One Love Animal Hospital Bay Ridge

Brooklyn, New York
General Info
One Love Animal Hospital opened its doors in Boerum Hill in 2010 by husband and wife team Dr. Ken Humphreys & Dr. Eliza Lischin to serve the pet health care needs of New Yorkers. Shortly after they expanded the practice to 4 locations throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx. Dr Danielle Schoen, Dr Laura D'Onofrio , Dr Katie Grzyb, Dr Michelle Meltzer, Dr Joey Tsang, and Dr Dennis Miller joined their high quality practice to offer a personalized approach to veterinary medicine. Our hospital motto is "One Love - One Life" by way of compassion, empathy and progressive thinking. We value the relationship, continued trust, and goodwill we establish with our clients. Providing quality, compassionate care in a timely manner is our top priority.

Inhumane persons that work there. Took my senior cat, who ha kidney failure, there for 2+ years. No more!! Owner is blind and they gave him a hard time over the phone & in person! Cat needs refills on his food and pills and every time we tried to this hospital hung up on us or had an argument. We’ve tried explaining several times that the owner is blind n they still expected him to see the papers in front of him! They told us that Marissa doesn’t work there and they never heard of her but when someone else called it was interesting! Marissa was there! She worked there! They lied. Eera or Ira, Receptionst, hung up on us. Cat is dying n they don’t care! Read Less

Have been taking our yorkie to this vet for 3+ years now and will not be returning. Our pup had a cracked tooth that was misdiagnosed without properly looking into his symptoms - even after i f'ing told them he was having trouble eating (they recommended the old "give him antibiotics and steroids" after spending hundreds on bloodwork). The cracked tooth became an infection that has now entirely deteriorated his mastication muscles.. so to review, their initial lazy diagnosis was wrong, causing the condition to worsen, and we've paid a fortune of vet and medication bills since. Also i just looked up the 2-week medication regiment they charged us $25 for. And a 2-month regiment of the exact same medication is $15 on Chewy. Read Less

The best vet practice I have ever encountered.  Dr. D'Onofrio is amazing.  Have been going there for about 9 years now.  They truly care for your dogs as if they were their own.  (In OTHER practices I had been to in the past there would be a new vet almost every time I'd go. Therefore, there was no relationship with us or our dogs.) They are the only people who I have trusted and have boarded my dogs with.  (They only do Medical Boarding- one dog had cancer and the other a diabetic).  I was away for a week and was confident that my dogs were in great hands. Two out of three dogs have passed on and Dr. D'Onofrio helped us make them as comfortable as can be towards the end. I used to love these guys until today. My dog walker called me to say that my dog was vomiting profusely, so I left work and jumped in a cab home.As soon as I got there I bathed the puppy and called them to see if I should take him in and if their was anything I could do to help him at home and make him more comfortable. The receptionist had told me the doctor was in surgery, no problem I asked to please call me back asap because I was freaking out. This was at 10:45 am. It's 5pm, and thank god the pup is ok but I had to call them to ask why I haven't received a call back..6 hours and 15 minutes is unacceptable, especially when you have to chase down your puppies doctor. Five well-deserved stars for this awesome facility. I brought my fur-baby Cleo in because she was scooting on the floor and Dr. Miller was very nice, very attentive, and VERY helpful and informative. He explained all of the reasons why Cleo could be scooting and he also explained dietary modifications I could make to help her avoid GI tract issues. Then he told me that I could have her anal glands checked out and expressed. Before any procedure was done, I was given a printed copy of the bill to sign and accept or decline. I really appreciate how transparent the billing process is here because I do not like surprises. (This is one big difference between One Love and my previous vet clinic). Even though this place is a bit pricier than my prior vet clinic, the level of care I received was exceptional and I think it's worth the cost to be better informed about my cat's health. My prior clinic's vet didn't explain things to me, she would just decide a course of action and take it.It was a wonderful visit and I will definitely bring Cleo back to be seen again the next time she's due for her checkup. She also had both of her eyes closed shut due to a very bad eye and respiratory infection. I took her in and they immediately took care of her and saved her life. My cat is now 2 yrs old and is doing great. We now follow up with Dr. D'Onofrio. She takes her time and is so sweet to my cat & I. The Hospital is always very clean, the receptionist are very sweet, they have plenty of availability to work around your schedule and there is little to no wait time once you arrive. Dr. Donofrio is the only vet at this practice who is knowledgeable, caring and patient. My boy really likes her a lot. Dr. Miller on the other hand... I will never see him again. He ran tons of unnecessary blood work over and over again and the simple fix was fasting my dog prior to blood work... dr. Miller said he was "perplexed" and didn't know you had to fast dogs before blood work. Uh, clearly you do because on the THIRD time getting the blood drawn (this time fasted) the results come back perfect. Crazy! Talk about incompetent. By the way, I figured out the fasting on my own with just some research. Read Less

Dr. Donofrio is an incredible human. I would never let anyone but her and her team touch my beloved pup. Please be warned though, there is one (not very friendly) vet at this location. I don't know her name but she actually yelled at me in the waiting room on two separate occasions! Once, about 4 years ago, for bringing in stray kittens and the second for letting my dog get a pet from another "dog parent." Her words were literally "Not everyone likes puppies! Pick him up NOW" haha! I honestly didn't care but if you have a bad experience here please just go to Dr. Donofrio and I promise you, you will love this place. She really is incredible. Read Less

I heard so many good things about this practice but I wasn't super impressed. They seemed more like a corporation than a veterinary practice, as evidenced by the list of client rules you have to sign off on upon arrival. They indicate that lab work takes 7-10 days to come back which seems really excessive. And that if you're late to your appt, you have to pay a fee and reschedule. And so on. I've had animals my whole life, been to many veterinary practices, and never experienced all of these rules. The doc that saw my cat Frances seemed a bit overwhelmed with her history and forgot to take her weight until I reminded him. Vitals, such as temp, weight have always been done immediately. One positive they give you an estimate prior to moving ahead but the estimate included a nail clipping at $23. Usually nail clippings are complimentary with services. And their prices are expensive for Brooklyn: $73 for an office visit. I wouldn't say they are terrible but I would say there are better practices around and ones that wont nickel and dime you for everything. I totally understand veterinary practices are also a business but One Love seemed over the top. Would not use them again! Read Less

I would like to thank the staff at One Love Animal Hospital in Bay Ridge for helping me through a horrible ordeal. I met first Dr. D'Onofrio when I discovered that my recently-adopted cat's mouth was absolutely disgusting. I was panicking and very upset but the reception staff were incredibly kind and comforting and calmed me down. I wish I had gotten their names so I could commend them here. I received an appointment that day and my cat was ultimately diagnosed with stage 3/4 dental disease and required surgery. The surgery appointment was a week later. During the wait-time, the doctors and office staff were incredibly kind and helpful and made my cat's well-being a priority. The day after my original appointment I realized that I had forgotten to ask for pain management. Dr. O'Onofrio was out that day but after a phone call and visit, another vet set me up with pain management meds (on another note, pain management in cats is tricky but in the last few years there has been a lot innovation but many vets have not kept up. This is NOT the case at One Love. They know how to manage pain in cats). My cat was very comfortable prior to her surgery. The surgery (which involved extraction of many, many teeth) itself went very well and my cat is no longer in pain and very happy. Dr. O'Onofrio was happy to update me as soon as my cat woke up. When I brought her home, I could not tell that she had surgery that day. She seemed completely normal. I appreciated the phone call the next day. As other reviewers have pointed out, it's not cheap. Having said that, they were upfront about the cost right from the start. The final bill was exactly what I was quoted. Cat dental problems (especially of this magnitude) are expensive to treat in general. That's what Care Credit is for. However, the cost was well worth the peace of mind of knowing that my cat's surgery was performed by a high-quality vet.Dr. Miller who saw my other cat for a check-up a week later is also great; very caring and thorough. I've just moved to Bay Ridge and needed to find a new vet for my cats because one wasn't feeling well. One Love came highly recommended so I booked an appointment. Everyone was so sweet and funny and obviously loved the animals they were caring for and their human clients. I made friends in the waiting room - where does that ever happen? I'm seeing a lot of comments about this place being expensive and I couldn't disagree more.  I've spent a lot of time at a lot of vets with one of my cats and I can tell you that One Love's prices are very reasonable. Healthcare for pets isn't free and yeah, a serious medical condition can get really expensive really quickly. But you have to take care of your animals - they're your responsibility. They're going to cost money (maybe more than you can comfortably afford), they're going to get sick at inconvenient times, and you're going to have to be ready for that. I don't mean to sound heartless and uncaring, but I am suggesting that people might want to have an emergency fund for pet emergencies instead of complaining about prices. I love this place and am glad to have found it. Read Less

My cats and I lived in Brooklyn for one year while I was on internship. During the year, one of my cats had a series of urinary blockages and other health difficulties. It was very stressful for him to have so many health difficulties, especially when we were far from our normal vets. However, Dr. Tsang and the staff at One Love were more than helpful in helping me take the best care of my cat, Elmo, during this time. One Love coordinated with past out-of-state vets and Blue Pearl. Dr. Tsang always followed up, even when Elmo had to be hospitalized at another hospital (Blue Pearl) due to after-hours emergencies. Dr. Tsang also always took the time to explain Elmo's health difficulties to me and related options. I will always be appreciative to One Love for their support and care during our time in Brooklyn. I have been taking my Chihuahua to this vet for around 3 years and even though they are way overpriced I believed that they had my pet's best interest at heart.  I took my dog there this morning at 9 am, in a blind panic as she had blood in her urine coupled with diarrhea, and was informed that Daisy could not be seen until 3 pm unless I wanted to pay an additional fee of $150!  The girl at reception did not even ask how Daisy was doing she just talked about money $$$, and even suggested I go to an emergency vet in downtown Brooklyn!I ended up calling The Animal Clinic of Bay Ridge, and was encouraged to come in right away and that the Doctor would see her right there and then without any extra fees.  They were caring and compassionate, and charge a lot less than One Love.  Maybe this situation is a blessing in disguise, as now at least I know my dog will be taken care of by a veterinary practice who actually cares about my dog's wellbeing more than their wallet! Misdiagnosis, prescribing unnecessary medication and inconsistency between staff sums this place up. It seems to me that the business model at "One Love" revolves around repeat follow up visits and the strategy regarding treatment of animals brought to their facility is that of doing the least amount they seem necessary in a singular visit so the client keeps returning. I LOVE this place.  I genuinely believe that One Love is the best and most trustworthy vet in Bay Ridge.  I discovered that my cat had what looked like a deep puncture wound on his tail, and it looked infected.  I initially brought him to a different vet-- the one on 3rd Ave and 76th.  They told me that my cat needed surgery to lance it and put in drains, which also requires general anesthesia.  I was very concerned about this because my cat is 12 years old and I asked if this was really necessary and if we could just try antibiotics and let it heal on its own.  They said this would probably not work, and that he really needed the surgery.  I was not convinced and I didn't have a good feeling about this vet.  This vet seemed annoyed by my questions.  So I immediately called One Love.  Dr. Tsang at One Love told me that there was some grain of truth to what the previous vet said.... in bad cases, there is a possibility that the surgery to drain it is necessary, but that my cat's wound wasn't quite as bad, and that there was an excellent chance that it could heal on its own with just antibiotics.  So I went with just giving my cat antibiotics.  I went back to One Love for a follow up a week later, and Dr. D'Onofrio told me that it's healing beautifully, no longer infected, and no surgery necessary.  I probably just saved myself about $1000 by going to One Love instead of listening to the other vet.I am SO grateful that I went to One Love.  I definitely got the feeling that the first vet was just trying to sell me on things I didn't need in order to run up my bill.  But One Love genuinely gave me good advice and wasn't just trying to make my bill as high as possible.  It was my mistake not going to One Love in the first place.  From now on, I'll always go there. I brought my cat to One Love after he had a complication from a vaccination given by a different vet (I'd thought a different Bay Ridge housecall vet practice would be the best thing for my cat, but the care was very outdated and I learned my lesson!) Dr. D'Onofrio was able to see my little guy without much of a wait, and she was exactly what I want in a vet: knowledgeable and thorough and complimentary about my cat's cuteness. After a careful exam, she had all preventative costs printed out for my approval before moving forward. I didn't have any pressure about upselling or surprise costs. I also got my cat's test results the next day. This whole office seems to be really caring -- the reception staff went through my cat's records and immediately called his old vet for previous charts. Overall, I'd say One Love costs about $10-20 more per item (exam, bloodwork, etc.) than I've paid before but I'm willing to pay a little more to not get outdated medical advice/care again. It is a bummer not to have a gratis nail trim thrown in with each visit, but mostly because it's a PIA to do at home. Read Less

I had the pleasure of discovering One Love in Bay Ridge after a horrific experience with a local Vet. I had a cat with some severe dental disease and required surgery. Dr. D'Onofrio performed the surgery and our kitty is back to normal (albeit a few teeth short :D) and happy. I had another senior cat (scamp) who was struggling with asthma and they (Dr. D'Onofrio and Dr. Tsang) were very patient and helpful through out multiple visits. They were thorough and explained everything. They took the time with us to answer all our questions and I always left feeling like I was in a better position to understand my cat's issues. Unfortunately she is now passed away but because of another complication that she developed in her old age. One Love and Dr. D'Onofrio were very understanding of it being the end of my pets life. They were caring, patient and helped me make the best decision that I could. She and the Nurse (sorry i dont know her name) came to my apartment to help me through this so that my furry beast could be as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend anyone in the bay ridge area to bring their pets here. I have never seen such a caring and comfortable to go to vet in my 30+ years as a pet owner and multiple vets visited throughout the country. My praise is very high for this hospital. Thank you for all your help.Read Less

I have to say that I really wanted to like this practice. It's very convenient to where we live, it's clean, and the people are very kind and knowledgeable. My cat has been excessively vomiting for the past few days, so I brought her in for an exam. I admit that her vomiting was extreme, but I just spent $1,190.44 on testing to find out that nothing is wrong with her and the vomiting is passing on its own. I've expressed to the doctors many times that I can't afford anything unnecessary, but obviously since I love my cat I'll do whatever I can to find out what is wrong. I just wish that they had been more conservative with their guidance and saved me over a thousand dollars. I'm a student and am already wrecked with debt. I'm glad my cat is okay, but I think I need to find a doctor that doesn't jump to the worst case scenarios right off the bat, costing me an arm and a leg. Not cool. Read Less

I began taking my cat Brownie to One Love Animal Hospital in 2013. In early 2014 Dr. Donofrio put her on liquid Prednisone for her IBD and digestive problems. She went from skinny and sickly to a fairly normal and functional cat.  Since then I have had Brownie on Prednisone on a regular basis (1 dose every 48 hours).  For the entire time that she has had this prescription, I was paying $35 per prescription... until June 21, 2015. I had called in the prescription and when I went to pick it up, instead of the usual $35 that I pay each time, I was charged $77.00.  This just didn't sound right to me.  I asked the receptionist about it and she called the doctor on call. He told me he had no control over the pricing because his "boss" raised all the prices. I asked why... his explanation was that One Love Animal Hospital opened a location in Yorkville on the Upper East Side, so the Owner (his "boss") decided to raise all the prices.I said, "This isn't the Upper East Side." ... he just gave me a shamed look and said he couldn't do anything but write my complaint down to give to his boss. I told him, "You people keep sending me emails asking me to write you a nice review, this isn't going to help." ... same shamed look and response. I told him that this was just a bad business practice and that I would not bring my cat there again.  TL;DR: One Love Animal Hospital DOUBLED their medication prices without any warning or notice... just because their owner decided to open a new location on the UES. I've always had good experience with both the Bay Ridge and Atlantic Ave locations, no matter the vet.  What is consistent is that will always follow Dr. Katie G. for my cat Katie even to Bay Ridge which is not convenient for me.  She has this calming effect on my feline HCM psycho sweet biting scratching cat and manages to do a thorough exam whereas her previous vet at Atlantic never even got to see her teeth.  She is also minimally invasive, didn't recommend a gazillion things for my cat when she had bloody stools from eating aluminum foil.  We came up with a conservative plan together and she even gave credence to my instincts instead of being all super ego vet.   That means a lot, and my cat is doing much better without having spend a gazillion dollars.  I'm not giving them 5 stars because some services are super overpriced such as nail clippings and because the last 2 times when I've needed more meds for my cat I don't get calls when it is ready.   They have accommodated me when I've been the slacker and ran out of meds and needed them last minute, however.  I also wish the Doctors I see didn't change.  My first visit ever was to Dr. Ryan a few years ago but then they blew up and appointments with her are hard to come by.  The next vet moved to the Manhattan location.   I have no idea who I saw the last time though I had a good experience. This veterinarian office looks like a plastic surgery office in Beverly Hills. Very classy and elegant ambience. By far nicer office than most doctor offices I've been to. In the front, I am greeted by a friendly receptionist and a table with a tray of delicious cookies and beverages (coffee, tea, water.) Everything looks state of the art and looks like they put a lot of thought into decor. Just to see the vet, costs about $65. The vaccine/booster and such were about $45 each. The vet was friendly and explained about the vaccines in detail. My dog seemed to genuinely liked the vet and her assistant's warm embrace. My dog was not as anxious as she was at previous vet offices so that says a lot! Even if it costs an arm and a leg, I will continue coming back because of their friendly staff and how well they treat my dog. Read Less

Brooklyn New York 11209

Read Less

Read Less

First let me start by saying that Dr. D'onofrio rocks.  I know this place is overpriced and expensive, and if Dr. D'onofrio leaves the practice I'm leaving right with her.  She is an outstanding Veterinary Doctor. Dr. D'Onofrio took care of my 11 year old cat who had an awful staph infection and responded immediately to treatment.  My dog recently got neutered and they were patient and reassuring, they are accommodating and competent.  I really like them and yes they are pricey and my credit card is maxed but I will continue to support them. They can't even return phone calls in a timely fashion. Call back and prepare to be put on hold for 5-10 minutes. Read Less

Then I was going to neuter him and I had to take him for blood tests first which costed me almost 250 , now that I wanted to schedule his neutering they told me that the blood test is no longer valid and I have to take another one which no one ever told me it had a time limit or I wouldn't have spent 250 for nothing.
