Dr. Bruno is very nice and informative and helped us our a lot, but the Staff is terrible!!!! Receptionists are terrible, we left our dog for grooming and check up and they called us she was done and when I came to pick her up, they made me wait for 1.5h. So we called the doctor and he told us no one even told him I was there waiting.My dog is under prescription medication and she has to take it daily and we called in that we want to pick up a refill for her medication and they were giving us a hard time, than she said she is going to call us back but never did, so tomorrow my dog is out of medication and they didn't even send the files and treatment of my dog to the vet we want to transfer to. Now I have to run after that.Sooo... do I want to stay with a real good doctor but have to deal with this every time or do I go to a solid doctor with very good staff? Maybe hospitals are just meant for emergencies. Read Less

We switched over to this place after paying extreme bills at another vet in town for many many years. I love them and then again, sigh. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Why do I always wait at least 20 minutes to be seen? If you're going to make me wait, then just tell me to be here later. It's super frustrating. And it happens Every. Single. Time. Have been bringing my senior citizen Maine Coon here for several years. Have gotten good care from Dr. Perez, Dr. Bruno and another vet who I believe has since retired. The staff have been friendly. Exam rooms were clean. All in all, on the upper end of what I would expect from an animal hospital. Will go back and would recommend. Read Less

This place, clearly started by satan incarnate to ruin people lives, killed my dog by convincing me she needed surgery and manipulating my guilt, after which the pet surgeon said "if it was my dog i wouldn't have done it, it was the wrong call" because clearly the surgeon there has a soul, while the vet clearly trained under Josef Mengala.  DO NOT LET THEM KILL YOUR BELOVED PET!!!! Plus the front staff is awful and they make you wait over 3 hours for a scheduled appointment all the time. I hope they go bankrupt. Highly recommend this Veterinary Hospital. The doctors are wonderful, with a genuine level of concern, and of course professionalism. There was an appointment that was cancelled on me - I just assumed there was an emergency - those happen - but Dr Bruno personally called me to apologize and assured me that he would do everything in his power to be on time (which they are) and professional. The staff at WOAH is nothing short of outstanding! While most people can demonstrate sympathy very few can exhibit empathy - which Dr. Perez, Dr. Boen, Dr. Zamora, Barb & Christa have done on multiple occasions. Our dogs have been clients of WOAH for more than 10 years and I can't say that at any time our dogs have not been treated with utmost love, care, respect, and compassion. While pets can fulfill certain needs for people, it's the one dog or cat, or whomever that becomes your soulmate. What a surprise! The place is called "Animal Hospital", but is not. I brought my dying hamster, but they could't help. They're only taking care of dogs and cats. The hours of operations are 8AM-7PM. I was there at 8:05AM and was called "early bird". WOW! But the best part of it is - the doctors arrive at 10AM, I was informed. All I will say, is please trust your gut regardless of what doctor you see at any animal hospital. Sometimes doctors have a bad day and draw poor conclusions. I brought my dog there for a checkup for the first time in April 2016. We just moved to the area from NYC. I found the vet, Dr. Boen, to be knowledgeable, truly kind, and patient with my dog. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed. They charged me for medicine they didn't give me (an error I caught and was able to correct the same day,  by driving back to pick it up). Not a big deal. However, I am in the process of adopting a child and as part of the home study, I need to show the adoption agency documentation from the vet, verifying that my dog is up to date on all vaccines. Two phone calls and an email and all I can get is a piece of paper that says when various vaccines are due, which is not what I've asked for. Or, if you can't create a new document, how about printing that one out and then hand writing one sentence clarifying he's up-to-date with everything? Why is that impossible? The person who just answered the phone actually argued with me and talked over me throughout the phone call. I have been crystal-clear about what I need and they just can't get it together to print a piece of paper, write one sentence, and put it in the mail to me? Why argue with me on the phone, when I've said this is what I need and this is why I need it? I feel like crying I am so frustrated. If the office staff can't tolerate very simple requests, I can't trust them to take care of my dog. My advice: hire staff with some problem-solving skills and a wee bit of frustration tolerance. These vets have taken care of my pets for 20 years. They are compassionate, patient, and reasonably priced. Even after I moved out of the area I still come back here because I have yet to find a practice that's as good. I've gone through some tough illnesses with my pets and I always felt that they served the best interest of my pets without subjecting them to unnecessary test or procedures. I highly recommend them. Brought in our beagle, Ally, today to get a second opinion.She had been bleeding from open wounds in the wrist area for several weeks. The other vet we were dealing with was treating her for an infection. Dr. Donald Bruno found out that her paw area had bone cancer and also found tumors in her lungs. He spent an hour consoling us. He hugged us many times and had tears in his eyes, when we made the decision to put Ally down and relieve her suffering. He is a one of a kind veterinarian who showed us so much compassion. I've been taking my pets here for over 15 years and have to say that I've never met a more compassionate group of veterinarians and staff anywhere. The front office is always accommodating and the 3 vets I typically deal with are wonderful. Dr.Perez has performed numerous surgeries on my dogs, including the removal of an enormous abdominal tumor that we thought was inoperable. Dr Boen is lovely, soft spoken and very compassionate. And whenever we visit with Dr Bruno, it's like going back to school - he spends so much time explaining everything - that I feel like I went to vet school for the day. Compared to what my friends dealt with at their previous vets - they've all switched to West Orange A H - these folks are extremely honest, price everything fairly and most importantly treat me like a friend and my pets as their own. I have nothing but problems with my dog since she performed the spaying surgery. my dog was never right after that prior to me bringing her there she was a sweet loving dog, unfortunatley i had to have her put down recently at the hands of dr perez. the staff at this establishment is disgusting as well they are ignorant and untrained none of them have any business dealing with the public. i would never trust any of my animals in their care. i truly hope that establishment is investigated and then put out if business they are truly the definition of INHUMANE!!!!!!! I have taken my animals to WOAH since 2003 and I can't say enough good things about them. I started with 2 cats, who actually lived to the age of 16 and who died within 6 months of each other. I had never owned my own pet before and wasn't quite sure what to do when the first cat got sick, but they were very compassionate and helped me through a difficult time. Some time later I got another cat who experienced kidney failure at a relatively young age, and was much better prepared, thanks to them, when it was time to say good-bye. Now they see my dog and yet another cat. When they treat an animal they provide options but they don't upsell, or if they do, they do it well because I never feel any pressure. A particular shout-out to Dr. Boen, who is always my vet of choice, although any of the doctors there are wonderful. The front desk staff has been there for a long time, which is telling in a good way, and it is easy to establish a rapport with them. This is one of the best and most professional animal hospitals that I have had the pleasure of doing business with!! They have always been helpful and courteous, and given the most consideration to any problem (small or large) that may arise. The staff is incredibly pleasant, knowledgeable, and respectful of both me and my "children".. and I always know that we are in good hands! I've even brought rescues to them, which needed critical care- and they have gone above and beyond to help out. I have four cats, and have used their services many times, and will continue to do so (even though it is about 45 minutes +traffic) because IT'S WORTH MY TIME to get the care and treatment that they offer.. well done!!Signed,Jupiter - my eldest "child" who was taken in as an emergency off hours, when she had an episode! I do rescue, have many veterinarian accounts and various animal hospitals throughout NJ and have never had any problems ... until West Orange Animal Hospital.All about the money and will lie on medical reports to save their own butts after they botch up your service and your bill. They are crooks and liars and care more about getting every dime from your wallet they can rather than what's doing best for the animals.I had a cat in there for euthanization, tests were performed that I did not want and the girl apologized for running them. Despite this, a woman w/nasty attitude comes barging in during the euthanization, puts a stop to it, causing major stress to me and the cat and starts asking for more money. I spoke to the Doctor who agreed to resolve the bill and finally continued the euthanization.They tried to trouble shoot, test, treat, collect money for a cat that was in the final stages of HIV. They have done this to me before w/a dog I brought in there and the bill came to over $500 for which I paid in full as I always do.On the way out, I paid and had a $261 balance. They send me a bill w/balance of $261. Then next letter I get is from their attorney stating I owe over $400. I call Dr. Perez and she says I owe $380 because I left w/out paying. ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE! Now, after all of the trauma I went through and my poor cat went through with the botched euthanization, I have to deal w/them in court.The receptionist who I tried to work this out with was rude and unprofessional. We've been very fortunate to have found this animal hospital relatively close to our home in Newark. On many occasions, we have had dealings with WOAH for routine things like boarding, shots, check-ups and the like. But this past weekend our good old boy Rudy got into a tuff with another dog, and Rudy's tongue was shredded. From looking at the damage, we were convinced that Rudy, in his declining years, would never be able to regain function of his tongue. But in just a matter of a day...with practical antibiotic treatment and careful blood work to ensure that our old buddy would be able to withstand the anesthesia, the brilliant Dr. Perez performed surgery on our dog's tongue. It is difficult to imagine, but this skilled doctor was able to work with what was left of his tongue and put it back together, and it looks beautiful! Just one day after the surgery, our old buddy is in excellent spirits. His tongue is being put to the test in the feeding process and he still has to take it slow. But he looks and acts like nothing has happened! Well, he's temporarily a little stingy with the kisses, but who could blame him? I can't account for the negative review I've seen at this site, but please PLEASE don't let that one comment steer you away from one of the best animal hospitals that we've ever encountered. All the staff was so concerned when they saw our dog, called us with frequent updates and explanations to keep us advised and informed, and displayed levels of care and compassion that you can only hope for! I wish I could remember everyone's names who helped out in this situation, but for sure Dr. Perez is a miracle worker, and Barbara...I could tell that your heart broke when you saw our injured dog, and that you would do everything in your power to make sure that he came through this awful situation as close-to-perfect as he's ever been. The doctor's and staff at West Orange Animal Hospital are the best around. They provide prompt, caring service at an affordable price. The hospital may not look up to date, but it is well kept, clean and has state of the art equipment with very knowledgable doctors and staff. Unfortunately we cannot provide 0 starsHaving pets for all but 2 years of my adult life, I have never ever seen such a terrible operation.The level of incompetency galls me.You enter to a poorly lit, dirty waiting area, with no one attending the countersI have been to this office 4 times the 18 months picking up prescriptions, taking the dog in, etc. and it is the same each time.I am not going to get into the nitty gritty.Observations:techs too busy with cell phonesassistance phone manner is inconsistent to appallingpet history seems irrelevant to vetexamination room was grossfollow up was beyond terribleOne outstanding thing I MUST point out.My pet needed medications Rx renewed.They were insistent on redoing bloodwork that was less than 12 months old before renewing the Rx.At the time I was incapacitated, and having the Rx run out would also cripple her.The lack of compassion towards my pet by not even dealing with a short term Rx until such time as I was able to bring her in was dismaying.The lack of care once she was taken in was shocking.After her exam and bloodwork, they didnt call in the Rx as requested.The excuse "we could not locate the number you provided"When I asked why wasnt I called to get the number again? "we tried but your voicemail was full"When asked why didnt you try again a little later?"I am not sure. But I will make sure the vet calls in the Rx after I finish with you"2 days later I get a call from the pet pharmacy, saying the Rx was just called in for less than what was ordered (mind you this was originally ordered almost 5 weeks ago).I called the Vets office and requested it changed to 90 tabs as ordered and originally stated to the Vets at the time of the visit.Back when the  original Rx was requested soooo long ago.This issue was not going to be revisited in 60 days.Nor would we have the additional expense of ordering 30 tabs at a higher rate, plus additional shipping for each 30 tab container each 60 days.I was requested to provide the phone number again and told the vet would take car of it that day.This was over a week ago again.No Rx delivered.Call the pharmacy again.No change made to Rx, no contact in weeks from Vet.Call vet AGAIN, furious, agitated, irate, wondering why this has not YET been called in.I was told "we misplaced the number"When asked why didnt I wasn't called to request the phone number again? "I am not sure"This is the type of consideration and treatment you can expect, a pattern of neglect, and lack of consideration, abuse by proxy in my opinion.Now that we are settled in our home, I will locate a vets office of quality, locally.
