She was very thorough and took as much time is needed to explain what she was doing and why she was doing it. She has become my favorite vet in spite of the fact I've only seen her once. My cat all of a sudden one night had hard time standing or walking on his back legs next day 8am in pouring rain I went to my normal vet they turned me away couldn't fit me in no openings I said was emergency they told me to try other places went 2 more places they turn me away this point my poor cat was getting worst I call Colonie animal hospital they did everything to get me in that day I was si happy and I never been there . The staff was awesome and care and dedication they showed my cat meant alot they were honest and show me the cost of everything before they started that was a plus my cat got treatment when checking out my cat got sick I got so upset and they explained why he did then they called me later on to check on me i left as little upset  they wanted to make sure I made it home that was very nice they go out of there way to make sure I made it home so I'm switching over to them ...I recommend bringing your pets there for honest and trusting service they have it I will not bring my cats any were else if it weren't for them squeezing my cat in that day I probably won't have him with me tonight ...they really care about animals Read Less

5 stars. They are very caring, helpful not to mention they go way out of there way to help our family (dog) as well as me bringing in my bullmastiff. He weighs more than me.😂😂 We ended up coming here after a bad experience with 2 vets that butchered my girl having her fixed, and incompetent people through petsmart. I truly hate to say bad things about others but they broke my girls tail after a spa day, denied it and didn’t care. That ruined her from bath times. My male had his nails cut all to short, excessive bleeding. Once we came here they both fell in love with the staff. They both actually looked forward to coming here. Whereas before they would shake. Everyone of the staff treats them as if they were their own. They helped with picking out a very nice package for our girl when she passed plus her toe prints. I am ever so grateful for every one there. So friendly and so caring. I’ve seen other wonderful vets but this is our home. Dr. Kinne and Dr. Koren-Roth are the most knowledgeable and compassionate Vets in the area! The whole staff follows suit! Treating my pets as if their own. Lots of attention comfort and care. My Luna was hospitalised not too long ago, cage stocked with warm soft blankets 5 different types of food left for her to choose from, friendly hugs and kisses and several potty outings all day long. 5 star rating! On Thursday April 27th at 2:30 my sister and I took our dog Mogwai in for a possible ruptured anal gland which has happened to her in the past so we have been through this before. Upon examination they printed out a treatment estimate and waiver which neither of us signed or approved of before they took Mogwai back, shaved her backside and expressed her glands-even though I informed them they were already emptied by myself just a few hours prior as I have worked in the veterinarian field and am a dog groomer. We were there to get her anti-biotics and pain medication. They brought her back in the room covered in blood and gland secretion. When they were questioned on why they did that without signed permission they had no answer to give us. When they were asked about the 'wound cleaning' charge they told us they washed her with anti-bacterial soap (even though she came back in the room covered in blood). They also accused us of simply not wanting to pay when we assured them we had no intention of not paying we just didn't give signed approval for what they did. At this point our dog is in worse shape than she was when we brought her in. Her backside is bloody, swollen and red all over and is clearly very uncomfortable and in pain. They should of never done anything without the waiver being signed. I am completely shocked by what happened to our poor Mogwai and by the way we were treated. Read Less

I brought our puppy here at about 6 months when she got a bout of diarrhea and we were not thrilled with the care at the vet we normally used for our cats. Both Dr. Kinne and Dr. Korin-Roth are excellent doctors and really care about my pets. I had my puppy in my lap and Dr. Korin-Roth started to do the exam right there instead of putting her on the table to avoid her being scared! My dog ended up being comfortable on the table, and I attribute that to how wonderful and comforting the staff and doctors are. I even recommended my mother switch to them! Read Less

I took my cat in for a sedated grooming (he's a long haired cat and it gets badly matted, I usually go to another vet but I'm moving out of the area and there weren't any openings until after the move) Not only did it cost me nearly $400 - almost double the amount at my usual vet, but he has knicks all over his belly and under his arms from the clippers. It looks like they rushed through the procedure and didn't take any care trying not to scratch the skin (they didn't even give him a full lion cut - they left almost his entire upper half unshaved). He usually loves having his belly rubbed and now it bothers him when I try to go near there. Save your money and take your pet to Parkside on Morton ave. Theyre cheaper and do a much better and more caring job. Read Less

I took my dogs to this practice for more than 15 years.  That's a long time!  But the quality of the care was always totally dependent on which vet you got or specified.  Over the years, I learned which Vets were good and who was not. To make a very long story short, the good ones are gone and so am I. There is one arrogant male Vet still there, who while an excellent diagnostician, makes his treatment decisions based primarily on what is best for his bottom line. He over vaccinates, prescribes pricey food he sells.  Time and again, I found he chose the most expensive treatment.....for example when a generic antibiotic costing $1-2/day was an option, he would push for a $5/day option.  Same with arthritis meds....bypassing simple enteric coated aspirin to start treatment with a pricey anti inflammatory agent with a serious side effect profile.  I left this group after my 2 favorite vets simply vanished and no one would tell me where they went. As fate would have it, I ultimately found both good Vets and now drive many miles (going past this hideous yellow building ) to see them.  Unless you want to pay for this guy's new BMW, STAY AWAY from this place.......there are better, more caring, less pricey practices in the area. I highly recommend this practice to anyone in search of veterinary care for your pet.  They're professional and highly competent.   Our dog responds well to their gentle approach.  Needs are closely tracked (was prepared for a heart worm test at his most recent appointment but were told because we decided to give him medication throughout the year, it wouldn't be needed for another year).  Bottom line, they provide great care. I would give zero stars but years ago when this hospital was owned by a different party and different doctors were there, they treated our pug for pneumonia and did a wonderful job.  Fast forward to now and I would sue this place for malpractice if I could.  The quality of staff and service has steadily declined over the years.  The place always seems a bit dingy and under-cleaned.  More disturbingly, we had an incident where they flip-flopped which of our dogs got which shots in their records and had to be corrected.  Finally, they misdiagnosed both of our dogs.  A couple examples:  they told us our pug's ear problems and black ick in his ears were a result of our not cleaning them frequently enough and that a growth on our puggle's hindquarters was merely an abscess and would come and go.  They said these things at multiple visits.  When we finally switched vets, we learned our pug had a chronic yeast infection in his ears that required medication and that the simple abscess was in fact cancer.  And we learned both of these things within five minutes of our first visit at a new vet.  Versus years at Colonie Animal Hospital and multiple discussions about these very issues.  Their prices may be less than other places (and really not by much) but their quality of service is nonexistent.  If you care for your dog and expect anything other than occasional shots in a dirty office DO NOT GO HERE. Took 1 of my dogs in 3 different times to have a lump looked at. Was told "probably an abscess, not a big deal". Turns out it is cancer, which a quick biopsy and look under a microscope by a different vet determined. I only hope the 1 1/2yr delay hasn't made it too late. My other dog has had black discharge from his ears for over 2yr. Was told it was wax build-up and I wasn't cleaning them enough. Turns out it is a yeast infection. He's now deaf. If these were people I would be suing for malpractice. Read Less

I moved back into the area a couple weeks ago. I called Colonie AH and asked how much it would be for a dental cleaning. The woman said $200 and I verified to make sure that was for everything, including anesthesia. She said yes and I made a consultation appointment.I went in the next day early so I could fill out paperwork. The staff was quiet and overall unpleasant. I waited for ten minutes and then went back. The vet tech followed me into the room and began to assess my dog, she was very nice.A few minutes later the vet came in. Almost immediately he tried to convince me to get vaccinations now as opposed to when they were due, as well as some additional ones. He then checked out my dogs teeth. I mentioned the price I was told and he said that it would be much more and that he didn't know why anyone would tell me $200. I asked how much it would be and he said they would write me up an estimate. He then tried to push on some flea treatments even though my dog was already wearing a Seresto collar, which they sell.He then gave me a quote for $583. And I was charged a $50 office fee. At this point I just want to leave because the only reason I went to that vet was because their staff quoted me $200. I stood at the counter while the two women just typed away without looking at me. After two minutes I asked if I could pay and one said yes. I gave her the money and she gave me my receipt.Later that day I came across Boght Veterinary Clinic. $200 for dental not including extractions. I made a consultation appointment. The staff was extremely friendly, including the vet. She was very honest and explained that I didn't even need a cleaning for my dog for at least another year.The vet at Colonie AH didn't say anything like that and would've just taken my money. My family has used this vet for all of our dogs for 20+ years. The staff is very knowledgeable and they are definitely well priced compared to other vets in the area. The staff is very friendly and they are always super helpful with anything you may need. The building doesn't look that great from the outside but inside is very clean and nice. Long time customer, My dogs doctor left this hospital. The new doctor that was going to take over would not refill my dogs prescription without the additional costs of bringing my dog in for tests that I could not afford. I agree with the last reviewer to the extent that the place is "kind of gross".  The doctors and staff are pretty nice (I was there 3x).  The biggest problem is the look & smell of the place.  Also, while I was waiting for my appointment, which was scheduled (they were clearly over booked that day)  an assistant came and checked my dog in the packed waiting room rather than give us a room.......even if it was a follow-up visit.  Lastly, the staff, although nice, could care less what goes on in the tiny waiting room.  When I was waiting for my scheduled appointment, a man with a very nervous German Shepard came in.  His dog would not stop barking or trying to lung toward other dogs.  The staff saw this, but did nothing.  I'm sure the man could have stepped outside until they had a room for him, which I suggested, and then the man and I got into a verbal back and forth.  I should not have been the one to suggest it, the staff should have.  The dog was clearly nervous and unruly.  So, in the end, you get what you pay.  I will definitely pay a little more for better service. I went to the most wonderful Vet today!!! It's called Colonie Animal Hospital and Dr. Newman is the most efficeint, gentle, intellegent, and rational Vet that I have ever encountered. Carmine does have ellavated liver enzymes, but only one kind, all the others are pretty much okay. He gave me a liquid anti-bioctic and told me it was okay to keep cleaning his ears!!! No drama - no injections - no going to the vet every day - (the way Central Vet made it sound life threatening - and charged me for emergency care as well - like last time with Pede-O). If Carmine doesn't act sick, we call in 10 days and have one specific blood test done on his liver and take it from there. The staff were all completely friendly and happy - there is even a woman that looks exactly like "Rachel" from "Friends" - I'm so much more relaxed and confindent. I trust Dr. Newman completely - and trust doesn't come easy for me. If you click on Central Vet Hosp - 388 Central Ave - Albany - you will see the review I wrote on them I filed a formal complaint and they are under investigation. They abandoned my cat in mid treatment and treated both my cat and me like we weren't good enough to be at their facility. Hopefull Donna Strovi loses her license and gets a huge fine along with Central Vet. Colonie Animal Hospital are the most efficient, gentle, caring, intellegent, and rational animal care I have ever encountered. I would definitley recommend bring your critter there - they even take care of birds and reptiles. (and the front desk chic look just like "Rachel" from the show "Friends" !!! Read Less
