I decided to bring our German Sheppard to this clinic approximately 4 years ago when I thought what she had was a weird cough. We saw Dr. Patashnick who knew right away what the following tests had concluded, she had a megaespohagus. A few months later she was very lethargic and in just a couple days her health had declined rapidly, and she dropped a significant amount of weight. The morning I knew something was terribly wrong, was the morning of a snowstorm. We already had 6+ inches on the ground and the roads were barely touched. I called and they told me to bring her in right away. Again Dr. Patashnick knew what it was right away. She ran test to confirm her suspicions, it was pyometra. She had emergency surgery that day. She has then helped me deal with everything in between. Pneumonia (caused by megaesophagus) to hip dysplasia to me being paranoid something is wrong when nothing is. She has fielded my crazy questions and is beyond patient. She makes me feel as if I am her only client. The receptionists and techs have been nothing short of friendly and helpful. The facilities are always very clean. They also have never done a procedure prior to giving me a quote. This makes me want to address the quote another reviewer posted. If you take your animal for regular vet visits, you will not be charged for a lot of this. I have opted out of some of these items before and there are some that did not apply. The reviewer was given an estimate of $508. They start with worse case scenario and go from there. Lets break this down. Your animal must be on a flea and tick preventative for procedures, if they are, you can automatically deduct $65 because they will not need to give a flea bath and treatment. If you have the preventatives (including heart worm) at home, or buy them elsewhere, take off another $31. If your animal is up to date on vaccinations, there goes another $56. If you do not want to remove teeth and do not want a microchip, take off another $97. I'm sure you get my point. You can have them remove what you do not want/need and print you out an updated quote. It is that simple. I have tried other clinics over the last 17 years, none of which have been bad by any means, but I have never been happier than I am now with East Greenbush Animal Hospital. One star, because someone answered the phone! When I call to ask how much the procedure will cost to have my cat spayed, the receptionist tells me she doesn't know and I'll find out when I get there! What?! You have to be kidding me! No one who invests in going to veterinary school deserves such poor representation. I'm sure the vets at this establishment care a lot more about animals than the people answering their phones do... at least, I hope so.(Or, after reading some of these other reviews... maybe they don't!) My service dog, Sampson, a schipperke and I were from Tampa.  We went to EGAH because he needed major dental work and the price was very fair.  After dental work, he became a regular for grooming for several months.  We commuted between Fl. and NY.  He received his shots and Dr visits here.  Dr. Chew was his doctor.  Not being recognized as a handicapped person, the staff treated me very nice.  I had a problem on one of my visits and was unable to talk during registration.  They treated me pleasantly and took care of the situation.  He had dental work twice there and both times we were content with the work done.  I should have written this review before.  Sampson passed away at 13 yrs. and 9 mos.  I now have a same breed puppy, Asher, who will become a service dog as he gets older.  Dr. Chew is his doctor and I highly recommend this place.  I thank the doctor and staff for the care they give my pet (family member, Asher). With a friends of animals certificate you can get your pet neutered for 65 bucks. Their website listed east geenbush animal hospital as one of the places that accepts the certificate. I called them to inquire about the procedure. The woman I spoke to on the phone stated firmly I wouldn't pay anything for the appointment and the neutering was free with the certificate. The only thing I would pay for was any pain meds and after surgery care. So I scheduled the appointment. I was charged 50 dollars for the appointment. The vet did not spend more than 5 minutes in the room. Walked out with a bill of over 500 for the procedure. Very deceptive practice. Avoid them at all costs. P.s on my way out I noticed a man complaining that the same pills he got for his dog were 66 dollars and at East Greenbush they were 110. Apparently deceptive practices are a habit there. Read Less

Do not for any reason use this vet! My father in law called me after his 13 year old daughter called him at work to say that the family gig was shaking on the floor. I rushed over and took him to the family vet (eg animal hospital) that they have used for years. The place has an over powering smell of cat urine but ok it's a vet. There's 4 girls at the desk, one doing paper work, 2 talking and one doing charts. No acknowledgement until finally one asks if we are checking in. I explain the situation and we are told to have a seat one of the doctors can see us. Fast forward to when we are in the room. The tech was very nice, asking detailed questions and took the dogs temp which was high. Now Dr.Chew comes in. The first words out of her mouth "who is financially responsible?" Obviously not the child with me! She listened to his lungs, did not even touch him and said "just give me your father in laws number I need to speak with him directly" no thank you and walks out of the room. The tech comes back and says he's getting an X-ray but has no explanation, so I have to call my father in law-who is at work hence the reason I brought the dog- he tells me how the X-ray will cost $350 and Dr.Chew very rudely informed him that unless he has more money that will be all she can do, not even send him home with a prescription(which you can fill yourself online for about .35-.55 cents per pill) So X-ray is done. My 16 year old sister in law is now here with my father in law and Dr.Chew comes in and says " we can do exploratory surgery but it's expensive, if you can't afford that we can give you a steroid but if that doesn't work the dog is pretty much done" let me repeat that. She said "if that doesn't work the dog is pretty much done" in front of a 13 and 16 year old about a dog they have had their entire life! Nothing was given for fever and no physical exam done. The next day my mother in law went to get his vet records and X-ray to bring to another vet. Suddenly the tech says Dr.Chew is "so worried about him" turns out the dog was constipated. Can you imagine?! This Dr.Chew with zero bedside manner, who did no physical exam, only seemed to be concerned with money wanted to do expensive exploratory surgery on a dog she didn't even physically exam, and so callously told 2 children "the dog is pretty much done". All the dog needed was to poop. DO NOT USE THIS VET unless you want to spend a ton on what you don't need and probably loose your beloved pet. After reading other reviews seems it is not uncommon here*edit* to the owners reply, I am 32 years old, not a minor. I was present. Naturally you would get no reply your staff was  rude, had a complete lack of compassion or tact around a minor and almost sentenced a dog to death for Constipation. Money was the driving factor behind this entire interaction. Read Less

My dear little miniature beagle rescue has been going to EGAH for about 7 months. She's been in for a series of shots and boarding. We've spent hundreds of dollars there.                                                                                Since the very beginning, I've asked about dental cleaning. I know that my dog needs it and that it's expensive. On the first visit last summer, I was quoted about $750. In late February of 2018, I was quoted $780 and told that there would be a $72 discount, so it would cost just over $700. I made an appointment. Now, days before she's suppose to go in for the procedure, I call up to confirm. The receptionist tells me that the dental cleaning will cost me more than $1,000 and possibly over $1,100! How did the dog's dental costs suddenly soar by $400? I canceled the procedure immediately.  One of the doctors called me back and apologized. She said the February quote was wrong and that it was their mistake for not giving me that quote in writing. She suggested that if we went through with procedure, I might be pleasantly surprised and it "might cost only about $800," but it's difficult to say because they want to put my dog through x-rays and do much more than just scrape her teeth. I told the doctor that the lack of communication in her office was not good especially since I called repeatedly back in February before I actually booked the dental cleaning. These new quotes make me feel too vulnerable. I'm at their whim.  I think that I can keep my dog healthy without burning a hole in my pocket. I will get the procedure done elsewhere. Read Less

My rabbit had an operation for an abscess on his Jaw. I was told that the surgery would be around $1k if teeth had to be pulled. When the doctor called me, she told me she did not have to pull teeth that she just trimmed them. When i went in to pick him up from surgery, Jada the receptionist had me pay and I asked why the price was $1,140 and she told me that they would go over everything after I paid and went into the room. A tech was sent in and she did not go over any pricing with me and barely knew how to answer any of my questions that I had. I noticed his right eye was swollen and I asked her why and all she said was “we gave him eye drops during surgery”. I was supposed to get a phone call telling me when the results of the culture came in so they could figure out the correct antibiotic to put him on. They never called me. I called them when I ran out of my previous antibiotic to see if I could get more, which I was given a hard time about because I was told Dr.Chew was on vacation. If I had known this prior, I would have waited on surgery because I know how fragile rabbits can be. Friday I took my rabbit in and saw Dr. Spock, when I addressed my concern about my rabbits eye again, he said “I’m not worried about it”, re-opened the scab from surgery, flushed it and prescribed more antibiotics. Saturday I came home and my rabbits eye was all blown out and swollen even more due to infection. Tonight I brought him to the emergency clinic because he was shaking and had shallow breathing. Upon examination I was told that there was still a lot of the abscess and infection in incision. He died on the way home. He was only 1 year old. There was no reason for this to happen. If things were dealt with in a more professional manner, my bunny would still be here. Read Less

Brought my bunny Sylvia there for care, these seemed concerned enough over the years, but brought her in with GI Stasis issues Monday, and they seemed unconcerned or resigned to the fact that she wasn't save able. She died yesterday. They were happy to charge me $200 for the visit, happy to send me home with drugs for her, but unable to tell me she was either past recovery or didn't offer me on site solutions to clear her blockage. I'm sort of feeling I lost a beloved pet to their  cavalier  attitude of "rabbits are fragile" comment. Maybe that's how it goes with bunnies but I certainly wasn't above paying to care for her health, and they should have known by the $1000's I've spent there over the last 3 years. Came in to their clinic by a reference from another vet and because they were the vet in the local area that knew about rabbits.  It was really a very tragic incident when the assistant was taking a health history on my bunny, she had a seizure.  They immediately took her in the back. Unfortunately she did not live, but the staff was sooo extremely kind and helped me by putting her in the car after placing her in a box that they had decorated for me. It was sweet and warm hearted and it was what I needed as it was a huge shock for me and I completely did not expect that outcome. I definitely recommend this vet clinic just for the human compassion they showed me alone today. If they even do read these reviews, I also just want to THANK You all from the bottom of my heart. It was a difficult day that I will remember forever and think fondly. of your staff for being exactly what I needed in that moment. I appreciated the HUG from the assistant too... Initially I brought my other animals to another vet, but I wasn't happy with their prices or their personalities. So, I tried EGAH...EGAH is great. Their prices are fair. And, very importantly, their attitudes and interactions with myself and my pet, are very welcoming, friendly, and clear. We feel comfortable talking through issues with both the vet tech and the doctor as each is knowledgeable and the techs and doctors seem to communicate effectively.I have never had a bad experience with a doctor, tech, or receptionist. While everyone is nice, I am particularly impressed with the vet tech, Becky, and Dr. Sr. Denis. Both are friendly and approachable. Read Less

Tony and I have used EGAH for approximately 9 years.  They have cared for a total of 4 dogs and 9 cats that we've had throughout the years. We've used their boarding, grooming and veterinarian care services.   We shared the joys of bringing a new patient to them and also the sad times of letting our loved one go.  Throughout all these experiences they have provided quality care to our animals.   We have nothing but positive things to say about their practice.  The care that our animals receive is competent and compassionate.  We primarily see Dr. Chew but during incidences when she was unavailable we've used other veterinarians at their practice and were still one-hundred percent satisfied.  It's very evident that all their employees truly love animals and are dedicated to providing quality  care. I have two rabbit friends and we have been going to the East Greenbush Animal Hospital(EGAH) for just about two years now. In those two years I have never had a bad experience.Everyone on the staff is friendly, the vet techs as well as the veterinarians I've met are knowledgeable of rabbits and genuinely seem to care about my buns. Both of my rabbits have been neutered at EGAH, the procedure is costly but included a complimentary ear cleaning, nail trim, and a two week post neuter follow up appointment to make sure everything is healing correctly. Now we go about every 8 weeks for nail trims(my buns won't let me do it) and once a year we have a check up with Dr.Chew, who takes the time to address any issues, concerns or questions that we may have. I took my rabbit here on the recommendation of the House Rabbits Society. Some vets are clueless when it comes to animals other than cats and dogs, but Dr. Chew  really put me at ease. She's raised several rabbits, and hey, her name would even make a good name for a rabbit. It was neutering time, or as they call it, "castration - rabbit," and they were really good with him. Only one rabbit in 13 years has had complications after surgery there. And it'd better be safe, because after two trips, I've already paid them more than 10 times what the little guy cost me to begin with! I have no idea what vets cost, but man oh man, rabbit castration is not a cheap business. They have a big lobby with a huge aquarium, and little waiting rooms. I recommend this place for you and your cockapoo, maltipoo, pekeapoo, and miniature neopolitan cocker dalmapugglabradoodle. Read Less

What?! You have to be kidding me! No one who invests in going to veterinary school deserves such poor representation. My service dog, Sampson, a schipperke and I were from Tampa.

Doctor Etherington is just the best. My pup had several complicated issues but she was on top of everything. She even called a few days after an appointment to see whether out shift in treatment was helping. Who does that?? The whole staff is compassionate and professional. Very disappointed customer......I called to get my pets heart worm medication the other day.The receptionist said I couldn't get it because I was supposed to have made an appointment a week prior( which I wasn't aware of) regardless,it was a week off ,not a year off of the date that the appointment should be made. All of my pets other shots have been completely up to date ( even the unnecessary shots that they don't need to give as frequently as they do).The receptionist made it completely impossible and a long drawn out ordeal just to make an appointment for an exam to get heart meds. The receptionist and the owner are also very rude.To be honest even before this I found the facility and staff to be more concerned with money( upselling) than care of pets, Read Less

As I am a mom of 4 with a deployed hubby and I was trying to hold it together so I could break the news to them when I returned.... thank you so much, for giving me a moment to be weak, so I in turn could be strong for my family. I have been a client of this vet for many years. Last week I had to make the hardest decision of my life and put my mini dachshund down. As a patient they wanted to charge me $95! That's just for the euthanasia!! Go to Nassau Vet. I was not a patient ( I am now), no office visit charge and was told $46. Not only were the the best caring staff, but I was able to hold my little girl as she was taken to her final resting place, sent home in a beautiful casket and a plaster paw print <3. Today I received a condolence card. Don't let East Greenbush Animal Hospital make a profit they don't deserve. Go where they care and know you are suffering as well. 766-2636. We have been going to this veterinery hospital for 10+years. Everyone has always been kind and caring. Unfortunately we have had both a very old beloved dog, a few years ago and a very sick beloved cat a couple weeks ago who had to be euthanized. Both times the staff were caring and respectful and attentive to our needs. They even followed up on our painful day with a card and flowers. Don't know of any other vet who does that. Thank you to Dr.Etherington and everyone else for your great care and thoughtfulness to our "furry family members" even at their end Read Less

Brought my  sick kitty in.  shes only 2 and suddenly became ill.  ran tests to find  kidney issues.. which i know could still be treated.  she told us our baby had no hope and we should euthanize her.  I asked vet Rachel to explain and she became rude and didnt even treat our kitty.  then we took kitty to the 24 hour clinic in Latham and they took her right in , put her on IV and told us next 24 hours may be tough but that there was hope and that they treat this often.  All in all, the vet at EG aninmal hospital had poor etiquette and lack of  knowledge.  come to find out 2 other people who were told to put their animals to sleep by this place left because the people were rude as well...and had them treated somewhere else,.. and their animals are alive and well to this day! I've been taking my babies to EGAH since they opened. I think I have visited every doctor and assistant and have zero complaints. They have attended to every need from the most basic yearly shots to the frantic OMG I'm driving to you and will be there in 5 minutes.  They have boarding but I haven't used that service.  They also have grooming and I have used that in the past but for Basset Hounds it is really just nail clipping and shampoo - can't really go wrong in that regard.I've had 3 dogs and 2 cats over the past years and I wouldn't dream of ever leaving their care to anyone but the doctors and staff at the EGAH! Read Less
