I've been here 7 years, 3 animals, 6 occations to need pet care from sprained knee to spay to trauma, all Drs (especially Dr Hiese, but he's retired now)have been above average. Wow! I'm blown away by this place. I've tried a few vets in the past and all fell short. They truly cared about my animals it showed. First of all I was able to get an appointment within 2 days. When I got there I didn't wait long to be seen. The staff really took their time to make sure all my concerns were taken care of and I was well equipped to take care of my new puppy. After 17 years we had to let our Jack Russell Terrier, Mandy go. It was horrible to say the least, but Dr. Williams and Stephan were GREAT. They helped my wife and I out more than I can ever thank them for. They took great care of Mandy for 17 years and then helped us ease into what was best for her. The vet was friendly and helpful in examining our newly adopted, 15 year old dog. The receptionist, however, was rude and took a condescending tone with me when I was confused about the billed charges and had questions. I had mistakenly thought the clinic was on the city's list of clinics providing free exams to new shelter adopted pets. I acknowledged it was my mistake and paid the fee without hesitation but the receptionist's blatant lack of customer service skills was enough to make me not want to return to this clinic. An experience with a new clinic begins from the moment you walk in the door through checkout. I hope to find a place that not only offers good service to it's furry clientele but to it's paying customers as well. St. Francis is not that place. Read Less

The best experience I've had with vet clinics in years! Dr. Santana and Dr. Williams are two of the best vets I've ever met. They take their time with your pet. They treat your pet with care and take the time to explain (in detail) what is wrong with your pet. They discuss options and help you make the best decision for the health of your pet and prices are more affordable compared to other clinics. I have been taking my dog here to see Dr. Heiss for 6 years and have always been happy with him. Now that Dr. Heiss has retired the cost of my dog's visit tripled. I've only ever been charged for his shots but suddenly I was charged for shots plus an additional $44.00 for an exam. Had I known that would be the case I would have had him exam more than his heartbeat and mouth. Sadly I won't return. Read Less

A friend recommend that we take our new pup here. I called to make an appointment and the staff could not tell me when they would be open, they currently don't have standard hours??? The person I talked to on the phone made it seem like it was my problem for wanting to make an appointment to be seen in the middle of the week during the day and they could not accommodate that because they were unsure if they would have a doctor!Too many obstacles for me to just make a appointment, I think I will try someone that wants to accommodate me and my pets! I had brought my dog in after waiting a month for this visit for vomiting regularly. I waited two hours after my appointment from 3:30-5:30 and the vet ended up seeing my dog in the waiting room. She checked his teeth and then his heart. That's it. I left with my paper and medication instructions only to find there were no instructions included. When I called the next morning, I was promised a call back for instructions. Never happened. My husband called just now (2 days later) and the man at the desk asked him, "Do you want me to help you?" As if threatening he would not. My husband only had time to ask if they had called or not - and I can honestly say, he was not rude in any way. He then proceeded to say he called but did not leave a message. Really? Because my phone has literally never missed logging a call before and I don't see a missed call log right now. We have a feeling they are not looking out for the best interest of my dog, who may have organ failure. I have been waiting to start his treatment because of these people. I am the owner of two businesses and we will NEVER be returning after two years of coming to this vet. Read Less

After seeing the good reviews and being recommended by friends, this was hardly the experience we were expecting. Our cat needed a physical, but we also wanted them to check out her teeth. The veterinarian we were booked with -- Vikki -- took a quick glance, gave a diagnosis of stomatitis, then refused to do anything else. She was literally shoving our cat back in the kennel before we could even ask her to, you know, check out the rest of her body? Pulse? Breathing? Take her weight? All that other common sense stuff? When we brought that up, she just said, "No, it's stomatitis." The only thing we got out of our $50 visit was some antibiotics, which to her credit helps a bit. But she wouldn't even give a referral to a dental specialist after saying that's who we needed to go to next. Vikki was rude, didn't want to do her job, rushed us out as quickly as possible, and basically took us for granted as customers. For $50, we got a lot more information on our cat's condition at Eubank Animal Clinic and were treated far better. Read Less

My cat got an infection in a bite wound that he acquired on his ear. It didn't seem real serious, but it smelled very bad so I brought him in to St. Francis Animal Clinic to get checked out and ensure it didn't develop into a problem.The facility is clean and comfortable. All of the staff were friendly, attentive, and competent. We had an appointment for 2:00 and were seen right at 2:00. The vet was thorough and caring and I felt comfortable with my cat in her care. My cat was comfortable with the Dr. right away, as well. She identified the problem, addressed it, and also did a quick general check up. We were in and out of there in around 30 minutes total and felt really good with the whole experience. I'm going to make an appointment for my other cat to update her rabies vaccine next week. St. Francis will become my primary vet care provider in Albuquerque.I would recommend this place for anyone seeking a caring, competent and fair health care provider for their pet. Read Less

About a week ago, my cat started pooping in the bathtub. She's a skin-and-bones calico, and lately she's been showing signs of her senility, wandering the house directionless, hanging out next to me, staring, meowing incessantly. She's been with me at least 17 years, one of a litter discovered in the basement of an abandoned house. We've probably lived in 17 different places over those years. Before I could get her fixed she got pregnant, and motherhood transformed her from a skittish fraidy cat to my best feline friend. Great mousehunter. Nothing but goodness in her heart. She's my girl. And now she's dying.The discovery of St Francis was an absolute Yelp find. I simply read the reviews, all of 'em. They generally stated a few basics: cheap, smelly and downright caring. The former and latter are totally true, and perhaps they're reading their reviews because I found the place to stink of air freshener, likely a cover-up for all of the waste various animals have blessed upon this abode over the years. The facility has that feel about it; many, many best friends have come and gone around here, it's a little worn, tattered and torn, in a good way. My veterinarian earned herself a gold star for her frank, honest and humane advice. Twiggy was indeed old. X-rays revealed arthritis in the spine, probably not too painful, yet. Very sad teeth. Blood work gave hopeful returns a couple days later, they called on a Saturday. I brought the cat back on Tuesday, we have monthly visits scheduled moving forward. Truth told, I've never, ever been satisfied with a vet visit before; there's always an upsell, always a precautionary test that wasn't necessary, always some burden on my conscience due to lack of care. Not here. These people were real and fair and they cared. And I've discovered that there's an upside to this whole dying thing: my five year-old will experience it. She hasn't seen death, yet. She loves the cat, and she's going to be sad, but she's going to grow up just a little bit more thanks to the inevitable. Read Less

Do not let the outside of the clinic make your decision. This is by far the best vet I have ever seen, and I have been across this nation with my pets.First, the smell when you open the door will be a dead giveaway on the quality of the location and the attention to detail. Even though this place boards animals, there is simply no smell and a pristine floor.This was both of my dogs' first visit, and unfortunately, Lola had diarrhea and had an accident all over the floor. Well, there is a reason that the place is so clean and smells so nice, and it is because they are ready at a moment's notice to clean. They took me straight back so as to: a) not get other animals sick, and b) offer comfort to me and my dogs. Let me tell you, I have never felt so comforted and so safe, and my dogs fed off of this positive energy.The vet, Dr. Lee, sat down on the floor with both of my dogs, thoroughly inspecting them, but not in a perfunctory or scientific fashion, but a blend of kindness, attention to detail, and frankly pure love for her craft and animals. I was looking for a kitty to adopt and a person I spoke to told me to check with St Francis because they knew one had been abandoned on the door step. I called them and was invited in to meet the kitty they took in and cared for. They named her Daisy. The clinic had done her spaying, shots, and chipping and then sent her home with me for free. The love of my life LOLA was very ill in April and May. I had been to several other practices here in Albuquerque. One practice lost Lola's labs, and had no record of my appointment or of Lola's visit. As Lola became sicker and stopped eating, playing with her ball and stopped greeting me with kisses and her howel of WELCOME, I became very concerned. My family took Lola to her appointment to the "other" vet where the staff were rude and the owner stated Lola might have cancer and that it was too late, but gave her medicine without clinical cause. After several appointments and not hearing back from the vet, Lola getting sicker and sicker, I panicked. Lola became so sick she was incontinent which she has never been. I called St. Francis at 10:00AM on a Saturday and was seen by Dr. Lee, DMV by 10:30 AM. I have to say the recieptionist was caring, pleasant and communicated my every question to Dr. Lee and was so very reasuring. When we got to the office, I could sense a calmness and in my mind if Lola was going to pass, I would feel I had done the best I could for my dearest friend and love of my life. Gladly, Lola has improved, her energy level is almost back to normal. I am once again receiving Howel greetings from Lola with even more jubilation then before. Be aware that as with people medicine, medical records are to be kept regarding our pets health. When a Vet looses blood labs as in our case, your special furry friend is not recieving the best care and without you there as their advocate you could loose your pet. I will continue to go to St. Francis and know that Lola will be treated with the dignity and respect every pet deserves. Read Less

I have owned dogs all of my life and I'm a animal lover. I have been to the big vet groups and not one seemed that they were as interested in my pet as they were my wallet. This clinic is different and they do care more about the pet than any other I have been too. THe older vet is fabulous with my little friend and the assistants are great. Never am I sold unnecessary treatments but they do keep me up to date on the potential problems. That's not overselling, that's information Mt little friend actually loves the vet and doesn't have to forced inside. They do care about the pet and the expense. They are truly the best and I would not trade them for nothing. They can board animals too and it's the cheapest place to board. St. Francis is just all around there for animals. We love them. After getting unnecessary treatment and a bill for a huge amount on a little dog i found in the dumpster. I went to St Francis and we were given wonderful care and walked out paying very little. We visited St. Francis after one of our cats hurt her paw. I'm always nervous about taking our animals to the vet for minor problems, since it had always meant a huge bill. Dr. Cage examined our cat, and she was awesome! Super nice, professional, and kind to our cat. I was concerned since our cat is behind on shots, but Dr. Cage addressed the problem without any pressure to have any additional (unnecessary) services done and was totally nonjudgmental. I was relieved and surprised that our vet visit plus antibiotics cost less than just an examination by our previous vet! Thanks to the wonderful staff at St. Francis and the affordable prices, I look forward to bringing the rest of our animals in for any services they may need! Thank you St. Francis! Read Less
