Cortland Veterinary Hospital

Cortland, New York
General Info
Cortland Veterinary Hospital in Cortland acknowledges that factors such as caregiver energy and time of day combined with room silence influence pets' understanding of medical visits. The foundational understanding governs all their actions throughout New York. The arrangement of the room elements creates an unnatural support for stillness. The arrangement of chairs intentionally creates spaces to minimize pressure. Exam tables adjust for access and visibility. Staff members assess caregiver breathing rate vocal pitch and eye movement before interacting with the pet because animals frequently examine their humans for signals. Silence is used intentionally. The optimal initial care approach involves waiting so the dog or cat can mirror slowed rhythms before starting intervention. Cortland Veterinary Hospital delivers integrative care which encompasses organ diagnostics pain threshold analysis allergy identification hydration status exams and when appropriate energy-based wellness assessments. The visit schedule forms a crucial component of the strategy because morning pets accept more stimuli while late-day animals require initial quiet observation. Tone variation is key: lower-pitched voice interactions improve response in anxious dogs while narrowed frequency bands reduce feline startle. Post-visit instructions teach owners to use specific vocal patterns to know when to speak softly or step back, and when to position pets in sunlight or allow them rest in darkened spaces. These patterns support physical and emotional return to baseline. Cortland Veterinary Hospital creates a unified care experience for pets and their owners across New York by integrating their nervous systems into its clinical practices to achieve emotional coherence.

My wife and I discovered this place kinda or by accident. One of our cats was having breathing problems but for the longest time we thought it was a hairball caught in his throat. Plus we didn't have enough money to take him anywhere. Well one night his breathing got so bad that we had to take him. We didn't have a scheduled appointment but they fit us in. They gave him a couple shots and gave us a liquid medicine to give him everyday. Well long story short, the vet said that he was surprised that he was still alive and he probably wouldn't have made it through the night if we didn't bring him in when we did. So they saved my cats life. there is no amount of money I could give that doctor to accurately show my appreciation for saving the life of someone that is part of my family. Thank you guys so much for everything! And my handsome buddy thanks you too! Read Less

Dr. Martin and Dr. Shing are great veterinarians.  They are compassionate and take the time to answer any questions, no matter how dumb.  Twice I've taken my pet back for follow-up appointments and was told it would be no charge!  Who does that these days?  Dr. Martin just recently diagnosed my dog with diabetes and called after hours to give me blood test results and then made sure I got back in the next morning to start her on insulin injections.  Wow!I wouldn't think of going anywhere else! Dr Martin and Dr Shing have been our family vets for nearly 20 years (through multiple outdoor cats and a couple dogs), and they have been tremendous during both normal times (regular checkups, spaying/neutering, boarding, vaccinations, etc.) and during tough times (sicknesses, emergencies, and euthanizations). Their judgements have always been spot on; they are caring and great at explaining our options and care-plans; and the staff is wonderful also... We wouldn't think of going anywhere else.Read Less
