The vets are good and our dogs have been “clients” for about 6 years. However, we’ve had two negative experiences: - some time ago an older lady at the front desk was rude to me and my two daughters while we waited to be brought to the back to have our dog seen. Since then I never returned. - a few months ago my wife bought a so-called “puppy pack” which she was told included the spay and neuter for our male and female puppies. After paying the blood work ($125 total) today she was charged another ~$600. Beware from shady business practices and nasty people. Read Less

Hands down, the best veterinary services we have ever received and they are reasonably priced too! The office staff are friendly and helpful, the vet techs are patient and understanding, and Dr. Schott is extremely knowledagle and kind! You can tell that everyone who works there truly understands and loves dogs and never once made us feel judged that our dogs prefer their family over strangers (our dogs have extreme vet anxiety). I have had great experiences with them. Everyone is very polite and you can really tell they care about the animals they treat as well as the families. They were even understanding when I got panicked and started asking questions or suggesting things that I've heard other animals have needed. Dr. Schott took the time to explain why she was suggesting the treatment she thought was best. She made me feel very confident in her choices while also calming me down with her understanding compassion. They have been very helpful getting us in for emergency visits quickly and even let us come by in the evening, when they were super busy and getting ready to close, to let us visit our cat who had to stay with them for a few days. Best clinic I've decided to take my dog to. Took my dog here when he caught parvo, and they helped me so much! My dog is currently needing surgery on his knee and of course I took him here. Dr. Conley has always been the best to my little girl. She's treated and/or diagnosed her anal gland ruptures, two ACL repairs and two eye ulcers.  She's gentle and I feel like she treats my baby as if she were her own.  There is not another doctor in town that I would recommend more than Dr. Conley at Sandia Animal Clinic. I love this clinc!!!  My husky ate fertilizer and the vets at this clinic were fabulous, they took extra care of my dog and gave him alot of love while he was recovering. The office staff were great and vet welcoming,  friendly,  and very helpful.   Prices were great and not as expensive as other clinics.  I highly recommend this clinic, Dr. Conley and her staff will take extra care of your fur babies. Excellent care- Good Staff- Dr. Elliot is a great vet- Same day Appointment-- Short Waiting Time-- She saved a bad tooth at a reasonable price. Accepts paperwork from other vets--clean office--Obvious love for animals You go in with the dog, and you can watch the whole exam and lab work on the pet. The clinic is clean, the staff is friendly and knowledgable. The other customers are friendly and laid back, and the customers control their pets. I've to a few in Albuquerque where this was not true. They accept paperwork from other vets instead of making the dog and wallet suffer. I was happy to transfer the care of my 2 coonhounds to Sandia Animal Clinic. Read Less

Not sure how to rate the Clinic.  Will start by saying I MISS Dr. Cudney.  He was a great, old-fashioned vet.  And, I miss Betty who worked in the office.  Its not the same.  Today I went in to pick up a prescription for our dog.  Its an NSAID.  I wanted to talk to a vet about the affects of the drug since I have read unfavorable information on their use.  Just wanted to make sure my dog would be OK.  The woman in the office acted like I was attacking them.  I found her actions and the way she talked to me offensive.  I care about my pet.  We have decided to find a new vet.  The place is just not the same. LOVE love it here, they are always so sweet to my baby. And they always remember who we are when we walk in the door, every time someone passes by my dog they pet her and talk sweet to her. I've been using Sandia Animal Clinic, and Dr. Robert Cudney has been our vet since ~1978. It is now 2014. My experiences have been good. Dr. Cudney is an excellent vet surgeon, and I've never had any trouble with him or with his bills. (Vets have to live, too!) Now, Dr. Consuelo Conley who is recently out of vet school, owns this clinic. She is personable, capable, recently trained, and devoted to the animals and in my experience knowledgeable with the most current vet practices and surgeries. I am very pleased with all of the vets Dr. Cudney has had in his practice. True, the waiting room is small and probably not the best, but no matter. It's always clean and neat, and I just care that my pets get the best treatment. Dr. Cudney and Dr. Conley both have returned my calls promptly and been comfortable explaining things to me. Dr Conley SAVED my daughter's cat's life! Another vet told us she had to be put to sleep immediately. But Dr. Conley, who's very sharp and very kind, put the cat on an IV fluid wash. She's been fine ever since! Dr. Cudney saved our Collie. Her uterus was septic. I had no idea what was wrong with her. He did emergency surgery and she lived until a 13, when he diagnosed lymphoma. He could have done hundreds of dollars worth of tests to confirm it, but I knew I was dealing with a very experienced doctor who knew what he was talking about. A month later, it was obvious even to me it was lymphoma. It turns out these are the only 2 vets I've dealt with at Sandia. They have at least one more--we've just never been there when she's there. Today was an extremely hard day and I know that the staff faces these circumstances often. Every single employee in that office was so compassionate and supportive through decisions we face. They did everything they could to make my visit as comfortable and tried their all to save my family member. I don't think I've could have walked out that door today without them. The doctors and staff comforted me with hugs, and Even the receptionist came to my car and brought me a water and tissues. My grandparents took their dogs here, my parents took our dogs here, we take are dogs here... they care and know what they're doing. Not an emergency pet hospital, so don't expect one, but a top-notch veterinary clinic for sure. For pet emergencies go to the VCA emergency center on Montgomery and Carlisle because that's what they do, but for your pet's general and non-emergency care Sandia Animal Clinic is the best. The only good thing I can say is that they were able to get my dog in on the same day I called otherwise I would say they are very robotic there! Dr. Horn showed no compassion for me or my dog. She never petted my dog to try to make her comfortable just jabbed her with with the thermometer and then her finger. She didn't tell me what/why she was doing! My daughter's mouth fell open at the sight of the whole thing!The staff are rude and make you feel rushed. They are overly expensive! I have an appt for another dog next week that I am going to cancel! She is a new puppy and I'm afraid they will traumatize her with their cold standoffish behavior! What a disappointment. After bringing our pets to Dr. Cudney for many years, we will definitely not be returning. Our pets are no longer getting the thorough exams and care they once did, and the hospital support staff is crude and unprofessional. The new veterinarian seems nice and the costs of treatments are still within reason, but we're afraid it just isn't worth the disappointment and frustration any longer. Read Less

Dr. Cudney has been working with my pets for 15 years. I have 2 dogs and a cat. Dr. Cudney has a small office, very personal and he knows his stuff. You won't find the newest, most updated office furniture and equipment, but you won't pay and arm and a leg for your visit either. Based on these reviews, I decided to take my 14 year old cat with a suspected tumor to see Dr. Horn. The very first thing that I noticed about Dr. Horn was that she didn't introduce herself or bother to ask my name or my cat's name or ask anything about him. Sure, she was very systematic during the examination, and I'm sure she's got lots of experience, but a vet has to comfort the owner as much as the pet- and I wasn't happy about that, either. I have never seen a vet draw a sample from the foreleg of a cat before (it's usually from the scruff of the neck)- I told her that he is very sensitive about his feet, so naturally, when she tried to grab his foot and stick a needle just above his paw, he panicked, got upset and had to be wrapped in a towel and held down by two techs. in what ended up being a very traumatic experience for all involved. One of the techs. even made the comment that my cat needed to be wrapped in a pink towel because he was acting like a little girl. What?! I was then ushered back into the waiting room for the results of the lab work (15 min.), where I waited for a half an hour because the techs. thought I had left. Not that they bothered to poke their head into the waiting room. I was then told by a tech.- ""oh his lab work is fine."" I guess I expected to go over the results with the vet, but apparently, she was having a bad day. I won't risk the chance that she might have another bad day when my cat has to go through surgery. I'll keep searching for a vet that is consistently compassionate- to pets and their owners. Read Less

Have used this place for routine care for over 4 years. They have become increasingly insensitive to animals and very task oriented. My small dog was treated very harshly at the last visit, and is now so scared of this place I will have to start over somewhere else. Their staff was aggressive and condescending. My Cats lower left front bottom tooth was sticking out 45 degrees forward. He was in a lot of pain, not eating or drinking, just moving his tongue was painful for him. After Sandia looked at it they scheduled him for 8am surgery. I picked him up at 1pm and he ate half a can of food went in the backward in the sun and bathed himself.
