Midstate Veterinary Services

Cortland, New York
General Info
Midstate Veterinary Services in Cortland is known for providing compassionate and knowledgeable care to pets throughout the region. Their services include 24-Hour Emergency, Dental Care, and Laboratory. The dedicated team, aware of the profound connection between pets and their families, aims to ensure pet wellness, manage any chronic conditions, and address urgent medical issues. Midstate Veterinary Services in Cortland employs a system to monitor the animal’s nervous system and identify the need for pauses, redirections, or changes in setup until calm behavior is achieved (New York). Every session always begins with boundary detection, where pets move around in an attempt to familiarize themselves with the new environment. Observers need to note which spaces they ignore and the speed at which they adjust their movement. When interaction commences, the clinic team evaluates body-system indications by examining fur density (external touch tolerance) and progresses to appraise oral health (joint range) and abdominal flexibility. Owner observations have an equal weight: “stalling” before the stairs, a change in the way the dog sleeps, guards objects or interacts with certain family members. Midstate Veterinary Services provides medical mapping that includes orthopedic planning, cardiovascular listening, hydration tracking, and dermatological checking with immune calibration along energy-rest cycles. Medical procedures are typically broken down into steps, even for relatively simple diagnostics, to ensure that patients do not feel overwhelmed and can recover adequately. The distance of personnel, noise level and scent layering are adjusted accordingly to how the animals react to each threshold. Post-care observation involves the pet’s ability to reach behavioral baseline, the location in the house it prefers to stay after treatment and returning to normal social interactions or not. Assistance remains active by means of recorded visual interaction (optionally, with additional analysis of free behavior). The Midstate Veterinary Services is located in Cortland and the surrounding areas of New York. Each visit to the facility is like a journey, where they are interpreting the signals (poses and pauses) that pets make in every room, not just at check-in.

I love this place. They are so good to my Dog. We've had to call the on call vet and they've always given us great advice. They also didn't take advantage of us by making or wanting us to come in (as an emergency visit) so that they can charge $100 (off the bat). My dog has been very ill. He's getting old. They call in his meds monthly n don't make us return every month (so they can charge us). Read Less

I have used Midstate for quite a few years now for all my animals. Owning so many animals gives me a little too much experience with vets. I have horses, mules and beef cows plus dogs and farm cats. Dr Sun has been very good with my dogs and Laura is absolutely the best for my large animals. I have also had great experiences with the other large animal vets who I have had less contact with. Scheduling farm visits is not easy but Nancy is always good to work with. I’ve found the front desk easy to work with as well. I read one of the bad reviews about Midstate “being too busy” to make an emergency appointment for their cat. I have to say this person must not have been a regular client. My horses only seem to get sick on a Friday night or over the weekend and I know the on-call vets do everything they can to accommodate my animals. I’ve also had to put down animals over the weekend and again, I and my dying animal were treated with dignity, compassion and respect. I have a relationship with my vet that includes me having reasonable expectations and paying for the services I receive. In return, I have received great service overall from Midstate and I would recommend them to others. Thanks Dr Laura, Dr. Ila, Dr. Frye, Dr. Sun and Nancy! Read Less
