I LOVE WHIPPANY VET WITH MY HEART AND KITTEN SOUL.Oh, that's too short, sorry. They are the most thorough and caring vets out there. They check blood, urine, poo, teeth (fortunately they don't remove that last one for analysis) - other vets don't do any of that. They walk your dog, express anal glands for fun (I'm assuming), do dental work with kitty anesthesia, the works. Every time I come in, every staff member greets my cat with a smile and a warm welcome. Sometimes I even get one too!I think it says loads that when I call Whippany Vet, they say "pet's name?" to look up records. By comparison, my local vet up here asked for my name first. Whippany costs more but they give you so much more and make sure your pet is healthy and happy for a long life.Whippany Vet Puts Pets First. I don't care if they steal that slogan. I absolutely love this place and would rather drive my wailing, stress-pooping kitty another 10 minutes in each direction to get the care she deserves instead of keeping her local and saving a few pennies. We had a 1 1/2 yr old lab who scratched himself constantly. His vet at the time declared he had mange and I had to keep bathing him every week  w/ a toxic, possible cancer-causing solution. Dr. Smith was covering for this vet one Sat. and when my husband asked her her opinion on this treatment she thought the dog might have a thyroid condition. Blood work confirmed she was right. No more dips, no scratching, full coat of beautiful fur returned! All because of a smart dr. and a little blue pill.  Needless to say,  Dr. Smith has now been our vet for23 years, through out the lives of several dogs. Read Less

My fiancee and I just switched to Whippany Veterinary Hospital about a month or two ago, and are so pleased we did! Dr. Loucks is WONDERFUL! The office even has a little electronic light to signal patients in the waiting area that there is a pet departing the world in the back and to try to stay quiet out of respect. What a classy touch. Our boys love everyone who works there, and get so excited to see them each time we visit. Read Less

When my pup, Wishbone, was diagnosed with pancreatitis, Whippany was the first place to be recommended for his treatment. From the point at which we were greeted by their loving front desk, to answering my calls the next morning a half hour before opening, to weeks after when they still voluntarily asked how Wishbone was doing, this staff showed nothing but unending love, compassion, and professionalism. Dr. Loucks and Smith have cared for our pets since we first adopted them. Unbeknownst to us, one of our cats came to us with FeL. The doctors diagnosed her and compassionately helped us care for her over the next year to the end. We moved since we first started going to this animal hospital, and it would make sense for us to switch vets to one that is closer, but after the care that they have given our pets, I just make the extra drive to keep going there. They are good with both animals and humans, so I recommend them without hesitation.Read Less

worst vet ever. I brought my dog there because she wasn't the same dog and didn't look herself in a way that I knew something was very wrong. Her belly was full all the time, she couldn't go up one step to my front door, i couldn't lift her without her crying. I was told, she just needed her teeth cleaned because she had an infection and that's what is making her uncomfortable. They sent me home with meds and I paid a large vet bill. Brought her in for that so called "needed teeth cleaning" and paid a very, very large bill.  My dog was still the same 3 months later so I brought her in again. They drew blood and said everything was negative, took x rays, and without looking at her chart  did tell me she needed her teeth cleaned. I responded, she just had them cleaned less than 3 months ago and I'm bringing her back because her symptoms are still the same. I was told, she needs them cleaned again.  Again, I paid a large bill for that visit. Took her back again since she was getting worse and was given $50 medication for diarrhea which she never even had. During the same time, brought my beautiful Himalayan cat in because when I lifted her she felt lighter. She always weighed 9 lbs. I was told she was healthy but needed her teeth cleaned and she probably cant eat. Paid my bill again. Teeth were cleaned and I paid my very large bill for that. A month later she had lost more weight, so I just started lookig for a food she might like. Still losing weight, brought her in again, Blood was drawn, was told nothing is wrong but then again, told she needed her teeth cleaned and the weight is because she just has a small frame (which I had no idea how that had to do with her all of a sudden losing weight all). Responding with regards to her teeth that she just had them cleaned a month prior.  I was told she was fine. Another large vet bill!! Second 3 lb dog. Brought her in for vaccines, was told she needed her teeth cleaned and had a little diarrhea. She never had diarrhea when I brought her in and when I heard, she needed her teeth cleaned, I was a bit angry and fed up. Paid yet another bill. I called a few days later annoyed and spoke to Dr Loucks who told me, even if she doesn't have diarrhea. It's good for her to take the anti-diarrheal meds for her digestion. Hmmmm. guess I couldn't return that $52 of not needed medication. Was also told on that prior visit I should buy anti anxiety chew vitamins and because she has hip dysplasia, I should buy chews for that too. Each of those pkgs were $30 each but because they are educated I trusted them. What a joke!!These are very money hungry vets looking to make their buck on apparently, teeth cleaning!!!!my 3rd dog who is 2.5 lbs, I brought in for his yearly check up the same time as the 2nd dog and you guessed it...He needs his teeth cleaned!!! Dummy me, brought him in the day I brought in the other one though!! Another large cleaning billThe worst thing was, when I picked them up, i opened their mouths and to my surprise, both of my tiny dogs had all of their teeth besides their canines removed without them notifying me before they were done!!!Now, here is the outcome.2 months after my young cat last saw them,  I couldn't find her one day and was screaming her name searching everywhere. She was found lifeless with her eyes wide open and not closing at all, a faint heart beat and breathing her almost last breath. She must have gone into my closet to die there. Rushed her to the Emergency vet hopsital where upon arrival, they thought had already passed away. When they brought her back and they came out to tell me that she is still alive but barely. Hysterically, I told them to do everything they can. Her organs were shutting down and was in adrenal failure. Her blood pressure was at, she hardly had any pressure. All tests came back in the lowest range. Her weight...2 lbs now!!!!! The EXCELLENT veterinarian at he hospital saved her after my $6,000 bill which both her pain and my huge bill could've been prevented if she was diagnosed and treated properly. I now have my beautiful healthy and now weighing10 lbs, 4 yr old cat back!! My first dog, I then decided to take to the same Vet at the Emergency hospital where she went through many tests and was diagnosed with Cushings disease. She is now on maintenance medication and is doing so much better. Poor baby had to suffer for a full year after taking her to Whippany and was told nothing was wrong but needed a teeth cleaning. Many may think they're great vets but, I have had pets my entire life ( mostly, 3 at a time) and have always been happy with my vet but he had retired so went to Whippany and my experience with both Dr Smith and Dr Loucks has been horrible, resulting in a waste of my hard earned money but worse, the suffering my pets were put through.  I wouldn't recommend them at all, Unless, you want your pets teeth cleaned....even if they don't need them cleaned Read Less

I have been taking my Pomeranian to Whippany Vet ever since I got him at 8 weeks old last spring. Both doctors and all of the staff members have been terrific. They are very knowledgeable; they patiently and thoroughly answer all of my questions and make suggestions regarding care and training; and they spend ample time with us. My little boy especially loves Dr. Loucks, who usually treats him. He likes her so much that he's actually happy when we go to the vet, even though he has gotten a lot of shots/vaccinations there. Recently, when my Pom reached 6 months old, he was neutered and Dr. Loucks performed the procedure. I was very worried about him going under the knife (any mother would be), and I hated the phrase "canine castration" on the form (Ewww!), but everything went smoothly. The surgery tech was wonderful and very caring and I brought my baby home that same day. Not with the usual lamp shade around his neck, but with the more comfortable inflatable collar, instead. My Pom healed very well and he's back to being his normally playful, bouncy self again. It's all good. Read Less

Until this time I've been unable to write about this. In late May of 2010 I had both of my 10-yr old cats examined there. They were never sick a day in their lives and I was told after their exams that they were in excellent health but needed one or two teeth removed. The next week, on June 2, I dropped Sunshyne and Halford off early in the morning. I received a call early afternoon that Sunny was done and that Hal was next. I received a call at 7:00 p.m. that Hal was dead -- dead from what I knew then and know now after conferring with two other vets was from too much anasthesia -- I was in such shock that I paid them and they gladly accepted my $700+ and I left with Sunny and Hal in a box of ice. They are shameless, greedy phonies. I have yet to deal with them about this, but I will do so now that I can think about it clearly. Read Less
