I've only ever had to go to the vet for bad reasons - sick furbabies. There can be so much comfort in those difficult times if you have the right vet. Most recently, my beloved cat of 13 years was extremely ill and sadly had to be put down unexpectedly. I was so thankful that a few months ago he started treating at Summer Street Cat Clinic so I could take him in right away. They got him in the same day I called. I arrived early because I was worried and they took him right in. When he started deteriorating they rushed to care for him and made him comfortable. They took x-rays right away to confirm the bad news. For cats and their owners, there is no better clinic. Everyone here truly loves cats and it shows. They know how to interact with them and calm them as much as possible. In that difficult hour with both my cat and I upset, they treated us so kindly. They said all the things I needed to hear in that moment and assured me that my decision to let him go was the right one. They made him comfortable while he passed, petting him the whole time and allowing me to do the same.I will always be thankful to the staff and vet here for helping me and my furbaby at that difficult time. After recommendations and searching last minute for a boarder for our ailing 9yr old cat, we finally found availability at Summer St. And thank goodness. Pearl and I ended up moving closer to Buffalo and that's when I started to bring her to Summer Street Cat Clinic. They have helped Pearl so much. The most horrible clinic we've ever brought our kitty in. Our cat hasn't eaten and gone to the toilet for a few days. The vet said that will examine him in another room. We were hearing terrible screaming from that room. When she returned she said that our cat didn't allow her to measure the temperature or to palpate him properly. No solutions were made about the cat's problems with the stomach. Only at home we found out that the doctor cut the claws on two paws. What we hate about what happened is - first, they didn't ask our permission to cut our cat's claws and we are absolutely against this procedure; second, instead of doing something useful and appropriate such as measuring the body's temperature, for example, they were torturing our cat; third, they inflicted unnecessary stress on the sick animal. Theresa Ryndak you are a sadist not a veterinary! What's funny, she suggested to cut his claws in the future after she has already done this procedure! What a liar. Read Less

Don't take your cat here if they're really sick and you need real medical advice. These vets will make you pay $500 for blood tests and other tests you won't need and then they won't have any idea how to help your sick pet beside giving it some steroids. Save your energy and a headache and go straight to an animal hospital. My cats hematocrit level was basically non existent and I asked the vet if she needed a blood transfusion. To which the vet replied, "maybe but it's going to be very very expensive and we don't do that here." She reiterated that a transfusion would be extremely expensive about 3 more times and that I should just go home with the steroids. Almost as if she was implying I couldn't afford it because I refused to pay for any more useless tests because my kittens condition was clearly becoming a medical emergency. Then when they transferred their paperwork over to the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center where I ended up taking my cat and spent an additional $2k, the vet stated in her paperwork that she was the one who suggested I get my cat transfused (oh no you didn't).My kitten survived and is now on steroidal therapy. This clinic charged me 50% more for the steroids than what the Orchard Park Medical Center is charging me FYI. Don't go here. Read Less

I always feel well taken care of at Summer Street. They don't mind that my cat doesn't like to be co-operative at the vets office and will growl, hiss, scream, scratch, and bite. I was sure they'd demand to sedate him for their safety before even examining him. But they just came in with their gloves and towel and smiled at my cat while speaking in reassuring tones. The staff assured me cats get angry and that's ok. It doesn't mean they're bad and they understand that this is not their normal behavior. Hats very true because he is a perfect little sweetheart gentleman to me.
They are always willing to find an appointment for me when there is an issue with my cat Leonard that is urgent. All the staff are friendly
And put me at easy during a really stressful time with my Leonard had an injury. They gave me a treatment plan and estimate which ended up being dead on when they cashed me out. I really liked how they began assessing him and then gave him pain meds and while they waited for them to kick in he let Leonard back in the room with me so I could further relax and reassure him (and myself) that he'd be ok. They were willing to answer my numerous questions and worries and assured me I could call any time with any other questions.
All in all Summer Street Cat Clinic made a stressful emergency situation into something manageable, and something I could walk away from with confidence that he got great care and he will heal great. Thank you Summer Street! Read Less

I have had 2 experiences, with 2 different kitties, which were less than acceptable. The doctor was a bit condescending and made me feel inadequate despite the fact my pets get better health care than I do. I brought my 14 year old cat in for a foot growth and was pressured to provide a biopsy, an overnight hospital visit, overpriced antibiotics, and an estimate for an amputation costing well over $2500. (Antibiotics alone were $70.) I took kitty for a second opinion and my regular vet recommended that I make him comfortable and happy until it was his time, offering affordable antibiotics ($12) and pain relievers until he could not go on. They did not recommend an amputation due to his age and assured me it was fine to place him in "hospice" care. I felt I was taken advantage of in a tough situation, both times. Read Less

I was a little unsure about coming here because of some of the reviews. My life situation changed, so I don't drive much and I can walk here, so I took my cat. 3 times actually- once for a well visit (he needed a rabies vaccination) and 2 times for an issue. I've been pleased all 3 times. They never said anything about the cat food. I even switched him from science diet to iams. They checked him for fleas at his visits. They don't make you feel guilty about not getting a huge work-up on your pet. Just give you options, things to think about and a cost estimate. If you say "no", they don't make a big deal about it. I am happy to write a very positive review for the folks at Summer Street Cat Clinic. I think we have been bringing cats there since they opened, and they cared for six cats for us. First of all, it is not inconsiderable that they only treat cats. This allows them to really master the care of one species, and meant that our cats were not subjected to dogs and other species when they were sick. Secondly, they have a team approach to care that allows some vets to specialize in heart care, some in kidney care, etc. Our last feline friend, Fergus, was treated by three of the vet team and a half dozen vet techs, all of whom made him feel special. Finally, they are at two locations that are easy to reach - one for city folks and one for north town and Amherst folks. Need I add that I like them all? OK, why not. I like them all. Read Less

It's almost time for my cat's annual checkup, but I will not be bringing him back here. Last year's checkup was a horrible experience for both me and my cat. He was due for his rabies booster and it took the vet (I forget her name) three times to correctly inject it. The first time, it didn't make it all the way through his skin and my cat was clearly in pain. The second time, the same thing happened, but she attempted to inject it anyway, so all the vaccine/serum inside the syringe came out on the outside and got all over his fur and she didn't even wipe it off (I had to do it when I got home). Then she proceeded to tell me that the very healthy, premium food diet I feed my cat is going to somehow give him kidney stones and I should switch to Science Diet, which, by the way, is basically the crappiest food you can possibly feed your cat, short of Friskies or Whiskas. I would bet this office is being paid by Science Diet to tell people that (which is actually a thing that happens). I would not recommend coming here, although maybe I just got stuck with the bad vet of the bunch.Read Less

Do not go here. They are AT LEAST double the price of other vets and they will gouge you and play to your emotions to try to get you to keep treating pets that are beyond hope. Then after getting gouged on the treatment they will have no problem gouging you to euthanize the cat too. They charged us almost $1000 to treat a cat that was clearly on deaths doorstep. The next week they charged us $350 to euthanize. After the emotions settled from losing our cat I decided to actually shop around for some of the costs of the procedures they performed. "Unnecessary, unethical and overpriced" were 3 of the most popular adjectives that were mentioned during those phone calls.
Just for informational purposes, when searching for a new vet to declaw our new cat I called Summer St for a quote . Every other vet I called was in the $200 range. At Summer St $450!! I don't believe in a higher power, but if by chance I am wrong I will see these people in hell.Read Less

My cats definitely get better medical care than I do. I've been using Summer Street Cat Clinic (the location on Summer Street) for five years, now, and have seen all the veterinarians who work there. In that time, the support staff has stayed very consistent, and it's safe to say at this point that they remember me and know my two cats very well. Just this week, my female cat had dental surgery here, that actually cost below their estimate, and she had returned to almost her old self by the next morning.
One of my cats does need to be taken in the back for his shots and deworming pills, because he gets very worked up at the vet and will bite/scratch/run away. Though I was mildly alarmed the first time this happened (five years ago), the vet explained to me that this is because of the biting, scratching, etc.
Anyway, I would recommend (and do) Summer Street to people who ask me. They have been INCREDIBLY helpful over the years, and have taken excellent care of my cats. Read Less

Result was cardiomyopathy which it seems was undetected or ignored before and during the procedure. If you have a cat and want top notch care, go see Dr. Levine. Read Less

Read Less

When my cat James had an ear infection the staff at Summer Street Cat Clinic was a god send! New to Buffalo, we didn't have a vet and I didn't know who to call. As soon as we got there I felt so relieved, the staff was so nice and so accommodating, especially with my angry (and in pain) little kitty. They even lent me a carrier as this frazzled cat-mom couldn't find his travel box. They also helped get his shots up to date without pressuring me to get a million vaccines ...they just prioritized what my indoor cat needed and explained everything in a nice, clear manner. Nice facility, caring staff, and had my baby feeling better in no time!

They are always very kind and caring to my cat, even when he Is a little grumpy. everyone is very kind and pleasant. I'm glad I started coming here to get the Miyagi-San looked at.

Superb service and care for my little Luna! I recently rescued my cat from living in a dilapidated trailer in the woods. Summer Street was super quick about getting her in once I brought her home (like the next day). Once we got to our first appointment, I was greeted by the nice lady at the desk and very promptly called into the room.Another perk - no long waits and never a crowded waiting room! Most I've seen was one other cat besides mine. They offer great, knowledgeable advice and are always open about the costs associated with anything and everything.I also got Luna spayed here and they were great about making me feel better. They also were able to schedule it right away! It was a little pricey but I believe I got what I paid for. She was in heat and I was very nervous for her but they treated her with respect and care and made me feel much more comfortable.Very friendly and they love my little kitty almost as much as I do!

Read Less

Took my cat for a routine visit, healthy but wanted to do expensive blood work.I declined and they wanted to put him in a study.Would cover blood work but I had to pay for anesthesia and teeth cleaning. No evidence of any medical problems Agreed because I thought I was doing the right thing for my cat. Two weeks later my granddaughter found my beautiful persian cat dead. Called Summer Street Cat Clinic and told because it was Sunday there would be a charge for bringing him in. Told to keep him cold and take him Monday. Took him in and asked for an autopsy. Result was cardiomyopathy which it seems was undetected or ignored before and during the procedure. They now have a paw print there and when I asked if it could be mailed because a visit would be painful was told there would be a charge. Have already paid out hundreds of dollars and my cat is dead but will be charged for postage for the paw print. Greed, lies and insensitivity seem common in this practice.
