Bolton Animal Hospital

I am visiting from out of town with my dog and realized that I forgot one of his medicines that he desperately needs. I called this vet to ask them if they would please refill his prescription if my vet would call them to let them know which meds it is and etc. They informed me that the only way they would is if I set up an appointment for an examination. I am very disappointed. Why do they need to examine him? He sees my vet regularly they have all of his medical information. Where is the empathy? When I go to a different pharmacist to get a refill on my prescription, they don't tell me that I have to another doctor in order to get my prescription refilled. I will just have to find another vets office that is less interested in making money and more interested in helping my pet with his heart condition. Read Less

Dr. Keppers saved my dog's life after an accident at home left him with a 10 inch laceration above his thigh. After a week of daily emergency visits, dealing with three emergency vets and wiping up blood around the clock, I called Bolton Hospital. I knew in my gut that Keppers was the one to take care of him. She was the only one who had an honest reaction to the situation and she also listened to what I wanted. Sisko was boarded for 8 weeks while he went through several rounds of stitches and it broke my heart every day. Keppers kept very close monitor and called me with updates routinely and answered all my questions and never made me feel bad about the accident. She never gave up on him and I'm forever grateful. I live on the west side and make the drive across town to the Bolton animal Hospital because we love their service. Dr Keppers takes her time with the animals and she is always mindful of our pocket book by not ordering unnecessary tests - which we really appreciate. We have also seen Dr Bolton as well. In regards to boarding- This is the perfect place for ageing pets. The staff are amazing and my 18 year old pup seemed relaxed and slid back into home life easily after boarding. I have to drive a little distance to get there and I even pass two large boarding facilities before arriving at Bolton, but its well worth the commute for the level of trust and protection they provide. Love this clinic. These vets are so caring and knowledgeable. They saved my little chihuahua's life on multiple occasions - she has a condition that can be difficult to manage - and I'm forever grateful. I have never had a bad incident at Bolton. The girls at the front desk are always nice. I have had positive experiences with Dr. Bolton, Dr. Horn and Dr. Kepper. I have been a loyal customer since I moved here to Albuquerque in 2011. Their prices are reasonable and their wellness plans helps me to budget my vet care expenses. Just saw a very negative review which specifically named Dr. Jen Keppers. I nned to say that she is the reason I switched over to Bolton. I have found her to be exceptionally gentle and kind, with real tenderness towards the two elderly cats I've brought in. She also listens well, and answers my questions with care. Front desk people are also very good, and prices here are reasonable. We all have different experiences with places, but I couldn't bear to let that extremely negative experience from someone color the whole picture about Bolton or, specifically, about Jen Keppers. My cat, Libra, has been peeing outside of his litter box so I decided to take him in for a check up. I was able to get a same day appointment here and I appreciated that. The doctor saw us right at 3pm which I appreciated. I don't like having to wait with my cat locked in his carrier too long so I liked that they were prompt. The doctor was very kind and excellent with my cat. He really liked her. I felt like the price was fair for the services. I'd recommend Bolton to anyone looking for a clinic to take their pets. My one star rating is because the ladies that were at the front desk were always very pleasent. However, Bolton is a very poorly run vet clinic. Jen Keppers, one of the veterinarians, is not a nice lady. Any time I had an incident with my dogs she was very rude and was either very irritated with concerns/ questions I had or wouldn't come out and talk to me after returning to pick up my dog that had been put under for some work. I had also been in the hallway once, waiting to ask about care for my pet at home after they were injured under their supervision, and after she got off the phone, continued to talk very badly about the guest that was on the phone that had questions about what was happening with their pets. Needless to say. I received the very same heartless comments about my questions as well that can be summed up in the sentence, "I don't know your dog, maybe they will maybe they won't. Sure." I know there are frustrations for anyone in any job, but there is a time and place for everything. I understand some questions seem silly to someone who's been working with animals for a bit, but not everyone is a veterinarian. Furthermore, I had dogs that were being boarded there regularly (For at least 6 months) off and on. They would always be picked up with the wrong collars. That shows me that there wasn't even any effort put forward to even learn our dogs names. The kennal manager Jeff added food that I did not know about to my pets diets that I was not asked about before giving it to them. Regardless from the fact that they are fine, it is absolutely not okay to do this when I would bring their own food in every single time. The animals are also not supervised when they should be. There were multiple times my dogs were injured under their "supervision" and I still had to take care of the bills. This isn't the service I look for when I need members of my family tended to, and I don't want anyone else to put their pets in these situations either. Please do yourself a favor and consider any other option before bringing a beloved family member to this facility.Read Less

Our pet requires ongoing treatment and after having a terrible experience at VCA we chose Bolton because of the good things we heard - we were not disappointed. The Vets at Bolton are extremely caring and thorough. We feel, with 100% certainty, our pet is receiving the absolute best care.Read Less

We followed Dr. Horn from her previous clinic.  She is a very caring person, it is obvious she really loves animals.  For some things we prefer alternative medicine over conventional veterinary practices.  Dr. Horn works with us instead of trying to change our minds so our dog gets the best possible care. About three years ago I got a kitten that ended up having several medical issues. I had taken him to the VCA and they charged me a lot of money and provided no solutions. They said they would need to run expensive tests to determine anything. When we first took him to Bolton he was so sick we thought we'd have to put him down. Dr. Horn knew right away what was wrong with him and saved my kitten! I have been working with her since then to manage his conditions and she has been amazing and so helpful. We recently moved to NM and have been two other places looking for a vet. We have definitely found a home with Bolton. We took our dog in and she saw Dr. Keppers for a routine heart-worm test. However, Dr. Keppers took the time to ask about any other issues our dog was having and talked to us at length about those. We ended up getting some other blood work done that she recommended. I felt that it was testing that really needed to be done rather than something extra for us to pay for. She was awesome, caring, and laid back. Our "Nervous Nell" was kept at ease and all was good. Another plus - The reception area is roomy and comfortable unlike Blue Cross where you are crammed in with other dogs, cats, etc which adds to the pet's stress of being at the vet.  Also, at Bolton, the reception staff couldn't have been nicer. You could tell they valued their customers because many people came and went as we were there and they were all greeted by name.YAY - another thing crossed off our list as we get settled in to NM. Bolton Animal Hospital has been our choice of vet since moving here in 2005. There was a colony of feral street cats already living at the house we moved into, and BAH has been wonderful and helpful in our ensuing cat rescue life. While they may not be the least expensive, they care deeply for both our pets and for us, too, I think. We are loyal clients - and you should see how thick our file is! Worst experience at a vet to date. We loved Dr. Post, who treated us kindly and professionally. Now there's a new vet who all but villified my husband for not pulling teeth, trimming nails (which were trimmed, he has very long quicks) nor neutering our dog despite us bringing in our dog for a possible strain. We will never return. Such a shame. We love our new vet who is kind, not judgmental, and highly recommended. Read Less

I have both brought my cat here for boarding and my dog here for treatment.  I was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and the friendliness of the staff.  These are clearly people who care about your animals.  The boarding rates are very reasonable, and when I picked my cat up after a 5 day stay, she was clean and relaxed.  I brought my 8 week old puppy in for emergency treatment and he was seen right away, and Dr. Bolton was considerate and very helpful in treating him.  I highly recommend the hospital and the boarding service. Five stars. This vet hospital is nothing short of excellent. Dr. Bolton and Dr. Keppers are both attentive vets and take their time in analyzing the situation with your pets.  You can tell they just care. They care about you and they care about your pets. I've never had a problem with getting a same day appointment either. Their prices (not that price matters when it comes to the fur babies) are competitively average for a vet visit. I think its around $40. Their other staff is friendly and knowledgable and they do boarding here too. If you are looking for a vet in Albuquerque, come here! Read Less

This is the only place in town I will take my cats. They are so friendly, helpful, and informative! While vet care is expensive, they accept carecredit -- which is nice for those of us who have trouble paying large expenses, especially in an emergency. One of my cats got extremely ill and they were so professional and kind. When it seemed like he might not make it, they let me spend quality time with him in the back. He pulled through thanks to the awesome veterinary care at Bolton, but even when it seemed like he might not make it, they were hopeful, caring, and compassionate. They have a groomer on staff too, we are trying her services really soon and I will edit my review. She sounds great though. Overall in my past few years as a pet owner, I have come to appreciate the high quality of care these people give and will continue to take my pets here. Read Less

I've been there twice to get my dog his parvo and rabies shot and for a checkup and maybe it was just the vets that examined my dog at the time, but they seemed very uncomfortable with him, like they were scared thinking he was going to bite them or something. My dog was a puppy at the time so of course he was scared to be at the vet. I've had other dogs as well that were scared when I took them to another vet and those vets were way more comfortable with my past dogs, (petting them right away, acting as if they were their own dogs, etc.) I've never seen a vet so timid and doubtful with a scared dog before. If your a vet you should be able to be comfortable with dogs no matter what their behavior is. This place gave me a really uncomfortable and weird vibe. Read Less

I take my Weimaraner, Daisy, to Bolton Animal Hospital and love how much they truly care about her as much as I do. I have taken her to a different "animal hospital" in town and had a not so great experiences when it came to their staff and pricing. But, Bolton Animal Hospital operates like a mom and pops vet clinic, animal hospital, and boarding kennel all in one awesome place. I take Daisy there for boarding when we go out of town for weeks at a time and I am never worried about her. She always walks in knowing she is going to get the best care while her momma is away and it puts me at ease. This place is honest when they are talking about the care of my dog and I appreciate it because when you have an animal that's spoiled, Bolton Animal Hospital tends to keep me in line when it comes to her needs. I've been taking my geriatric cat, Samson, to Bolton for seven years and have always been very pleased with their services. Recently, Dr. Jen Keppers took care of Samson. I love my pets, I truly do. But it tires me to go in for a basic checkup and shots and leave having been persuaded to pay for bloodwork and other exams. Also, I do not care to receive frequent email reminders of services I could purchase. If you have plenty of money to spend on health care for pets, Bolton is the place to go. I know their service is wonderful, and the facility is clean and well-kept. I appreciate the care my cat received there. I simply wish I had not been gently pressured to spend more than I could afford on testing. Read Less

My cats are loved beyond belief by everyone at Bolton. They provide the best of care, and if I were apprised of a cheaper option elsewhere, my dudes would still go to Bolton. I can't recommend this place enough. The patients are king here, the care is exceptional, the doctors are wonderful, and the staff is amazing. This place is where anyone who loves animals should bring their little companions if health problems occur. Bolton has blown my mind in the last week, taking care of my cat with so much kindness to both the little guy and to two busy and distraught owners.
