I had a cat that was losing weight fast. Her rear legs swayed when she walked. Took her to this vet just after she bought the business from Doc Smith and I knew the staff well. Prior to me taking this sick cat into see her I had another cat there. The staff told me that they disliked how the new vet pull at the heart strings of their clients falsely telling them they need more testing than really need. When I took my cat in that was losing weight she stuck a need in her abdomen and sucked out some fluid and told me she thought she had caner. I was shocked and taken back. I asked what could be done. This was on a Thursday and she said she'd like to keep her overnight and told me she was going to push some fluids in her and was going to get xrays. I called the next day before picking my cat up to see what I owed on the bill. I was almost fell to the floor when they told me I owed $700 plus. She performed numerous tests that I hadn't authorized. I went and picked up my cat and told them I would have never payed that much money if they told me what it was going to cost. They let me take the cat home and just being home one day I had to take her back to have her put to sleep. She was worse than the day I first brought her in. I paid her the fee to put the cat to sleep and have then pick up her ashes which cost me $186. This woman is a sham and has no business being in this field..... Read Less

I've been going to Chestnut Ridge since 2005. Dr. Smith was Saber's (my dog/fur baby/family)Vet for many years. He diagnosed Saber with Addisons Disease at approximately 2 yrs old. Dr. Smith retired a few years back and Referred Dr.Andrea as the new Veternarian of Chestnut Ridge Animal Hospital. I was skeptical and worried at first as Saber is my son/family and the Dr. who knew everything about him was retiring. Dr. Andrea has proven she knows her stuff and has done and continues to do everything possible to ensure Sabers good health while living with addisons disease. Chestnutridge has helped Saber, his dad, and myself manage this disease . Sabers father and I give Saber meds regularly on a daily basis and we visit the hospital monthly for his percortin Injections. Saber runs around and plays like he's a baby most days. Saber's now 12 years old and will be 13 on April Fools Day 2018. I highly recommend Chestnutridge to anyone who has concerns with their fur babys. Read Less

I was with Dr. Smith for years, and when Dr. Andrea took over for him I stayed, I can not say enough about how she has taken care of my dog, we have had a couple cancer surgeries and my cat as well. She is always professional, honest and considerate of my feelings in delicate situations to due with my dogs health. The cat was a stray someone dropped off at our house, I took to doctor to have her give shots etc. so I could try to adopt out and honestly say he was healthy, when doctor did the cats initial exam, she realized that the cat was about a year old and not neutered, she said since I was paying for all the shots for the cat she would like to neuter for no charge, and she did that evening, she had the cat stay and I picked him up the next day. After a couple of adoptions that did not work out, the cat is now mine and 4 years old and in excellent health thanks to Dr. Andrea! I love her and her staff!!! Read Less

Unprofessional and inattentive. We see our pet as a member of our family so words can hardly describe how disheartening our experience was. We brought our cat in for a routine checkup and the staff already made administrative mistakes on his paperwork saying he was the wrong age (we brought documents from prior visits with this information). The doctor briefly introduced herself and then proceeded to check his heartbeat and his teeth and said that the exam was over. She did not look in his ears, feel his stomach or notice the flea dander that was on his fur (he is a white cat). After the extremely short examination he was given two shots (they put the shot labels in the wrong place on his shot record) and sent him on his way. He had a fever for 9 DAYS following that visit! We took him to another doctor who took much more time and attention to detail and now our cat has recovered. We scheduled a meeting with the original doctor to explain what had happened and she became immediately defensive and said very unprofessional things to my wife that I will not repeat. Please consider taking your pet to another doctor. We chose Dr. Gill at Brookside Medical and he has been great. Read Less

I rescued a dog about three months ago named hailey, she was a beautiful but neglected and abused Australian cattle dog. Upon dropping her off to Chestnut Ridge to be spade I said to be gentle and that she has been abused but never bit anyone. Then about an hour later got a call saying they tried to muzzle her and that they couldn't get near her so we got in the car and rushed there. When I got there I asked to see her and I also asked to know what exactly happened after I left because I was afraid something had happened to her and the receptionist replied "I KNOW" very rudely and went downstairs leaving me standing there worried something was going on. Then when I was taken to her she looked terrified and was in a dingy basement and then I asked where her brother had been castrated and they said on the table in front of her. Hailey's made huge steps in even coming up to people and Max her brother has made that possible for her so then I thought no wonder she was scared. So I asked the doctor what she exactly did and no one would tell me and the Veterinarian C. David Smith told me I was stupid for getting worked up and worried and he was extremely unprofessional. He then insisted we leave with both Hailey and her brother Max who not twenty minutes earlier had surgery because he didn't want to see our faces again. I had to carry Max to the car because he was still so drugged up he could barely open his eyes and the Vet did not care one bit about his well being. While all this went on there was someone elses dog cut open and just laying on the table in the open room next to us. I then later found out he gave vaccinations at the time of castration which every local vet says is dangerous and I was never told there was a risk. He also had about two inches of loose skin where other vets now have told me he should have had a clean cut and so did many other dogs that were castrated by Smith. All in all I'm sorry i put Hailey through all this, I don't believe Smith cares at all for animals, but instead for the money there owners will dish out to save them and I will never be going back.
