On Monday night, I was faced with a literally screaming dog, when I got home from dinner out. We couldn't tell what he was so upset about but he wouldn't let my family members touch him. This is completely terrifying as a pet owner. Something is wrong, but my dog looked okay. Of course I feared the worst, and since our usual vet office was closed for the evening, we set out for the closest emergency vet location. I saw this office on my drive to my sister's house in Clarence, from a Yelp event ironically. When we pulled in, there were no other patients waiting. The receptionist was okay. Kind of brusque and didn't seem too caring, an unusual trait for someone working in an emergency facility. Filled out paper work, waited to see vet. The facility itself is really nice, new, clean. Saw the vet tech first who had a feeling that my dog's issue was with his stomach. Does he eat things he shouldn't? Yes, actually. So I was even more alarmed. I had told her that I thought something was wrong with his gait in his front legs. He seemed to be limping a bit. Not like him. Would have made sense to be the source of his pain if he had jumped off of the couch to greet whomever, when the front door opened. She still seemed convinced that it was his stomach.Vet came in, pushed around on his stomach, could feel nothing wrong and he never yelped in pain. I told her about his limping. The odd thing to me was that they never looked at his front paws or his arms at all. Never checked his shoulders or collar bone. Kind of odd. The vet did suggest that he could have a soft tissue injury, like a muscle pull, and in that case they would probably just treat him with pain meds. They offered us the option of an x-ray (they'd have to sedate him) or pain meds and follow up with normal vet. Since pup was relatively calm by this point, I chose pain meds for him. He got an injection of buprenol and rimadyl to take home. Our regular vet (All Creatures in East Amherst) called us the next morning for follow up. Pup is okay and seems to have gotten better over the course of the week. I'm thinking it was in fact a soft tissue injury, like a muscle pull. This clinic never called to follow up, which is a little strange to me, but I guess they just let the regular vet do that. I've had experience with an emergency vet clinic in Wheat Ridge, CO with this same dog for a different issue. The service they offered, versus this clinic, seemed warmer. Perhaps I overreacted to my pup's insane reaction to something (pain), but it's better to be safe than sorry. I hope to never have to come back here (please God!) but if another emergency comes up, I will consider them again. They're A-OK. Read Less
