I've been taking my precious furbabies to Boght Vet for decades, thinking I was doing the best for their health. My 7 year old Saint has had skin, ear and paw issues for years... she'd lick her paws, scratch her ears and cut her gums, poor thing...or at least that's what I thought she was scratching. I'd mention this each time we visited and we visited frequently in the last year. Finally I got a referral to a dermatologist...the first thing they told me... my dog has cracked teeth and was most likely scratching her gums because she was in pain. Boght never saw this? What kind of exam were they doing... ok...so I go back to Boght and we have 3 extractions... 2 lower molars and 1 upper canine. A week after her surgery, I end up in the hospital for emergency surgery...she never gets to her post op appt. And she's bleeding from the fistula that was created removing the canine tooth. After a little over a week I'm released, I call for a post op check telling them, she's been bleeding for over a week...they see her that same day...and prescribe antibiotics...saying we'll have to wait and see if she heals, if she doesn't we cant do anything but refer you...2 days later still bleeding... I call to see if they can give me a referral so I can get her looked at by a dental vet. They say bring her in, I do, well the Dr who performed the surgery isn't here. She's not actively bleeding at this time. We'll do some blood work. I lost it, sitting in my car and started yelling at the Dr and tech... They finally gave me some clotting medication and a referral to Upstate Veterinary Specialties. Well..come to find out, they don't do dental either. I've since found a Veterinary practice in the area that does do dental...and oh my goodness, what an experience my first visit was. Quite different from the treatment we've been receiving at Boght, even putting a calming bandana on her because she seemed a bit nervous. Totally professional, actually discussing her problems and doing the exam and treatment right there in front of me, not taking her into the back. I will be taking both my Saints to the new practice, I'm so thankful I found them. I would like to apologize to the Dr and techs I yelled at during my final visit to Boght, that just isn't the way I do things. But I was at my wits end. So. My apologies. I will never take any of my precious pets to Boght again. Read Less

I've been bringing my pets here for over 25 years. The current dogs I have going to this clinic are 10 years old and have been seen since birth. I've seen a very sharp decline in care for the animals. Due to an episode of anaphylactic shock from a rabies shot and other sensitivities, I do not go regularly, for appointments considered "physicals". Instead, I bring them in as needed and for nail clippings; since they cannot go to a groomer without a rabies vaccine of which they are medically exempt -FYI, all the dogs are related and have different degrees of allergic reactions. Therefore, I groom the dogs myself, with the exception of clipping their nails because it is too difficult and I'm uncomfortable with it. They are refusing to clip one of my dog's nails because he hasn't had a "physical" in over a year. I would happily get him a physical if it they were not so booked out! Their next available appointment is a month out. The last time I checked, which was atleast a few years ago, I have spent over $7,000.00 on my dogs in the last 10 years at this vet. We have been loyal to this clinical practice, and at one time, even recommend them. They show no loyalty to their patients in return. Clearly, they have over extended their ability to give quality care to their patients. Everytime my dogs get sick, they are unable to be seen immediately. Rather, they offer appointments days and weeks out that are considered "emergency appointments" because they are not scheduled out further (ex: months). I find this unacceptable. It is unfair to the patients they have to have to wait because they took on too many animals without the capacity to treat them in a timely manner. Furthermore, they charge an emergency fee, despite the animals having to wait up to two weeks! I've managed to unhappily deal with this decline in care, but what really tops it off is the recording I have to listen to when put on hold. It is so ridiculous. They go through a laundry list of excuses about how busy they are and how poorly they are treated by upset people who complain about their services. It is infuriating and insulting to have to listen to how they are being victimized as they acknowledge the long waits and overall decline in quality care. Unbelievable. Who approved that message? It is pathetic. I'm so disgusted. I highly recommend going somewhere else for vetrinary care. Go on a wait list if you have to, its worth it. I'd rather go on a wait list then go to a clinic that took on too many pets! That is not helpful or doing any good. Read Less

Used this Vet for years. We have noticed a sharp decline in the level of care and compassion and have now moved on to a new vet. We recently needed pain meds for our 14 year old dog. Took the dog to the facility so they could issue meds, they would not take 5 minutes to look at him and instead suggested an appointment over a month out. I explained that he had 1 or 2 days meds and this would not work. They could have cared less. I took him to the Upstate Vet Emergency facility where they examined him, did blood work, and issued 10 pills to hold him over. When we contacted Bought they would not accept the blood work from Upstate and again suggested a month out appointment. We would again run out of meds if we accepted this appointment so we found a new vet who could not have been more helpful. STAY AWAY, arrogant, no compassion, no empathy, poor customer service/realations. Too big and self important. They will fall like a stone with this attitude. Sad to see a business change so dramatically in such a short period of time. Seems like young kids running the place screening contacts for the docs. Bad formula - turned into a "factory" witn no compassion whatsoever Read Less

Over Booked, Short Staffed & Unwilling to discuss what turned out to be a difficult & unfortunate situation! I had a very embarrassing "meltdown" on the 20th of August (long story). It started with Boght being unable or unwilling to see my pet for a continuing pain issue that was causing her difficulty walking. The day ended with a receptionist touching a "nerve" (while I was getting meds), after what was a really tough day with the same dog who is very sick & was still in a lot of pain later that day. I said a few things that in retrospect seem to have been taken out of context and upset the staff. I also think they really disliked that what I said was at a time when their waiting room was jammed packed, so of course everyone heard everything.  (I did not swear at all or scream, but I was loud and on the verge of tears). During my meltdown I "lumped" them in with a bad experience that I had earlier that day with an emergency vet. I also voiced my dismay that neither the Boght Office(over booked & under staffed) nor the Oakwood Office for the same reason couldn't do x-rays. Boght could only do Monday, but was booked full & Oakwood couldn't do any until Thursday! Sadly, it would have been a non-issue for me if the vet had done a quick x-ray of my dog's shoulder& leg the previous week when she was there for blood work! It was the second time I had asked and the 2nd time I was told that it wasn't necessary! The problem I have with this is I was paying for it (rather she needed it or not) and because the dog was on pain meds and not doing better, I wanted to rule out any sort of injury or find out if there was inflammation in the shoulder or leg. (The dog was going for an neuro evaluation on Thursday Aug 23rd, so the xray could have been used to rule out several things a neurologist might look for!)  Anyway, by Aug 20th the dog was no better & in a lot of pain and never got the care I felt she needed so that I as her owner knew that I was doing everything I could to take care of her! So YES I had a "meltdown"! It happened @ a bad time, in a room full of clients. I left upset plain & simple! I guess soon after Dr. Ford spoke to the owner Dr. Wagoner (whom I have known since he took over the clinic) and they decided to BAN me and my pets from their offices. They also closed all records and services effectively immediately. That meant the the very same dog who I had the issue with was unable to get refills on her meds. She takes 8 different ones because she has 2 frontal lobe brain lesions and Encephalitis. Rather than call and tell my husband or I about their decision, after 25+ years of going there, I was informed (only after I called for medication & apt) that myself and my pets were no longer welcomed there. I was sent a packet of records and a letter stating the same thing 5 days later. Take about shocking!!! I tried to speak to the office managers about what happened, and although they listened and said they would talk to the owner, we never got a call back! My husband also tried to call and only got a call from Oakwood stating the Dr. Wagoner was too busy to call and that he would talk to Dr. Ford and someone would call in 2-3 days. NO ONE CALLED! It seems when you are making money hand over fist and booking 2 months out in advance, Banning one customer with 5 pets whom you have been doing business with for 25+ years is no sweat off your back! Even though they view me as being completely in the wrong, I feel a phone call was warranted or a chance to discuss what happened with the owner or Dr. Ford (who pretty much runs the Boght office now). I also feel that reaching out to the Emergency Vet that pretty much led to my "meltdown" would have been a nice thing to do. Because the Emergency Vet admitted their fault/part in a set of rather unfortunate incidents that happened that day. The Patient Care Coordinator was also willing to reach out to Dr. Ford or Dr. Wagoner on my behalf an explain what happened and that it probably would not have taken much to "touch" a "nerve" that day. Bascially, because they felt bad and after explaining my Ban from Boght & Oakwood they wanted to help me straighten things out. Anyway, all attempts to resolve the situation were ignored and Dr. Wagoner ( we trusted him with the care of 10 of our animals over the years and referred A LOT of patients his way) & Dr. Ford (who saw us through the loss of one beloved pet last year and established patient care with 5 of our pets with-in the past year) moved on! I always loved the staff @ both offices , never hesitated to refer people there and even through a few rough patches I never lost my trust or respect for them or the work that they do! The sad part is they never respected me or my pets enough to give myself or them a second chance! Bottom line: DO NOT TAKE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THESE OFFICES/VETS FOR GRANTED! IF GOD FORBID YOU HAVE A BAD DAY OR GET UPSET WITH THEM YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF UNEXPECTEDLY BLACK BALLED AND BANNED TO! Read Less

I brought my puppy here because I had hear good things about them but I did not have a good experience. The exam was very brief and only consisted of listening to her heart and lungs. No education was done the vet only asked if I had any questions and quickly breezed by them or said she did not know. I had brought a stool sample to be tested and did not hear of the results for a few days. When I called them they said she was positive for worms and I would need to come in for medication. When I went to pick up the medication I inquired as to why I was not called about the results. The tech stated "we don't call with results here." I asked what would happen if an animal needed treatment and they owner did not call and she rudely responded "well that's the owners problem." Lastly, when I was given the medication I asked what the directions were to give it and she stated "just read the bottle." I work in the health care field and this would never be acceptable for people. I will not be returning. Read Less

I originally chose Boght for my new puppy based on recommendations of family and friends. The puppy wasn't good in the car, so after several visits, I switched to a practice that was both closer to my home and had extended hours. After two visits there, I realized that other practice did not have the best interest of the pet at heart. (the use of antibiotics as a precaution, for one. I don't want my pets medicated unless they need it! ) Needless to say, I switched back and won't make that mistake again. Worst experience ever. I was in on Monday to put my dog down. it was a difficult decision to make. He was a rescue dog that we had for approximately 2 years. I came to Boght because that's where the previous owner had taken him and they would have his records. I was told he was diabetic. We talked about it as a family. I talked to the previous owner. I talked to a family member who is a vet tech. We took into consideration the dogs temperment and the issues he had when coming to us. I don't really want to get into all the issues but there were many. We didn't think he would tolerate the treatment well. As a family we decided the best course of action for this dog was to put him down. For starters I was quoted one price and when I got there it was a different price. But that isn't my issue. The vet came in and gave me my options and letting me know how treatable it was. Even after explaining why we came to the decision we did he kept pushing me to treat. Pushing me to the point i actually asked why he was making it harder than it already was. Pushing me to the point I wanted to just walk out. I don't understand what his motive was but he made me feel horrible. They left me in the room for what felt like an extended period of time and when he came back he tried again to talk me out of it. I actually thought he was going to refuse to do it. When it was actually over he scooped up my dog and walked out with him leaving me standing there. Now I have had to put pets down before and have never experienced what I experienced here. I know that for this dog we made the best decision for him. We gave him 2 years that he wouldn't have had and I know he was happy with us. I don't know why he had to make a hard situation even harder but I will never go back there agianRead Less

The same dog this past year we discovered he has a heart condition, she did the work up but decided he needed a cardiologist she called dr Wey and got me an appt the next day (which is unheard of, dr Wey is a busy man) and in the last year I have had to call her for her opinion on some things, she has given me her professional and personal opinion more than once and has been very consoling to an upset dog mom(me). She has also called me after hours as well which is much appreciated and shows me she really cares not only about my dog but for me and my feelings as this year has been really tough with lots of decisions on what to do about my dog. When I bring my other animals there she is great with them all. She really goes above and beyond for her patients and I truly believe my dog wouldn't be alive if it weren't for her!!! I would never bring my animals anywhere else. I highly recommend her to anyone!!Read Less

It seems that the other reviews are about staff friendliness, but that was not an issue for me. My issue is one of staff competence, which is the most important thing when you are seeking medical care for your pet. After seeing another veterinarian in the Capital Region, I realize in hindsight that the knowledge of the staff and the doctors at Boght was lacking. In the year that I took my cats here, I experienced two major failures in proper care: #1: When they cleaned my cat's teeth, she was groggy for two days afterward, and so I asked if they administer anesthesia according to specific weight. I was shocked when they said "no, we just go by eye depending on whether the animal is small or big." Problem is, I a very long-haired cat who looks a lot bigger than she is and she was overdosed. #2: I pointed out that my cat's ear was black inside and that she was shaking her head and they gave me an antibiotic. I administered the drops as directed and the infection did not go away, so I asked if there were other drops available that I could try. The doctor at Boght said no. When I went to the new vet, I brought the old drops and asked the same question. The doctor said that there are 3 different types of antibiotic drops for ears on the market, then she took a swab and tested my cat's ear, determined she had two types of bacterial infections, and prescribed the drop that was best for the infections. Not only did the Boght vet give me incorrect information; she didn't venture to find out what type of infection my cat had and why the drops were not working. Read Less

I have been going to Bought Veterinary for a long time now with my pets. I had a cat of 16 years that had to be put down because of a tumor in his mouth. He went down so peacefully. (That was two years ago) The other day we had to make another hard decision to put down our dog that was very sick ( wouldnt eat, lost weight and had addison disease ext. I brought her into the office crying my eyes out with my husband by my side. Dr. Anderson informed us that she should stay on the floor (yellow lab) that he id going to give her the shot, it is going to make her sleepy. Anyways I pushed my her next to me and she began to walk away . They she started staggering and crying and yipping and dragging her legs aroung the room trying to get up but couldnt. ( my husband and I are hysterical at this moment no veterinarian to be found. I started screaming doctor could u please come in. In the meantime my dog is squealing on the floor with her tougue hanging out of her mouth making noises. ( I never experienced something so terrible in my life. I knew putting my dog down wad going to be hard but to watch her like that was awful. I just hope in the future the Bought Vets when they put down another animal they check and make sure everything is ok. Dont just leave. Im just devestated about my ordeal I went through. Read Less

This review is in regards our experience "BOARDING" our dog at Boght Clinic Rt 9.Point #1. This facility does not provide outdoor accommodations for walking dogs during the time they are boarded overnight or for long periods of time. This means if you board your dog at Boght, and your dog is house broken he will be forced to urinate, etc, inside the boarding area which is 'indoors' where dogs are boarded. Boght's online website has a photograph of the indoor 'run' area dogs use for their potty business once released from their cages. Exercise as well as fresh outdoor air is essential to any dogs good health, especially if the dog is boarding for a lengthly period of time. If a pet is depressed and missing their human family members while being confined for days to a cage, I feel it's cruel that the clinic will allow dogs to be quarantined for days without sunlight. Our dog is trained to go outside to potty and he loves lying in the morning sunlight.Point #2. This facility does not require that your pet get vaccinated against Bordetella pertussis. If YOU don't advocate to vaccinate your dog before boarding it at Boght, then it is NOT likely the clinic will recommend it for you. Therefore, you may end up boarding your healthy pet with dogs infected with 'kennel cough' or other respiratory illnesses. We were lax by not asking all the right questions before boarding our pet at this facility. After three days and nights of boarding, we cut our vacation short to come home to rescue our pet from another long day of confinement to a cage! After a three days home, our pet ended up at a local Animal Hospital to be treated for a noisy, yucky respiratory illness which lent him lethargic with chronic weezing and gaging . He also exhibited signs of a urinary tract infection. The wonderful and caring Doctor at the hospital administered fluids through IV for dehydration, weakness and lethargy, as well as an injection of a strong antibiotic for infection. Our dog would not eat nor drink water two days prior to taking him in for emergency treatment. After a few more days of lying around motionless, our sweet boy began to show signs of healing. He recovered nicely and is doing great. We have been advised to never use Boght for boarding again. After the owner of Boght explained they do not recommend Bordetella vaccinations, nor feel its important to have outdoor accommodations, he ended his conversation by calling me a 'nut' for complaining about their boarding facility. I quickly decided it was time to write a review to share our story. We will miss Dr. Ford, as she was a wonderful and loving doctor. Nixie, one of the assistants, was also wonderful with our baby. Thank you both for the care you provided while we were customers. Read Less

I went to Boght Veterinary Clinic for the first time today. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly. They were pretty busy at 4:15 pm on a Thursday. I went in for a dental consultation after having a bad experience at another animal hospital. The vet I dealt with at BVC was very kind and honest. She explained that my dog didn't need a cleaning for at least another year.I'm going to wait for now and I plan on making this place my primary vet. They don't charge an office visit fee if all you need is a vaccination. Their office visit fee is $38. Their dental cleaning is $200, $250 if extractions need to be done. Their prices are extremely reasonable compared to other vets in the area. I'm glad I found this place and I look forward to coming here with my pets from now on. Read Less

Dr. Kristen St. Dennis is a great vet. The animals like her, and she's a good communicator, which is good for me. She really knows her stuff and is good at explaining what's going on and what the different options are. She obviously cares - she does follow up phone calls and definitely goes above and beyond. Boght Vet is not a futuristic, state of the art facility. It's a neighborhood vet. The building has a little wear and tear. But it's very clean and the people are top-notch. And they will give you a referral if you need some service that they can't provide. Their prices are great, and they perform scheduling miracles to get your pet seen right away in a crisis. Honestly, I wouldn't look here for sophisticated diagnostics and surgery. For that, go to Angell out in Springfield - it's worth the drive. But if you need the animal equivalent of a family doctor, this is the perfect place. Read Less

Boght Veterinary charged me $20 when I told them I wanted to fill my prescription elsewhere because the price they charged for Heartgard was really high. No one told me about this fee until the appointment was over, at which point I had to pay for the exam. If you refuse to pay the fee, Dr. Wagoner refuses to give you the prescription, but still requires you to pay for the exam.

The tech stated "we don't call with results here." I asked what would happen if an animal needed treatment and they owner did not call and she rudely responded "well that's the owners problem." Lastly, when I was given the medication I asked what the directions were to give it and she stated "just read the bottle." On top of all this, BVC has managed to keep their services affordable, while some other clinics have put profit before care it would seem. If you’re looking for a new vet clinic, this is it. I will say that later evening hours would be nice, but it's not a deal breaker. Thanks, Boght, for doing right by the animals. Read Less

Why not put them down before the parent has to see that point and before the animal has to suffer like that? $$$$ When an animal is terminally ill and has so many meds that need to be forced down them and they are uncomfortable and old, why does the vet say no he doesn't have to be put down yet, as long as he eats some and drinks some. No person would want to live like that. This makes the owner more depressed to see it and the animal more depressed to feel like he is being abused by having to go through it all. I could go on and on about how much I love Dr. Ford...I have been bringing my 3 animals here for over 10 years and started seeing dr ford maybe 5 or 6 years ago, she's been amazing. I have a dog who had cancer and needed his leg removed, she referred me to an amazing oncologist and got us an appt with them right away. She also called me after his surgery with them to check on me and my dog which is going above and beyond in my eyes.

Read Less

Read Less
