I love this place SO MUCH! Dr. Chalfant, Jennifer, and the rest of her staff are amazing. My boxer, Smokey had to have some dental work done yesterday and he had 2 teeth extracted. They were so good to him and I from start to finish to even the follow up call today checking on him. I would recommend anybody to go there for any services for their fur-babies!!!

Visiting Albuquerque for balloon festival. After getting our poodle groomed, we were told her feet seemed swollen and ears were bad. Poodles need hair pulled from the inside. We got an appointment the next day at La Cueva and were very relieved. Dr Kim checked her out and she did have ear infection. They cleaned her ears and sent us on our way with meds. She and the staff were very pleasant, kind to our dog and efficient. Thank you for taking care of us!

Unfriendly receptionist. You'll know when you call. However, I called another time and I got a friendlier voice. The veterinarian and assistants are about average, so for the price of a visit, you're better off going to a VetCo (or comparable vet). My experience here wasn't great. I made a decision not to return here after calling to schedule another visit. The receptionist is simply unfriendly and a rude.

I have been a client of the La Cueva Animal Hospital for four years. I've taken my eight retired racing Greyhounds (currently four) to Dr. Kim Chalfant and could not be more pleased.
A major reason I changed to La Cueva from my previous veterinarian was La Cueva's policy of never turning a sick or injured animal away when their help is needed regardless of not having an appointment and/or their schedule being full. This policy applies to "walk-in" cases as well as established clients and is of the utmost importance to me.
Dr. Chalfant makes it a point to get to personally know her patients as well as their caregivers - you are more that just another customer at La Cueva.
In addition to never turning away or referring emegencies (that she is capable of dealing with) Dr. Chalfant is a very skilled and compassionate doctor who has invested in state of the art equipment and stays well versed in the latest developments in veterinary medicine.
In my world, my veterinarian the most important person. I feel very fortunate mine and Dr. Chalfant's paths crossed four years ago, 10 minutes prior to her closing, when she waited for a stranger (me) to bring in my Greyhound, Sharpie, who had sustained several lacerations requiring emergency care. I have referred a number of friends to Dr. Chalfant and all have been very pleased with her and her care. She is truly a person in her profession for the right reasons.

Terrible experience and I do not recommend this vet or her services. Customer service is poor and they told me to give my dog a potent tranquilizer a day before my dog's procedure to "try it out" then instructed me to give her another dose for her procedure. My dog was was so sedated that her eyes were twitching and even had to call poison control. I called several other vets and they said that this doctor gave an untoward and unorthodox medication order. Do not use her services if you want the best for your pets.

I am so thankful to have found Dr. Kim and La Cueva Animal Hospital! As a owner of a large-breed dog (pure bred Great Dane), it is really important to us to have a vet who is experienced with our breed and the challenges that come with large dogs. Not only is Dr. Kim very experienced, she is a great dane owner herself, which gives us a whole different level of comfort! We feel totally comfortable trusting our dog's health to her hands. We have found her prices to be very fairly priced, and not had any trouble getting care when things come up. We highly recommend her clinic- she is worth the drive!

I live in Rio Rancho and I happily make the 30 min drive to see Dr. Chalfant and her staff. They are all very professional and caring. I trust them with all four of my animals and appreciate the thorough visits and education the doctor provides. The doctor took our collie in last minute to help repair a bad suture job done elsewhere. She also has performed 2 surgeries on our sharpei mix, one was for a really arthritic toe and the other to remove a cancerous mass. Dr. Chalfant called me personally to go over the diagnosis and treatment options, then called again once she received the results back from histology. I appreciated her calling personally and answering all my many, many questions.
She also helped treat my cat who was urinating on the couch and floor- recommending a special diet, more exercise and more one on one attention and voila! No more smelly couch! I highly recommend La Cueva Animal Hospital.

Don't be fooled its NOT a hospital! Its a vet office. I took my dog there multiple times for the same conidition and 500.00 later he gets diagnosed with "nothing is wrong." Well he has been suffering for over a year with a "nothing is wrong" conidition. Come to find out he has Lyme disease! Which you would think for 500.00, we could have gotten that info.!
I will never take my dog there again. Beware, the doctor doesn't even want the owner in the room, they come and take your dog back and ask you to wait. Mind you, that should have been my first RED Flag!

I've been going here for about a year now, and this review is extremely overdue. My first experience with Dr. Kim Chalfant was to have dental surgery on both of my kitties. She's extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and takes her time explaining the tedious medical terms that come with the job. Another positive note is the compassion she has, as well as her staff (particularly her right hand - Jen), for the animals. Always concerned about their well-being and comfort level before and after surgery, they make excellent recommendations, and always put the care of the animals first and foremost. This was seen with my kitties, as well as our dog.
To add to the compassion, I've recently lost one of the two cats that I had to cancer. Dr. Kim and her staff worked diligently to diagnose what type of cancer she had, as well as performed a precarious surgery just to give the possibility of a few more months with my beloved furry family member. Unfortunately the cancer wasn't a curable one. I cannot enunciate how compassionate the staff is in regard to an owners feelings, as well as the proper care for an animal. Throughout the process of dealing with the cancer, they were always responsive, and patient to all questions and concerns that I had.
For those of you who are reading this and are concerned about money - they are very reasonably priced and the treatment you receive is priceless in my eyes. Quotes are given upfront as well if needed. I truly cannot be more thankful to have Dr. Kim Chalfant as our family vet.

We tool our 8 year old Pomeranian to Dr. Chalfant after a recommendation from a friend of a friend. We knew her teeth were in need of a dental again, despite her getting one the previous year. What we did not know, is that apparently our former vet did not perform x-rays, so there were rotting teeth left in our dog's mouth! Dr. Chalfant DID take x-rays, and consulted with us using the x-rays to help us determine the teeth that should be removed. She was not in the least pushy in either direction, to either keep or remove teeth, and let us determine the best course of action after we had heard the facts and her recommendations. Low and behold, after the necessary teeth were removed, our pomeranian did not have any more seizures, which she had suffered from once per month for many years! This is truly a miracle! Thank you Dr. Chalfant and staff!

Visiting Albuquerque for balloon festival. After getting our poodle groomed, we were told her feet seemed swollen and ears were bad. Poodles need hair pulled from the inside. We got an appointment the next day at La Cueva and were very relieved. Dr Kim checked her out and she did have ear infection. They cleaned her ears and sent us on our way with meds. She and the staff were very pleasant, kind to our dog and efficient. Thank you for taking care of us!

Unfriendly receptionist. You'll know when you call. However, I called another time and I got a friendlier voice. The veterinarian and assistants are about average, so for the price of a visit, you're better off going to a VetCo (or comparable vet). My experience here wasn't great. I made a decision not to return here after calling to schedule another visit. The receptionist is simply unfriendly and a rude.

I had a dog that no vet seemed to be able to help. Dr. Kim and her staff not only helped Pooh, they gave him some extra good years. They have helped many of our animals. Great staff.

I have been a client of the La Cueva Animal Hospital for four years. I've taken my eight retired racing Greyhounds (currently four) to Dr. Kim Chalfant and could not be more pleased.
A major reason I changed to La Cueva from my previous veterinarian was La Cueva's policy of never turning a sick or injured animal away when their help is needed regardless of not having an appointment and/or their schedule being full. This policy applies to "walk-in" cases as well as established clients and is of the utmost importance to me.
Dr. Chalfant makes it a point to get to personally know her patients as well as their caregivers - you are more that just another customer at La Cueva.
In addition to never turning away or referring emegencies (that she is capable of dealing with) Dr. Chalfant is a very skilled and compassionate doctor who has invested in state of the art equipment and stays well versed in the latest developments in veterinary medicine.
In my world, my veterinarian the most important person. I feel very fortunate mine and Dr. Chalfant's paths crossed four years ago, 10 minutes prior to her closing, when she waited for a stranger (me) to bring in my Greyhound, Sharpie, who had sustained several lacerations requiring emergency care. I have referred a number of friends to Dr. Chalfant and all have been very pleased with her and her care. She is truly a person in her profession for the right reasons.

Terrible experience and I do not recommend this vet or her services. Customer service is poor and they told me to give my dog a potent tranquilizer a day before my dog's procedure to "try it out" then instructed me to give her another dose for her procedure. My dog was was so sedated that her eyes were twitching and even had to call poison control. I called several other vets and they said that this doctor gave an untoward and unorthodox medication order. Do not use her services if you want the best for your pets.

I am so thankful to have found Dr. Kim and La Cueva Animal Hospital! As a owner of a large-breed dog (pure bred Great Dane), it is really important to us to have a vet who is experienced with our breed and the challenges that come with large dogs. Not only is Dr. Kim very experienced, she is a great dane owner herself, which gives us a whole different level of comfort! We feel totally comfortable trusting our dog's health to her hands. We have found her prices to be very fairly priced, and not had any trouble getting care when things come up. We highly recommend her clinic- she is worth the drive!

I live in Rio Rancho and I happily make the 30 min drive to see Dr. Chalfant and her staff. They are all very professional and caring. I trust them with all four of my animals and appreciate the thorough visits and education the doctor provides. The doctor took our collie in last minute to help repair a bad suture job done elsewhere. She also has performed 2 surgeries on our sharpei mix, one was for a really arthritic toe and the other to remove a cancerous mass. Dr. Chalfant called me personally to go over the diagnosis and treatment options, then called again once she received the results back from histology. I appreciated her calling personally and answering all my many, many questions.
She also helped treat my cat who was urinating on the couch and floor- recommending a special diet, more exercise and more one on one attention and voila! No more smelly couch! I highly recommend La Cueva Animal Hospital.

Don't be fooled its NOT a hospital! Its a vet office. I took my dog there multiple times for the same conidition and 500.00 later he gets diagnosed with "nothing is wrong." Well he has been suffering for over a year with a "nothing is wrong" conidition. Come to find out he has Lyme disease! Which you would think for 500.00, we could have gotten that info.!
I will never take my dog there again. Beware, the doctor doesn't even want the owner in the room, they come and take your dog back and ask you to wait. Mind you, that should have been my first RED Flag!

I've been going here for about a year now, and this review is extremely overdue. My first experience with Dr. Kim Chalfant was to have dental surgery on both of my kitties. She's extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and takes her time explaining the tedious medical terms that come with the job. Another positive note is the compassion she has, as well as her staff (particularly her right hand - Jen), for the animals. Always concerned about their well-being and comfort level before and after surgery, they make excellent recommendations, and always put the care of the animals first and foremost. This was seen with my kitties, as well as our dog.
To add to the compassion, I've recently lost one of the two cats that I had to cancer. Dr. Kim and her staff worked diligently to diagnose what type of cancer she had, as well as performed a precarious surgery just to give the possibility of a few more months with my beloved furry family member. Unfortunately the cancer wasn't a curable one. I cannot enunciate how compassionate the staff is in regard to an owners feelings, as well as the proper care for an animal. Throughout the process of dealing with the cancer, they were always responsive, and patient to all questions and concerns that I had.
For those of you who are reading this and are concerned about money - they are very reasonably priced and the treatment you receive is priceless in my eyes. Quotes are given upfront as well if needed. I truly cannot be more thankful to have Dr. Kim Chalfant as our family vet.

We tool our 8 year old Pomeranian to Dr. Chalfant after a recommendation from a friend of a friend. We knew her teeth were in need of a dental again, despite her getting one the previous year. What we did not know, is that apparently our former vet did not perform x-rays, so there were rotting teeth left in our dog's mouth! Dr. Chalfant DID take x-rays, and consulted with us using the x-rays to help us determine the teeth that should be removed. She was not in the least pushy in either direction, to either keep or remove teeth, and let us determine the best course of action after we had heard the facts and her recommendations. Low and behold, after the necessary teeth were removed, our pomeranian did not have any more seizures, which she had suffered from once per month for many years! This is truly a miracle! Thank you Dr. Chalfant and staff!
