Where do I begin on how to review Dr. Gordon?Her expertise, her passion and overall desire to help my dogs was tremendous.It is easy to see that Dr. Gordon is a vet who puts animal needs first and she quickly develops a positive rapport with them.  I knew my dogs were in good hands because she was able to take the time needed to explain in concrete detail what she diagnosed, answer my many questions, provide me with further information, create next steps and a solid treatment plan that has worked.   Another valuable and impressive quality I noticed about Dr. Gordon was her willingness to consult with the other specialists when needed in order to create the best possible treatment for my dogs.  Additionally I experienced other vets consulting with Dr. Gordon for her diagnosis.  Dr. Heidi Gordon's advice and knowledge is not only impressive but extremely invaluable.  You know you've found a wonderful vet when your dogs are excited to visit! Burnt Hills is a good 30-minute drive for us, many vets are closer by, however, we absolutely love Dr. Chris Elson and Dr. Keith Clement. Both take their time and are very thorough in the exam and explanation of options, etc. We only vaccinate what we have to and even then we break it up over the course of several weeks. They have never had a problem with that and respect our wishes. Finally, we had to let our gorgeous Saint Bernard, Gulliver, go last year due to bone cancer. I did not want the inside of the hospital to be his final experience so they set up a blanket outside, we had a beautiful view of the farm next door. Gulliver slipped away as the sun began to set. I will never be able to thank Dr. Clement enough for such a touching gesture in a truly torturous time. As long as we live here BHVH will be our vet of choice. Read Less

I had tons of issues with this place after being a loyal client for years, including Dr Elson doing a $1500 surgery on my 13 yr old cat without my knowledge or consent, then "discounting" the bill $100. Add insult to injury, thanks. The next time was making a euthanasia appointment for my beloved dog and then having to wait over 2 hours for him to be seen by the dr. Last straw was yesterday, when they refused to see my moms dog when she blew her ACL even though the hospital was still open. Receptionist on the phone kept on calling her an "IT" and told me to call back in  the morning as this injury isn't considered an emergency (even though the dog was clearly in pain). Guess they were worried they might have to work past 5pm on a Saturday. would give zero stars if i could. Read Less

The best of care for the best of friends. Exceptional doctors, receptionists, boarding caregivers and veterinary technitions. My dog gets over excited when we're two blocks away from arriving at the hospital. I drive over 40 minutes to come to this vet because of how AMAZING the care is. Nobody pressures you into any procedures and they do a wonderful job explaining everything step by step. Every time Ive gone here they have not let me down or forced me to pay for anything they didn't stand by. Today I went to a different vet closer to home because I got a new kitten who had tapeworm and was strapped for time so I didn't want to make the drive but I regretted my decision when I saw that the care didn't even compare to Burnt Hills. I love this hospital! After taking our dog to another vet when he was younger and after receiving poor service we needed to find a trustworthy hospital for our little guy. We were recommended to try Burnt Hills and see Dr. Elson. He is amazing! He gets right down on the ground and really takes his time with our dog. Our pet has a serious condition & we wanted to use one of the vets that was well established in the hospital. Even after requesting a more experienced vet, Dr. M. Duemler was assigned. Then, Dr. H. Gordon started our pet's treatment of some strong medication, however, the case went right back to Dr. Duemler without her even following up with us. Dr. Duemler spent little to no time explaining things. Initially, he just encouraged surgery and we said "no way since our pet was elderly." Too much medication caused our pet to go into a relatively toxic state and lose some key bodily functions. We are very disappointed. We love our pet so much and now see suffering that never should have happened. We do not plan to see either one of these vets at this hospital again. There are other wonderful vets there that will give you the time and attention that your pet deserves, however, we still must give the rating of only one star at this time. Read Less

I'm very pleased with BHV.  My dogs each have their own vet and I can't say enough good about Dr. Clement and Dr. Elson.  They are caring and gentle and very thorough.  The staff is very nice.  When I have a question for one of the vets, the staff communicates it and by the end of the day has an answer for me.  If the problem is more urgent or serious, both Dr. Elson or Dr. Clement will call me personally with an answer. I have never had a negative experience here, my family has been taking our dogs to Burnt Hills Vet(specifically Dr. Rach) since it opened 30+ years ago. Dr. Rach is the kindest, most compassionate veterinarian and also extremely knowledgeable. My family and I love him and trust him 100%. Today we saw Dr. Elson, and he was fantastic as well. My chihuahua is very fearful especially at the vet and Dr. Elson was amazing with him to the point that my Chi actually crawled in his lap voluntarily. We can't say enough good things about BHV. I absolutely love it here as well as my dog. We had problems at our previous vet and I really can't afford mistakes with our current dog. They explain all options and things to try before saying this is what needs to be done. My dog is so excited to go and see everyone and they always make sure he is comfortable before they do anything plus they let him be his excited self while giving kisses and wanting to be in their lap. I have been using BHVH for over 20 years. I have always received quality care for my pets (Cats and Dogs) and have always been treated with respect and compassion.  A few of the medical conditions they have treated my pets for are: A toy poodle with a broken neck, who thanks to Mike Rach, DMV's dedication and creative approach to his treatment survived, a German Shepherd who had an aggressive form of cancer was treated by Pete Farrell, DMV and thanks to his genius and compassion (both for me and my beautiful girl), I was given an additional year with her.  Dr Heidi Gordon saved my very very young rescue kittens who came to me with a very serious case of ringworm.  Not only did they recover, I am happy to say they are both thriving.  Currently, Dr Chris Elson is treating my newly adopted 2 year old cocker spaniel for stump pyrometra. She was spayed 4 days before I adopted her. On the way home from picking her up, I knew she was sick (extremely weak, would not eat, felt very hot and drank very little). Finding the source of infection was crucial to saving her life. Dr Elson was tenacious and following a cat scan and blood work located the culprit. She is currently on antibiotic treatment. Her appetite has improved and her ferver is normal. She has a long way to go, but I am confident that she is receiving the very best care. Additionally, the staff always finds a way to see your pet in an emergency. Based on my experiences with BHVH, I have the highest regard for the staff and medical professionals. Our animals receive the best of care at the Burnt Hills Veterinary Hospital. Two of our cats have had life threatening issues in the past couple years and have been able to come home happy and healthy. More recently, they have been helping one of our cats with multiple serious conditions and I am amazed at the care, compassion, and knowledge exhibited there. I switched from a different Vet and couldn't be happier. My dogs are in great hands now. Even though we have had to go through some things to get my dogs health on track after the last vet dismissed some of my concerns for my dog's health it has been a great experience. There is no doubt in my mind that everyone here truly cares about my animals. I drive all the way from Latham and would never think of getting a vet closer to me. Both of my dogs see Dr. MacNaughton. He is an amazing vet and both of my dogs love and trust him very much! Besides the amazing care, the prices are so much more reasonable than I have experienced at other places. In the past year my two dogs have had 3 surgeries; 1 neutering, 1 knee surgery, and an emergency stomach surgery. We've been with this practice for 20 + years and watched it grow to this state-of-the art, first-class facility it is today. We have dealt primarily with Dr. clement who has always been expert and empathetic though the many trials and tribulations of our pets. Just this past week we went though finding out that our beloved Miss Tiffany (11 year old cat) had serious heart and organ problems. We were going to try a treat meant plans but before we got started she failed terribly in the middle of the night on Friday and we had to call the emergency number. Dr. Darren McNaughton responded, met us at the hospital very quickly and we all knew we had to let her go to a better place. We've been though this several times but it is never easy. For many of us losing our pets is losing a family member and making the decisions can be heart wrenching. Dr. Mc could not have been more human and humane with our Tiffany and us . He is a stinging example of what we have come to know and love at this facility. We cannot commend them enough for their expertise, knowledge and humanity. they share of love of the creatures who are put in our care and share our loves. Completely rude and disrespectful. They have no coordination or respect for their customers time. I scheduled a 5pm appointment. When I walked in there were no customers in the lobby, and 8 people behind the counter eating cake. I checked in 10min early knowing I'd have to wait until my appointment. I waited an additional 30minutes without any acknowledgement from the 8 people standing at the counter carrying on a conversation. This was no just one bad experience. We have been using them because they are close, but they are no longer worth the close proximity. Our dog died after being seen there 4 times and they didn't do anything. Read Less

Staff is always pleasant and friendly.  They've taken good care of both of our dogs.  Including when my older dog needed surgery to correct Cushings.  She's a little difficult with strangers and has big-time separation anxiety.  But they took great care of her and the surgery was 100% successful despite the not-so-great odds. I use Burnt Hills Vet for both boarding and care for my dog and cats.   I must say I am very pleased with both services.   My dog and cats get great care from the Vets. When I board my dog he normally hates being away from home but when I pick him up from there his tail is wagging.  That indicates to me he had a good time. They also gave him a complementary bath and he loved it.  Also on another note I have had to deal with losing a pet and let me say they are very compassionate and caring.  They really understand the loss of a pet.  Standing in the reception area crying my eyes out (embarrassing moment #253 in my life) they really were very caring. Dr Chico is the most knowledgable veterinarian I have ever encountered! I had been bringing my small dog to a local Veterinarian for almost nine yars for eye problems. Multiple eye stains, and numerous medications. None of which worked. My dogs eyes were getting progressively worse. At the suggestion of my sister, I tried Dr Chico. My dog's eyes were cleared after the first visit. Cyclosporin, once a day. Now, I know the damage done, will never be reversed, but I only wonder where we would be, if we had come to Dr Chico sooner. The doctors and staff at Burnt Hills Vet are all great and very helpful. After finding out that my dogs lungs were full of tumors and being told by another local vet that there was nothing that could be done and i had to put him down, i went to Burnt Hills vet for a second opinion. They told me there were multiple options that we could try to get some more quality time with my best friend. No matter what time of day or night, they were there to help me along the way. They were willing to do whatever it took the help me including trying new techniques. They will bend over backwards to help their clients and look at each and every pet that comes in the door as one of their own. I cant say enough about them. Without the help of Dr Duemler and all of the Burnt Hills Vet staff, I wouldnt have gotten another quality 3 weeks with my dog who is like a child to me.
