I will never bring my dog to Route 66 Veterinary Hospital again. My dog was ill and having digestive problems, and it was during a Saturday so I brought my dog to Route 66 for care. I explained to them that I am low-income and couldn't afford to pay, so my friend was prepared to authorize payment from her credit card over the phone. The orginal recommendation by the Dr, was to have an X-ray, take lab work, fluids injected, and be sent home with meds for $394.00; my friend agreed to pay that amount, and my dog was brought to the back to receive these services. When they brought my dog back out, they said that they didn't feel that they needed to do the lab work after all, and only charged $317.00, and told me to give my dog meds for 8 days. They ended up shorting me on the meds given, which only lasted 3 days, and by the next Saturday my dog was sick again. I called and spoke to the receptionist, she first insisted that they gave me enough medication, and i insisted that my dog would've been on them the full 8 days and would not be sick again. They gave me more than enough medication for another 8 day cycle for free. My dog received the next cycle of meds for a full 8 days, and a day or so after (2 1/2 weeks after initial exam) my dog finished this cycle of meds & my dog was sick again. I called and spoke to the receptionist again, and I asked her why they were not thorough the first time they examined my dog, and didn't perform the lab work as promised (especially when I said I couldn't afford to pay [or return] for care). The receptionists response was "they didn't feel it was necessary at the time." I exclaimed "but now my dog is still sick, and you had the authorization from my friend to pay for the lab work during the last visit, why weren't you thorough?" The receptionist responded "if you really wanted the lab work done, you could have requested it," I argued "you are the professionals; I was trusting your recommendations, yet now my dog is still sick, and I no longer have my friend's authorization to pay." I asked the receptionist if my dog could be seen again, and I was okay with paying for the lab work, but could she please waive the exam fee (which I felt was a resonable request, since the lab work was supposed to be done on the previous visit), and she refused to waive the exam fee. My dog would be sick off and on, and just when I thought I should take him to see a new vet, he would appear fine and playful, was eating normal. I ended up having to take my dog to another veterinary clinic four weeks later when the problem persisted, and ended up having to pay another $351.00, which ended up costing my friend and I (who was generous and kind enough to do me a huge favor, and I now owe her more money) a grand total of $668.00, when it should have costed only $394.00 during the first visit at Route 66, along with my dog not being sick for an extended four weeks!
