Blue Cross Animal Clinic

Albuquerque, New Mexico
General Info
Blue Cross Animal Clinic in Albuquerque assists New Mexico pet owners to synchronize health plans with behavior needs and exam schedules when managing multiple pets that have varied habits and care routines. Initial consultations typically commence with an examination of each pet's historical data alongside their behavioral patterns and recent alterations to determine their domestic roles. Examinations become unique assessments which evaluate posture combined with ear and eye clarity alongside skin health while also checking hydration and gait as well as temperament around humans and other animals. The presence of mild coughing and reduced appetite in pets is examined contextually since multi-pet environments can obscure or amplify health indicators. Blue Cross Animal Clinic delivers customized wellness planning alongside diagnostic services and surgical consultation while also offering weight tracking dental checks and preventive scheduling. Veterinary care plans adjust to accommodate both owner schedules and pet characteristics by either spacing out appointments or combining procedures to optimize time and energy use. The implementation of sustainable routines becomes feasible for households dealing with new adoptions age-related deceleration or travel schedules. Clinic staff members guide families through available options by presenting information in a way that keeps decision-making straightforward yet avoids overwhelming them. Throughout every stage owners have the opportunity to inquire while each appointment and subsequent follow-up includes built-in communication channels. Blue Cross Animal Clinic assists families throughout Albuquerque and nearby New Mexico areas to establish veterinary routines that align with their home dynamics which ensures every pet gains a voice and each visit achieves its purpose.

This place meets and exceeds everything I could want in a vet. Sadly, I can attest to that. I happened to be with my best friend (whose stellar, magnificent 6 year old pup was a patient of Dr. Terry Wheeler's) at the grocery store when she received a call from her. She told her things were much worse than originally thought and would she like to bring her pup in to euthanize her. My dear friend almost fainted, since she had already unnecessarily had to put down her beloved family member down three days earlier...after taking her to the specialty vet hospital. I, myself, couldn't even catch my breath. It was the most insensitive, uncaring way to handle the situation I've ever witnessed. 10 days prior, Dr. Wheeler had diagnosed this pup with a severe liver infection and sent her home, prescribing antibiotics, thyroid medication for hypothyroidism, and milk thistle...she told my friend to bring her back in a month for a follow up. A month??? I believe this beautiful creature would still be alive and could have overcome her condition if Dr. Wheeler had monitored her carefully, put her on a special non-copper diet, held off on the antibiotics which strain the liver, added SAM-e, and more milk thistle, until she knew what the cause of the liver trouble was. Of course, there is always room for human error, but there is no excuse for the way this heartbreaking situation was mishandled by Dr. Wheeler and resulted in the unnecessary death of my friend's pet. All the veterinarians at this clinic are kind, compassionate, and highly qualified to manage very complex health situations. Over the years, they have done a wonderful job in giving us alternate solutions for health problems with our aging dogs and cats that allowed us to afford to continue to care for them when, in at least one situation, we had been told by another vet that our animal would need thousands of $$$ worth of diagnostic work done before an accurate evaluation could be made of a neurological condition. Because of thm, we were able to keep our beloved dog healthy and happy for another two and a half years when we thought we were going to have to have her put to sleep.Read Less

Dr. Wheeler has seen my 14 year old Papillon, numerous times and I've got to say, not only is she brilliant as far as her quick assessment, but when the test results come in, she's always right. I love her bedside manner. She is compassionate and she is gentle with my dog, aware of his peculiarities, ie. very aggressive with other dogs, I can't figure out why, but he's been that way since he was 8 weeks old. She allows me easy access in and out, so as not to cause a huge commotion. The clinic is undergoing a renovation right now and despite the sound of a hammer or drill, they conduct business as usual. Clean. On time. Not even a hiccup. I recommend Dr. Wheeler to everyone. I feel my dogs are both in good hands whenever we are in a crisis, or regular needs. I'm very thankful to be able to have found such a good Veterinarian, that puts me at ease, when I'm the most concerned about the health of my furry family.Read Less

For months my cat's cancer was not diagnosed. When we finally went to a specialist in November, we saw the xray Blue Cross had taken in July for the first time. My husband immediately questioned what the mass on her leg was. The specialist had an immediate diagnosis of cancer. Because of late diagnosis she survived only a short time following her leg amputation. Even months before the July xray Blue Cross had treated her leg issue incorrectly. Read Less
