We've asked multiple times for our pet's file. They won't send the whole thing. It's really bizarre. We literally just want a copy of his last couple of blood panels and either the front desk staff are incompetent or something shady is going on. They've said they'll recommend a new diet. It's been 4 days, and keep pushing it off, saying they'll get back to us. Unclear about next steps in treating our senior cat. Vet mentioned one thing in a call, then didn't mention it again. If our cat has IBD, he needs steroids. If that's not the diagnosis, do we need to keep him on Zofran, etc. Just all around disappointing, but they're 2 blocks away, so... Read Less

If you want a place that prioritizes your pets over money, then please look elsewhere. This is not the place. The doctor spent 3 minutes with me out of the 120 minutes I was there and charged me $300 in additional charges. Prior to my appointment, I called to ask how much it would cost for my dog to be certified to travel internationally. The receptionist said it would be $220 for the two appointments and would not include any additional charges. They initially told me that they would charge me $110 per appointment, but I got slapped with an extra $300 only after the second appointment. Imagine calling a business to inquire about costs and receiving a figure that’s only 40% of the total. Not even after the first appointment did they send me an estimate or mention the additional $300 fee. This business is super efficient at collecting their money, way more than any other vet I've been to, but they lack transparency and integrity. They send you texts with links so you pay in advance for all appointments or deposits. When I disputed this surprise $300 fee, I only asked for them to refund one of the appointments ($110). I would still give them the $110 for the first appointment and the $300 for the USDA, but they still refused. They wouldn't even budge for $100 dollars despite their lack of clarity throughout the whole process. And this is the part that broke my heart. They told me they would not be moving forward with the certification because they didnt feel "comfortable” — effectively stranding my dog for three months without me. I asked the manager how she felt working for bosses that were this callous about putting a dog on the line for 3 months because they couldn’t even recognize $100 (I wasn't even asking for $300). I asked her if she felt this was unethical and how she felt working with people like that. She was shaking, and I could tell she wasn't happy there. It was clear she was just in a tough position of being the messenger. What kind of veterinarian office tells you that you need to pay this surprise $300 fee because there is no option to go to another vet anymore? An exploitative one. The vet had already witnessed my dog taking his anti tick medicine, so I couldn't go to another vet and repeat that. If I didn’t pay the fee, I would effectively be forced to leave my dog in NYC while I would need to be on another continent for 3 months. I had no choice but to sign the waiver they presented, stating that I would not dispute the bill. I repeat: If you want to go to a place that cares about your pets and not about money, don't go to Vinegar Hill. The doctor spent 3 minutes with me out of the 120 minutes I was there (yes two hours, the first with lots of waiting and the second with back and forth between the manager and me as she went to compare notes withe her bosses). Just avoid this place. It's not for people who love their pets. Read Less

We just moved to Clinton Hill and this vet was recommended to us by several people. I brought my dog here because it was pretty obvious he had an ear infection, and he just happened to be due for his annual checkup. The vet tech took us back into an exam room that was dimly-lit and sterile-feeling. I was plying my dog with the treats they had on the counter because he was really nervous. The vet tech couldn't find my dog's bumhole to take his temperature (??) and then when she went to swab his ear, my dog flinched and squealed (he's in pain, duh) and ran away. This *flabbergasted* her - it was like she had never seen anything like it. She asked if she could take him in the back so another tech could help swab his ear (???) and I reluctantly agreed. I could hear "the back" on the other side of the door, which involved said vet tech shouting my dog's name, saying "NO!" multiple times, and using the F word. It was appalling. Dr. Stein was professional, nice enough but didn't give my pup any treats to try to warm him up to him which is what vets have done in the past, so my dog was nervous the whole time. The doctor said there might be something more concerning wrong with him (he had thrown up twice, once I said was because he ate something off the sidewalk and the other was I figured because he was dizzy from the bad ear infection) but said we could hold off on doing an ultrasound or blood work. Glad I did because it was just an ear infection. Then, we needed refills for Heartgard that I ordered online right after this visit, and their office declined it because one of the vets was looking at the chart for a different dog with the same name who was much smaller than my dog. Kind of concerning that they don't have a better system for tracking dogs with the same name. Definitely won't be going back - the vet tech alone was enough to ruin this place for me. Read Less

I had a home visit for a terminally ill pet.  We felt it was the best choice for our pet, who gets very stressed by travel, but frankly, we were nervous about the level of care that would be possible in our house and our comfort level with a team of strangers coming in to work in our home. A vet and vet tech arrived together, and the vet had read our pets records from another facility (which they obtained themselves, the same day as our appointment), and arrived informed about our pet's condition and our concerns.  The visit was professional but friendly, attentive to our pets immediate needs, and respectful and responsive to our concerns and goals as owners in providing the best quality of life in our pet's final days.  We knew that our pet had an imminent terminal prognosis, and we appreciated that the team was respectfully blunt about agreeing with the prognosis and supporting our efforts to provide comfort care (rather than long term treatment or a cure).  Each part of the exam was explained and each intervention was described with pros and cons, before we made any choices.  We never felt rushed, the vet even brushed our pet, which, I think might have been as much for our comfort as for our pet.  I was extremely satisfied with both the clinical care, the business experience of the arranging for the visit and the billing, the compassion shown for our animal and the respect shown for us as pet owners.  NYC is a big place, with a lot of quality vet services, but this would be my choice again for any non-emergency or routine care, and I would not hesitate to use them again for this, or any of our other pets.  I wish I could get human care house calls that were this good. I feel welcomed and in well guided hands when it comes to the care of my pets. I've had to make both tough desicons on three occasions and currently assuming complete care for our family geriatric cat. Never once have I felt alone in every step of the way. Amazing, humble staff from the ladies at the front desk, the assistants  , and the gracious doctors. My dog, Waffles, got really sick not once but twice this summer. (The first time was quite dramatic, she woke up unable to walk, I had to carry her in, etc.) Both times, I was seen immediately. The only determining factor was "How soon can you get here." Both times she was treated with total love and kindness from the entire staff—and she's a very NERVOUS animal, so it's not like she's the easiest patient. Every possibility was considered, and a full range of logical options was presented before proceeding with diagnoses and treatments before any costs were incurred. I'm moving deeper into Brooklyn next month, but there is no way I'm switching vets. This team is too great at what they do. I know that being a vet is a really tough job, but I'm never surprised when my son says "I think I want to be a vet" after accompanying me here. (Lastly, they keep a blind ferret that a patient could no longer care for! I mean, this is why we live in NYC. So our awesome vets can have an awesome blind ferret to visit. She wears a bell around her neck to prevent accidents and I'd like to take her home.) Read Less

When my first dog suddenly became very ill with terminal cancer, I was recommended by a friend to reach out to vinegar hill vet group for a second opinion. Though their diagnoses was the same, I was so touched by the doctor's phone call, and bedside manner that I decided my next pet would be a client of theirs. Fast forward two dogs later, and I have never been happier with a veterinary group. Their staff is so kind, patient, accommodating, and lovely. Every staff member always goes above and beyond what any other vet in NYC offers. Though it is a little pricey, I wouldn't ever go anywhere else. I had a very positive experience with Vinegar Hill today with my sick hamster. After dealing with another vet hospital that messed up our appointment with them, we had to look around last minute to find a clinic with a hamster-treating vet on staff and available today. Vinegar Hill was able to take us as a walk-in, and their entire staff from reception to nurses to doctor were kind and friendly with a good sense of humor. They were able to take a look at my baby and provide us with solid information about treatment, along with realistic expectations about her condition. They answered all my and my partner's questions and sent us home with clear instructions for her care and some antibiotics to hopefully treat her condition, and they welcomed us to call them any time we have any further questions. In addition, their rates were actually much more affordable than our previous vet, which we appreciated deeply because this was not an easy amount for us to spend due to our finances. Our total for the exam and a small bottle of antibiotics for two weeks was $112 and change.I sincerely appreciated their care and will gladly be returning in the future should we ever have need for a vet again. Don't come here if you have a rabbit or any other exotic pets. After my rabbit got into a serious fight with my other rabbit and part of her ear was torn off I came here as an emergency to get her seen. They took a look at her and said it wasn't as bad as they thought but insisted that she needed surgery because her cartilage was exposed and they need to sew whatever was left of her skin. I skeptic to do so because this would mean she would need to go under anastasia and might not wake up due to the fact that she's is an older rabbit. When I asked the vet if she has ever sewn a rabbit's skin before, she responded no but her assistant (who is an expert with exotic pets) would be there to help her. Well guess what, when the vet's assistant walk through the door was when my nightmare really kicked into full gear. Instead of focusing on my rabbit's ear, the vet's assistant kept on lecturing me how my rabbit must never ever see the other rabbit again and how I need to feed my rabbit hay and veggies while only a minimal of pellets. Like wtf! I here for my rabbit's ear. Then she went on and said I need to make an executive decision to do surgery immediately or else my rabbit might die of an ear infection. I told her I'm still waiting for my roommate to give the okay on the surgery because my rabbit is co-shared. Apparently waiting on my roommate, who was traveling internationally, to get back to me was too time precious for them especially because they said I arrived late.  Eventually they decided not to wait on me anymore. The vet's assistant then marched back into the room to lecture me some more and proceed to take my rabbit and said she's will clean my rabbit's ear up and I can go to the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan to wait there for my roommate to get back. In the end, I did take my rabbit to the AMC and the doctor there was baffled as to why they even sent me to them. They said my rabbit did not need surgery because it was a clean cut and that they didn't want to mess with the ear and rather let her ear recover naturally. He even consulted with his colleague who had experience on exotic pets and they all agreed with him. As for Vinegar Hill, they really need to stop giving this vet assistant so much decision power to decide whether my rabbit needed surgery or not. I would definitely not come back here again and I don't think anyone with exotic pets should either. They seem very eager to preform surgery at anything that walks through the door instead of really accessing the situation. Oh and one more thing, when I was waiting in the room for my roommate to call back, I can hear that vet's assistant yelling at the other workers how they shouldn't let me wait so long and said what is wrong with me and do I want my rabbit's ears to fall off or what. Once again, talk about sensitivity. They seriously lack it especially that vet's assistant. And what piss me off most that the doctor herself couldn't even bother coming in the room to talk to me and left all the decision making to this vet assistant instead. Read Less

Most horrible vet service. They claim they see birds but they have no idea how to handle or diagnose birds. I brought in my beautiful baby canary for consultation and they killed him. The technician couldn't fetch him out of the cage, then left with a container cover open and he flew out out of the container. Then the so called veterinarian, Dr. Reichard, came in and didn't know how to diagnose my bird. They took him to trim his nails and he went into a cardiac arrest and passed away. I brought in my baby bird for a consultation to the medics and he caught death in their hands. The doctor told me that she doesn't know much about birds and has some knowledge only based on what she read on the internet. They should stop advertising that they see animals other than dogs and cats. They only know about dogs and cats. It has been the most devastating visit to the vet! Do not take your pet birds to them! The so called veterinarian there, Dr Reichard, is the worst vet I have ever encountered. I have been going to Vinegar Hill Vet Group since 2008 and am very pleased with their services. I love and respect Dr. Neuman and think she's an excellent and compassionate vet. She's been great with correctly diagnosing my cats' and dogs' medical issues through the years (which is an art, I think. I know of vets who shy away from giving a firm diagnosis and will "refer" pet clients to other "specialists" rather than make a firm diagnosis.)The other vets are all good, too, so you're in good hands with any of the doctors at Vinegar Hill. I also like the vet techs (really know their stuff) as well as the support staff. I do have quite a bit of experience (over 30 years!!) with animal rescue and have been owned by several cats, dogs (and horses, rabbits, guinea pigs) along with wildlife rescue, so I've visited a number of vets in Brooklyn and Manhattan when I decided to choose Vinegar Hill as my pets' primary vets. The good folks at Vinegar Hill treat me with respect and empathy.  I've seen some comments about prices but honestly, you get what you pay for. If you try to cut corners, your beloved pet could suffer the consequences. I've heard of people going to pet store vets only to turn around and go to Vinegar Hill because of a bad experience at a cheaper vet practice. So then you end up paying twice the cost!I plan to continue bringing my fur family to Vinegar Hill for the foreseeable future. Read Less

I understand that my experience must be somewhat of an outlier but I think I should share it anyway, on the off-chance that other people out there have chinchillas or other exotics. If you do happen to have a chinchilla or other small exotic I highly recommend the Carrol Gardens vet group, because they actually know what they are doing and don't charge you multiple hundreds of dollars. The doctor there is super knowledgeable and handles the animal deftly and carefully. Here are the reasons I am dissatisfied with Vinegar Hill:1. The staff and the doctor at Vinegar Hill had no idea what they were doing with my chinchilla (they let him escape twice and just watched dumbly as he freaked out all over the room forcing me to chase and catch him, which is super stressful for a chinchilla).2. I agreed to a minor exam after having seen the exorbitant price tag, only to go up to the front desk and find out that it was going to be EVEN MORE expensive than what they quoted me.3. I then received a phone call a day later demanding nearly one hundred dollars more on top of that, in order for them to START the consultation they had already committed to. Feels like they're holding my pet's life ransom.4. I still have no idea what is wrong with my chinchilla, because THE DOCTOR WAS SO IGNORANT OF CHINCHILLAS THEY SENT ALL THE RESULTS TO ANOTHER VET AND CHARGED ME EXORBITANTLY FOR THEIR DISHONESTY. Why couldn't they just tell me the truth, save me nearly $400 and tell me to see someone who knows what they're doing?!I am pretty peeved, if you couldn't tell, and would absolutely never bring an exotic to this office again in my life!! I love this vet practice. I searched long and hard to find a vet for my dogs and cats that I trusted and liked. I discovered Vinegar Hill when a vet friend of mine, who now lives out of state, recommended them. I use this practice because: 1) Appointment times are kept. It is never a long wait from the time I'm scheduled to be seen to when I am actually sen. 2) The doctors care. They want to hear about my pets' histories and find the best solutions to their health issues. I never feel rushed when meeting with a doctor. 3) They don't up sell. I never get sold on medications/vaccinations/ treatments that my animals don't need or I didn't ask for. 4) They are respectful of my decisions. I never feel judged or shamed for the course of treatment I choose (or don't choose). All in all, Vinegar Hill has been the best fit in my life for my pets needs. Read Less

I have had no luck with previous vets that I have taken my female guinea pig to over the years.  They were always in a rush, didn't listen to me on how best to handle my pet, or even got mad at me when I got emotional.  I am so so so happy that I found this place.  I met with Dr. McGettigan and she was so patient and kind with my 5 year old guinea pig (who tends to be very grumpy with vets and grabbing in general).  She does have ovarian cysts, so I am hoping the treatment works and that my pig is able to recover without surgery.  But I am so grateful that I found this vet that I feel comfortable going to with her and my other piggies. I called multiple vets in my area but none had experience with rabbits. My bunny hasn't been feeling well for 2-3 days (not eating much, not pooping the right size, cold ears). I had to get her to a vet as soon as possible. I called this place today at 12pm and was able to book an appointment for 3pm. I brought my bunny in we were seen right away. Her temperature was checked and it was only 97 degrees (anything under 100 is a bad sign for bunnies). They gave her an injection and provided me with new grass hay as well as 2 medicines and 1 bunny oatmeal to use when she doesn't feel like eating her regular food. They also took samples of her poop and said they will get back to me with the results to see if she has any parasites in her body that may be causing her sickness. The bill was really expensive. Over $300. But who wouldn't be willing to pay as much as they can to get their pet feeling better again? Read Less

I miss Vinegar Hill Veterinary!!!! I've since moved to the UWS but used to take my two babies to see Amy Adelman. She is the cutest, sweetest veterinarian. I think she loves animals so much that if she got mauled by a tiger, she would brush off the incident as animal nature and still try to take care of the tiger. I could tell she was enchanted by my gorgeous Callisto during the checkup. It's funny but that's kind of important to me. It looks like she knows how to handle cats is firm but gentle and efficient. Amy is extremely thorough; the visits are never "quick." The two times(?) I've gotten my kitties checked up there, I've left with a laundry list of items to monitor or correct. Seems like cats experience a good amount of tooth decay these days and Amy encouraged some preventive brushing. She was also very good about emailing back promptly. I had some follow up questions because one of my kitties has IBS, I believe. So initially there was some investigation into whether it was worms or not.The checkup was $80 per kitty and then $40 for rabies shots about 2 yrs ago. Not bad at all. I don't remember how much it was for special tests I got done for one of their stool samples. Lastly, Vinegar Hill makes things super convenient. They sent me a couple reminders for rabies shots but I had moved to the UWS by then. =( Also they faxed over the records for my two babies to Symphony Vet Center the same day. Read Less

I'll start by saying that my dog Lu doesn't immediately connect with many people, she is the sweetest dog in the world but she takes time to warm up to people. This is even more true with vets. This being said, she immediately warmed up to Dr. Newman. I have been taking Lu here for years, and every time she has enjoyed it more than I enjoy my own doctors appointments. To give you an idea of how comfortable she feels here, Dr. Newman was even able to clean her teeth without using anesthesia which is no easy task at all. This review is for Dr. Palatt and the very sweet Jessica at the front desk.I had to write a review in case any other person is looking for a vet for their turtle!!I have a turtle that I've had since I was young and he never had any issues that needed me to bring him to a vet. This past Thanksgiving he was not looking and acting like himself and I got really nervous that he was experiencing symptoms of an upper respiratory infection. I went crazy looking for exotic vets who know about turtles and after little sleep and lots of YELP searching, I found Vinegar Hill. When I called up at 8 AM on the Friday after Thanksgiving, Jessica informed me that ALL of the vets here are exotic vets and any one of them could see him. What a relief! The cost was a bit higher than some other quoted places, but I would pay whatever to make sure he was ok. Dr. Palatt was super sweet and gentle with my fiesty little guy (thankfully he was looking better this morning) and she was able to give him a couple injections to facilitate his improvements. She also emailed me with tons of information to help with changing his habitat and diet as he is getting older (he's like 21!) and might need more attention and care.I am very grateful my buddy is feeling better and I am thankful to Vinegar Hill for putting my mind at ease. Worth it! :) Read Less

Let me preface this review by saying that I worked at Vinegar Hill several years ago. I worked with amazing people and will always value my time there, but this review is based solely on my experience as a pet owner. My sweet doxie Basil started displaying some sniffly symptoms and Dr. Neuman treated him for a cold. His symptoms got worse so we returned and after an xray my worst fear was confirmed. We lost him within two months.  There are no words to express the terror and grief you feel when you are losing your best friend in such a horrible way. It was the most painful experience of my life and there is NO WAY I could have gotten through it without Dr. Neuman, Jean and the team at VH.Dr. Neuman helped me accept Basil's fate and focus on making him as comfortable as possible. She answered every question and gave me advice as not just a vet, but a pet owner. Having worked with Dr. N for several years, I know this wasn't special treatment - she offers the same love and attention to all of her clients. The care that I received from the entire staff is no fluke - they work hard to give the best care possible. I still make the commute out to DUMBO for my current doxie, bc I can't imagine getting better care anywhere else. Read Less

After literally running to the office, I found my dog being driven to a veterinarian hospital by two young girls playing music extremely loud in the car, while my dog's eyes were rolling back in her head. My puppy then spent the next day in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital and now has in incision that covers her entire underside, which was closed with staples. I live in the Midwood section of Brooklyn and bring all my cats to Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group. I have Ferals and Friendlies and Fosters. Right now I have 35 cats in my household. Drs Neuman and Pizillo are wonderful women and , more to the point, excellent vets. They have taken the time to discuss my cats' illnesses and answer all my questions regarding whatever issues I address. the are available for phone consultations and by e-mail to follow up, to answer questions, and to review any information I may have found confusing or may need addional information. When dealing with fatal illnessed, they are warm, loving, caring and compassionate. Their chief technician, a character to be sure, is one of the most effecient, knowledgeable and competent caretakers I have ever worked with. Behind a rather brusk exterior, she is compassionate and attentive, taking the necessary time to ensure that both human and animal receive the best care available, even keeping track of my meter time. All the office staff are friendly and helpful. The phones are answered in a timely manner; all of the technicians are competent and caring. At other veterinary clinics I have been left to wait for well over an hour, then a tech comes into the waiting room to take a history or do a preliminary exam. This has never happened at Vinegar Hill. Although I have waited a short time on occassion, because of an emergency, I have been treated with courtesy and respect, and brought into an examining room immediately when one was available. Although I live in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, and have many vets closer, I am happy to make the trip to Vinegar HIll to ensure the best possible care and treatment for my cats. Read Less

Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group is an excellent animal hospital and Dr. Neuman and Dr. Pizzillo are wonderful, caring veterinarians. I bring all my pets (3 cats, 1 dog, 2 turtles to see them) as well as the many animals I have rescued and adopted out. The office and hospital staff is very helpful and both doctors work very hard to be accessible - often updating me and answering questions via email - very convenient with a busy schedule. I have worked with many veterinarians over the years. I believe it is important to develop a trusting relationship with my veterinarian. I don't know what is going on inside my pet and I need to feel confident that the doctor's recommendations are are designed to help my pet not increase profitability. I feel very confident when I see Dr. Neuman and Dr. Pizzillo. They both are willing to answer my immediate questions and explain their recommendations to me. If I have follow up questions they will patiently explain again. They are both happy to explain why they recommended one option over another option I discovered on the Internet. And when I had to deal with the loss of a sick animal, both doctors were careful to consider my desires in how aggressive I wanted to be with a terminal disease. Reading through some of the other complaints on this site I feel obligated to say that many appear to be the result of a desire to rant. Sure Vinegar Hill is not going to suite everyone. It is an expensive neighborhood and the hospital has new and expensive equipment and the prices are not cheap (although they aren't the most expensive around here). So if price is your main consideration than this may not be the spot for you. However, choosing this hospital will mean that when your pet needs surgery or some other procedure his doctor won't be using equipment from a 1950's field hospital. And keep in mind that without medical insurance and co-pays you can't see a human doctor for less than a couple hundred dollars. Every hospital and every doctor has upset some of their patients. The only ones that haven't are ones that haven't been in business long enough..... Just give them some time. But people who are angry and want to anonymously rant about their horrible experiences when they only went there briefly are really not providing an good picture of the hospital. My animals have been patients at Vinegar Hill for over 3 years. They have gotten excellent care from the doctors and staff during that time. I have gotten excellent service from them as well (administratively not medically ;-) ). And I have recommended the hospital to many of my friends and acquaintances and they have had uniformly positive experiences. Read Less

I've lived in the DUMBO/Downtown Brooklyn area for 15 years, and haven't been happy with the choice of vets in the area. I have a multiple cat household and a dog. A couple of my cats are special needs and require additional care. So it has been no easy task to find a vet I can rely on. Until Dr. Neuman and Vinegar Hill came along, I was traveling all the way to Park Slope to see a vet there. My entire experience with Vinegar Hill has been very good. From the moment I walk in, it's clean, professional, the receptionists are responsive and polite. The vet techs are also a cut above the ones I've dealt with at other vet practices. To me, a good vet (and even a good people doctor!!) can diagnose a problem within a few minutes of examining an animal. It's a sixth sense, accompanied by years of experience. Dr. Neuman has that gift. She and two of her vet techs have even come to my home to help with fractious cats I have who don't do well at her office (semi-feral cats). One of my senior cats became very ill, and she and her staff helped coach me through the cat's palliative care and were so sensitive and empathetic at this sad time. When the cat did pass away, the staff and Dr. Neuman went out of their way to call, to send a card and went well beyond what you'd expect of a vet practice. I highly recommend Dr. Neuman and Vinegar Hill. Read Less

When I explained that they only gave me enough medicine for my cat until the night before, she said that they could not do the blood work necessary because she had not had her morning dose. I would need to leave my cat there for 4 hours so they could give her a dose then wait to take a blood sample. I had no desire to leave my cat there, and it would have been completely unnecessary if they had given me enough prescription medicine following the original visit. I also had no choice, and left my cat there. I picked up my cat later that day along with more of her medication. This is where my experience became even more troubling. When I went to give her her dose that night, I noticed the expiration date on the back of the packaging. ALL OF THE MEDICINE THEY SOLD ME WAS EXPIRED. I was terrified. I also was shocked because the new doses they gave me had expiration dates on the back of the packaging. The original doses they gave me of the same medicine did not have any expiration dates on them. Were the previous doses I had given my cat over the past 3 weeks also expired? Why did they have no expiration date on them when the new doses did? Were the expiration dates removed? I have no idea. I had given my cat 3 weeks of medication, and no idea whether it was expired or not. That is very troubling and upsetting. I called Vinegar Hill as soon as they opened in the morning and asked to speak to Dr. Neuman. It should be noted she is the head doctor and part owner. They informed me she was not in on Thursdays and Fridays. They gave me an email address to contact her. I sent her an email and she called me promptly. I explained all of the above to her. She immediately became very aggressive and confrontational with me. She raised her voice, she cut me off and would not let me speak. I was talking to her in a calm, collected manner just trying to explain all that happened and to figure out what to do. She said they did not remove expiration date labels from medicine, but offered no explanation why the first set of doses had no expiration dates on the package, and the second set of doses had expired expiration dates on the packaging. She said she would refund the money for the medicine and gave me a very insincere apology. She expressed no real concern for my cat's health, or for the situation that had happened. While she did agree to refund my money for the medicine, she still charged me fully for the appointment with her. This whole ordeal still cost me around $150. That they would charge $150 to give me this kind of treatment is beyond offensive. I have now scheduled an appointment for tomorrow with a different veterinarian at a different vet clinic. I will have to pay for another examination and blood work because I do not trust the accuracy of anything that Dr. Neuman has done. My cat is also currently without medicine until I can see the new vet. In the 12+ years of having my cat, I have never endured anything as outrageous as the treatment I received at Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group. If you care about your animal, please, please, please stay away from Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group and Dr. Neuman. Read Less

I have never been to a veterinarian so friendly to both me and my pet. From the representative at the front desk to the assistants, everyone went out of their way to ease my scaredy cat. The vet quickly diagnosed my kitty's torn ACL after an XRay and gave her the meds she needed. Her staff also brushed my fluffy cat and pet her. Anyone who complains about pet bills has clearly never been to any vet. If you're concerned about the bill and want to give your pet the medical attention they need, sign up for pet insurance. I guess I should have read some of these reviews before I went--other people have complained about the unnecessary ""fluid"" injecting expense. I did not like that my cat was removed from the room to get his injections and bloodwork. I was waiting around a lot, too--an hour, with about 20 minutes of facetime. Dr. Nueman is lovely, but she passed the cleaning of my cat onto her tech who was not very friendly. The receptionist, a male, was a total moron as well. For a general checkup, she gave unnecessary fluids, antibiotics (as a ""just in case"") and didnt even personally treat my cat! The unfriendly tech did! Plus, the vet didnt even know the different conversions of cc's and mLs! She had to keep asking the tech! That made me nervous! How could a vet not know about medications and measurements?! Total cost: $245! I literally could not believe it when I saw the bill - all of which was non-specific as to the services provided. Definitely go elsewhere. I've lived in DUMBO for 6 years and have heard some bad things about this new vet, mostly that they add up the charges very quickly without explaining anything. Several locals complained of sticker shock. Still, I gave Dr. Neuman a chance because they are so close to my home. BIG MISTAKE! I adopted a cat a few months ago, and unfortunately he came to me with a case of worms. When I saw the symptoms I took him to this vet. Sure enough, the visit took no more than 15 minutes, the vet disappeared with my cat into another room and came back with a bill for $200! The receipt came back with various charges such as ""fluids"". I feel most of the charges were erroneous. My cat received a clean bill of health just 2 months ago from his last vet. He was not a stray from the street, and certainly not dehydrated. He didn't need an injection of fluids. Still, I sucked it up and paid the $200, only to receive a phone call from the receptionist an hour later telling me she ""forgot"" to charge me $75 for sending the fecal sample to the lab. They already charged me to take the sample, to look at the sample, to give him several injections and now they won't finish their job without another $75? I'm sorry, but it doesn't even cost $275 for ME to visit the doctor. He's a cat, and worms are a common problem with a simple treatment. Wouldn't you know it, 2 weeks later, the worms are back! This vet's office is squeaky clean, but it's a rip off and I don't trust them to treat my animal well. Their main goal seems to be capitalizing on a gentrifying neighborhood. I guess if you have lots of money to throw around you should go there. I'm taking my $75 and finding a new vet.

Office was clean and staff kind. Dr Neumann took her time answering all of my questions and provided lots of information about my pet and solutions for my pet. I will be back. Read Less

I needed a last minute weekend vet appointment for my cat and my regular vet wasn't available, nor were any of the other vets I called. I was referred to Dr. Neuman at Vinegar Hill, and her staff was able to fit me in for a same day Saturday appointment. The staff was friendly, compassionate, kept appointments running on time, and I think even my very vet-averse cat would admit that it was the best veterinary experience we've had in the city! Dr. Neuman is incredibly patient and kind and was so sweet and thorough with my scared, shy cat. I would have paid just about any amount for the same day appointment and treatment, but it was also extremely reasonably priced! We will be making Dr. Neuman our regular vet going forward. Read Less

She lacks the knowledge and skills, has no idea about diagnosis and treatment, and killed my bird in her examining room. Do not schedule your appointments when she works there. Most horrifying experience with that so called doctor. She is a disgrace to the vet profession! Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

Read Less

Dr. Neuman comes highly recommended from several of my dog owner neighbors. So I called and made my new puppy an appointment as soon as we got her. She also spends part of her week at Brooklyn Heights Vet Group. Bella loved her almost instantly and she was just a wealth of knowledge. I think I must have asked a zillion questions. She was patient, talked us through how Bella's doing and gave us excellent advice. Big fan. Both locations are also super convenient for us. Read Less

I go to Vinegar Hill Veterinary Group with my sister whenever she needs to take her cat in. They are really nice doctors and a well run practice. It's calm when we visit. There is an office cat that just roams about. Not shy at all. This vet is a little pricey (It is in DUMBO after all...) but worth it given the care they provide your furry loved ones. My sister has never complained about them and that's good enough for me. Read Less

I had a wonderful experience here. I was able to make an appointment quickly for my sick cat, and when I arrived earlier than the appointment, they were able to accomodate us quickly. The vet and staff seemed to care as much about my cat as I do, even answering my barrage of questions (I am a worrier!). The pricing was affordable, and they offered different options in the treatment of my little buddy. Normally, after a visit to the vet, I am shunned for the next day or two from my cat, but he really didn't seem phased at all when we got home. I am sorry we are moving away, because I don't think my cat would mind coming back here for his checkups at all! Read Less

I took my puppy here to get spayed and she ended up being rushed to the hospital. When the doctor initially called me after performing the procedure she stated ""I cut the wrong vein."" After literally running to the office, I found my dog being driven to a veterinarian hospital by two young girls playing music extremely loud in the car, while my dog's eyes were rolling back in her head. My puppy then spent the next day in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital and now has in incision that covers her entire underside, which was closed with staples. As of today, i have not recieved an explanation as to what happened during the surgery and have found a new veterinarian that is much more professional. If you care for your pet i would keep them away from this place.Read Less

I recommend Vinegar Hill Vets to anyone looking for experienced and compassionate care for their animals. I have brought many cats (my own and fosters) to Dr. Neumann, as well as rescued wildlife. She always impresses me with her knowledge, dedication, and communication skills. I've learned so much about cats from her. I referred a friend who had been told her young dog required prohibitively expensive tests to Dr. Neumann who diagnosed the dog's lip lesion as benign and self-healing. Dr. Pizzillo, who joined the practice last year, is wonderful as well. I believe Vinegar Hill offers excellent care at very fair prices. I'm happy to travel from Manhattan for visits. Read Less

Read Less

On a follow up visit, I had Dr. Neuman examine my cat. Dr. Neuman was very brief and inattentive in dealing with me. Neuman. Read Less

Read Less
