Veterinary Alternatives

East Aurora, New York
General Info
"There is a place for Western medicine in the care of animals, particularly for emergency care and surgery. But, for both acute and chronic care, I find that acupuncture, homeopathy, herbal medicines, cold laser therapy, and spinal manipulation therapy respect and augment the healing abilities of the body and work to restore our animals’ health much more effectively. These modalities do more than just manage symptoms, and the animals show their acceptance of it by running up to our doors, instead of pulling away."
"Alternative modalities improve the health and well-being of all of the animals we treat. The goal is to restore the animal to health, well-being and soundness so that they can maintain themselves on their own, without continued medication or herbs, whenever possible. I have found tremendous satisfaction treating my patients in this way and you were to ask them, I think they would all agree." --Dr. Alisa Koenig

Went to Dr. Alisa a couple of weeks ago and found her most knowledgeable with a real concern for the animal. Her office is not horribly clean - you can tell the most important thing to her are the animals and not if there is hair on the couch or not. I took both of my Boston Terriers to Dr Koenig because they were losing hair, itchy all of the time, had sores, some ear issues and occasionally throwing up. She spent a long time explaining dog foods. How some make the dogs run hot and some cold. She taught me about the importance of quality dog foods. I left with several remedies to help get both dogs back to the norm. Dr Koenig had also just returned from a seminar and shared with me what she learned. She also took the time and taught me the best way to take care of dogs nails. I learned a great deal in one appointment and never felt rushed! I felt compelled to share this information because of the previous post. I was not in the least offended by her home office, in fact I can appreciate someone working from home and feel I can trust that they take pride in their business because of it being in their home. I found everything to be in order and my dogs never went there with fleas nor did they come home with them. I will return. Read Less

I have been taking all of my pets (Dog and cats) to Dr. Koenig for over 15 years. I've known Alisa as a friend, a business colleague when I owned The Animal Kingdom, and as as a client with eight pets over the years. I always incorporate, both, holistic and conventional veterinary medicine for all of my pets and they have all experienced incredible results. Whether its treating kidney disease, feline lymphoma, lyme disease or general well being, Dr. Koenig is great. Not only is she compassionate and caring, but she is always striving to incorporate new holistic therapies into her practice to benefit her patients. I also like her willingness to learn new holistic therapies. You won't meet a more genuine and caring person and veterinarian. :-) Read Less

My girl always left there feeling great and for that I am grateful. The treatments are far better than any conventional medicine. I have learned so much about animal care and being a loving and responsible pet owner. I will carry that with me when I am able to try it again. The first visit I will make will be to Dr. Koenig. Regards to Alisa, always a pleasure being in your company. Chloe loved her visits. Thank you. Read Less

Dr. Koenig is kind and knowledgable, but be aware that the office is out of her home and isn't like a traditional vet's office. One of the things that was instantly off-putting was the cleanliness factor. The upholstery was old and dirty, there were cobwebs in the corners, and even used acupuncture needles on the table in the actual exam room. After vaccinating our cat, the needle tip was placed on the table too instead of disposed of immediately. Yikes! The room made me a bit uncomfortable, especially since it's clear that animals are sharing the "bed" which doubles as the exam table/acupuncture table. I told myself that certainly, it was washed between clients, but honestly, I'm not so sure, and I'm kicking myself for ignoring my gut. Not even 24 hours after the visit, my cat (who had never been outside of my home before) started scratching what I thought was incessantly. 4 days later I found fleas. Friends subsequently told me that when you take your animal to a country vet, it's probable you will bring fleas home. Trust me, if I had known, we never would have gone. I was nervous about the traditional vaccination schedule, but at the end of the day, I paid over $100 to bring fleas into my home which required nearly $300 worth of follow-up treatment. Not to mention the washing, vacuuming, and anxiety that has come along with the issue. It wasn't worth it. So to recap: Knowledgeable and kind vet Dirty office Cat brought home fleas We won't be going back. Read Less

I first took my Rottweiler to Dr.Koenig when he was limping on his front leg and after xrays at the standard vets office (which found nothing) we opted for trying acupuncture. Being into holistic and natural treatments already, I liked that she offered another direction for pet care. Not only does she provide acupuncture treatment at every appointment but she spent a lot of time with us asking questions about our dogs habits, likes and dislikes, personality and diet. She gave him a full exam and never seem rushed to get to the next appointment even if someone else was waiting.  We have since visited her to review blood work tests and discuss diet as our dog ages as well as get any vaccines he needs. When we took in our very nervous Boxer/Pit mix she was very gentle with her and very aware of when our dog was not comfortable. She was extremely patient and had no problem giving space even if it meant the appointment took a little longer. For anyone interested in holistic care including acupuncture and chinese medicine, I highly recommend taking your pets here. Read Less
