The New Castle Veterinary Hospital sets up an intricate patient-centered care system for the Chappaqua families while enabling pet owners across New York to enjoy detailed medical process transparency. The initial visits ensure that a pet becomes comfortable with the sounds, lighting, and room configuration. From the moment they step into the testing arena, veterinarians closely watch their gait and social behavior while documenting areas of hesitance, breathing patterns, and tactile responses. Physical assessments include evaluating the coat and skin health, hydration levels, gum color, limb usage, joint sensitivity, abdominal tone, and muscle stability. The intake picture is completed by owner feedback regarding changes in appetite, grooming, interaction levels, and vocalization to guide the next steps. New Castle Veterinary Hospital offers a wide range of structured services, including lab panels, dental procedures, surgical prep and recovery, age-adjusted diagnostics, and preventative wellness mapping. Detailed explanations are provided for each service level, and tools are available to track progress for services requiring multiple visits. The team helps pet owners understand the body signals that pets exhibit after recovery to differentiate between readiness and resistance, thus improving intuitive home care. Behavioral criteria to ensure a successful transition determine the timing of subsequent visits, not specific dates. In each occurrence, it is imperative to notice the changes that happen in sleep cycles, eye contact, surface preference and mobility gradient because of the context they provide during the check-in. This ensures that key decisions are made with confidence and stability. Pet owners in Chappaqua and throughout New York value New Castle Veterinary Hospital as a clinical partner that prioritizes knowledge, patience, and transparency – ensuring pet care is always a joint effort.

Great vet with terrific support staff. Dr. Kaufman has been treating our 14-year-old dog Shadow since she was a puppy. He has provided excellent advice and care on many issues big and small. I grew up with lots of animals, and have know a lot of vets over the years, and Dr. Kaufman is one of the best. I once called him at 2 am with an emergency and he calmly talked me through how to solve the problem. He is a great listener and explainer. His office is extremely well run. Appointments are on time and insurance forms filled out quickly. His staff could not be nicer or more competent. He donates care to wildlife and has a rescue dog. Dr. Kaufman has always been there for Shadow. Read Less

I think of Dr. Kaufman as I do our now gown kids' pediatrician: a great find when we first moved Westchester that really made a huge difference in our family's life. I have had two dogs under Dr. Kaufman's care for 16 years, ever since our family moved to Chappaqua. One dog was a rescue and a mess until Dr. Kaufman oversaw his leg surgery and got his health issues under control so the dog could move in with Grandma on Long Island. Our 14-year-old Tibetan Terrier this year was diagnosed with lymphoma and should have died months ago but is still going for half-hour walks.  We know things will turn and Dr. Kaufman first checked her weekly, and now every other week since she is doing well, for free so we can make sure she Is monitored and won't suffer at the end. I once called him at 2 am with a choking emergency and he got the situation under control with over-the-phone instructions. He donates care to wildlife. He is open minded if you want to add in something different to pet care, like Eastern medicine. His staff is amazing-- kind, friendly, super helpful. When your dog's stomach goes crazy, or any health issue arises out of nowhere, your pet gets right in.  He and his staff are organized so your appointments are on time. Insurance forms are processed promptly. Dr. Kaufman remembers everything about our old dog's health, things I have even forgotten. I have had animals all my life and dealt with many vets over the years, and Dr. Kaufman is the best. Read Less

Dr. Kaufman and staff~ Stephanie, Lydia, Brittany, Julie LaShawna are all AMAZING,... provide thoughtful & Intelligent care, and truly love the animals. Dr.Kaufman himself just adopted a rescue, Gordon, and it melted my heart, that a person that takes care of pets everyday, goes a step further and provides a loving home for a rescue~ which takes patience, time and kindness. Stephanie also has rescues. They are all amazing (and I am picky) and I feel like family when I walk in the door. PS~ It is always a true sign and speaks volumes when you see your dogs reaction and response to the staff. She loves them! Read Less

The worst experience anybody can go through with their Dog while on vacation. Left my dogWith New Castle Veterinary hospital, they told me we can board your dog here and all theyDid to take care of him was to kill him, drop him off walking and never came back out.Over the weekend nobody took time to spend with him, best Lab you can have, thinking positiveBecause he was his Vet he would be in a better place, not true once they left the office at 5:00Nobody would walk him or comfort him or even take care of him left on vacation on ThursdayNobody to talk too over the weekend so I waited and called Monday and that's when the doctor told me my dog was in distress, why did they wait so many days without calling meAgain we spoke Tuesday and he told me my Piper has Bloating and needed surgery and afterDiscussing with him staff he felt my Piper should be put down and ask him how this happenHe said Piper was barking a lot and he was biting his lip, would you think he would called and said someone needs to get him to relief the stress, but know the money was to good so let's Tranquilize him and he can shout up.I called my brother to go and see him my poor dog wasAbuse and the video my brother took of Piper just destroyed me and my family on how he look,my family and I decided to shorten our vacation and come home and drive straight toThe Vet(boarding) and when we got there Piper was tranquilize where he was knock out coldAnd only breathing we ask why is he so tranquilize, his respond to make him comfortableHe would not let me take him home he said it was inhumane and he put Piper down and before that he was upset that we did not get there earlier, all he did was look at his watchAs if he needed to be some where else and also hiis office would close at 12:00.every moment I think of the situation it makes me sad and depress and I which my choice wouldOf been the kennel he would stay, but instead I decided to leave him with these inhumanePeople,my suggestion to any person that's think Vet are the right place for boarding not true.To respond to Dr Kaufman posting,I will start with saying my dog was 13 years old and not14. My dog Piper was fine before taking him to new castle veterinarian with Dr. Martin Kaufman. Piper never had any barking lip biting issues, if so as reported by Dr Kaufman,Why didn't he call me earlier at any time or day to let me know about pipers behavior/distress? It wasn't until my phone call to check in on Piper, which I was told by Receptionist he was fine, than put on hold because I wanted to talk to the doctor that I Come to find out that Piper is gravely ill and requires the medical treatment that we agreedUpon, decompression , of his stomach, as surgery was to risky for Piper because of his situation and age. Dr. Kaufman, having Piper in your care why didn't you give a phone to callTo let us know that Piper was in distress? We would of came home even earlier than we did. NoOne was their to watch him or care for him for 2 days!! ( Weekend) that's why on Monday He was so gravely ill! And from that day on never got better! Poor judgement!!!! Read Less
