I live in Manhattan. Wanting a second opinion - my vet encouraged me to do so - about possible next steps for my cat (who had surgery for sarcoma a year earlier), before making an appointment with an oncologist, a friend of mine recommended Dr. Ullmann at this facility. ( Dr. Ullmann is one of the two founders. ) Dr. Ullmann reviewed the lab results and the x-rays that my primary vet shared, and then of course examined the cat and ran new labs and did some x-rays on the spot. She discovered that in the past two weeks since the prior x-ray, my cat had developed significant edema - there was none two weeks prior - and determined from the x-rays and the labs that my cat's cardiac situation was more pressing than the masses that were of course still present. She determined that my cat was not likely to survive the follow-up tests ( MRI's, CTScans ) that an oncologist would be likely to recommend to explore the masses, given the oncologist's understandable perspective. This was the essence of a productive second opinion visit, and also evidence of Dr. Ullmann's broader perspective on the health of the cat. (Dr. Ullmann personally called in two medications (one for edema; one for the underlying heart condition; shared her findings with my primary vet; and instructed me to see my primary vet in two weeks, to repeat the blood works and I am presuming another set of x-rays). I am genuinely puzzled by some of the other unfavorable reviews here, but I note that they are all with respect to office administration rather than veterinary care. For my part, I would not hesitate to recommend this veterinary center, and of course Dr. Ullmann, to anyone, either as a primary vet or for second opinions. They do indeed have a full-service facility - all the tests that Dr. Ullmann needed to conduct she did so on the spot - and I myself found the office staff completely professional as well as attentive, friendly, and also caring. The same was true, of course, of Dr. Ullmann. Read Less

I had taken my dog to the Veterinary Center of East Northport numerous times. I was referred by a friend to see Dr. Gantt for a ALC/meniscus tear on my dog. I had a regular vet in Miller place where I live. That was about 3 years ago. We had previously discussed cleaning my dogs teeth as well. The surgery appeared to be at least semi-successful at first, although she kept limping on and off for almost 2 years after. Then finally, the artificial ligament that was placed , snapped, leaving a rolled up ball on her knee. Now I didn't even get upset at this predicament, because nothing in medicine, human or otherwise, is guaranteed 100%. Stuff happens. So we went back recently to get her boosters two weeks ago and have her teeth cleaned under anesthesia last week.. today we returned for the final stages of two different shots. I asked the nice assistant about a possible complication from the dental cleaning and surgery (she had her gums cut back because they were overgrown). I asked the assistant if Dr. Gantt was in surgery, he was not, he was basically just behind a door in the next room. SHE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE 20$ TO ASK THE DOCTOR A QUESTION!! REALLY!??! She said "you can call him instead?" He was RIGHT THERE! So I spent about $600 for a cleaning last week, and the doctor cannot answer a quick concern without more payment? That is straight up nickel and dime money grubbing. Not to mention I paid around $1800 for a surgery that failed, and I was downright decent about that. So I was a bit put off, and I said, forget it . Just give me the 2nd step of the boosters that we came for. She was taken in a back room , and I paid my bill, which NOW included a TECH VISIT charge of $29 to administer the shots. Again, money grubbing tactic. I'm a dentist, when you make an appointment with me to do a procedure, say a root canal, you pay for the root canal.. I don't charge you an extra $29 to actually see me so you can then pay for the actual procedure. Also, any doctor should see patients for post operative visits/questions without charging the patient more. I can't imagine how my patients would feel if they wanted to see me for pain after an extraction, and I told them, "I'll see you but it will be $50 more if you want me to look at a possible complication from the surgery I DID"!!!!! Unbelievable. So in closing. paid good money for a failed knee surgery, and instead of being treated with extra special care or concern, I'm (my dog) still seen as sponge that is to be squeezed of every last drop of water you can get. Thats pathetic. I will NOT be back. Hope the $29 tech visit and $20 "Ask the doc a question" fee was worth it. Read Less

This yelper is from San Francisco California but apparently they take their cat to Long Island to be seen for care. It's miraculous that this yelper states he's a physician and gives a five star review when just three days ago I stated I'm a dentist and gave a one star review. Oh, by the way, he knows every persons name in the office!!! How convenient. Do you LIVE there? Or just make frequent visits from San Fran?  lol .  This is obviously a scam review , or a personal friend of the office, and should not be allowed on yelp. His account was miraculously created 2 days after I left my review and this is his only yelp review. Bogus! Read Less

Whatever you do, do not take your dog here. I try to avoid writing bad reviews but I could not help it. I called to make a first time emergency appt for my dog because his ear was in a lot of pain. When I called to make the appt and explained my dog has severe anxiety and needs an anti anxiety pill to go to the vet, they said they cannot do that and take him elsewhere if that is the case. This morning we managed to get our dog to the appt (20 minutes late because he was so anxious to get in the car) and when we finally got there, the secretary told us we were late and the doctor could not see us for another 2 hours. We explained that he is so anxious and it was so hard for us to get him here and he is in SEVERE pain, she began yelling at us saying We should have been on time and not 20 mins late. She spoke to the doctor who said the same. How can a vet and the staff at an animal clinic turn away a dog in so much pain with so much anxiety? Aren't they supposedTo be animal lovers? I would never bring my dogs to a vet clinic like this. Read Less

The doctor was very nice, the quick turnaround and everything was wonderful. HOWEVER, trying to get my dogs medicine IS A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE! This place will NOT fax out or authorize prescriptions to Dr Foster Smiths or 1-800-PetMeds. Their limited offering of expensive prescriptions left me with a piece of paper and completely unable to get my dogs medicine unless I snailmail my prescription to a vendor. Additionally, they will not fill my dogs prescription with REFILLS so this nightmare will be repeated endlessly. Awful experience and now I can't even get my old dog her medicine to make her comfortable. Completely unhelpful. I'd give them 0 stars if I this would allow me to. Read Less

OK this was on the wrong Vet place down the street, so my apologies to that facility as I have no personal experience with that Vet hospital. They only do medical boarding and just so anyone who reads this understands, this is about the boarding and follow-up, not about the Vets.If you didn't know, this place does board your best friends. However... reader beware. This place is not flexible nor are they understanding.I have lived all over the country and like to board my dogs at where they get their care since if an issue arises, there is someone who can take care of the issue immediately.I chose this place not only on a recommendation from friends but also because they board.  However, their policy for cancellation is very rigid and the deposit they take is for 50% of the length of stay.I was traveling for business to another state. I did the reservation for my dogs 1 day before I left.  2 hours before I was supposed to leave, the business matter was abruptly cancelled. My bags were packed and I was on my way to dropping off my dogs. I called and had to cancel every reservation that I had. I called this place and was directed to the office manager. My husband was directed to speak to the owner. He left a message and never received a return phone call. I had to call 3 times before I was able to get the office manager. I explained the unforeseen circumstances that was beyond my control. This was not a vacation. I personally did not cancel my plans.  She stated that it was nonrefundable. I tried to explain the business and what happened. Her response was that my dogs took up space for others and so they had to take 2 1/2 days deposit. She did not offer any other solution. Other places only take 1 day deposit. I wouldn't have written this except that this customer experience was awful and to let people know our experience.BTW, all the other businesses that I had made reservations, refunded my deposits for my travel (rental car, hotel, airlines). Extremely disappointed in the integrity of this animal clinic. We called in to inquire about pricing regarding his next visit because on our last visit about nine months ago they charge me over $500. After getting the information they were still quite a bit higher than our local Petco in terms of giving him his vaccine. We figured they were closer and it and it is good to have a local veterinarian. This was, after the visit they charged almost 3 times the amount of Petco, and over $100 more then what was said over the phone. They had to charge a wellness charge, and when we asked why they did not mention this over the phone they said we must've missed it. Not to mention when I brought up things that were wrong with our pet, they just referred to going elsewhere for help. Didn't look like they can help us thereTo be honest this place seems to only care about making money and not taking care of your pet. I would recommend going else where. Go to a place that actually cares and will be honest about the cost of things, don't go to people that just want to rip you off. Read Less

After 11 years of using this vet, I called to order a bag of the prescription dog food my dog has been on since she was a puppy.  I was told they wouldn't sell it to me, because I was a year late for my "well visit".  I booked an appointment for two weeks, and discussed the fact that the dog would need a dental service, as well ($$$).  The more I thought about it, the more upset I got.  Why didn't they mention anything sooner?  I buy several bags over the course of the year from them.  My dog was going to run out of food.  I decided to call and cancel my appointment and find another vet.  The receptionist was as rude and dismissive as possible, making the whole situation worse.  I have never spoken to anyone with worse customer service skills.  It's a shame, because the doctor is a very nice guy, and I'm sure he has no idea what a nasty, rude person he has answering his phones and dealing with his customers.  I told her that a more reasonable response would have been "you need to come in, we'll sell you a bag this one time but it's the last one'.  She said thats the policy.  I'm sure the doctor would have handled it differently, but I'm also sure he'll never hear about the conversation.   I guess 11 years of loyalty is meaningless at this office, where they obviously care only about the money and not the dog. Dr. Piliero is an amazing veterinarian. You can tell that she truly loves animals and knows all about their inner workings. She could tell my dog was scared and hurting and was so good with him. She also cares about the "parents" of the animals. We found out that my dog has a torn CCL and she recommended that he get a surgery to repair which she then told me could cost upwards up $5,000.00. Being unemployed at the moment this almost gave me a heart attack. Although, Unlike the last money-hungry Vet we had she actually gave me options on medically treating my pup instead of putting me into debt. She did not push anything on me and put my mind at ease. Since being put on the medication my dog has been more mobile and doesn't seem to be in any pain. It truly makes me sick to my stomach to think my baby would be hurting. We still have a little ways to go but I am confident that no matter what happens he will be in good/caring hands. The hospital is new and very clean, the receptionists and assistants are all extremely nice as well. Ullmann. Read Less

I live in Manhattan.  Wanting a second opinion - my vet encouraged me to do so - about possible next steps for my cat (who had surgery for sarcoma a year earlier), before making an appointment with an oncologist, a friend of mine recommended Dr. Ullmann at this facility.  ( Dr. Ullmann is one of the two founders. )Dr. (Dr. Ullmann personally called in two medications (one for edema; one for the underlying heart condition; shared her findings with my primary vet; and instructed me to see my primary vet in two weeks, to repeat the blood works and I am presuming another set of x-rays).I am genuinely puzzled by some of the other unfavorable reviews here, but I note that they are all with respect to office administration rather than veterinary care. Ullmann.
