We have taken our pets here over the past 25 years. They are wonderful. The staff is friendly and helpful and the Drs. are knowledgeable and compassionate. It doesn't matter what service you need, they do everything to the best of their ability. They cried with us when our dogs had to be put to sleep and sent us handwritten sympathy cards. Years ago I took an elder cat here to get a check up and to see why he was not feeling well period after x-rays they had determined that he might have a massive tumor in his lower intestine period a few days later after they freak me out they took another X-ray and it was gone. One might think that it was a miracle, but in reality just turned out to be him storing up his fecal matter before he pooped it out. During his check-up they failed to notice one other thing that a week later I noticed that his I looked funny and when I took them in they could not diagnose what was going on with his eye. so I ended up taking him to a different doctor who determined that a tumor was growing inside of his eye that was causing pressures Within that he was in danger of having his eye burst.$1,600 later I took home my one-eyed Kitty after taking him 2 an eye specialist. The fact that these veterinarians can't distinguish poop from a tumor or a tumor growing within an animal's eye is quite discerning. I cannot recommend anyone bringing their beloved pet to this place for even anything as routine as a check up! Read Less

They are amazing people!!! Extremely friendly, extremely knowledgeable and just overall good people. You can tell that they love pets and they treat your pet as of it is your own. Yesterday my boyfriend and I stopped in for our first puppy visit. We have morphed into crazy dog-parents so needless to say we had a long list of questions and were very nervous. However, we loved our experience at Blue Cross animal hospital. The building itself was easy to get in and out of (driving wise) and had a place outside for animals to relieve themselves with a cute hydrant. Once inside the staff was so nice and made us feel totally comfortable; they told us about their dogs and left their desk to pet our puppy Ike and shower him with gifts, love, and many, many, treats. They even asked me before they gave him treats if he could have them and if anyone was allergic to peanut butter in the family. Once we got into the real doctor visit our doctor was very kind, answered all of her questions and gently guided us toward the best path for taking care of our puppy. We didn't feel rushed or silly for asking so many questions. On the way out they even printed a copy of Ike's insurance claim so we wouldn't have to bring one each time and they could fax his claims for us! This will definitely be our choice of vet for Ike. The staff at Blue Cross are always caring and competent. Upon walking in, I am greeted by friendly receptionists who swoon over my pooch. The doctors have great communication skills and take the time to explain physical exam findings and why they are making certain recommendations. Also, I am pleased to hear that the staff has undergone extra steps to become a "cat friendly" hospital. My cat loves the soothing classical music, the soft mats, and the feliway plug ins. Both of my cats receive veterinary care at BCAH. All of the staff here have been fantastic, and they have done a great job of communicating throughout any treatment that the cats have had to have. I'd like to single out Dr. McCormick for being especially wonderful in making my cats feel comfortable during exams and treatments. I would unconditionally recommend BCAH for veterinary needs. If I could give less than 1 star I would. When I questioned an additional surgical procedure I was being asked to sign off on when dropping my puppy for neutering, I was told my husband requested it. That was a lie. They drained my cats lungs saying there was fluid on them before discussing options with me or asking permission. Then sent us home where the cat died overnight what seemed an agonizing death. I tried to seek assistance for a bunny suffering a broken leg, they refused to see him or refer us to someone that might help. The vet down the street treated him and pointed us to a rehabilition center that reintroduced him to the wild after healing. My dog needed some quick medical assistance and my new vet was on the other side of town. (I switched after the above mentioned issues) Blue Cross had me fax over his rabies certificate, then refused to treat him because they were not the ones that administered his last annual check up citing it as a violation of NYS law to see him. When questioned they could not cite specifically which law this was. It was this last exchange that prompted this review. Overall I found the doctors to be mostly proficient but the nurses and desk staff are atrocious. If someone in charge reads this- please put some time into training your staff. Read Less

I wish I cpuld give 0 stars. My older cat was very sick so I took him here while they did an xray. Dr said it was a mass and recommended I put him down. I took him home to sat goodbye to the kids and wait for my husband to get home from work. Took him back in where they prepped him - shaved his arm where the needle would go. My husband asked to look at the xray (he's not a dr...guess it was a gut feeling). The radiologist report said he was constipated. The Dr couldnt believe it. They kept him overnight and did an enema. That was a couple of years ago and he's still alive now! I was beyond furious. They didn't wait for the radiology report before diagnosing. DO NOT GO HERE! Read Less

I started coming here cuz my youngest fur baby's mama also goes here and Dr. Gurbacki takes care of the family. He is wonderful is Cali and all of the staff here are always so warm and welcoming! They have been life savers when it comes tome for nail trims with my Cali... she is a complete psycho when it comes to her nails. Although it takes a whole team to get it done, they are so great with her and Cali has been getting a little better each time. I came here on a recommendation from my neighbor. My dog was very sick, throwing up and could not keep anything down for a full 24 hours. Our then current vet (which was supposedly an emergency vet) told us they were double booked for days and to go somewhere else! We reluctantly called here, thinking this vet would too be "double booked" or even over-priced. They were nicer than any vet I have ever been to and so accommodating! The receptionist politely asked what was wrong and took down all our info-and then proceeded to call us back with an immediate opening-which was not expected as we were anticipating having to wait several hours to be seen. When we arrived, everyone and I mean EVERYONE inside greeted us with such a pleasant and upbeat attitude. They took us inside a room almost instantly and checked out the pup-"Einstein". Before doing any procedure or giving any medication, they explained what they were going to do, why, and the cost. When they explained the cost without us asking, I was blown away. Our old vet guilt tripped you into doing anything they said and made you feel terrible for worrying about what it would cost. I was not embarrassed to be asking about prices or other cheaper alternatives. I love my dog but I don't agree with throwing money out the window on nonsense. They definitely don't make you do that or feel that way here! They provided Einstein with amazing care and treated us with the upmost respect. I won't be going anywhere near my old vet-I will be coming here forever now! They even called the next morning to check up and see how he was doing. I am still blown away by the amazing service here! I went today to take my kitty cookie to the vet for the first time and I have to say was the best experience ever. Everyone there was so friendly and compassionate and everything was explained very well on what procedure was being done things like that. They had taken care of my 3 Saint Bernard's Ike, Mac and Rufus. Now they are taking care of my English bulldog Katie. The vet tech's actually fight over who is going to do my dog's anal glands? I received unfortunate news at this clinic today and was stuck with the hardest decision of my life in which I had to put my beautiful baby Chewy at rest. This is the hardest thing I have yet to go and from the bottom of my forever broken heart, I just want to SINCERELY THANK the staff at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital for being so compassionate and understanding, and willing to go above and beyond to support me in the my most torn moments. I had spent the night at a Emergency Vet and did not have a pleasant experience at all and felt my dog was just another number. One of the best vets in Buffalo. Unfortunately I moved out of Amherst, but my cats were treated so well. I highly recommend them to anyone. The staff and doctors are amazing. Horrible place. My dog was dizzy and fell, they diagnosed to with vestivular illness. When she wasn't getting better, I took her back. Same diagnosis. When she was shivering and panting, i called for another appt. No, said she didn't need one. Called again for pain, on a Friday afternoon, vet did not return any calls, at least 3x Saturday, took my dog out and when she came in was paralyzed in her hind legs, tongue and gums were blue and she was in obvious distress. Rushed her in to emergengy clinic where they put her to sleep. I called Monday, said she died, got not so much as as I'm sorrry, when i requested her records, two pages were missing and they refused to give them to me. Do not go here. Read Less

This is by far the best vet experience we have ever had. The vets and assistants are the friendliest, kindest most caring people! From the day we got our dog Rocko they took are of him, and always got us in for an appointment even if they were booked. We cannot say enough positive words about the kind staff and knowledgeable doctors at this office. We bring our two dogs and cats here and they always fix them right up. Dr. Gorbacki is excellent. He very quickly diagnosed a life threatening blockage in our year old cat and helped us make the decisons to save it's little life while being patient and understanding (we were in tears and he was very kind). The staff genuinely care about their clients, both animals and people. They always call after emergency visits to see how our pets are doing on treatment. Please, if you take your pet here consider donating a few bucks to their emergency animal care fund, which is used to help people with unexpected costs of treatment. From the moment you call, they are incredibly welcoming and pleasant. The staff clearly love animals and take the time to welcome you and you pet when you get to the room. The service was very fast and they perform in house fecal sampling for expedience. Doctors are knowledgable and I left well informed about the treatment. Took my puppy Khoie here (8/14/15) after she experience a terrible seizure. The staff super friendly and helpful when I called to bring her here for the first time(which I was shock cause the Vet that I take my other dogs to wasn't able to get her in until next week). Dr. Brown is the best.. he put my family at ease with our concerns regarding our little baby. He didn't do like most vets do which is have you go thru all those expensive tests and medicine that has no need for her condition. I had such a good feeling and experience there that now my other two dogs will be going there...I will suggest this place to all my pet lovers...plus the price was reasonable(bonus) in book...Read Less

If I had the option to give zero stars I would. If you care about your pet - don't take them here. I have known now more than four animals that have suffered - at the mercy of this awful establishment that worries more about money and covering their own backs than about the animals being treated.  I will tell everyone and anyone I know to never EVER take their pets here.  They should have their license taken away. In the fall of 2013 I had a baby, I picked him up at 9 weeks old. He small, he was floppy and he was mine. When I made the announcement the month before I had asked my friends where to go and based upon their personal experience and our friendship with former Doctor Ann Tierney I came here.Since I started coming here Dr. Ann has moved on but I am happy enough with their service to stay. The office is small and well layed out, upon walking in you'll see the reception area and Avenger (my pug) and I have always been greeted by the staff, Avenger even runs to the door so he knows that this is a safe place. They have four exams room and I have never seen this place overly crowded with people or pets.All of the staff here are super friendly and really talk to you to try and understand what is going on, either with an unexpected illness or talk to you about their annual well visits and make sure to talk you through the modern pet medicines to keep our animals healthy and happy. They are also reasonable and understanding when you say "I need to limit xx vaccines this trip" they are wiling to work with you to have a follow-up appointment to have their shots taken care of.Also I have always had a Vet and assistant in the room and they don't require you to do any of the dirty work so your pet doesn't get upset with you. they generally ask that you stay in view of your fur baby and help soothe them in the difficult moment of a shot or exam. I would note that at the bottom of the invoice it does say there is no billing option however they are also willing to work with you on payment. I would say pet medicine is much like people medicine, be prepared to be a good pet parent and make sure that pet ownership is in your budget. Read Less

I have decided to to switch vets, every time I go there they make me feel like I am not spending enough money on my pet. Doctor's Comments have been demeaning at times. They did two biopsies that they botched both times and charged me for both of them. Read Less

My husband and I have been very happy with this vet. Our puppy is very rambunctious and was there almost weekly for awhile there. My dog had an ongoing limp and in time with the testing they recommended, they figured out the diagnosis and recommended a great surgeon. She's good as new now. They were really nice and caring people. They were pretty cheap and knew what they where doing. My dog went in yesterday at around this time for surgery, and is already back home recovering. I have been taking my dog Kilo to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital for the last year. The staff is always extremely accommodating. My dog is very dog aggressive, so they make sure to clear out the front room when I bring her in. Last time I requested a tech come into the exam room for nail trimming to avoid running into other dogs in the back. Everytime I make a special request they are friendly and willing to accommodate my neurotic pet (and me sometimes). Dr. Donovan sits on the floor and allows my 80lb dog to sit on her lap and give her kisses. She is very thorough and takes her time checking her out. I have never one felt overcharged, it is actually substantially cheaper than my last vet. My dog is my ''child'' and I want her to be taken care of by someone I trust. I feel that she is getting the absolute best care in Buffalo. Read Less

This is an exceptional veterinary hospital. I have been taking my dogs here since I moved to WNY 6 years ago. The staff has always been kind to me and my dogs. To say the vets and vet tech are competent would be vastly understating their abilities. Dr. Donovan and Dr. Hillegas provided a level of care for my very sick Golden that was so far above and beyond what is normally expected. The Doctors at this animal hospital have incredible foresight and take a very holistic approach to treatment. They don't request random unnecessary testing - trust me, I know, I have experience with vets that do this and Blue Cross Animal Hospital is not one of them. They have incredible humility and they treat their clients with the utmost respect. The treatment, care, attention and sincere kindness they have shown my dogs, and me, allowed my Hunter to have an amazing life far beyond what anyone could ever have expected. If it was not for Dr Brown I would not be a client at BCAH any longer. My mother had to euthanize her beloved 9 year old cat to acute kidney failure and she also owns the siblings. So we decided to have some blood work to make sure all was well with them. She asked specifically for the Dr who had put down her cat two days earlier when she made the apt. When we arrived that morning of the apt ( lugging two carriers and my 9 week old in a car seat) Not one person made a move to help us (my mother is physically handicapped to top it off) We check in, they bring us into the room and the girl who is taking the histories assumes we are there for vaccines. I explain that we lost the cat two days earlier to kidney failure will will NOT be vaccinating these two until we get the blood work results back. She tries again to talk us into vaccines. I explain I have been working in this business on and off for roughly 9 years and to stop asking about the vaccines as that is the LEAST of our worries atm. She leaves. The Dr Comes in, she is neither the Dr my mother asked for or Dr Brown who we usually see. When I ask why we are not seeing either of them she gets snippy and says Dr T is our of town and Dr Brown isnt available. She then also launches into why we need to vaccinate, I then get snotty right back and say stop asking about vaccines, we WILL NOT BE VACCINATING today. The assistant who is in the room is scared of cats, every time one of the cats she was holding moved she let go, when all they were doing was trying to get her to pet them they do not have a nasty bone in either one of their bodies or I would have held myself. They shaved my cats stomach with out asking to get urine, which they didnt get ( I understand its hit or miss with a cysto in kitties) and not 1 time did she say how sorry she was for my mothers loss or understand why we were only asking for bld work. I think she is unprofessional, and insensitive. I will be looking for a new clinic soon, and only continue going there for Dr B. I will say the nice girls at the desk did help us out with all of our cages and car seat, but at that point I had an awful taste in my mouth. So If you MUST go to BCAH, I recommend making sure you are going to see Dr Brown, or go else where. Read Less

They charged me 97 dollars for a topical ointment that I found at petsmart..same brand..same dosage for 40 dollars...THEY OVERBILLED ME 50 dollars for this stuff. They then refused to give me a refund when I brought it back unopened the following day. If you want to be overbilled go to this racket. I wash my cat twice a week in anti flea shampoo. I have not found any fleas on him...not on me..not on the couch..not in the drain after washing him...But in ten seconds the vet said he had fleas..I can see why when they are charging twice the market price for their medication... I researched for a good animal hospital for some time and one day someone recommended the Blue Cross Animal Hospital so I booked an appointment to my dog there. I was very satisfied with the dog care, the doctor was very friendly and nice and I did not feel that she was trying to find ways to get more money from me with useless procedures or trying to afraid me. The clinic also is open until late some days of the week what helps me to not miss my job to bring my dog there. I guess the main thing I am happiest with is they always look for a natural treatment before going directly to antibiotics and if you ask questions on the phone they are willing to answer you instead of charging you more money for that. I am very happy with the care that they are providing to my dog and recommend to anyone that is looking for a permanent veterinary. Read Less
