The employees here are slow and clueless, and not friendly. They carry a condescending tone and will make you wait for a long time. They handled my little chi mix pretty roughly after making us wait in a little room for half an hour. He was so obviously stressed out by the way they handled him. I saw one of the nurses carrying a puppy by the neck while we were waiting. Not a pleasant experience, thanks for traumatizing an already traumatized pooch. They didn’t explain to me what was going on and what he would need or why. Waste of time and VERY EXPENSIVE Read Less

We were in a dire situation, my dog was severely ill and needed to take him into a vet right away. Good Shepherd made a same day appointment for my dog (Boxer), I had showed up about 45min. Early and they took him in anyway because of his bad state. The vet was super nice and sympathetic to our situation.. They took our dog to the back and gave him pain medication so he would not be in pain and also put him on IV fluids. They allowed us to wait in the waiting room while they tried to save our beloved dog, during our wait the staff was very nice and accommodating. After all was said and done we were to late to save our 9yr old Boxer puppy, vet and staff were very compassionate towards us and even allowed us in the back to be with our puppy for his final breaths. A few weeks later they sent our family a "sorry for your loss" card!! I would definitely recommend this place to other people!! Super friendly and compassionate staff and affordable. Read Less

I've been to several vet clinics in the last 3 years and this one, by far, has been the worst. If it wasn't for the tech, I wouldn't even rate it a one star. The doctor never explained to me what was going on with my pet because she was too busy telling me what my pet "needed" (chips, vaccinations he already had etc, etc) then proceeded to give me a ridiculous estimate on the very high end, double of what other pet clinics charge. St. Francis please don't refer people there anymore. St. Francis vets are MUCH more thorough, caring, and not to mention, affordable. Read Less

I agree with the previous reviews, although, I would say that Dr Skains is better than Dr Bingham. Dr Bingham cares more about her bottom line than she does about animals. I have been taking my cats here for years before Dr. Bingham was even part of this practice. Ever since I met her/cat had an appointment with her, I have been trying to avoid her and only take my cat to Dr Skains. Here's why: Dr Bingham is constantly talking over me during the appointments and doesn't listen to a thing I have to say. She is always pushing unnecessary medication and procedures for my cat, and even got to the point where she refused to treat my cat unless I agreed to what she said. She acts more like a pharmaceutical rep or salesperson than a vet who cares about animals. When I called to talk to Dr Skains about this situation, she was a bit rude about it, and insisted on talking over me rather than listening to my side of it. Needless to say, I will be finding another place to take my cats! Read Less

My 7 year old dog had gotten I'll and i took him into Good Shepard.  He had grew an abses on his neck. They examined him and gave him medication. That visit was very fair priced. (Allthough we would pay anything for our pets). During the weekend his abses popped. I took him back and they did surgery. The vet didn't know what had caused his abses so while she was cleaning it out she decided to do more investagating, she had found a fox tail lodged way back behind his ear. Had she not been so thorough he would have passed.  Another fair priced visit. He was given more medication and "the cone of shame". For three weeks he wore the cone and took medicine.  Over those three weeks we were visiting two times a week to watch the healingy each visit had no charge. My dog healed nicely. He's bouncy, happy and healthy again. The vet and staff were always friendly  and efficient. The waiting room and examination rooms were clean. They offer food and other edibles, T-shirts, key chains and other misc items. I would highly recommend Good Sheppard!!!! Read Less

These people really have no clue what they're doing. They misdiagnosed my cat and now he's dead. He had a long history of UTIs, which were treated at Good Shepard. A few weeks ago, he was having problems urinating, so I took him in expecting it to be another urinary problem. He had a lot of fluid in his belly. The first vet I spoke to tried to tell me it was fat. I told her it very definitely was not, as it just developed over the past week. She proceeded to argue with me and basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about. I left him with them to run some tests. Their diagnosis was irritable bowel syndrome which lead to leaky gut syndrome. They changed his food and had me give him sub epidermal fluids for dehydration. I took him back the following week and he had not improved. They told me to keep feeding him the new food and bring him back the following week, so I did. When I took him back in, he was worse. They wanted to insert a feeding tube into his stomach, which was something I didn't want to do. They said the alternative was to keep feeding him the new food and see if he improves. He got worse to the point he could barely walk. I took him to VCA Animal Hospital to get a second opinion. I had googled Good Shepard's diagnosis and the symptoms were completely different. When I took him to VCA, they said he had kidney disease. By the time I took him in, his kidneys had failed and he had to be euthanized. If Good Shepard had properly diagnosed him, he could have been treated and would still be alive today. If you love your pet, I would take him or her somewhere else. Read Less

I took my beloved, healthy Hijito Mio, a 10 year old cat to the vet ...to be seen for constipation. It was about 4:00 PM. They told me they needed to give him an enema. A little before 5:00 PM (quitting time), they said he had not had a BM and I should take him home and watch him. They were in a real hurry to get us out of there. They were more concerned about me bringing their pet carrier back than they were about Hijito Mio. When we got home, I let my Hijito Mio walk from the car to the house (he was anxious to get home) and noticed that he apparently had a lot of fluid in his body cavity as his belly was swinging back and forth. He went into the house and laid on his belly behind a heavy desk. At 12 midnight he was still there in the same position but seemed to be alert. I went to bed. I woke up at 4:00 AM and went to check on him....he was DEAD !!!..stiff !!...He had tried to get to our bedroom....he was halfway there, when he died. How could an enema kill a healthy, strong vital cat?...... IF THEY PERFERATED HIS COLON!!!...AND THE FLUID EMPTYED INTO HIS BODY CAVITY...THAT WOULD EXPLAIN HIS BELLY SWINGING BACK AND FORTH WHEN I BROUGH HIM HOME.!!!!....AND THE FACT THAT HE NEVER HAD A BM !!!!!!! ..the enema fluid never was in his intestine! THEY KILLED MY BELOVED HIJITO MIO !!!!...through carelessness, and thoughtlessness!... I am sure the vet passed the responsibility of inserting the enema to a careless, thought less, BRAINLESS employee, who did not care and the result was DEATH FOR A BELOVED PET..!!! The compassion, professionalism and knowledge they demonstrated was second to none. Together, we worked out a treatment plan and agreed on what treatments did not make sense. I bought a number of supplies for Lizzie, including sub-q fluid. They offered a very reasonable price for a dozen bags. All of Lizzie's supplies were cheaper than her previous vet. Lizzie was euthanized at Good Shepard. They accommodated our very short notice with ease.and shared in our grief. For whatever reason, I still do not know why, but I bought a miniature poodle from a group of shady looking people in the Smiths parking lot. I've always been a shelter dog kind of person but I guess I was hormonal or something that day. She looked like a teddy bear and only had one sock. I needed something to love. And love her I do, but man, this dog has turned out to one strange situation after another, thankfully Good Shepherd is there to fix her up every time. First things first, I had the dog fixed because I have great respect for Bob Barker.  So imagine my surprise when my fixed dog suddenly goes into heat. Turns out she had an extra ovary. These things happen when your parents are brother and sister, I guess. Good Shepherd took care of that. She also had some seriously scary dew claws. Dew claws are scary enough as they are, but imagine how scary they can be when there are three distinct nails coming out of each dew claw. Heebie jeebies. Another sign that the dog's parents are closely related. No worries, Good Shepherd removed those devil dew claws.Considering my dog's genetic makeup, would you be surprised if I told you she was kinda dim? Or maybe a lot dim? One time she ate an entire package of sugar free gum.  This is BAD NEWS for dogs because one of the sweeteners used in the gum reacts really badly in their system and forces the dog to go into insulin shock. THANK GOD Good Shepherd was there and took in my dog immediately, pumped her stomach and kept her overnight for observation. More recently, dimmy mcdimmerson decided to try and jump an chain link fence -- resulting in a huge gash under her leg.  Guess who stitched her up?So, yeah she is a dog, and a rather stupid one at that, but at least with Good Shepherd she has the nine lives of a cat. I am traveling around the country with my Standard Poodle, Max, and he developed a limp when we were in Flagstaff, Arizona.  I took him to a vet there who diagnosed a sprain, based on his symptoms, and gave us medication for inflammation and pain.  Two days later, in Albuquerque, his foot was badly swollen and bleeding a little.  I went to Good Shepherd and they took us in immediately.  They have separate waiting areas for dogs and for cats, birds and exotics.  The dog waiting area is divided so you can keep your dog settled around any others that are waiting.  A nice, thoughtful touch.  Dr. Bingham was fantastic!  She was kind and gentle with Max, who was in pain, quickly diagnosing that he had a foreign object in his paw - probably some spiny desert thing.  She took him out to the back to drain the infection and flush the wound, returning him, tail wagging (always a good sign) with a well-bandaged paw.  She explained carefully what she thought was going on, gave me advice on what to do next, and answered all my questions.  We left with a 10-day supply of antibiotics, and a happy pup!The staff, the cleanliness and cheeriness of the facility, as well as Dr. Bingham, were all excellent!  I would HIGHLY recommend this clinic. I initially got referred top this "" dr "" via carecrdit , essentially a vet credit card. I've had some rough experiences with vets, I have a semi disabled dog, and I've found most of them care little, and are only interested in money.. dr. skains ( not capitalized on purpose) was no exception. My Bosotn Terrier was a 7 year old healthy dog. She used to have bound;less energy and used to run with me. I began to notice she was drinking TONS of water, and behaving lethargic, so I made an appt. and took her in. skains initially diagnosed her with a bad thyroid, and prescribed expensive thyroid meds. After a few weeks, I noticed no change in my dog, she was getting worse. They kept insisting to wait longer and I keep pumping her the meds, again, no change. This went on for a few months, despite her obvious deterioration. A friend of my Mom's who has Bostons, suggested my dog may have "" canine cushing's ""disease. Evidently its common in Boston Terriers. I researched this, online, and found my dogs symptoms matched this disease perfectly. every symptom. I suggested this to skains, and she pooh-poohed me essentially telling me i didnt know what i was talking about, and I cant believe everything I read on the internet. I insisted my dog get tested, and of course, she was positive. I recieved no apology from skains, no "" my bad"", she was basically as rude and crappy as she usually was. It got so bad with skains, the last few months I dealt only with her assistant. Tuesday 12/9/09 the very day she tested positive for canine cushings disease, she could hardly walk, and had alot of blood in her stool. She was throwing up blood as well. I rushed her to the emergency vet, where she died 5 hours later of septic shock. I had an necropsy done on her, and the initial results , according to the vet at the emergency hospital, who, was super nice and compassionate by the way, said her death was consistent with a dog ho had advanced cushings. He said her liver was huge, and abnormally shaped, and she essentially couldnt process her food. Im waiting or the rest of the results.... Had skains figured this out sooner, she would still be alive. Had skains listened to me, when I first suggested this, she may still be alive. When I called skains to tell her my dog was dead, she apologized, but again was rude, b*tchy, and un-professional. The entire time Ive dealt with this "" dr"" she was as rude, short and snappy as any ""professional"" I have ever met. Her arrogance and negligence, in my opinion, led to my dog's death. Not only did i lose my dog, but had this woman one inclination of what she was doing, my dog would still be here.. I'm currently looking into legal options. I wouldn't recommend the good shepperd, or the horrible owner "" dr"" skains to my worst enemy. Read Less

Read Less
