They said that her liver numbers weren't good and if they didn't improve on Monday that they would put her down. Monday morning comes and they call my mother in law's daughter and tell her the cat made a miraculous recovery and she can go home, but they don't tell her what the liver numbers are. She takes the cat home and gives the cat the Insulin and liver medication they prescribed the cat for a month. Today early in the morning at 12:00 am the cat started dying. This hospital negligently sent home a cat that was in critical condition just so they could have my mother in law go back and get more money from her. If I could leave a no star review I would. This place is money driven. My dog pooped with blood , Barely examined my dog and came out with tons of paper work saying he needs X-rays and all sorts of test ...charged me $1600 ...also told me we needed to buy their food and feed it to him for a week. They made it seem like it was not an option... all to tell me he had some sort of mineralized bone he swallowed and it should come out in his poop. They gave him all types of meds and he reacted terribly to the meds ...all night he was panicking walking back and fourth wouldn't go to bed ....they also made me buy Purina vitamins from them to put in his regular food even though he already takes vitamins...looking to make extra money basically. The absolute most important facet of choosing a Vet, is the same as choosing a medical Dr. for a family member: Competency. Period. You will not find a more patient staff, from office administration, vet technicians, personal assistants, Dr. Yoshi, and Dr. Heather; They are so knowledgeable and explain things in a manner easy for pet parents to understand. They provide all your options so you can make a wise informed decision that is best for your pet. You always have choices and the information to make the right decision, even when it is not good news. They are caring, and attentive and yes just like a Dr's office you may wait; but everyone is given 100% of the time they need when it is your turn. I can't emphasize enough how many people feel rushed in and out like a factory at the Big Pet store hospitals, and I personally left every visit with questions and confusion from all the 'package and insurance' sales pitches. My pets and I are greeted by name and my patronage is valued and appreciated here. They do not take the loyalty for granted. They are grateful and appreciative for referrals and confidence we place in them. I cannot fathom a pet owner mentioning prices in a review of a veterinary office unless they are a 1st time pet owner and do not have any reality based experience with the similarities between human and pet healthcare costs. Tests, blood work, x-rays, etc; are all an integral part of diagnosing a pets issues in they're entirety. This is not Voo Doo ! it is science; the same as your healthcare at a doctors office. I brought my puppy here for her first check up and shots and we have been coming back since. They treat her so well, they are understanding of her excitement, affordable and have her best interest at heart. All the staff is very helpful and friendly. The staff is beyond friendly (to both me and my pup), I was walked through all shots/medicines in specific detail to avoid problems and they made my 1 1/2 year old dog feel very relax (which is a major achievement). I just got a puppy after 8 years since we put our last dog down and I decided to bring him to Clark Animal Hospital and it was the best decision i could have made for my baby boy. They are kinda fraud. Time and again charged us at least thrice of what other places charged. They speak really sweet so I was kinda swayed away but not getting cheated any longer. A dog that is a beautiful rescue who had impeccable health before his injury, now possibly has no alternatives to a life of paralysis and pain. -818.95 for 0 help to our dog. Rufus is most likely going to have to be put down unless we raise an astronomical amount of $ for an MRI and follow up surgery for a spinal injury that was diagnosed way too late because the vets at this practice did not follow through for our dog when we needed them to deliver his blood work results. This task that should be very simple and these people managed to royally screw it up! We called to make an appointment for our Sr. Dog Rufus after he injured himself. We weren't sure what happened to him so we said we needed an appointment for pain meds and X-Rays. They gave us an appointment for a Thursday afternoon and we took him with the idea that he'd get X-rays and pain meds. The dr. told us we needed to have blood work ran despite the fact that merely 6 weeks before he had a senior blood panel and normal check up done. We spent 818.95 for new (unnecessary) blood work and the pain meds. They told us X-rays were only done on Fridays and Tuesdays so we had to bring him back in order to see what was really wrong. Of course my family does not have the money to afford their high priced X-rays and when we called other vets they said they would offer discounts but of course wanted his updated blood work since they knew we would have it. We called after the 48 hour period and they said his blood work would be available and they said they were waiting for one more result so to call back Monday. We called Monday and they said the doctor would call us back later in the day on Monday - we never received the call. Then on Tuesday (120 hours after his Thursday appointment) we called 3x and the doctors were on lunch for an hour and 45 mins. We finally got in touch at the end of the day and they gave us his results over the phone. We had to wait until Wednesday AM to get a hard copy of blood work results in our hands. Our dog an appointment for a Thursday at a different practice, was given 3x the amount of pain meds and inflammatory, but unfortunately he is already in the prices of paralysis and he is still in severe pain. If these vets didn't treat us like second class citizens and followed through with our urgency when we called for results and didn't swindle us by scheduling a Thursday appointment when they knew X-Rays at their office only could be done on Fridays or Tuesdays, our dog might not be in the position he is in now! I am disgusted and truly hurt by these people. Please do not send your dog here if they are in need of urgent attention and assistance for injuries. These guys will swindle you for money and your dog will suffer due to their lack of following time lines for follow up calls for test results. Read Less

Way overpriced. When I moved to Clark I began to take my dog here after coming from a vet that I had no issues with. Firstly, let me say that the vet techs here are so amazing and helpful. I will continue to bring my dog for nail clippings and things of that nature. However, every time I bring my dog there for something besides vaccines (a tick bite, diarrhea) they bring me an astronomical bill (diarrhea bill was upwards of $1200) and try to convince you that that's what the dog needs. When I said that that seemed unreasonable, Dr. Heather proceeded to ask me what my budget was. I felt like I was at a used car dealership, I want to do what's necessary to treat an upset stomach I'm not going to bargain with a vet to see what I should or shouldn't get for my dog. I was extremely offended and told them I wanted to do what was absolutely necessary for my dog and nothing else. I still ended up spending over $500 including a medication that I later found out was for heartburn. I am looking for a new vet to bring my dog when he's sick. Read Less

Very overpriced veterinarian. I took my pets here for several years before I wised up and started taking them elsewhere. Each time I'd go in, it was for a wellness exam and shots. However, the staff, as if they were following a script, would seem to go down a laundry list of "recommended" tests and treatments on the computer screen, each more expensive than the last. Had I done everything they had on their list, it would have set me back what seems like over $1,500 per year per animal. I love my pets, but I'm not wasting money. I felt like they were trying to guilt trip me into thinking I'm a bad pet owner when they specifically make you initial on paper to decline each extra procedure. Just an overall uncomfortable experience. Each year the doctors or staff reported seeing a problem or two that they wanted to run some additional tests on, each at an added cost- like wax in the ear, or the animal shivering because the air conditioning in the exam room was set so low. Every single test came back normal; which, while I'm happy there was nothing wrong with my pet, I have trouble understanding why the tests were recommended in the first place. I believe a well trained doctor should know what to look for and use a test to confirm suspicions. I understand this practice is in the top whatever percent of some association they are a part of which may require that they offer to test everything, but that discourages me from wanting to go there.  Bottom line, if you have an unlimited budget and don't mind potentially spending thousands of dollars per animal at the vet each year paying for procedures and tests that other vets may not think are necessary, this is the animal hospital for you. But if you don't have endless funds or want to run test after test after test, there are plenty of other animal hospitals out there that provide quality care at a much more reasonable price point. We take all our dogs to Clark Animal Hospital. They treat them with love and care. They've help us with our 9 year old Rottweiler Jada so much. She has arthritis in her legs and they gave us supplements and medicine for her and she has been more active and happy since. I definitely recommend using them . I had a wonderful experience taking my dog to this hospital. At first, I was dismayed by how much the cost of treatment of our dog Jager . So my son and I went vet hopping and looked for second opinion. Being that Jager doesn't have pet insurance I could not avoid saying that the charges are tremendous till I compared both hospitals. I don't recommend this place; my dog has allergies the bill was $1600 and he didn't get any better; Doctor recommended an allergy test that was very expensive and prescribe  "dog benadryl" I took my dog to a vet in NY that prescribe him the right medicine for his allergies and only cost me $25 for an appointment and $70 for the medicine.Please take your pets to another place. We recently had our first appointment with the staff here. My dog had developed an awful ear infection and was in need to his yearly vet visit for shots and examination. I was very surprised when I called the office and was able to get in appointment the same day. The office was every clean when we arrived, and the staff was very friendly and professional. After a complete examination of my pet, our Vet took the time to review absolutely everything with us. She explained recommended course of treatment for his ear, what was needed for his yearly visit and a complete break down of the cost. She said she would follow up the following week, and I received a call the day she said she would contact me. At first i was not too pleased with the service i was receiving due to some misunderstandings but i decided to give it a chance and brought my pet again to see if any miscommunication would be resolved and any of my questions would be answered. overall im satisfied any inconvenience i had was resolved and now i feel a lot better with bringing my pet here the vet that took care of us was very professional and courteous and for that i thank her. The only one small issue of that i have is with the hours that is open. I do understand the fact that they open now 7 days, but when it says that they are open till 7 pm the last appointment they should be able to take should be at least 6:30 pm. i once called to see if going at 6 pm would be an issue the person mentioned that if i was not there by 5:45 pm that they would probably charge me late night hours for the visit which i have actually showed up without calling, almost to closing and no one ever charged or even said anything about it, thats confusing. I understand that people want to go home and have closing duties to finish the day but the business hours do say till 7 pm and when im not really welcomed an hour and fifteen minutes before closing is a bit of an inconvenience, Besides that i will be bringing back my babies for check ups and annual vaccinesRead Less

We have been bringing our cats to Clark Animal hospital for a few years now, besides the convenient location to our home, we have found that everyone there, Dr's and staff a like go above and beyond to ensure the safety and well being of your pet. When my cat Frankie ran across some unfortunate issues with his paws, Clark Animal Hospital treated us like family and they showed my boy love unlike any other vet I have ever been to. He had to be hospitalized for a few days with them on two occasions and the staff allowed us to visit everyday with no hesitation. Every member of their staff knew my cats name and there is not a single doubt in my mind that while in their care, not only did they provide him with the medical care that he needed, but the TLC that every pet deserves when they are away from their loving home. Clark animal hospital helped me with my bills, explained them to me, worked on getting me the best medical care for the best possible price, and ensured me that they would not stop until my Frankie was 100% back on his paws. I cannot say enough about this team!! The old saying comes to mind, "you get what you pay for" and although perhaps they might be higher priced than other vets, you can't put a price on the overall health and well-being of your pet. I have been to other more economically priced vets and I can tell you first hand, the care I have received for my pets cannot being to compare to what I get from Clark Animal Hospital. Everyone is human and errors occur, misdiagnosis, whatever the case may be - but no one is more willing than Clark Animal hospital to ensure that they 1. make things right by their patients and their owners and 2. ensure that your pet gets strong and back to their usual self sooner than later. This vet is extraordinarily overpriced. For the best example, I once brought my cat in because he was lethargic -- they brought me out an $800.00 bill (this is not an exaggeration).  I kindly suggested that perhaps we give him fluids before breaking the bank, and voila -- fluids worked.  Cat was fine.  Still $200.00, but whatever.  Side note: to stick it to them in this situation, my mom asked if we could also have a quote for putting him to SLEEP, and they actually brought us the bill....to put him to sleep.  They sure called our bluff there.....An otherwise healthy cat......and a bill for putting him down.  Thank god for IV fluids.  My oldest is now 18 years old, and so we take him for checks more often (every 6 mos instead of a year).  The bill for a half year check up can be up to $600.00.  I brought him to Iselin for the exact same check up.  They spent way more time discussing my cat with me, and the bill was $250.00.  All of this being said, two stars because Dr. Joshi is INCREDIBLE, funny, very attentive, and a damn good doctor.  If only the prices weren't so horribly out of their league, I would still be going here.  Sadly, there are other good doctors in the area who aren't going to charge me a million dollars every time I walk in the door. My pet Fritz has been Dr. Joshi's patient since he was 9 weeks old, and thanks to him tand the staff, is now a healthy and happy 14 years old !! There is no vet that I trust other than Dr. Joshi, and no staff in a vets office that is as professional, caring, and loving as the staff at Clark Animal Hospital. The most modern and clean facility in N.J., and by far the most advanced technology as well. And the staff treats you and your pet more like family, than a client. So rare any more. My dog does not feel at all comfortable at any other office, and I have taken him to some emergency facilities locally. He cries and yelps and gets nervous, but never at Clark Animal Hospital. And the girls at the front desk, are my dogs favorites. He literally wants to jump over the counter to say hello to them whenever we walk in. He does not do that anywhere else, as a matter of fact he wants to run back to the car !!! No matter what your needs, grooming, kenneling, or medical, Clark Animal is there for you. So why waste time riding around in circles, when the best is right under your nose and local ?? Not only is Dr. Joshi by far N.J.'s best vet, but has also become a close personal friend of mine. I trust very few business' any more since they come and go so quickly. But this establishment has proven itself time in and time out to me. They have taken nightmares that the emergency clinics have created, and fixed the problem for me. My Dachshund trusts very few people, but trusts Dr. Joshi and the staff. His attitude reflects it, and I know my dog and his personality..One thing as of recent, I no longer go there unless I know for certain that Dr. Joshi is there himself. My dog does not like the assistant, and I am not a big fan either. My loyalty and respect and trust are with Dr. Joshi and no one else. He is priceless and knows blind folded what he is doing and what is needed or wrong with my dog. You can't put a price on experience and professionalism. I wish the man could be my doctor !!! inexperienced and strictly money business.. charged me 1000$ for a misdiagnosis stating my cat had a "foreign body, string" inside her intestines... traveled 6 hours and paid 1300$ for the "do or die" operation to only have them find no string or foreign bodies at all.. nice people at a glance, pocket diggers at best. will never visit again and strongly advise anyone considering them to do your homework if you love your animal. we went to richmond, VA and got the best care iv ever experienced in any clinical or hospital environment. too bad they did exploratory invasive surgery on my cat for no reason. the devil is alive and well in ALL people *** sorry if i hit a nerve. after running around animal hospitals for two days, i now understand why so many other local and even non local animal owners and lovers spoke so poorly in regards to your practice. "that place is like a trap for animals."...."theyll make sure you come back"... i was honest and in a backed into a corner situation, due to the severity of my cats condition i acted hastily. not everyone is honest or fair. shame on me. lesson learned.Read Less

I have been bringing my pup to Dr Joshi for the past three years and have had nothing but positive experiences time after time. I like that they give me a list of recommendations in advance. That way I can ask my questions and choose what I'd like to do during a particular visit. Obviously if a service is urgent I am told. If things can wait they let me know that, too. How is that a bad thing? I trust the staff at Clark with my precious pet because they have -earned- my trust. I especially want to give my compliments to Dr Joshi who obviously loves animals. He is professional, thorough and easy to converse with. He never makes me feel rushed and always answers all my questions clearly, completely and understandably. My dog, Murphy, has only had to come to Clark twice for emergency care, but when he did Dr Joshi was reassuring and professional. We come for regular wellness visits and shots too of course but twice for emergency care. One time we were referred to Garden State Vet and the people there said Dr Joshi is an excellent Vet, and a trusted colleague with excellent credentials. I don't understand why people get angry if they are referred to another facility. It's for your pets health and well being! Haven't you ever been referred to a specialist in your medical care? Doctors do this all the time. Frankly I'd rather a Dr referred me to a specialist than be the patient of someone who wants to pretend to be an omniscient practitioner. Wouldn't you? I am very glad to have Dr Joshi and his entire staff on Team Murphy. I am a fanatic when it comes to his care and Dr Joshi tells me "You are doing everything right! Relax and enjoy him!" Once I was worried that Murphy was overweight and Dr Joshi said no he's a tiny bit over average but it's nothing to worry about. He's very healthy. If Dr Joshi is so greedy, why didn't he try to recommend some costly Prescription Diet food for weight loss? I know everyone has his or her own experiences and opinions, and we're all entitled. I can only tell you in complete honesty that Dr. Joshi and his staff at Clark Animal Hospital have earned my trust with a pet that I love very dearly. Just the fact alone that the doctor responds to negative complaints in such a retaliatory fashion online, should say something about his practice.After using Clark Animal Hospital for many years, we finally got disgusted and left.  I will not go into all the reasons why - suffice it to say many reviewers have covered all bases and all of it rings true to me.  The front staff is inept, they over charge (you have to read their "suggested treatments and invoices with a fine tooth comb in order not to get double or over charged) and have poor attitudes, particularly the main vet in this practice.  To this day, even though I requested the records of my cats, they keep sending me "reminders" via mail.  They don't even have enough sense to update their records in order to save on postage.  I can't imagine how many unnecessary postcards they send yearly to clients who no longer use them.BTW, the straw that broke the camels back for us was a) Dr. Joshi telling us that we shouldn't do our own research on the care of cats.  His entire attitude was one of "I know best and you know nothing".  In the interim, we knew one of our cats was in some kind of pain and he kept insisting it was arthritis setting in due to his age.  Well, when we brought him to the new vet it turned out he had terrible dental issues and had to have 3 teeth pulled, in addition to a serious cleaning.  Once this was done he returned to the cat we knew and loved.  He must have been in incredible pain for a long time, and why nobody suggested his teeth needed attention is beyond me (not, that I would have allowed them to put him under!).  He now has the energy of a cat half his age, even to the point of being able to sail over our younger one when they are at play.Save yourself aggravation and find another place to take your beloved pets.  This is just a money making machine and nobody, genuinely seems to care about them, much as they pretend to.Oh and go ahead Dr. Yoshi.  Rant at me all you care to.  Whatever floats your passive aggressive boat. This is the worst vet I have been to. All they're good for is routine vaccines.I took my Doberman in thursday. He was very lethargic, hadn't eaten in 4 days, temperature of 106.2 which is fatal!! They did blood work (my bill was $500) everything came back negative. They gave us a referral paper for the 24 hour emergency animal hospital knowing he'd probably have to go if he got worse.I took him home and he was the same for 2 more days. Sunday, he declined dramatically. Pooping straight blood, still not eating, temperature 106. We had to take him to the 24 hour emergency animal hospital in Iselin. They had to do blood work all over again because the lady at Clark Animal Hospital forgot to give me the blood results after I specifically asked her to! She handed me a bunch of papers and I had just assumed it was in there. I'm so mad that Clark Animal hospital forgot to give me the blood work results that I spend hundreds of dollars on AND were closed on Sunday! To add to the awful service, it usually takes 2 hours in the vet even for little things like vaccines. They are SLOW. & Dr. joshi, he is so hard to understand, he has a really thick indian accent.They don't seem to know what they are talking about or doing and the office is so small. After reading all the feedback I felt compelled to leave a review of my own.  I've recently picked up a puppy who has visited the Clark Animal Hospital approximately 5 times.  Most of the visits were the typical boosters, and immunity, once was a walk in visit for her diarrhea, and most recently it was for her spaying.  While the fees seem to be a bit more expensive than some of the other facilities that I've compared with, with a slight tendency to push some of their own food, and additional medicines that may not be 100% necessary, the Vet had always run through the cost breakdowns ahead of any billing, explaining any item that I had questions with, allowing me to make the final determination to move forward.  Not once did I ever feel that I, nor my puppy were ever ignored, or disregarded in any manner.  Even after the spaying procedure, I had follow up questions which I was able to have answered over the phone the following day.  I obviously cannot speak for others experience in past years, but thus far I and my puppy have had a very pleasant experience here. I have been taking my pets here for many many years.  The Drs are advocates for the animals, not for your wallets.  They suggest preventitive care because most folks won't properly care for their animals until something goes wrong. Don't adopt/purchase animals unless you can afford to upkeep them.  This includes emergencies, annual shots, teeth cleaning, and preventitive care - basically, you should plan to spend around $500-700 a year on each pet.  So, why is everyone so shocked when they have to pay $350-500 for a teeth cleaning?  What does your dentist charge?I see that most folks that post reviews for vets are unhappy one's.  That's too bad, I would like to see more happy folks post their experiences as well so that people can judge the reviews fairly.  I too have had unhappy experiences all vet I have visited in three different states over the last 30 years(financial shock, bringing the animal in with one thing and leaving with another, too much preventitive medication, etc.), But if my animals could speak for themselves, and they had money, they would have agreed with everything the Dr's provided.  I give this vet five stars for the kind and knowledgable Doctors (Joshi especially).  I am adding some suggestions on improvement: 1)  the facility needs to be bigger and upgraded and 2) the prices are on the higher end of the spectrum, however - the care and knowledgeable staff are worth it and 3) their billing system tends to bundle charges by procedure code and the receptionists are very busy and don't always review the receipts for possible dupes.All in all this is the best vet in NJ.
