Drs. Glasser and Ordas are both great!  They clearly know what they are talking about (which, unfortunately isn't always the case with some vets) and they are never ones to run tests or do things just for the sake of it (again, unlike some vets).  The staff is always very helpful and seem to genuinely care about your pets' health.  As just one example, my wife and I are moving abroad and the entire staff has pitched in to make sure we have the most up-to-date information on travel restrictions, document requirements, etc.We have been taking our two pets to Steinway Court for several years and we wouldn't take them anywhere else in NYC. I could not in good conscience recommend this clinic to anyone. I live in this neighborhood and i grew up in queens and go to school in manhattan, so ive fairly warned all the people i know about my shocking and terrible experience i've had with them. They wanted to open her up when I suspected that it wasn't necessary and when my regular doctor took a look, he knew she wasn't a candidate for surgery. Glasser was rude and unsympathetic. Also be weary of the fake reviews that have no reviews prior to this and or only generated a review in the last couple days. Also note that that account that updated a "review 5 days ago" only had 1 review from 2015 prior to my review. I brought my dog daughter Keeko here on the recommendation of a friend. I had noticed swelling, redness and tenderness under her tail and was very worried. I called even before they were officially open and they told me to come on in. The office is very clean and the staff is very friendly. Dr. Glasser explained that Keeko had an anal sac infection that he could take care of and also took care of her teeth, which her previous vet didn't even mention when she went in 2 weeks before for her yearly exam and grooming. Dr. Glasser and his staff followed up with both email and phone calls and when had me pick up a new cone for Keeko when I mentioned I thought hers was too small. I am very happy that we came here ! Dr Glasser and his staff are beyond amazing and treat my baby Carmine as if he was their own. I always feel at ease when my dog is under their care. My dog has stomach issues (basically the dog version of IBS) so we have been a lot in the past 3 years since I've lived in Astoria. They always answer all my questions and Dr Glasser is compassionate about the well being of your pet and truly cares for your child(pet). Maddie was our 13 year old "princess," and this veterinary office took our in cat with open arms. My husband and I found Steinway Court Vets after another local vet dropped the ball with our beloved cat by cancelling several appointments even though she was quite ill. She had lost significant amount of weight, and she lost most of her energy among other horrible symptoms. Steinway set up an appointment for us right away (after we explained the dire situation) and it turned out she had a terminal disease. When we realized that Maddie wasn't going to get better (and we exhausted every effort we could), they guided us through the process of putting her to rest. The staff and vets were incredibly attentive when they interacted with Maddie and with us, and the vet who put her to sleep made sure she passed in my arms. They were respectful, gave us space when we needed it, and treated us in such a caring manner.It was a really difficult time in our lives, but the people in their office comforted us so much that it we that we can't thank them enough. After Maddy passed, they checked in with us and we received a card with their condolences. I couldn't have asked for better treatment and support from a veterinary staff. I am writing this review because it is difficult to find a guinea pig vet, let alone a good one. I brought my two pigs in to see Dr. Ordas and he was very knowledgeable about guinea pigs and great with handling them. I received my cat, Princess, in 2006. Ever since then, she has been extremely friendly and a joy to have. Then recently, she started peeing outside the litter box, meowing loudly at night, and overall frustrating to deal with. I went to Dr. Tadros for help and he conducted some tests, made a professional diagnosis, and preformed the appropriate surgery. He removed the cancer riddled uterus from my cat and gave me very good advice on how to handle my cat after surgery. This is our vet for our cats and will continue to be our vet. Our cats love him.He explains everything in detail if there is a problem so you leave knowing the treatment plan the options and why. They will fit you in same day if there is an emergency. The front desk staff is reassuring and professional. They follow up whenever a procedure is done to check on the cat and discuss any tests. They have any meds or special food on hand. And if you have pet insurance they will submit the claims for you for reimbursement. Read Less

Overall - warning!I visited Steinway Court Veterinary with my 2 year old Boxer for a small rash on his ears. Dr. Glasser explained that it was either from seasonal or food allergies. To help the rash, he gave me some ointment for irritation and recommended I buy Hill's Salmon & Potato. This food costs $98 per 25lb bag...I did my research and looked at the ingredients and was immediately suspicious. Why was he so firmly promoting this terrible brand?I read awful reviews about the food, and I also found this dog food comparison, which shows its actually one of the worst when it comes to ingredients.For example: cdn2.bigcommerce.com/ser…I did some more research and ended up getting rid of my Boxer's rash with Orijen Six Fish, which is not as expensive. It completely healed my dog's allergies. Following the visit, I also heard of numerous other patients being told Hill's would solve their pet's problems. I also ended up switching vets and now only visit Dr. Gapas at Animal Clinic of Long Island City. She only prescribes what is absolutely needed, and follows a more effective and holistic approach overall. Read Less

Dr. Glasser's bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. He seems like a smart man, but is quite curt. I brought my dog in for vomiting, which, while he couldn't pinpoint the cause, he was able to cure the symptoms. This location isn't cheap, but it also isn't the most expensive in the area.The oddest thing about my visit with Dr. Glasser was that he kept pushing me to have my dog's teeth extracted because it looked "unhealthy" and could be "a major problem" in the future. He was quite pushy and as I didn't feel comfortable, during my visit to an animal hospital (for a separate matter) I asked two different vets there on their thoughts on my dog's teeth and they said they were perfectly fine and advised me not to go back to the vet that unnecessarily recommended such a procedure.PROS: average price, curing the symptoms. Dr. Glasser and his staff have taken care of our pets for 20+ years, and have always been expert, open, honest, humane and sensible. They're great at medicine, they love animals, but they also care about people and their circumstances. The practice is warm and friendly, clean, crisp, very well-run, and satisfyingly digital -- if you need proof of bordetella vaccination by email because you need to board your dog in a hurry, they'll send it to you. They've gone quite far out of their way to help in occasional emergencies, as well (e.g., animal suddenly gets sick at the kennel while you're away on vacation and you need to coordinate remotely with kennel, caretakers/neighbors, and vet to get the dog transported, treated, and boarded comfortably during convalescence - these folks come through when stuff like that happens). Dr. Glasser left me with a sour taste in my mouth... I definitely won't be going back. After moving to Astoria last year, I brought my cat in for a routine check up. Dr. Glasser ordered WAY more tests than any other vet I have seen-- which of course he benefits from, since he has an in-house lab. When I had the audacity to ask what the tests were for, he talked down to me, laying down thick with the guilt trip. A few months later, I went to reorder my cat's heartworm medicine, which he has been taking regularly for years without issue. Dr. Glasser refused to authorize the prescription without (you guessed it) another test. I have never had a vet require this test before, so I did a little research and then told the doctor my cat's history with the medicine and that I wouldn't be bringing him in for a test. The doctor made me sign a "waiver" he made up that literally included the phrase "I fully understand the risks involved with such, the ultimate risk, being the death of my pet." I was appalled at this blatant guilt tripping just to get me to give my cat an unnecessary test, but I sent it in so I could get my cat his heartworm medicine. Dr Glasser is great and caring. I took my dog to him to have her teeth clean and he did a great job and everything is fine. He explained everything to me and even though I live in Long Island the office was understanding and accommodating to me and my pet. The were done on time and gave me enough time to pick her up. The price also that Dr Glasser charged was reasonable comparing to other doctors that were going to do the same procedure. Some Doctors take advantage of the situation. Read Less

One of few animal hospitals in NYC that treats exotic pets. I brought my baby turtle here in December 2011 when I lived in Queens...I had gotten her a few days before from a street vendor. She start sneezing and swimming sideways at home. Brought her here, and result of exam and xray was she had pneumonia. She received her treatment and is now a big girl almost 5 yrs old. I have been coming to this vet for about 8 years and every single time with hesitation but I've Always decided to return because it was the only vet my cat has known and that's what I thought was best until now. Dr. Glasser is completely insensitive, incapable of effective communication, lacks empathy and quite frankly he is a bully. I feel cares more for his paycheck rather than his patients or their owners. Would you appreciate your doctor walking into the room after numerous tests stating "well, we've got some major problems here ". I think most human beings would appreciate some sensitivity and decency to approach this situation differently. After THOUSANDS of dollars spent at this "veterinarian" for close to eight years, I've had it and recommended anyone else to maintain great distance if you care for your 4 legged loved ones and your own state of mind. To start my review, please ask for the cost of service before it is performed. I looked at yelp reviews to see that some people thought it was a little pricey. My jaw still hit the floor when I looked at the bill. The Pros: -They have Saturday hours. It was easy to get an appointment without much notice. -The staff is friendly-And the most important, this is by far the most extensive/detailed annual check-up our dog has ever had. The Cons:Expensive. For 8 years of annual check-ups, this is about twice the price of anywhere we have ever been. (That includes much more expensive neighborhoods, like Brooklyn Heights.) I believe our bill was $440. I wasn't expecting to see anything higher than $300, but I will certainty ask beforehand next time. In conclusion, I think this is a great place! I would absolutely trust him with any care for my dog. Just be aware of the prices. Read Less

Great vet! Took my cat in to deal with some vomiting issues. Not only was he able to see me quickly, I didn't have to wait more than 5min to have him examine my cat, they followed up with emails, and whenever I had a question, all I had to do was call and I got to talk with Dr. Glasser every time. They also helped set me up with a weight loss plan and feeding schedule (my cat is also overweight). And they gave me a detailed list of costs and options, so I never end up paying for something I don't want. If he was busy, he called me back promptly. Great experience. They run a good office. Called for an estimate for all vaccines, tests, and to get my kitten fixed. Literally wanted to know what it cost to get EVERYTHING. Was quoted $330 which seemed very fair. When I get there the next morning, they show me that it's $540 for the first trip and another $90 when I come back for the 2nd round of vaccines and the stitch removal. The staff was friendly, Dr. Glasser treated my cat with the utmost care and professionalism, but I will say I felt taken advantage of when I left. They knew we were coming there based on the estimate for EVERYTHING, because it was slightly cheaper then the other vets we had contacted. When I complained about the price, they guilted me by asking "Don't you want the best care for your animal?" In my opinion, you just shouldn't give estimates at all if it's not even going to be close to the actual price, because people will feel cheated.Read Less

Dr. Glasser was my vet 15 years ago, so when I adopted a new dog and she needed heartworm meds and an exam, I took her there without a second thought. He'd always been kind to my previous dog and I received great service and I had no reason to believe he'd changed. I was very happy to find out I was right. When I adopted my dog I was told she'd had "moderate tarter" by the ASPCA, which I knew had to be taken care of, but Dr. Glasser diagnosed her with advanced periodontal disease. Which, I knew from experience, was no laughing matter. The x-rays and photos proved his diagnosis correct. (My first visit to Dr. Glasser 15 years ago was with a pet who had the exact same issue, and was very, very ill because of it). She would need a dental scaling, cleaning and extractions ASAP. He considered it very critical. Dr. Glasser went above and beyond the call of duty to help me find financing for the procedure, explained every step of the procedure to me, and treated me and my pet with concern and professionalism. My baby came out no worse for wear, missing a few teeth (I now call her snaggle tooth) and with a healthy mouth. Dr. Glasser explained how to clean my pets teeth at home and some methods to acclimate a skittish dog to a toothbrush, and his staff explained the antibiotic and pain med dosage. They also called the next day to check on her. All in all I was very happy with my experience and will be bringing my pet to him on a regular basis. And let me just add that if the Doctor seems to "preach" to you about pet dental health, it's for a reason. 15 years ago I brought the family dog to him who was deathly ill with a severe digestive infection because of her teeth. At the time neither I nor my family knew anything about pet dental health, and she almost died because of it. Thanks to Dr. Glasser, she lived then and my current pet is happy and healthy now. I now know better and take my pet's dental health just as seriously, if not more so, than my own!Read Less
