready for Sophie as my husband walked in. They told us their plan of treatment and then called us with follow up info as the evening went on. Dr. Flanigan was so caring and compassionate that she took our little girl home with her last night to make sure she was ok. I picked Sophie up this morning and was greeted by a wonderful front desk staff, and Nancy took the time to come out and speak with me since her dog had lost an eye as well. She reassured me, gave me kind words, and I know there were no better hands for our fur baby to be in. My family has been going to this Veterinarian's office for 25 years! Over the past 10 years they have become more and more like an overpriced chain restaurant. The Doctors on staff are okay but the 2 Best ones, that took care of my first dog for 17 years never take clients anymore; they only do administration. All the other ones are decent but constantly changing, no familiarity. The Reception and Tech staff are the real problem though; they become more Incompetant and Miserable every time we visit. I don't even trust their Techs to cut my dog's nails anymore. Then this Morning after all these years, they downright refused to see our 2 dogs unless we could pay the Entire bill upfront... So Now they put the value of a dollar above the value of the dog's life. I am actually in tears over this. My dogs just need treatment and care, but now we have to find a new Veterinarian right away. Tried to charge me a five dollar file fee I offered to go down the street and buy a whole box files from Staples. Had an emergency, my dogs face was severely swollen. Worried that it might cut off her airway I was given an appointment immediately. The doctor was quick to give a diagnosis and treatment and monitored her for a couple hours. Swelling went down and the fee I was charged was very reasonable. My dog wasn't even a patient at Rt 516 animal hospital but from now on he definitely will be. He couldn't breathe and I just got in the car and drove to the nearest animal hosptial because I didn't think he would make it to our vet all the way in manalapan. We were seen immediately and the staff and doctors were so wonderful. They were able to help him. He needed to be sedated and have x-rays and was sent home with medication. I was preparing myself for a $1000+ bill but my husband and I were shocked at how reasonable they were for an emergency like that. We paid $375 and was worth it. Read Less

Unfortunately, we have had several pets with terminal illnesses and she has always taken as much time necessary to steer us in the right direction and give us feasible options. This was my first time to this practice and I was very pleased. My dachshund has back issues (common for this breed), and her flare ups are very uncomfortable and painful. I moved to NJ a year ago and I haven't had to use a vet here yet until now.. needless to say, I was recommended to them by a co-worker and when I called they were so accommodating and so compassionate.  They saw her right away and knew exactly what her issue was and gave her steroid pills (which is what she usually gets for her flare ups). They are very reasonably priced and Dr. Cummings was so honest because he could've made money off of me by giving her steroid shots first which at first I insisted and he felt it wasn't necessary to do the shots yet. He said the pills should work because he felt she was still able to walk. Sure enough 5 days later, she was her normal self. The staff was wonderful as well. Our dogs have been patients here for over 14 years, from a brand new lab puppy who lived to almost 13 to a sassy Cavalier King Charles who also lived a long life, to their "sibling", an adopted yellow lab mix, I can't say enough. From spay/neuter surgery, to surgery for an ear "blistery thing" to dentals where lots of teeth need to be pulled and acupuncture to try to help alleviate back/hip pain, to when we all knew it was "time", the doctors, receptionists and tech staff have only been kind, compassionate and caring for us and our dogs. My husband and I have been driving by this animal hospital for years. Yesterday, when our almost 21 year old cat was not doing well, they were the first ones that came to mind and I couldn't be happier with our decision. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by Katee, the receptionist, we were shown compassion. Dr. Cohen examined our girl and explained what was going on with her and then tenderly confirmed what we knew had to be done. We were provided with a private room and Dr. Cohen explained exactly what would happen and how. The procedure was never completed, as our girl decided to leave on her own. My husband and I are very grateful for the way we and our beloved pet were cared for. Right now, we are heartbroken over our loss and cannot fathom getting another pet. Whenever I have called for an appointment for my cats, they have been extremely helpful and get me in as soon as possible. The office is very nice. You can experience longer wait times here. I have been taking my Great Dane, Milo, here for the past 6 years. Every veterinarian has been great. We usually see Dr. Cummings who has always been wonderful. Recently we have been seeing Dr. Flanagan for alternative solutions to Milo's onset of Wobblers which can be very debilitating with no cure. Since his treatment he has improved and he is happy again. We took him to Washington, D.C. for the weekend and he was able to walk quite a bit. I give dr. Cummings and Flanagan all the credit for this. A specialty vet I had gone to for a second opinion only suggested the most expensive, invasive treatment with no alternative. I love 516 animal hospital and so does Milo. He continues to get more mobile as acupuncture and supplements continue. Updated: Milo had to be euthanized this past week. He had a hemangiosarcoma which presented no symptoms. The day that he became very ill, Dr. Flanagan and team rushed to care for him and gave him as good of care as any doctor could. He ended up in Red Bank where shortly thereafter we had to make the most difficult decision a pet parent could make. In our time of emergency though, Rte. 516 Animal Hospital was awesome and Milo was always was treated with love and expertise. I absolutely recommend them.Read Less

I started with Rt. 516 Animal Hospital 6 years when my dog, Molly, was a puppy. Then I went to another vet on the recommendation of 2 friends. I am so sorry I did. The front desk, vet techs and veterinarians are much more warm, friendly and understanding here compared to where I went for a few years. I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Rodriguez, who helped us through Molly's breast cancer. She was extremely knowledgeable, but more importantly, she delivered a compassionate demeanor that I certainly would not have felt from the other veterinarian, nor his staff. I have also worked with Dr. Livingston to clear up wound and ear infections, and again, I recommend her highly. I don't plan to deviate from these 2 outstanding professionals, and hope they are both at this practice for a very long time.Read Less

I called on Friday , I had a feral cat who needed help . I had fed and sheltered her for 11 to 12 yrs . But could only touch her if I was inside the house and she was on my deck . I could only rub her head and pet her back  , if I tried to come out side with her she ran . She had been bleeding from her ear and the lump kept getting bigger and always bleeding . I wanted to help her , I did not want her to die a horrible painful death like she looked like she was going to . She need to be put to sleep . She was sooo skinny , all I ever felt lately was skin and bones even though she ate every day . I open my door on Friday and she walked right into the house , what ever was growing out her ear was affecting her brain and I noticed she was now blind in one eye . She walked into my bathroom and I thought , ok here is my chance to capture her and get her to a vet to be put to sleep . I called RT 16 animal hospital , explained the situation , told them she was a feral and I needed to get her somewhere fast . They said ok , bring her in in about a hour . She said you are going to responsible for the bill , I said that is fine . I didn't want her to suffer anymore . Could you tell me how much , she just needs to be put to sleep . She told me $255.00 !!!!! I told her are you kidding ??? I don't have that kind of money for her , she said " Oh Well " that is what's it will cost you ! It told her forget it and thanks for their compassion for a feral ! I would find someone else ! I final found Country Vet on Englishtown Rd in Monroe , I explain to them , they were like bring her right in , I asked how much , and she said $55.00 . I told her I would be right in . Got there and the Dr heard my story from the girls and said only charge her $35.00 because most people wouldn't ever think about helping a sick feral . This man was a saint ! He said she wouldn't of gotten better , it was a large tumor growing out her ear , it had made her blind in the one eye and she really was so skinny . He put this Baby down with compassion and thanked me for helping her ! So there are vets out there for money and others who actually love and care for animals ! RT 516 vet is not one of them ! They are ok. So far other then a routine visits I haven't really needed any type of special attention. I have one cat and for the most part that does not require a lot of attention. My 1st visit there we waited for a while. By awhile I mean at least an hour to see the vet, who was extremely nice and friendly when we finally got into the room. I sent my husband on the 2nd yearly check up because I don't have the patience to sit for an extended period of time when I had a scheduled appointment. My issue is now. My cat has been exhibiting behaviors that are undesirable. After doing some research online speaking with the Vet is the 1st step. So I call the office and speak with a receptionist that offers me her personal opinions, ok great, but then goes on to express she does not have a cat and just is not sure. I ask to speak with a vet or to hear what a vet might suggest I do. This was on a Friday and a bit later in the day, I am told I will get a call back. Nothing. Nothing Friday, Saturday or Monday. I call again Monday and get met with the excuse of well none of us really know what to say. REALLY! How about you get me on the phone with a VET! Let me see what they have to say and have them tell me they have no idea. I ask if speaking with a vet is at all possible or should I call somewhere else. They assure me a vet will call me back but can't tell my any idea when.  Whenever they get down time, is what I am told. So that could be today or whenever!  I will see how this progresses but so far this has made me think that my issue, my cat and my business really is not that important and they must just be to busy to handle any of it. I just recently took my cat to this clinic because they were close by and took Care Credit. They seemed like they were very nice to her. When it was determined what was needed, to have her "anal glands expressed," the vet took her to a different room to have this done. I heard a cat screaming and was frightened it was my cat. I opened the door that the vet had walked out with my cat. There was a very rude man, who I later found out was a "tech" who insisted on me shutting the door, as if I had no right to be upset or question what was being done. I said that I heard a cat screaming and wanted to make sure my cat was okay. He callously kept insisting that I shut the door as if I was wrongfully looking behind the curtain. Another young man walked into the room with me and explained that their were different cats that were being kept and it wasn't my cat that was screaming. Later the vet told me that she may have let out a little noise, I remained concerned. I was sent home with an antibiotic to help with her problem of having soft stool, which I later found out I paid twice as much as I was told I would. My cat has had this antibiotic before, but this time she had a very severe reaction. She wouldn't eat for a day, and due to having an empty stomache threw up yellow bile only. This changed within 2 days, but she has had very runny diahrea for a week now. When I tried to tell the clinic about this, they said that she was probably having a reaction to the "taste" of the antibiotic because it's very bitter. This obviously makes no sense. I don't know if she was given the wrong medication or just the wrong dose. The receptionist took it to the back and of course came back and said it was the right med, and then just made excuses for everything. They would not apologize, or refund the 26.00 for the medicine which basically poisoned her. This vet clinic is downright scary. Please don't take your pets here. Read Less

Professional friendly staff; my two cats and dog have been going to this vet for a little over four years.  When I moved to the area, I was hesitant changing vets since I was very happy with their previous vet.  Reluctantly, I gave this facility a chance and have been quite pleased with their services.  I would certainly recommend to anyone who wants a vet who treats your furry baby as their own!
