I bring my two dogs to Dr Szacki and, she is very calming and patient. I highly recommend using her as a vet as she really loves dogs, and you can tell. There has been times where she sat on the floor and rubbed my dogs belly while examining her and not to mention she does a very thorough evaluation on your dog. She works with your budget, and prioritizes only the highest priority tests that she thinks your dog needs. Definitely a good vet who cares for her clients. Read Less

After four visits here we were unable to talk to a vet. Boris the shelter kitten (formerly Rupert, fostered from BAA) was first seen at PSVC, and even though it was a hike for us I brought him in here to preserve his care and because the shelter thinks highly of Dr. Szacki. Completed his shots and neuter here, and in the four visits including surgery and an elective round of tests to try and diagnose his litterbox rejection, I was unable to talk to Dr. Szacki or any vet after asking at each visit. The last time I asked last Friday, after his neuter and an expensive round of urine, blood and stool tests, I was told "Dr. Szacki will call you Monday." It's been a week now, no call, no explanation of the high protein count in his urine test. It also concerned that while Boris was boarded at PSVC, somebody called my at home to ask how he is doing. PSVC may be ok with clinical work and the staff seem ok, but without a vet checking in with patients, knowledge about a patient's physical location, or concern about abnormal test results and the stress that comes with litterbox rejection, Boris and I are out. The best vet in park slope ? DR SZACKI. Trust me I've seen SO MANY VETS IN THE PAST! I don't even live nearby anymore but I travel to see her. I wanted to wait to write this review until I was 100% I'm going to guide pet owners in the right direction. Initially I came here to see a random doctor who's name I will not mention. That doctor ended up messing up the urine sample for my dog and the only positive that came out of this was meeting dr szacki. She is a true gem and I'm so honored to have such a competent vet. She is not like most vets who are out for money... she genuinely cares and wants what's best for your dog. She treated my boxers UTI/KCS and my golden retrievers severe anxiety. I know it sounds BIZARRE to put a dog on anxiety medication but my dog had unlocked the door and left my apt multiple times. Thanks to dr szacki both my dogs are doing well. Staff is usually nice in making appointments especially for emergencies. After seeing dr szacki I referred her to my mother and my mom brings her dogs there. The doctor is always very professional and patient especially dealing with difficult situations. She had assisted with the euthanasia of one of my sick dogs and was very transparent that it was the best decision to put her to sleep while other vets wanted to take biopsies. If you have a dog or cat make an appointment with dr szacki! Leave extra time to find parking as it's very difficult. I can't say enough positive things about her and the office. She is very HONEST IF YOU NEED TO SEE A SPECIALIST and will not do something she isn't comfortable with.Lastly take the minimal amount of medication from the vet as it's upcharged ie: 30 days of a certain pill by the vet would be $42. Online it's less then 10 dollars... I think it's always like that so bear it in mind. Read Less

I just fucking called these people for help because my dog ate chocolate and don't know what to do. Not only was the woman rude, all she wanted to do was collect my card info BEFORE giving me advice on what I can do to save my dogs life. I simply asked what should I do and she just wanted to know if I can pay or not. I'm amazed anyone trusts these people to care for their dogs. These people don't care about the safety of animals. My cat recently fractured one of the bones in his hind leg and I brought him in for re-evaluation. While I had no issues with the vet and was seen on-time, the office environment is not conducive to the needs of a cat. A woman came in with her dog and her two very young children (a baby and a toddler). The dog was well -behaved but her children were very loud given that they were so young. Because there was very little separation between the waiting room and the evaluation room, their crying could be heard through the walls. This stressed my already nervous cat even more. To the point that he was shaking on the examination table. Since he was being evaluated for a fractured leg, I had to take extra care to make sure he didn't try to bolt off the table. Read Less

They may have a nice staff but why even MAKE APPOINTMENTS if you can't hold to them? They saw my cat an HOUR late and i didn't like the way the vet was digging around in his ear. I've been told by previous vets never to use qtips, even "just on the outside" like she told me she was. One qtip for a sample, sure, but trying to clean his ear with 3-4 qtips and NO EARWASH? My poor baby's ear is so red... Anyways. They may have the best prices in the neighborhood, when i have to take either of my cats to the vet again, and can afford it, i will be looking elsewhere. Just wanted to leave some appreciation for the team at Park Slope Veterinary Center.  I took in a new cat recently, and had to make two stops up to the office to ensure she was healthy and was not going to surprise me down the road with a positive pregnancy test. From the office staff to the vet techs to the other visiting animals, everything was really smooth.  Appointments that start on time, knowledgeable team members, and easy free parking in front of the hydrant across the street, the entire process was as smooth as could be.I didn't get too many names, but to the tech who first saw her (Mark (?)) on the first visit and Veronica on the second, thanks much! Two days ago, my cat developed heart failure. I took her in to see Dr Szacki and the first indication I had of how critical Betty was, was seeing Dr. Szacki's face fall in empathetic concern. I had no idea my cat's condition would shortly be fatal but seeing the sadness wash over the doctor's face somehow prepared me for what was coming. Later that day, Betty left me. I so appreciate the personal involvement both for me, and for Betty. It made me feel less alone in a terrible situation. This is not the kind of review one would expect, but to have such support from Dr. Szacki, a deeply caring vet, made me know I will never go anywhere else than Park Slope for my other pets. Read Less

About a week ago I called to schedule an appointment for a wellness exam and vaccinations for my 2 year old cat. My appointment was at 11:30am this morning and about 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment, as I was already on my way there in an Uber, I received a call asking if I could come in later because they had several emergency visits at the office. I said that it would be difficult for me since I took time off work for this appointment and I asked how long would it be until they could see my cat. They gave me a ROUGH estimate of 2 hours and when I expressed that I was literally a block away in an Uber and I had taken time off work to go to this appointment, all they told me was that they only had two doctors working and one was in surgery. Whoever I spoke with was not only rude and unsympathetic, she asked me if I still wanted to come in for my appointment later and I said yes but it's 5:43pm and I haven't heard from her yet...I think it's incredibly unprofessional to give notice 20 minutes prior to an appointment that it will have to be rescheduled. I understand that emergencies happen and there isn't enough bandwidth sometimes but there was another doctor available and if there was a 2+ hour wait for my cat to be seen, there was definitely enough time to be called sooner. I don't know what the services here are like but I definitely won't be recommending this place to anyone just based off of the unprofessionalism alone. Read Less

By far the best vet experience of any I've had. It's been hard to find a practice that I can trust and I'm so glad I found this place. Actually first came here as a dog foster - this vet center partners with various rescue groups to help care for rescued dogs and cats (which is awesome).  Dr. Szacki is great!! Everyone else there is too. And their prices are super reasonable, esp. for park slope. Not the closest vet to me by any means, but I will continue to take the trip for peace of mind knowing I'm not paying exorbitant prices for procedures and tests my dog doesn't need. Highly recommend! I first went here when our neighborhood vet closed about 4 years ago.  I started going to a closer vet, though recently returned.  Dr. Szacki seems to bring a large body of clinical expertise to her work: if there is a discrepancy between her clinical observations and blood test results, she raises those issues. She discovered that my neighborhood vet had misdiagnosed my cat with kidney disease, and that my cat is actually fine to proceed with the dental work that he needs.  (To be fair, I should have done it a year or two ago, but as a working mom, it's actually been 2 1/2 years since I've been to the dentist myself.  Partly because my dentist died 1 1/2 years ago.  I'm going to a new dentist next week.  I promise.)My visit with her cost the same as my visit with my neighborhood vet, but it was much more time-intensive, and I came away understanding all of my options, rather than feeling like there was only one way to proceed, and that she would be making the choices for me.  She does seem to charge less for the dental work than my neighborhood vet, and hopefully that will actually be the case.  She also has openings to do the dental work, whereas neighborhood vet didn't have openings for more than 2 months.  My friend also takes his cat here, and he recommends highly too.  The only downside of this vet is transportation: it's 10 blocks away from the subway and parking in the area isn't easy. We called to make an appointment for our dog Olive as we were aware she probably had an ear infection, something we have dealt with before as her ears are floppy.  Upon arrival Olive was taken and seen by a doctor and for the first time told the word "exam."Once Olive had her ears cleaned and was ready to go with her medication at payment there was an extra $60 fee (totaling $150) on there for a doctor exam. Not one conversation until in the room had there been a mention of exam and we were shocked...now for a lot of you rich people this is nothing, but we are young and broke and trying to make it in the city...We asked why we were being charged an exam fee when we only came in to have her ears checked out and get meds, and we were told that that is standard a doctor has to see her in an exam.  This isn't the case however, as Olive has had ear problems before and they took her to the back cleaned her up and gave us the meds and charged us just for the cleaning and the meds (roughly $90).I repeat, no words were ever mentioned for exam. As we are money conscious, we would have had to have figured out how to get the extra money before taking her in.After speaking to an employee I was told this is routine, and an argument ensued followed by multiple excuses after I met every claim of hers regarding appointments and how they run.  She then proceeds to tell me because I adopted my dog I should be aware there are going to be things needed (DUH) and that I'm making a big deal out of something so small.Today, $60 can mean a lot to different people, and she went on to infer that I am a bad pet owner because I feel there was no clarity on the part of the person who made the appointment.I gladly offered to pay for the ear cleaning and the meds, but she decided to refuse my dog the prescription because I wouldn't pay for something I didn't ask for.  That is messed up. NOW SHE IS PUTTING MY DOG'S HEALTH AT RISK. There was miscommunication, misinformation, we were going off of what we had had before. NO "EXAM" FOR AN EAR CHECK.  Had someone said she will need the exam we would have tried to figure the extra money part out.  But in the mean time my dog doesn't have the meds she needs.  That is this woman who I spoke withs fault (and apparently I'm the bad parent...yet she's withholding medication that we were going to pay for).Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but whatever happened to "the customer is always right," and not telling pet owners that they are bad.  She should have taken responsibility for the mistake, made it right by allowing us to pay for what we assumed we were getting based on previous experience, and had a conversation with the entire team on how they can be more clear on the phone to customers.I'm taking Olive to a different vet tomorrow. It sucks when you want to support a local business, but the business sucks (maybe the woman I spoke to is just a bad egg). And one more time, $60 means a lot to different people, and I'm not a bad dog parent because I try to make things as affordable as possible for the dog I adopted.Shame on whoever I spoke to.**after reading the comment from the company let's get some things straight. The free exam is provided to any dog adopted from Animal Care Control...while appreciated it wasn't as if you singled me out for free service. And I have paid for service at your place before. The problem is inconsistency. I'm pissed because we take her in one time and it's one price and the next time for the same thing and it's $60 more. And at no point was there ever any talk of seeing a doctor or an exam until it was happening. And you are so demeaning talking about financial restraints. $60 bucks is decent dinner out. It's not a bag of Doritos. There was clearly a miscommunication and inconsistency with policy. Whether it was wrong the first time or right the second time, what matters is we were going off of what service we had previously had.  You should have admitted there was a mistake, rectified the situation, and made your team be more clear when booking. I'm not the only one on here to say you try to rip people off. And again, I offered to pay for the services I asked for and you refused to give my dog the medication she needs. That's messed up. Do vets not take the Hippocratic oath, in your case it's the hypocritical oath. Lame joke, but relevant. I obviously know my dog will have bills and I will do whatever it takes to look after her the best I can. But I won't be ripped off by someone who thinks they can call their clients bad per parents and be inconsistent with pricing, not to mention unclear.PS it's NYC and parking is a bitch. You can leave early or late and not make it on time. Your jabs are petty. And you put an animal at risk for further infection. Read Less

I am new to NY, and I have to say one of the very first things I worried about was finding a good vet for my cats. However, when one of my cats started having horrible stomach issues, I was lucky enough to find PSVC on Yelp and see all the good reviews. I was already anxious about what was going on, and Dr. Hillenbrand really put my mind at ease. She answered all my questions, didn't make me feel crazy for being worried, and outlined a specific course of action to take- thinking short and long term. Something I also appreciated is that as she outlined the course of action, she also outlined cost- which is really helpful because things can get out of hand financially with a vet visit very quickly! So I had all the info needed to make a decision. She then called a couple of days later to follow up on how my cat was doing. Unfortunately, the first course of action/treatment did not fix the issue, but she helped figure out a solution that "took" and he is in much better spirits these days. I am very glad to have found them, and even better they are in the neighborhood. I will not hesitate going back when needed.Update: I had to go back at another point for the same issue with my cat and met with Dr. Szacki. It was a process to get him well. She was amazing, kind, and knowledgeable and my cat has had no more issues since! I'm really thankful that I have a great vet to go to now and I highly recommend. Read Less

They have also been great with following up to make sure the cats are doing well and answering any questions that I've had.Overall, I feel the prices I have paid have been very reasonable, and worth every penny for the service received! Both doctors are very good about explaining costs before continuing with procedures, so there are no surprises at the end of the visit. Dr. Hildenbrand really went above and beyond in helping me to find resources to help defray the costs of my cat's surgery and get him set up with a surgeon as quickly as possible. The worst experience ever! The vet here is money hungry and will bill you something completely different from what was told to you. There are ridiculous hidden charges and then they can care less when it is brought up. The way they handled my dog in the visit after I brought it up was HORRIBLE. There was no care for my dog. I would recommend that any animal lover not go here. She is a monster with a uniform on! You have been warned. Read Less

Not only is this business one that is money hungry and will bill you for breathing too hard in the place, I hate the way they handled my dog. My dog was handled very rough and without care once I brought to their attention that they over charged me for my last 2 visits...Then my dog had to pay. They then refused to release my dogs medical records once I tried to find another vet. This place is HORRIBLE. Please find someone else that truly loves animals and doesn't just put on an act to collect as much money from you as possible. Beware of this place, but I was shocked it even happened. Dr. Szacki is by far the most professional, experienced, compassionate, and loving vet I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I lived in the same building where the office was located and decided to switch to Dr. Szacki because of our first visit. That was roughly 5 years ago and I would never change a thing. Her and the staff here are absolutely amazing. My senior Siberian Husky had several health issues from skin infections, tumors, arthritis, and thyroid complications among other things. When other vets said my dog only had a short period of time due to his health problems, I went to see Dr. Szacki for a second opinion and she not only eased my level of concern, but extended my dog's life another 5 years. From diet changes, surgeries, proper medication, and after care treatment, Dr. Szacki showed true expertise in her field. Just recently, Monday June 13th, 2016, my baby boy had to be put to rest due to health complications. Dr. Szacki and her staff was attentive, caring, comforting, and beyond professional. She walked me through the full procedure and ensured a peaceful journey. She even cried with me. As difficult as it was, I would have never gotten through it if it wasn't for her. If you are looking for a professional, experienced, loving, caring, and compassionate vetinarian, don't look any further. I promise you - her and her team are angels in disguise.Read Less

The good folks at Park Slope Veterinary Center are absolutely wonderful. Dr. S is the kindest vet I've ever encountered - she truly loves animals and was so helpful with the cat we are fostering. She takes a conservative approach to helping your pet, and follows up with you on next steps. She took the extra steps to make kitty more comfortable in her carrier, and gave us a discount because we are fostering an abandoned housecat. I will be going here moving forward for all my pet needs, as it is a quiet and calm environment, and I feel they do have your pet's best interest in mind. I've give 6 stars if I could! Read Less

The receptionist was friendly, and Dr. Szacki was incredibly warm, insightful, and genuinely cared about my cat's well being. She showed me exactly how to care for his teeth, something that other vets had never taken the time to do. She talked me through every detail with care, and was incredibly sweet with my cat. Simply the best experience we have ever had with a veterinarian. Dr. Hildenbrand is incredible. We have lived everywhere from LA to DC, and had access to some of the best vets in the areas, but she by far has surpassed them all. I simply do not know how she does it. Not only do our pets (aka our children) receive exceptional care during the visit, she always calls to follow up and always makes herself available to personally return our phone calls anytime we have a question. My partner and I often joke that if ever we had to leave Brooklyn that we would take her with us as our personal vet. With a beloved senior cat having been diagnosed with kidney disease ten months ago, I couldn't ask for a better veterinarian. Dr. Szacki has been treating my orange tabby for a couple of years now and has gone to great lengths to provide the most optimal care. Though my cat may put up a bit of a fuss--not too much, really--prior to leaving for a check up, once he gets to PSVC he becomes instantly relaxed once Dr. Szacki's showers him with her coaxing personality, unrushed attention, and tender-loving care. Then again, my cat has always been somewhat of a lady's man and knows how to elevate the feline charm and get human fingers to caress the spots he adores. My cat and I have been inseparable ever since I got him a month after the 9/ll attacks--having been displaced because of that awful event--and when he's happy, I'm happy. It doesn't get any simpler. I would highly recommend PSVC to anyone in search of a reliable veterinarian.

Read Less

Read Less

Best vet I've ever been to after many years of owning dogs. I came to Yelp to look at biz hours so I could make an appointment, and after seeing some of the 1 star reviews I had to comment. Whenever my dog has had any issues, even on very short notice, they've carved out some time to see her. Everyone from the receptionists to the nurses to the doctors have been nothing but spectacular. They've even gotten on the phone with my pet insurance to work out billing issues, without being asked. I wouldn't go anywhere else with my dog in the neighborhood at this point, I've had nothing but excellent experiences. Read Less

Read Less

I think this might have been the rudest two receptionists I've ever dealt with in my New York career! We have a new baby kitten needing a physical exam and had a free exam certificate from the ACC- they were inflexible by offering me only a few time slots all during work hours and never would call back with any alternatives (after multiple follow up calls). I wish I could give a 10 star review! I can say that without a doubt, Park Slope Veterinary Center is THE BEST practice I've ever been to. Though I've only had my first visit, I know I will be bringing my pets here for as long as I can! From the moment I scheduled an appointment, walked through the door, filled out paper work, met with the vet tech, Victoria, met with Dr. Hildenbrand, and paid for my visit, I was treated with respect, a smile, and I NEVER WAS RUSHED (huge gold star for that)!!  Dr. Hildenbrand is AWESOME and was so amazing at handling my cat. From her calm and genuine demeanor I sensed that she truly cares and wants the best for my pet. She answered all of the questions I had without making me feel like I was taking up her time. Unlike other veterinary hospitals in the area, PSVC didn't give her vaccinations she already had (yikes)! They made me feel so welcomed, comfortable, and at ease. They were honest, efficient, genuine, knowledgeable, and positive! What more could you ask for a Vet and their staff?! Dr. Szacki, Dr. Hildenbrand and all of the staff at PSVC have been wonderful in helping me to care for my 2 cats when they have been sick or injured. I cannot say enough how happy and grateful I am for the treatment my pets have received. Both doctors were very thorough and caring with my pets, and also with helping me to understand their ailments and the next steps for treatment and recovery.
