We had the best experience ever at Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center! Dr. Joseph Palamara and the staff were really amazing!! My 14 year old yorkie Brandi was limping and holding up her right hind leg Brandi is 14 years old so we were really concerned when we found out that she needed surgery as she had ripped her ACL and meniscus in her knee Dr. Palamara met with us and explain the procedure in detailed also went over the cost so there was no surprises. He was so caring and understanding that we 100% trusted him to do the surgery on Brandi. Throughout the whole process the doctor and the hospital staff kept us updated always checking to make sure everything was okay with Brandi during and after the surgery. The office filed all the paperwork for our insurance company -Trupanion, every step was so easy because they took care of everything from start to finish. Today we bought Brandy for her follow-up appointment we met with Dr. Palamara who again was very caring and explained the instructions to us for the next phase of Brandi's recovery Brandi is able to put her foot down and is walking great ! She's doing so well even doctor Palmera was amazed I am so happy with the results so happy with the care this doctor and staff provided if you need a great veterinarian Center to do surgery or to take care of your animal this is the place to go! Highly recommend!!! Read Less

First, my heart goes out to those who wrote negative reviews who have lost their beloved pets, but my experience with KBVH has been nothing short of miraculous. Our 11-year-old dog has been a patient at this hospital on a number of occasions over the years -- mostly for after-hours emergencies. Each time, we were immediately attended to, and the attending vet and technicians were courteous and competent in their service delivery, as well as clear in their communications. The dog has had a couple of relatively minor surgeries there, and they were done flawlessly, with absolutely no drama. The reason I am writing this review now, however, is because recently the vets and techs literally saved my dog's life, against tremendous odds. I brought him in on a Thursday late-afternoon because he seemed uncomfortable. The receptionist called in a vet, who took him into the exam room and immediately noted a serious issue. The vet was very compassionate in delivering very frightening news to me. She patiently answered all of my questions, and explained things sometimes twice or three times because there was so much for me to process at the moment. I met with the surgeon, and he explained the risks clearly, and again, with tremendous compassion. By that night, my dog was in surgery. The surgeon actually called me from the operating room to ask me to weigh in on a decision on whether or not to take some steps that might have ended my dogs life if they were not done flawlessly. I decided to go ahead with the more risky procedure, and indeed the surgeon performed flawlessly. After four hours, my dog was out of surgery and in recovery. He stayed in recovery for five days, during which he received expert treatment, delivered with loving care. I know this because they let me sit with him for extended periods, while watching all of the vets and techs go about their business. They clearly enjoy their jobs! Everyone at KBVH -- from the receptionists to the surgeons -- treated me and my dog with compassion and kindness. I wish human hospitals were as well run and had such compassion. My dog has been out of the hospital now for three days, and is continuing to recover. I can say with heartfelt confidence that were it not for KBVH, I would now be mourning the loss of my beloved family member. Having KBVH in my neighborhood gives me tremendous peace of mind. I brought my lab in for emergency treatment for sudden paraphimosis and the vet on duty that night immediately suggested putting him down due to underlying kidney disease (for which he was under treatment for 6 months) despite the paraphimosis having been only 4-9 hours in duration and there were no signs of necrosis yet. After the staff saw I was willing to lay on the floor with him to cake on sugar to reduce the swelling they took him in the back and were able to get his penis back into its sheath. 8 weeks later he is still doing well and enjoyed not only the blizzard but the arrival of spring. I googled the vet and learned she had not been practicing very long and her only experience was in Florida where she worked for a mobile euthanasia business! I will make the longer trip to any other emergency clinic next time. Attached are 3 photos of Hunter - the one with the collar was 12 hours after being seen, the one in the blizzard was 4 weeks after and the toy pic is 8 weeks after being seen. Read Less

We brought our 8 year old female Shelty to VCA Katonah for mast cell tumor removal and chemo therapy treatment. VCA Katonah said if we did nothing, no surgery..no chemo, Chelsea might only live for 6 more months. We did all of the recommended treatment and Chelsea was dead in 3 months. The cancer didn't spread, we know this from the necropsy report. They kept giving her chemo after numerous problems it was causing, including but not limited to; bloody stools, she was at less than 60% of her normal amount of energy, she was throwing up after a good percentage of the dosages. They kept giving her the OK for more chemo by means of multiple types of regular blood draw tests. She handled the first 4 week round of chemo which was the vinblastine infusions well with hardly any symptoms however, she did pick up coccidia during that time which was treated successfully. Then after a 2 week break from successful vinblastine infusions, we got a new doctor. The initial and experienced doctor had moved to Maine. Our new oncologist cleared Chelsea to begin the new at home oral chemo drug called Palladia. Only 2 days after her first dose we took a break 1 scheduled dosage break from Palladia because she was vomiting. A week later we took another scheduled dosage break because Chelsea had bloody stools. The next day we had an oncology visit, I reported that chelsea was at less than 60% of normal energy levels and her stools were still bloody. The day after that she was given palladia again. Chelsea was then given her palladia at full scheduled dosage intervals, until about 2 weeks later when she woke up one morning and wouldn't finish her breakfast and began vomitting. She never stopped vomiting until she died at VCA Katonah. Chelsea lasted less than 3 weeks on Palladia, VCA Katonah and their oncology staff are still giving dogs this medicine. When we started the treatment, the doctors gave us anti-nausea meds incase she started throwing up and made us feel like her throwing up is normal and not to panic and administer the Cerenia if she starts to vomit. Then, the oncology staff had to the nerve to try and blame us for "not getting her to us fast enough". When Chelsea didn't finish her breakfast and started throwing up, I called the vet a total of 3 times before we were able to talk to our oncologist because she was overbooked and busy. It wasn't until after 4 hours and 3 episodes of vomiting did I finally get her on the phone and she told us if she vomits again to bring her in. We did everything we could on our side to give Chelsea the best advantage possible. We trusted VCA Katonah and their oncology "specialists" with our dogs life and they failed us. We were very skeptical and nervous about chemo therapy and I remember our initial oncology doctor trying to comfort us before any treatment began by saying, "I wouldn't be doing this for a living if I felt like I was making dogs suffer". Chelsea died at VCA Katonah on an empty stomach, dying from the inside out, hardly able to stand on her own, with bodily fluids come out of every orifice uncontrollably. Her body shut down. She died while we were with her and we had to call off the CPR after 5 minutes or so because it wasn't working. My mother, brother and myself are traumatized. I am 26, my brother is 23..Chelsea was our dads dog, who also died suddenly in 2010. Stay away from VCA Katonah. -They charged us over $10,000 for everything including the 2 day emergency visit which resulted in Chelsea's death. -Search google for "America's top 10 most overpaid CEO's, Mother Jones"The CEO of VCA Animal Hospitals is on this list of the nations most overpaid CEO's.. I just went through a very heartbreaking and difficult experience with a Goldendoodle I was pet sitting for. I adored this sweet dog and had spent many rewarding lovely time with him. I had been caring for him for about a week when he suddenly became very ill. I took him to Katonah Bedford hospital where I spent time waiting for his diagnosis. There was sadness and worry from pet owners who brought their fur-babies to the hospital but above that I felt the love from the whole staff fill the building. Everyone truly cared for all the pets. I saw dogs tucked under technicians arms. A vet assistant crawled under a chair to coax out a very frightened dachshund. The desk staff very helpful and respectful greeting all pets and owners like they were the most important clients there. And the Veterinarian who gently told me the dog I loved like my own was in grave condition. I was heartbroken but I knew this courageous pup was in loving hands in the last hours of his life. I know know there is a heaven on earth and a heaven where we will once again be reunited with our beloved pets. Thank you to everyone at Katonah Bedford Veterinary hospital. Read Less

WORST VET EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! In the initial consult, they told me they were just going to take our dog in back room to check weight and bring her right back out but instead performed full exam without me present. Deceptive practices. I brought a list of questions for that appt. that were never addressed because vet was short handed and late for next appt. Our dog had an excellent prognosis but died suddenly at a very young age after taking prescribed medications. Devastating and traumatic experience for entire heartbroken family. They demand immediate payment at time of service and only offer a 'Care Credit' payment plan with obscene interest rates. No exceptions. Just heartless corporate greed. Would not even release $5. worth of post mortem clay paw prints without treatment payment in full. Where is the compassion? Our animals and families deserve better!Read Less

So very disappointed in this place. Yes, the vets are nice, but like so many other heath related services in the greater NYC area, the service at the front desk is absolutely horrible. Although I have had several issues with this place and the service, the last straw came as a result of taking my beloved dog in to put her to sleep. I called ahead of time to get a cost and was told $400. So I took her in, and after the horrible experience of putting her down I went to cash out and was told that the cost was over $600.... confused, I asked why and was told it was because of the emergency visit.... Well it was not an emergency, yes, she was very sick, but it was either a sneaky way to get an extra $200 out of me, or because the girl at the counter had no idea what she was doing... I paid extra to have her ashes put into a nice box and to have her paw print done. When I went to pick her up, (about a 30 minute ride) I asked to speak with the manager about the extra money I was charged. However, she was not there and I was told she would call the next day, of course, she did not. To make things worse, when I got home, I find my beautiful dog was put into a cheap dollar store tin.... not a box as I requested or was told would happen and in addition, there was no paw print.... So I had to make another 1 hour round trip to get her paw print, which is in UNBAKED CLAY!!! It is smooshed, and super dirty. Truly unbelievable. My wife and I spent between $3,000 - $5,000 there last year between our 2 dogs and this is the service we get!? We get better service in Buffalo.... we will NEVER go here again.

Before doing any procedure the vet always talked it through with me and gave me options. The front desk was also very professional in any question or concern I had. Read Less

Read Less

It was definitely a great environment. I had to go in the middle of the night for my cat and they were so helpful and thorough when we were talking. I definitely would come back.

Read Less

I just wanted to share. I had an absolutely amazing experience at Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center. they are a veterinary Center, but also have a 24-hour emergency room. the staff was absolutely wonderful. caring, straightforward, helpful. they could not save my dog, and I am heartbroken by it, that they did everything they could until the last minute and comforted me through it. They genuinely care about our pets. dr. Joyce Wagner was extremely empathetic with me and very honest. Alyssa, one of the receptionists, my daughter very busy with stickers and coloring, paper airplanes to keep her mind off of things. I didn't know where to share this , but I did want to share a wonderful experience through a very hard time and recommend them. Read Less
