What an absolute let down.  As some of you may know from my Yelp reviews, we have had the hardest time finding good pet care in Brooklyn NY.  We did finally find a great Vet but it is NOT this one!  I wasn't going to say anything about this place even though they did not advise us correctly about what paperwork we needed to fly our dogs and cats to London and I've had to stay behind in NY for an extra 2 1/2 weeks in an empty apartment because of it.  I was going to let that slide, but what I cannot get over is that I came in for our last of several visits and we arrived an hour early because we walked and didn't know how long it would take to get here (we sold our car because we were supposed to be living in another country by now).  Any chance of getting to see the doctor a little early?  NO WAY!  The office is empty except about 10 staff standing around talking.  It must be somewhat embarrassing for them to not have anything to do and we've all been sitting here looking at each other awkwardly for the last hour now.  I finally asked if they knew I was here and they said "yes but the specific doctor I'm supposed to see is on break". Literally upstairs chilling out.  No chance she would come down and stamp our paperwork even 1 minute early. So here I am, 21 days behind the rest of my family getting out of this country with plenty of time to write a review and take pics.  Ugh... New York City is the pit of awful service and this place is absolutely in the bottom 5%.  P.SIt is now 10 minutes PAST my appointment time.  See how many staff you can count in the picture.  I see 6 pulse the 3-4 just around the corner chatting it up!  Way to go!!  Update:  45 minutes past my appointment time and I'm still waiting for my bill.  5 minute appointment has been a 3 hour ordeal.... I am a life-long Park Slope resident and, many years ago, when Animal Kind opened its' doors, I was thrilled. I brought all my pets to Animal Kind, in addition to some strays that needed treatment. After several years, I grew tired of the revolving door of vets, the impersonal service, and price gouging, and changed to a veterinary hospital near my weekend/vacation home. Today my elderly dog started showing symptoms of a urinary tract infection. I called my vet and she asked me to have a local vet run a urinalysis and email her the results, directly. She didn't want to prescribe anything for my dog without having confirmation of an infection and I won't be at our weekend house until Saturday. I called Animal Kind and asked if they could run the urinalysis and email the results to my vet. Their response..."You have to bring the pet in for an examination." I told them that the dog was older, had many issues that she was under care for, and I just needed a urinalysis and OF COURSE I was expecting to pay for the service. They said they would not do the test and I'd have to bring my pet in for a complete examination. Oh...by the way...they said they had no appointments until mid-week for a "new" patient! Nice going Animal Kind...I didn't think it was possible for me to be more unimpressed with the quality of service I had previously experienced but I am! Let's add a lack of compassion to the list of reasons why Animal Kind Veterinary Hospital should NOT be anyone's choice for animal care in Park Slope! Read Less

When it comes to NYC you're always worried about being scammed and over charged-  BE AWARE HERE. If I didn't have a little medical background I would have been stupid enough to take the vets word and a bill of almost $1,000. I came to the vet bc it appears my dog has a tooth infection (he had a small seed stuck in his gum a week prior- from the dog park). Her first and only recommendation is to "put him under anesthesia, do xrays, clean his teeth and extract the tooth if necessary... quoted around $600 if an extraction is not needed and over $1000 if it does need to be extracted" I had to tell her NO and that I wanted him prescribed an antibiotic to clear the infection and if the infection came back I would then do surgery. Never again will I return to this Vet. And just like all the other reviews- the front desk woman was quite rude- not even a smile. Read Less

Just had to give a shout-out to Dr. Witherell and the great staff at Animal Kind! They helped prepare my cat Sibby (a.k.a. Sybil Pride) for our relocation to Colombia, and they did so with a minimum of hassle and a maximum of caring. They provided excellent care and kept me informed of the process throughout. They soothed my (very) frayed nerves and provided me with the proper documentation. The actual move went very smoothly. We passed through security at JFK and customs in Colombia without a hitch. I can't thank Dr. Witherell enough for her caring attitude and for going the extra mile when I needed additional documentation to satisfy the airline's size requirements. I highly recommend Dr. Witherell and the entire Animal Kind staff. Read Less

My review is for the service my dog received at the groomer at Animal Kind Veterinary Hospital.  It was my first dogs cut, the groomer came highly recommend, so I was comfortable in taking him there.  The groomer came out asked what kind of cut I would like, a puppy cut I said, okay said the groomer.  I told her I have a picture, and I explained I would like to see his eyes, did I mention he's a yorkipoo,  "cut close to the body, and face to match she said", "no not to close I said", "I just would like to see his eyes I said".  Fast forward four hours later, I was so excited! to see him. She brings him out, I can see your eyes i said.  I asked so how was he, "her reply" his a puppy, he behaved, well manner a little all over the place. Off I go, got in the cab, half way home, took him out the carrier, sat him in my lap, noticed he was licking his paw area, when he moved blood was everywhere. I contact the groomer letting her know how displeased I was after examining my dog he was bleeding all over the place.  I mention that I should be compensated back half my money ($81.00) because the service I received was not a professional one because my dog was butchered.( one side of his face cut short other side long, nick on his leg uneven hair not shaped at all)  She said she needed to speak with your boss and hang the phone up in my ear.  Still waiting to here back. I am very disappointed with the service here. I brought my Shih-Tzu in on 7/5/18. I addressed the fact that she may have a eye infection. Dr. Payne gave her a topical cream for irritation above her eye and said she had allergies. He wanted to put her on a monthly steroid which I refused. How can you put a pet on a monthly treatment without diagnosing the problem.    10 days later on July 15, 2018 I had to take My Shih-Tzu back to her regular vet and yes she in fact has a eye infection. My vet properly examined and tested her eyes and gave her the necessary treatment.   Zero Stars. Please do your research before going to Animal kind. The front desk is unprofessional, I brought in my Shih-Tzu records for basic info to be put in the system not done because they were to busy yapping. Total waste of my time and money. I only went there because my vets office was closed. Never again. They just want your money. Read Less

Writing this review for my dog's recent dental surgery at Animal Kind (but I have been taking her there for 9 years now). I was SUPER nervous to get Junie a dental procedure. Did not want to put her under anesthetic, did not want to risk her never waking up. I had let her bad teeth go for a 1 year+ until I could not deny she was uncomfortable, so I'm writing this review for anyone who is in my situation who is nervous (esp with an older animal) and not sure what to expect. My first bit of advice for dealing with your anxiety is please do some research on this procedure and ask whatever vet you use as many questions as you need to to make yourself feel comfortable about going ahead. Dr. Jaffe handled this procedure and he was happy to talk me through literally EVERYTHING in extreme detail, and this made me feel much more confident. My pup is a feisty and active senior lady (almost 10), and here are the ways AK was willing to go above and beyond for her: -SCRUPULOUS pre-procedure testing. I had to go back just to make sure we got this 100%-Special, more reversible "senior" anesthesia protocol-2 phone calls from Dr. Jaffe, one during the procedure & one right after! I was dying of anxiety all day but this was helpful! -Extra time for the surgery bc of the complexity of the procedure -Extra monitoring after the surgery My dog is otherwise healthy, so I don't feel they *had* to do all this (and some practices might not) but the fact that they DID shows that they care about the individual animal quite a bit. So if age is making you put this off like it was for me, don't let it! I think they will work with your situation to make sure your animal is getting the right treatment. Junie had to have 13 teefs taken out! The first 24 hours after surgery were a bit miserable (this is going to be very individual to the dog) but the next afternoon I caught her wagging her tail and pouncing on a stuffy and I knew she was her old self, except better bc she doesn't have any diseased and painful teeth. You will need a Xanax when you get the bill for a procedure like this, but honestly after everything I understand why it is priced the way it is (it can be quite complicated and they really do a great and thorough job). So painful to the wallet but worth it ultimately. Overall, I was quite struck by the quality of care I received during this procedure -- thorough, careful, high-quality. I think the entire staff at AK is there bc they love and care about animals, and recognize they are working on someone's family member. I was a wreck the whole day this was going on but IMO it couldn't have gone any better and if I had to do it again tomorrow with Dr. Jaffe I would in a heartbeat. Read Less

They took amazing care of my kitten Yodel, I brought her in and she had a high fever and was very sick, she stayed with them for three nights and I brought home a healthy, happy kitten. The staff was kind and understanding, the vets called me twice a day unprompted to give me updates and were sensitive to my feelings as a pet owner. Veterinary care is always expensive, that is to be expected, however for the level of care she received over a three night stay, I'd say they undercharge for their service. I am going to continue to bring her and stay loyal to this practice, this is the best pet care I have ever received. Read Less

Be careful with your WALLET here. They have the "estimate vs overcharge" system and they make you sign a contract saying they will take you to court if you do not pay the surprise amount.  Whatever the initial estimate or diagnosis, you will be charged more, period. Even when the doctors are being "considerate" or "conservative" which they try to be...they will squeeze you a bit more.     I practically begged them to consult me before charging more but their business model doesn't work that way. $800 after my initial visit, they quoted me another $1200 to solve my pet's problems finally.  Just be aware that their initial contract is like handing them a blank check. I have been coming here for few years with different pets. The doctors are pretty knowledgeable. The cost is not bad in comparison to other places. Staff is friendly. Was somewhat disappointed lately though. Everything was fine when I was at the hospital but once I had to deal with them over the phone requesting some records it turned into an ordeal. I had to call 5 times to have my pet invoices email to me which I needed. I was met with extreme rudeness from the different people who pick up the phone, like it was my fault they have not sent me what I needed. This is really leaving a bad taste and it ruins my impression of how this place is being run and the fact this seems to be acceptable behavior in how to treat customers who have just spend so much money on pet care. No apologies were offered or any remorse shown. I have always recommended this hospital to my friends but after this experience I doubt I will in the future. I still feel that for most part the doctors are caring and knowledgeable. But something needs to be done about these girls who pick up the phone. Please send them for some badly needed Customer Service training as this could be lethal to your business. Read Less

Dr. Podgorska and all the technicians here at Animal Kind saved our dog's life!! We had to bring him in first thing in the morning on emergency for what we later found out were severe symptoms of HGE. I called ahead of time to arrange an ER visit about an hour before getting him there, and by the time we made it to the vet, the staff were all ready to take him in. He was in critical condition and ended up being hospitalized for 2 nights. Due to the severity of his condition, Dr. Podgorska had to tell us that they would try their best but to be aware that anything could happen, at which point we were in a panic that we might be losing our dog so suddenly and so quickly. Everyone there were very compassionate in our time of need and with their quick actions, our dog was stabilized and on his way to recovery. His doctor ran all the necessary tests without excessively pushing for unnecessary treatments, and we could clearly see she very much cared about our dog's well being first and foremost. During his hospitalization she called us with updates twice a day, welcoming us to visit him any time, and when we visited it was clear how much all the technicians cared for him as well, and we were comforted in knowing he was in good hands. In the end we don't know what caused the sudden attack, but it was not for lack of trying on the vet's part, and she did manage to catch a liver problem to be treated with meds. The follow up exams were done as courtesy and we are happy to say he is back to normal, albeit with a still recovering liver. We can't thank everyone at this hospital enough for saving his life!! I don't have enough  positive things to say about Animal Kind. When we moved to the neighborhood, we took our elderly and sick cat, Gramercy in for a visit, and he received excellent and thorough care from Dr. Hammer, who diagnosed a very large tumor our previous vet failed to mention, despite having done x-rays  just two months before. Dr. Hammer gave us realistic assessments, and when we finally had to bring Gramercy in for end of life care this weekend, He received kind and compassionate care from Dr. Witherell.I've lived with animals all my life, so this wasn't my first rodeo, but I can honestly say that I have never had better or kinder treatment for a pet than that provided by Dr. Witherell. We have used Animal Kind for several of our hamsters in previous years and have always had great experiences until today. On Wednesday, I called to make an appointment for my sick hamster, and I was told the soonest I could see someone was Friday after 2 when the hamster-treating vet came in; they told me that not even their emergency staff was trained to treat hamsters. That was difficult to accept given the seriousness and time sensitive nature of my hamster's illness but fine, there were no other places that treated hamsters with availabilities, so we scheduled the appointment for 2:20, they confirmed that we had been there before by looking up both my and my partner's names (as well as our previous hamster), and my partner took the day off to take us to the vet. We arrive there on Friday well ahead of time and were told that not only do they not have an appointment for my hamster but that they also no longer have any vets that treat hamsters at all. Initially the receptionist Franchesca (sp?) even asked me if I was sure I had called the right place, which was insulting given the level of detail and confirmation I was given on Wednesday and was able to provide. I was upset at the insinuation that I had somehow done something incorrectly despite them being my regular vet hospital, my being a regular client there, and the fact that one of *their* staff had been in the wrong to tell me I had an appointment with a non-existent vet; why on Earth would I make up the detail that the hamster-treating vet was only in on Friday and only in at 2 pm when my hamster needed to be seen right away?? Meanwhile, my hamster, mind, has now been forced to wait two additional days, getting sicker without treatment, and she has now been taken into multiple stressful environments just to get there-- this may sound like no big deal, but hamsters can easily die when stressed too much, particularly when already ill and a little older like mine. I wouldn't normally write a bad review for this place, but this is completely unacceptable. Either the person I spoke with on Wednesday was deliberately giving out incorrect information and lying to me or that person was woefully undertrained and should not have been handling an emergency-related question (and I did describe it as an emergency on that call). As a result, we were forced to scramble around and go to multiple other locations until we luckily found a hamster vet available at Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group (most are not in every day at all hospitals, and most hospitals do not have hamster vets at all). The additional stress from the travel could have been detrimental to my pet and certainly delayed treatment for her. Had I known that I wouldn't be able to get her seen today, I would have looked even harder on Wednesday for another place that did or asked them for a recommendation. I also find it ridiculous that a vet hospital would not notify their clients that *both* of their hamster vets were leaving the practice and thus rendering their location useless to us for our hamsters' care. I am furious that they placed my hamster in this situation and potentially caused further damage to her with their actions. I sincerely hope that Animal Kind will review their training for their receptionists and improve their relations with the public. Matters like this can literally be life or death, and I'm just hoping my hamster will pull through after their seriously negligent actions. I'm also disappointed because I have recommended their practice to friends in the past because I appreciated their work and assistance so much. I'm very sorry to see that they have fallen so below standard.**Update: My hamster did die last night, nine days after taking her to Animal Kind and having this experience. I wish I could say she had an easy death, but unfortunately, that was not the case. I will be contacting them about this matter and intensely hope that they will do better for future cherished pets who deserve humane and ethical treatment, starting from the very first phone call to make an appointment. She's attentive to our cat and makes sure he's doing ok with follow-up phone calls. The whole staff is very nice, especially the vet techs/assistants. We feel our cat is in the best hands when we visit Animal Kind. Our wallets are hurting from these weekly appointments, but it's worth it to make sure our little buddy is doing ok. Read Less

We have brought both of our dogs to this vet for years now (and spent thousands of dollars here) - so know this isn't a review by a person who's only stopped in once. The vet techs and veterinarians at this facility are WONDERFUL and caring. They are knowledgeable, have a great bedside manner and are professional. Our experience runs the gamut - everything from an emergency to anesthetic teeth cleaning. We've also medically boarded our dogs here - and there's not too many people I trust to take care of my dogs over night. Most importantly we return here again and again because of Dr. Michelle Werner - who's dachshund knowledge and ability to remember tiny details about our wiener dogs is the added bonus. The ONE thing I would love to see Animal Kind improve upon is their front desk staffing. Sometimes the phone rings and rings and rings. Sometimes you get put on hold for eternity. There also seems to often be a lack of communication with what the policies are - and other times they seem to be making up their own policies on the spot. (Case in point: I called today to make an appointment for a nail trim - something I do almost every month for one of my dogs who has fast growing nails. Usually I can come in early before work and get him in and out... because it literally takes 5 min to trim nails. Today I was told nails can only be trimmed at 11:30am or 4:30pm... everyday. "Did your policy change?" I never got an answer for that.)In short, I highly recommend the medical care side. I can't say the same for the administrative end. Read Less

Our cats got great care at Animal Kind for many years but our last experience was horrific and we're not going back there ever again.Animal Kind was recommended to me and my wife when we moved to Brooklyn in 2006.  Excellent care was provided to our cats George, Oliver and Ashmont, as they were treated over the years by the very thoughtful, compassionate and highly skilled Drs. Weiser, Salas and Stronger, all of whom have since left for other practices. So when Ashmont recently fell sick, his care was assigned to the junior vet, Jonathan Jaffe. Dr. Jaffe proved himself to be incapable of diagnosing the upper respiratory tract infection Ashmont brought home from his 4-day hospitalization, showed irresponsible immaturity by refusing to return phone calls to my wife after she questioned a medication dosage, and proved himself to be utterly lacking in empathy if not simply callous and cruel by graphically describing how our cat would feel like he was drowning as he died of heart failure. (We saw to it that Ashmont met no such fate -- no thanks to AK.) It also appears that Dr. Jaffe gets little to no management supervision since he noted in Ashmont's case notes that he had lost our trust but neither he nor AK's owner and senior vet Dr. Mark Gibson ever arranged to have the case turned over to another veterinarian. We have lost all confidence in Animal Kind and will be bringing our cats elsewhere for health care. Read Less

The dog had been given the proper dose for a year before they came up with this story and then they changed it to "we'll make an appointment, we'll run more test (the same test he just had) and then we can given him the meds. It's crazy!!! The dog's old and sick and can't be without medication and the trauma of unnecessary blood test is hard on him. My first introduction to Animal Kind was before I even moved to the neighborhood. My husband and I were finishing up with our new apartment in preparation for the movers coming the next day when we came across a stray dog in front of our building. We called the nearest vet office that turned up on Google, and despite it being nearly 10 pm, the staff stayed until we could bring the dog in to scan for a microchip. Dr Werner took it in for the night and stayed well past closing time to hunt down the dog's information, and called me with updates when they found the dog's owner. I've since taken my own dog and had a great experience having my questions answered by Dr Jaffe and getting prescriptions filled. The staff at the front desk and in the back are all pleasant and professional. It's great to know there's a full service and high quality vet office nearby.Read Less

I have one 16 year old dog and another one approaching 15. Living nearby for many years, I was disappointed to not love this place. My experience was one of never seeing the same vet twice (large staff) and because of this, feeling like none of them really knew me or my dogs. I reluctantly went to another smaller practice that required a car service for several years. But when my dog was hit by a car at 11pm at night Animal Kind was open and Dr. Morehead was on duty. I have only gone to him since and feel so lucky to have found him. He is kind and wonderful with my dogs, really takes an interest in them beyond their health, remembering details about their personalities. As an admitted neurotic pet owner, he is the most patient vet I have ever encountered, always happy to answer all of my questions and discuss what I may have researched myself. He has never recommended tests or medication that were not completely necessary even though they have all the technology available on sight. It is easy to request visits with him allowing the same attention that you would get in a smaller practice, but with the better hours and technology of a hospital. I should also mention that I did recently see Dr. Fryborg (last minute appointment made by me) and found her to be really great also. Thanks to Dr. Morehead's detailed record keeping regarding my dog's heart condition she was able to address my concerns and was also warm and kind to my very nervous little dog. Read Less

I've brought both my dog and my cat here a few times and have always had a good experience. The staff and vets have always been respectful and friendly. Once a technician joked that my dog Frankie looked as if he was wearing Zorro's mask because of the pattern of dark spots on his snout, which gave us a good laugh. In all honesty, sometimes I've felt the staff at the reception desk were somewhat unpleasant on the phone, but whenever I'm actually there they are fantastic. My dog Frankie has been seen mostly by Dr. Black who is a very caring and knowledgeable person. We've brought Frankie in for an ear infection and for general check-ups, and found Dr. Black's diagnoses to be spot-on. In case of the ear issue, Frankie was losing hair on his ears and clearly experiencing a lot discomfort, and the treatment prescribed by Dr. Black took care of the problem. I also appreciate that she doesn't try to force us to get unnecessary tests or expensive treatments.Thankfully we've never had to deal with a very serious or life-threatening issue, but given my experience with Animal Kind, I wouldn't hesitate to bring my pets here with a serious condition either. I was confused when reading the reviews here, since they seem pretty clearly split between ""AK is HORRIBLE, STAY AWAY"" and ""AK is the best thing since sliced bread."" As usual, the truth is somewhere in between, and probably depends on what happened with your pet. I've taken my dog here several times now and have been satisfied by the competence and diagnosis of Dr. Weiss. She is straightforward, professional and knowledgeable. I was able to work with her to troubleshoot over the phone rather than schedule another appointment (we had just been by to see them a few weeks earlier for booster shots and a minor injury). I really appreciated the fact that while they recommended I immediately scheduled a visit, Dr. Weiss was willing to listen and consider having us wait a day to see if there was a change in conditions. I have never used them for an emergency -- yet -- (hopefully never), but judging by the vet and tech attitudes so far, I wouldn't be at all troubled to do so. Some procedures can be surprisingly expensive, and I don't think purchasing medications through them is the cheapest option. They don't offer that you make your own purchases through other vendors, but I'd imagine they would be willing to write out the required prescription if the condition can wait a few days. I was surprised at the bill the first time we visited: a round of booster shots (DHPP) + Bordatella, deworming meds, a stool culture, and an antiseptic solution to clean a cut, an e-collar, + the cost of consultation = $300, but that price is hardly exorbitant. You be the judge. The next visit to treat a minor eye infection = $66, including prescription ointment and consultation. That was a very pleasant surprise, and seemed rather cheap to me. The counter staff, it's true, are varied. One staff member on our first visit almost turned me off completely from ever visiting again -- he seemed completely uncooperative and uninterested. However, another staffer, during the same visit, took a look at our dog's wounded leg and recommended we just wait and see, and come back if the flesh would wasn't healing quickly enough (obviously, it didn't). However, I don't fault someone for having a bad day or a bad moment, or of saying perhaps not the most caring thing at the right time. Isn't everyone entitled to be human? What convinced me that this is a solid, professional establishment, was the fact that there are other staffers who clearly care about providing sound treatment -- and that helps, when anyone's having a bad day. Someone else can always pitch in and help defuse a situation, offer a kind word, make a suggestion. The number of trained staff at this clinic clearly allow for that provision, as we experienced. A final note -- when reading vet reviews, I'm always struck by how emotional some of these reviews sound. I think it's something to consider that when our fur babies are sick, we sometimes are out of our minds with worry and grief -- and being out of our minds is not a good place from which to judge anything, least of which a field which generally one doesn't have adequate training or exposure to. It must suck to be a vet, because I'd imagine that some days, a vet just can't win, and all they can do is hope that the pet owner's grief and rage aren't unfairly transferred to them. Read Less

I have to be honest. I had *some* reservations coming here after reading the reviews. BUT after hearing my cat, Giorgio, howl on the phone in pain when my boyfriend called to tell me that there was something really wrong with him, we had no choice. I'm glad we went to Animal Kind. Not only is it two doors down from his apartment, but the support staff AND doctors we dealt with went above and beyond to help Giorgio deal w/ a nasty full urinary tract blockage. He was in their hospital for 3 days and 2 nights. We were allowed to visit and the doctor on rotation ALWAYS responded to our phone calls and gave us prompt updates on how he was doing. The hospital stay, etc. ended up being quite a bill, but aren't most medical emergencies? The two vets that we dealt with directly - Dr. Frydenborg and Dr. Werner were great. A few days after his hospital stay, Giorgio was acting funny again (lethargic, etc.) and I made a same-day appt. to see Dr. Frydenborg for a quick checkup. He was partially blocked, but he managed to unblock himself. She prescribed another round of meds to take home and advised against keeping him overnight since she felt another round of sedation and catheter would be too traumatizing for him. He's been fine ever since. I'm planning to move out of the country this summer and Giorgio will definitely be going to Animal Kind for his checkup and shots so he can make the move as well! Read Less

Having recently moved to Brooklyn, I did not have any relationships with vets in this area. Thankfully, the many positive reviews on Yelp guided me to this little clinic and I have nothing but good things to say. The office is clean and bright. The staff are very friendly and obviously care a great deal about animals. My appointment was for 12:15, I arrived at noon and was taken back 5 minutes early. Complete blood work and an exam by both the vet and an assistant took only 20 minutes. As far as the price, I found it to be on par with my vet back home in Kentucky. Exam fee is $65. My total came to about $165 for blood work and prescription. Overall, I am very satisfied and will return to Animal kind should the need arise. Read Less

I have never seen a dog want to go to the Vet as much as my bully when we are headed to Animal Kind.  Maybe it's because of the treats he gets or the other doggie scents that await but whatever the case, I'm glad he likes to go.  As for his human...they have great staff, convenient hours and knowledgeable doctors.  It's as simple as that. It's a very professional place that not only cares about your pet but also makes caring for your pet easy. Some people have said AK is on the pricier side but I'll forgo the few Starbucks to have one less hassle in my life and great care for my pooch. This place definitely gets 5 paws :-) Read Less

I love this place. We had been going to another vet who was terrible-- in a nutshell the old vet lacked concern. Our dog Sadie had a serious stomach illness and we made an appointment to take her to the old vet. We were a few minutes late having had to walk through the snow with our sick dog and when we got there the vet had left-- no phone call, no advice as to what to do with our dog who might have a life threatening disease-- nothing. A friend of mine had been going to Animal Kind for years but having read so many negative review, we went elsewhere. When we got back home from our failed attempt to see the old vet, I noticed blood in our dog's stool and, not knowing what else to do-- called Animal Kind. They were amazing. They didn't even know us but stayed on the phone with me and listened as I explained the symptoms. They have an emergency 24 hour service but also said that I could make a Sunday morning appointment and after listening to all of her symptoms said we could likely wait until tomorrow (which would not have an emergency fee). We went the next day and I was extremely impressed with the quality of the care we received. Read Less

We moved to Queens from PS, and we insisted that we drive back to PS to see Dr. Mateyak and Dr. Frydenborg for our 2 cats, who have taken great care of our cats for years. Almost everytime we got stuck in BQE traffic and were late. Nonetheless the wait is always short and reasonable. Dr. Mateyak and Dr. Frydenborg are the most thorough and patient vets we have ever met. Not only they answer your questions thoroughly, I never felt that they force me to make a decision about, say, vaccinating for something that probably can be avoided. In other words, unlike other vets I've been to, they don't force another hundred bucks onto your bill. Now only if my doctor is as patient as they are... Oh and they call you back! And as an avid Mac user, how could I not love a vet who is so tech-savvy and has Mac all over the clinic!? They are organized, and they'd pull up every record you have right there in front of you. No guessing games and no running around checking records. Read Less

While I continue to have a good experience with this clinic, I will continue to update my reviews. I took my dog back to Dr. Black yesterday after many months of being MIA. I was trying other vets (whom Dr. Black recommended after she exhausted all the possibilities with my dog) for allergy testing and all kinds of other things. While the other two vets I tried gave me some different and somewhat useful solutions, I never felt as good with them as I did with Dr. Black and the staff at Animal Kind. First of all, she was SO happy to see my dog that it really did make me feel like she missed her. She went through the history of the last few months with me to get up to date with what's been happening with my dog. She did the things I requested, gave my dog necessary shots to stay up to date, and told me that from here on, she/animal kind should be able to handle the care of my dog's allergies, now that we know what the problems are (mostly allergies) Read Less

I love Animal Kind. Yes they are expensive, but they have an A+ facility. It's amazing that place. One of the receptionist had kind of an attitude, I can careless about her. I care about the Doctors and the other receptionists are very nice. I brought my cat here because he was urinating blood and come to find out he had kidney stones. It was so bad that he had to stay over two nights. I received a call EVERY DAY from Dr. Black letting me know on my kitty's progress. I have had animals all my life and have NEVER received a call from a vet checking on my pet. The other cool thing is that you can call them any time and leave a message and I swear Dr. Black calls me back within 30 minutes and if I don't answer leaves me a detailed message of what I should do. I was given two options, operation or no operation and of course I selected NO operation because I cannot afford it. Dr. Black gave me a second alternative and thankfully so far my cat is doing great. I need to take him in a few weeks for an x-ray to check if the kidney stone is gone. Let's hope it is. Read Less

My cat ended up having to be put to sleep, and they were incredible with the entire thing.

Be careful with your WALLET here.

Simba accidentally got out of our fenced backyard and my husband saw him get hit by a car, roll over and run off. He was missing for 30 hours on a cold night and we were frantic. When he was finally found--miraculously, unhurt!--we rushed him to Animal Kind during the emergency hours. He could not have been treated more kindly. Except for some sore paw pads and a tiny cough, he was fine. We got a very nice follow-up call the next day to make sure he was okay. The practice still earns the five stars! Read Less

Witherell. When we adopt again, we will not hesitate to return to Animal Kind. Read Less

We chose Animal Kind 3.5 years ago and have been reassured of our choice after every visit. Most recently, Barzini needed surgery and we looked to Animal Kind.  Dr. Frydenborg and the entire team went above and beyond in providing the best care for our little guy. The follow up phone calls, the photos, and everything else they did to make him (and us) comfortable throughout the process meant so much to our family.  And finally, the receptionists have our gratitude for their patience and understanding as we peppered them with a million questions and concerns. The bill wasn't cheap, but totally worth every penny. We called so many times - I'm surprised they didn't block our number. Kidding, but not kidding. Ha! Thank you, Animal Kind. Read Less

The other times we went, we just had to pay for the services and medicine. Our cat has been seeing Dr. Black and she is a very sweet and caring vet. She's attentive to our cat and makes sure he's doing ok with follow-up phone calls. The whole staff is very nice, especially the vet techs/assistants.

Read Less

Dr Werner took it in for the night and stayed well past closing time to hunt down the dog's information, and called me with updates when they found the dog's owner.

We come here from Manhattan because we've found this clinic to be more reliable and a bit cheaper than the vets in our area. Read Less

Read Less

I ADORE Dr. Mateyak and am sorry that she's retiring at the end of the year. She's always been able to handle, diagnose and treat my cat who is euphemistically described as ""fractious."" I find the staff really friendly and knowledgeable. A big plus is that I can communicate with them by email which is better than playing phone tag and being on hold. My only moan is that they're pricey but Dr. Mateyak has been such a lifeline to my little savage that it was worth it. Oh yeah, I LOVE their iMacs!

Read Less

We got our first dog just before new years. ?Neither my wife nor I had owned a dog since childhood. On good word of mouth we selected Animal Kind as our Min Pin's vet. I only wish my own doctor was as kind and attentive as Ella's vet. We see Dr. Sondhi and he is always terrific. He remembers where we left off, doesn't rush the exam, and always has time for questions. The tech are great too. ?They really love animals and it shows. There's a really great feeling when you walk in and we were ""love bombed"" when first visited. ?Leslie, one of the techs, took what has turned out too be the cutest picture of our pup so far. We did have one issue where some X-rays were sent off to a specialist out of state when we needed them to take to a specialist ourselves, but the test of quality is how problems are resolved and Animal Kind resolved the issue promptly and fairly. I just moved to the neighborhood and had no choice but to go to them because I had an emergency and I can't tell you how happy I am that they are my neighborhood vet. I brought my cat in because I thought he had a urinary block (something very expensive to treat) and came to find out, without unnecessary testing or x-rays, that he's just stressed from the move. Dr. Murphy would've had me in and out of there in less than 15 minutes had she not taken the extra time that I was asking for, as a neurotic mom, to give me advice on how to make the adaption to the new place easier for him. I am very happy with them and there were no hidden charges that I'd previously find on my vet bills. Read Less

I just visited this vet for the first time today and had a very pleasant experience. My cat, Oblio, has been suffering from a cold for the past three weeks. Read Less

Read Less
