This is by far the best clinic I have been to for my babies in Abq. They even called my angel a baby too! She had severe dental issues and not once did they treat me like a bad dog mom, but instead gave compassion and understanding being as she is a rescue. They are very kind and go over every detail with you along the way. They offer a payment-plan type thing you can sign up for monthly (for select services) and are more than willing to work with you. The kindness and love they showed myself and my sweet doggie was just wonderful. Some say they are more expensive, but I have been to another (I wont name them) clinic who charged me just as much, if not more, without the compassion you can find at Monzano Animal Clinic. These employees geuinely care about the well being of your pet and you. I couldnt be happier with my expeirence! My little girl is the most happy lively dog I've ever seen after surgery. The staff are very nice. The prices? Not so much. It's local which is good. What's not good? A cat with a cone. He did his best not to look like a dork to the other one. I swear he was trying to strut around like it was in style or something but you can only run into edges of doorways and corners of walls so many times. Then it's just sad. Really really sad. Screwed up people..i called to see if they could still take my animal and they said, "come as soon as you can"..i get there and the receptiinist gives me an attitude then another person tells me i have to reschedule after i drove an hour...and wants to read me policies!!! We've used Manzano for 25 years with all our personal Akitas.  We also run NM Akita Rescue Group and rescue Akitas from all across the state, and Manzano has provided quality, over-and-above care for our rescue Akitas with special needs. Every member of the staff is wonderful, and our Akitas (known as a stand-offish breed) can't wait to get inside and greet them.  Yes, our dogs love going to the vet!  I feel that the prices are fair for the quality, and the Paws Plan pays for itself. I have been taking my 9-year-old Jack Russell here since she was two months old. Her original vet retired, but Dr. Bri has been an outstanding replacement. She is attentive and knowledgeable, and I will always trust our little girl's health to her. The staff are great, too, and I've never had a bad experience. They also offer an outstanding health plan (not insurance), called Paw Plan. I've never heard of other places offering this, but for a low monthly payment, we have peace of mind for our girl's health.They are closed on Saturdays now, and this is the only aspect I wish was different about this place, but everything else is great, and I will always recommend Manzano and Dr. Bri to anyone. I brought a stray dog here to see if he had a chip. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, and helpful and ultimately made it possible to reunited the stray with his family. So, I haven't used Manzano Animal Clinic as a vet, but I'd still recommend it based on this experience. Read Less

I've done many reviews of Manzano before, but where they ended up I don't know! I've been going there since it was a "one-horse" clinic, in 1975, with my first kitty. Now, many kitties later, I have trained many vets (kidding), but my history includes receptionists Dee, Suzanne, Michelle of the old days, Dr Rollag, Drs Jackson, Coons, Southwick, Whaley (I think her first challenge was spending the night saving my new pound kitty's life - she earned the privilege of becoming our "primary care" cat-ician). My older dog has been going to Manzano for ~14 years, and the rest of my fur family is seen there as well. The staff and doctors - we primarily see Dr. Bri but everyone there is wonderful - are always tolerant of my and my babies behavior, and take the time to explain in detail what is best for them. The paw plan tailored to my dogs ages is affordable and provides extra services. I never feel like I'm paying for services I don't need, and the office has worked with me when my dogs had to have emergency surgeries; which were not cheap, but very reasonable compared to other veterinary businesses. My older dog ate a rock that lodged in her stomach, and almost exactly 1 year later my new puppy swallowed part of a toy that lodged in his intestine. They both came through with flying colors; although my now almost 2 year old still tries to swallow everything... I was very upset taking my older dog in for her recent dental visit because she's old and frail, and I was really emotional about her going under anesthesia (she was perfectly fine). Having someone take the time to "talk me off the ledge" was greatly appreciated. My dog's frailty and sensitivity also improved after her teeth cleaning and extractions, so I'm assuming she was in pain before hand. She obviously received excellent care and is a little more active with a little more attitude. I'm just extremely grateful to have Manzano taking care of my babies. Read Less

Receptionist was rude and seemed inconvenienced that I was calling. Michelle put me on hold three times to get pricing for updating shots and getting a micro chip. Not a Good experience calling the office and doubt there would be a better experience taking my dog there. Read Less

I cannot express how comforting, professional and kind everyone was during the emotional visit I had (putting down my 12 year old cat). The comfort of my cat was of utmost importance to the dr and her genuine compassion as she helped me say good bye was incredible. The nurse/tech was so sweet and kind and even helped me with my two young children. I have all the confidence in Manzano Animal Clinic, as we have taken several pets there over the years. They strive to be compassionate and to give superb care from the minute you come through the door. My little dog and I are treated with courtesy by the receptionists, assistants, and doctors who spend time making sure my dog's health is the priority. The whole veterinary staff are very attentive. This last visit they shared the different options available for his care but didn't push anything on me and I appreciated this. The doctors always inquire about my little guy's personality, too, not just their immediate health. My dog is held, comforted and talked to.This is a great benefit as he is a little Chihuahua with nerves of Jell-O. He is always offered a treat, too. I am given ample time to explain my concerns and ask questions. Appointments are easy to make. I made this last one at their website, never had to use the phone, and was responded to immediately with a confirmed appointment. Two other things that impress me greatly: They are very clean and sanitary. As I sat in the waiting area I could see the assistant wiping down the room I would be called to. She wiped everything down multiple times with her spray bottle, leaving nothing of the last patient behind. I also have observed with every visit that they often mop the floor whether there has been an accident or not. I trust their care and have no reason to go elsewhere. They also have a rewards deal. Quality care and affordable.I moved to ABQ last year and was looking for a vet for my 7 year old pitbull mix.My dog suffers from a few health issues, so I didn't want to go to one of those posh vets where they treat you and your pet like royalty but also want $500 every time you see them. I also didn't want to go to a vet that takes two weeks to get in. After doing some research and asking around, I gave Manzano a chance because their reviews were overall very good and multiple reviews mentioned how reasonable their costs were.I have now visited Manzano with my dog multiple times and I am very happy with their quality of care and their reasonable pricing. I have not had to do any major procedures, so I can't speak to that -- but the cost of regular visits, lab testing, and prescription medicine has been very fair.I was extremely pleased when, during my first visit, the veterinarian offered to write my dog's  prescriptions so I could get his regular pills online or at Costco at a better cost than buying directly from them. My previous vet in another state made it very difficult to get pills from anyone other than the vet pharmacy, so being able to shop around was a welcome change. However, I recently ran out of the medication and called Manzano to see if I could get a few pills while waiting on an online order. They were happy to give me a small amount of medicine to tide me over, but when I got there I realized the price of pills from Manzano was actually lower than what I had been buying online!In addition to good pricing, I have felt that their services were right in line with what I want. Good, quality care without going overboard. For instance, I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars at other vets and veterinarian dermatology specialists over the years on allergy test and treatments for my dog. We did find a few things that worked, but they had been very expensive. When I told Manzano about our experience with allergies, they recommended a topical solution to try that cost about $30. I am shocked how well the topical solution has worked, and that the $30 bottle has lasted me over six months at this point. We were able to take my dog off his custom-made allergy shots and reduce his allergy medicine thanks to the topical solution they recommended.Although I have only used their services a handful of times, I have found them to be competent, available when I need them, and quick to take care of any needs that have come up. I have visited more than one vet, as they are happy to work me in when I call rather than making me wait on an appointment. Each of the veterinarians I've seen have been professional and taken care of the needs I brought up.I have rated them four stars instead of five simply because I had a few problems with one of the guys who worked at the front desk and answered phones -- he didn't really seem like the type of person you wanted at the front desk or working the phones-- kind of argumentative and not very friendly. Another time when I came in, one of the ladies working up front was pretty unprofessional arguing with an upset customer. I will say that in that case I felt as if the customer was also out of line because they were upset, but I feel as if Manzano has room for overall improvement in the "warmth and friendliness" department before they deserve a full five stars.However, I fully recommend them and will continue taking my dog there! if you're looking for good, quality care at reasonable prices and don't need to feel like best friends with your vet staff, this may be a good place to try. Based on our experience, this clinic is a mess. Five unreturned calls over a week for a distressed dog, then to be scolded by vet for not addressing issues sooner. Service quality plummeted once an annual plan was purchased. To top it off, daughter made to wait an hour at pick-up with no explanation. The clinic was empty. There are lots of vets in town, avoid this one, unless you too have been burned with the "insurance" plan. Read Less

They are closed on Saturdays now!  When am I supposed to take my pet in?  What kind of a lazy vet office is closed on Saturday?  They used to be open at least 8-12 Sat morning.  Are the pet owner clients a) independently wealthy b) retired or c) unemployed?  Manzano Animal Clinic should put the needs of their working customers first, not the needs of their lazy veterinarians who want to have weekends off!  You are a vet office, you can't have banker's hours!  Even banks are open Saturdays! Please do not go to this vet!  They declaw cats!!!!  Any cat owner knows that this procedure is not performed by practically all vets and shelters prohibit adoption if your cat is going to be declawed. Read Less

I had a dog who fought pancreatic disease for almost two years. I had gone to numerous vets and they were all unable to find out what was wrong with him. I finally found Manzano Animal clinic, Dr Whaley was the best we had ever seen. She found out what he had and treated him and us with the best care we could have found. Had we gone to her first, I truly believe she would have been able to save him.He had been sick for over a year before we found Dr Whaley.The staff was wonderful and caring. Many times Dr Whaley would call at night or the next day to find out how he was doing she explained his state in detail to me everytime. The staff knew us by first name, and always got him in quickly. We now have a new puppy and Dr Whaley and her staff are the only vets I would trust. They are not the cheapest but are by far the best. This is a bit of a tough review to write, but I do want to at least give the staff here credit for their attitude and understanding during a tough time. One of our dogs was incurably sick and had to be euthanized. Throughout our entire time there, they told us very plainly what the process entailed, gave us as much time as we needed before and after the procedure to say good-bye, and were very understanding the whole way through. Nobody ever wants to be in a position where they have to put down one of their pets, but the staff here at least let him go painlessly and quickly, and I can't thank them enough for it.Read Less

Wow! What an awesome bunch of people! Her Highness (Shadow, a 6 year old Labrador) had an an absess of sorts on her ear. I was worried sick and she was hurting! I called Manzano Animal Clinic and got an appointment for  the following day. I knew she was in some pain so I was glad to get her in so quickly. I waited for all of 5 minutes and then our hero entered. Dr. Sandstede (forgive my spelling) introduced herself to me and then to Shadow and then got down on the ground with her and got a better sense of the problem. She knew right away what was up and laid out the options going forward. She took Shadow off to the back, dealt with the problem and returned (in a jiffy!) with a much happier and MUCH more comfortable puppy dog! All I can say is this: If you love your dog and want a vet who will love them, too.....well, head for Manzano Animal Clinic and you'll be glad that you did. Read Less

When my dog was poisoned I rushed to find the nearest source of help, or information, on possible treatment. After speaking with several members of poison control I felt unsure of the information I had been given, and wanted the second opinion of a veterinary professional. Due to their high ratings, the Manzano Animal Clinic seemed to be the best. When I spoke to the receptionist I was asked why was I calling if I had already received information. I was then told that I would not be helped because of possible legal complications. My pet is dying, but I was fortunate enough to call other clinics who were more than willing to give me advice, despite possible legalities. I will not list them here; however, no other office was unwilling to help me. I strongly recommend seeking care for your pet at ANY other facility. I cannot possibly stress strongly enough that the Manzano Animal Clinic had no care for the condition of my pet/friend. Their only apparent interest was in the dollars they receive from the loving pet owners of our city. Avoid this clinic at all costs. Read Less

I've had cats all my life but Dr. Sandra Whaley is the best vet I've ever worked with (as a client). She has especially helped me with my oldest cat who has various medical issues, and solved his long-term URI that my prior vet couldn't fix. Plus she is totally in tune with the cats - gentle, quiet and gives me all my options when treatment is needed. The front desk crew is always friendly, quick and competent. My family has been working with Dr. Whaley for many years, and my boyfriend and I just got our first dog and knew we had to work with her as well. We've ran into an issue with him already and the staff have been so friendly and understanding in our worrying over every little thing he does. Small things make this place wonderful, like the fact that the staff refer to your pet as a kiddo, which just shows they know how much taking care of a dog is like being a parent, and that they really do appreciate their clients. Dr. Whaley is the most wonderful vet we've ever dealt with, and I am beyond impressed by her ability to care for our dog. I've coming here since I move to ABQ. The staff is helpful and friendly. My 2 cats see Dr. Brianna, and since they both have heart conditions they also get ultrasounds from Dr Whaley. Both doc are very good and get to know the animals they work on. I have 1 scared cat and the other is vocal but a push over. They are able to accommodate both their personalities very well. After moving to ABQ, we "tried out" several vets over the course of our first couple of years in town.  We were sorely disappointed with clinics (vets and staff) until we found Manzano Animal Clinic.  We've worked with three veterinarians in the clinic over the past five or so years and have been more than pleased with all of them.  Our current one, Brianna Wildgoose-Lister, DVM is fantastic. She's incredibly bright, with a wide and deep knowledge base.  She explains things in an understandable and very descriptive way.  She's gifted in working with people, as well as dogs and cats.  We recently went through a medical emergency situation with our dog  and Dr. Wildgoose-Lister, one of the the other clinic vets, and staff stayed late on a Friday night so that we could have the procedure performed at the clinic, rather than having to go to an animal hospital for surgery. We have been going to the Manzano Animal Clinic for just over two years now.  My family has had two cats and a dog who have seen the staff there on a regular basis. My vet is Dr. Sandra Whaley and she is the best vet I've had in 20+ years of going to vets.The staff are always friendly and greet you immediately when you enter.  The waiting is large enough that dogs and cats don't have to be near one another if they don't want to be.  The exam rooms are clean and well equipped.  We've been in many times and have only had to wait more than ten minutes once when another animal was brought in who was in a life threatening situation.Dr. Whaley is an amazing combination of practitioner and research scientist.  If she doesn't know the answer (which is rare) she uses her research skills and network of other doctors to find them. We always feel that we get not only the best answers, but answers based on the most recent research work being done.We've had more than one animal go through final illnesses.  Manzano, and Dr Whaley in particular, are always sympathetic while remaining honest about options and what is best for the animal.  She explains things carefully and makes sure you understand what is happening now, what needs to happen next, and what the possible future outcomes might be.  Prices are always fair and we have never felt that any procedure or test was done unnecessarily.  Communication is excellent with Dr Whaley (or other staff) calling to check in with us and with updates from her end. When it has come to say good-bye to some of our beloved pets they are generous with their condolences as well as their charges.  Honestly, it doesn't get any better than this. Read Less

They have a wonderful cat specialist (Sandra Whaley) who took extremely great care of my diabetic cat, Cleo, for years until she passed away last year. Now Dr. Whaley is taking care of our new dog, Molly.  I have the utmost confidence in the veterinary care given to my pets at Manzano Animal Clinic.
