My name is John Pedersen and I run a kitten rescue/foster home out of my House in Old Bridge, NJ. I can not say enough about the friendly proffesional staff at SayreBrook Hospital. Dr. Marcy Messina treated a 3 week old kitten we rescued for an upper respiratory infection and ringworm. I felt that we were going to lose her but Dr. Messina made me feel at ease and comfortable that Mushy, our kitten, was in very good hands and is now doing so much better. The service was fast, thorough and accurate and the techs and reception girls, they're the best despite what others have said. This is the place you need to take your pet too for whatever they need. I can't thank them enough. Read Less

I was going to give more star ratings, but the receptionist SAMANTHA turned everything from great service to horrible service. Dr. Birmingham was amazing, she explained everything to us about our new kitten. We were first timers at this place. She explained everything that was wrong with our baby, and explained all the medications and how it works for kittens. Our nurse we had was extremely nice and gentle as well with our kitten. She also explained step by step of how to give our baby his meds. When it came time to pay, we got rung up by SAMANTHA, by far the RUDEST person I have ever delt with. Our total bill came out to around 240$, Than as she’s ringing us up she tells us 296$! I looked at her like that’s not what we were told, and that’s NOT what was on our bill before paying. She was extremely nasty to us and gave us a very disgusting attitude. She said that the visit was 61$ and they had it on for 51$. I said You need to honor that since that’s what we were told originally. She got very rude back and stormed into one of the back rooms. They honored that, but than she added another price to something that the dr nor the nurse had said anything about and we ended up paying more money for that. Extremely dissatisfied with this place. It sucks because we live so close, but I would Rather drive further distance so I know Myself and my kitten are being treated with respect. If you don’t like your job simply leave, don’t give customers attitudes all day long and expect them to come back. SAMANTHA is the worst !!!! HEARTLESS OFFICE STAFF I took my dog to Sayrebrook for 14 years since I got him as a pup. I even started taking my younger dog there as well. Unfortunately I was forced to stop going to Sayrebrook due to the HORRIBLE experience I had in regards to euthanizing my 14 yr old dog. My dog had been suffering for months and we made the extremely difficult decision to put him down and end his suffering as he could hardly walk/breathe toward the end. Dr. Toolen was amazing and walking us through this decision and even cried with me just ahead of the procedure I cannot say enough about how thoughtful and caring she was as she took care of my dog for many years. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the office staff here which is what leads me to give this establishment 1 star even after all the years I frequented this animal hospital. I showed up for the appointment to euthanize my dog as any pet owner would- completely heartbroken at what was about to happen. I went into the room to spend the last moments I could with my dog and I opted to be present during the procedure. As I waited and said my goodbyes, one of the office staff members came into the room and rudely demanded I give her my credit card. My husband asked her if we could please wait until after the procedure so I could spend some time with my dog and she insisted that the procedure could not be done until I paid in full (a customer of 14 YEARS!). So I went ahead and paid for the procedure as well as the Christmas ornament paw print of my dog to keep as a memory. The procedure happened - the most difficult thing I had to do and as advised I followed up the next day about my paw print keepsake only to be told my the rude office staff that "it wasn't ready" and to call back the next day. I call back again the next day as advised and was told it still wasn't ready. Already annoyed 5 days later I was finally able to speak to a manager who told me that they "accidentally FORGOT" to take the paw print and that my dog had been cremated the day after the euthanization. 1. I paid for a paw print that I didn't get - I now do not have the keepsake of my dog that I truly wanted 2. I was lied to MULTIPLE times about what really happened to the paw print and forced to wait 5 days after my dog was cremated to find out what really happened 3. I was rudely forced to pay for the procedure and the paw print ahead of time when I should've been allowed to just spend some time with my dog and settled the bill after the procedure 4. Adding insult to injury, I got a vaccine reminder for the dog that was euthanized in the mail weeks after he passed. I never got refunded for the paw print and while the office manager was very apologetic - I would never return here because of how I was treated during one of the most difficult times of my life. It's a true shame that the great work that the techs and vets (like Dr. Toolen) do everyday is ruined by insensitivity and rudeness of some of the office staff (not all). This incident occurred in 2016 and to this day, I cannot talk about the experience I had without getting upset about how I was treated. I truly hope that since then they were able to get rid of the rude and incompetent staff that I encountered. Read Less

Extremely disappointed and upset with Sayrebook Animal Hospital. A week and a half ago made a same day appointment for our cat, as our primary vet clinic was closed and he had what was becoming a severe eye infection. The appointment was with the owner, Dr. Chiosi. We informed Dr. Chiosi about our cat, who we adopted last summer after he had spent the last few months to year as a stray. Our cat had been seen 3 times (initial check ups and follow ups) with our primary vet, of course having the appropriate blood work and checks. Most recently he was seen in November as a follow up. Dr. Chiosi insisted we do blood work testing for FIV, which had been done. We felt it unnecessary but as he is the professional, we agreed with his recommendation. Dr. Chiosi also insisted our cat had ear mites, once again a check that had been performed numerous times prior and turned up negative. He attempted to show us but we were unable to spot any. Once again, we went along with his professional thoughts and had him treated. Dr. Chiosi then made the clear statement that the cat should have a dental exam (we knew this and had it planned with our primary vet), however Dr. Chiosi insisted that one of his Doctors, “Dr. Bill”, offered FREE dental consultations. We jumped on the opportunity as the doctor made it a point to state that Dr. Bill had a passion for dental work. We decided to book both of our cats a simultaneous appointment. The consult went great. We couldn’t have been happier with the appointment and Dr. Bill, until as we were prepping to leave, we asked to make sure there was no charge. We were anticipating a new patient fee as our other cat had not been there before, but of course no fee for the consults. Unfortunately that was not the case, and we were charged $50 for each cat. I paid, although my judgement was to refuse and speak to a manager in the morning. I actually returned not 10 minutes later and apparently Dr. Bill had left. The young woman working the desk, while keeping a calm demeanor was extremely displeased that I returned. She insisted that Dr. Chiosi only works Monday, Friday and Saturdays. We saw him on a Sunday. I fully intent to speak to not only the office manager but Dr. Bill and Dr. Chiosi. I demand to know why they are stating they offer free dental consults. I will be looking to escalate this further. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE. "WE'RE DONE HERE" after my pet was put down...... I had to bring my kitty here, because she got sick Sat night and no other animal hospital was open on Sunday. Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for her and she had to be put down. If my kids were not with me i would have punched the vet in his fat face. After he put my cat down he listened to her heart, turned to his assistant and said, "we are done here". As he walked out of the room he said I'm sorry. He said it to just say it. His sorry was not believable at all. I understand that this is his job and he must go through this everyday, but he has a heart of ice. The young male assistant and female assistant were extremely nice and concerning about our feelings and i honestly believe they actually care about animals and feelings. If those 2 ran the hospital and were vets i would totally recommend this place. I hope they are considering becoming one. The vet needs to retire, because he is not a people person or a animal person. Ive heard of Ice Queen before, now I have met the Ice King. Read Less

This complaint is in regards to Dr Joseph R Chiosi who happened to run the practice of Sayrebrook Veterinary Hospital PA I took my rabbit to the vet Dr Joseph R Chiosi at the Sayrebrook veterinary hospital for check up..she had mites. His assistant a young fellow was taken notes before doctor came in i corrected him that misspell the word mites. That should of been a first clue for me that his staff and him ***** well uneducated. When the doctor started checking my bunny he couldn't find the mites till i pointed out to him he went to grab a book to see what kinda mites it is. When i asked him how she could possibly get it he had no answer gave me the book and left the room. Finally according to the book vet injected a shot to my rabbit and said that it will kill all the mites and in less than two hours my rabbit died. He either injected the large amount of medicine or injected the wrong one. When i tried to confirm him he said that he will check and call me back the next day and never did and so his finance assistant Jill. I kindly asked for my money back because my rabbit did not get the correct treatment and died shortly after,he refused it and blamed me for bringing a sick bunny which is not true she was eating well and pretty active before the hospital visit she did have some minor mites problem but it wasn't anything that she can die from . My llionhead rabbit is more than a family to me i love her dearly she didn't have to die if i didn't take her to the hospital she would of still be alive. It just bugles my mind that vets like him still work in the hospital and own a license. Read Less

I have been bringing my 2 rabbits here for 4 years and couldn't be more pleased with the service and treatment we get every time we walk in the door. From the girls at the desk to the techs who do a wonderful job trimming nails every few weeks. Dr. Birmingham is a superstar in my eyes!!! She saved my little guys life. I didn't realize the severity of his sickness until I got home and googled it. She was very certain that we caught it in time and the treatment would work. She was right! Read Less

I've been a client of Sayrebrook Veterinary Hospital for over 15 years. The entire staff has been more than professional, skilled, empathetic, and sympathetic to my and my dogs' needs. All the Veterinarians are knowledgeable and are experts in their field, and no egos are ever involved. They do not hesitate to find out answers to questions they do not know. They have recently implemented a Fear Free environment which is so very important to all animals and their owners. Read Less

I brought my bunny here for a check up then for her spay. Dr. Chiosi was the best! A wonderful and experienced doctor. He made sure that I was getting the spay done for the right reasons and that I was an informed bunny owner. This tells me that he truly does care about animals and his patients. My bunny's surgery went smoothly with no issues. The staff made sure all of my concerns were addressed and that I was informed on aftercare. We have been bringing our dogs here ever since we brought them home. Our dogs LOVE going there. Each time we bring them there, they're hoping to go to boarding, but they don't mind going into one of the rooms to see the vets. Recently, one of our dogs became extremely ill overnight. We brought him in to see Dr. Toolen that morning. She took very good care of him, explained everything in detail to us and answered all of our questions. Our dog wound up staying in medical boarding for 2 nights, and every morning, I received a phone call with an update on how he was doing. Thank you everyone at Sayrebrook for taking care of and caring about both of our furbabies.

Read Less
