We love this animal clinic! We have a 7 year old Akita mix and he can be very nervous at the doctor's office but everyone there is incredibly kind and caring with him.  Dr. Thomas and Dr. Kwasnik are excellent- they provide thoughtful and knowledgeable information to take care of our dog and are constantly working to ensure that he is healthy.  The nurses and staff are wonderful- they go out of their way to be kind to my dog and to give me as much information as possible.  I am so thankful to have them taking care of our Bonzai! Dr. Kwasnik has always been very kind and professional when it came to our late dog. He is intelligent, and always tries to provide you with as much information as possible. During trying times, he always made sure to call us back and answered any questions we may have had. We plan to bring the new addition to our family to him soon! Please keep in mind that I am solely giving this review to reflect him, and him alone. We refuse to see any other vet at their facility besides him and Dr. Thomas, who is also very good, but I think semi-retired now. We are not fans of one of his older female vet techs, who is very moody and impatient, nor the female vet at this location. The female vet is very timid, and does not do a good job. I can't even begin to tell you how many times she stuck my dog with a needle because she "couldn't find a vein", which ended up injuring him. It is obvious that she is a newbie who does not possess the surety a vet should have. Always call ahead to see what vet is there before you make your appointment. Read Less

I see a lot of mixed reviews here about the clinic and can understand how some haven't had great experiences because I myself noticed there were times I walked out relieved and times I walked out scared, confused and heading over to another vet for a second opinion until I met Dr. Kwasnik. I am not comfortable with any other Vet at this clinic. My five stars are for him. He's helped me take great care of all 4 of my dogs that I've had in my life over the last 16 years. When I rescued my first dog, a Dalmatian, I happened to walk in to the clinic and meet him for the first time. He gave her the routine shots and gave me so much information on the breed in that ONE VISIT that I was able to help her later on in her senior years.  Unfortunately he took a sabbatical when I went through my difficult times with her, but he left me so well informed I was able to help another vet (outside of this clinic) put the pieces of the puzzle together so fast that we were able to skip a lot of medical exams saving precious time and money that I didn't have. I was able to buy Sasha 2 1/2 more years of life. I called the office a year later to check to see if he came back when I had an issue with my black lab. I wanted a second opinion and thankfully he was back. Another vet in Queens diagnosed her with epilepsy and wanted her on medication at the age of 2 which would have cost me a pretty penny every month and damaged her liver and kidneys. Dr. Kwasnik simply changed her diet and her symptoms/seizures went away. It wasn't epilepsy, it was simply an allergic reaction to grains. Madison is 12 now and he said she is one of the healthiest 12 year old labs he's ever met. He also helped me with my pit bull a year later. Another vet in Long Island couldn't clear up the yeast infection in his ears. After charging my boyfriend for three visits, antibiotics and ear cleaning solutions with no success, I made the trip to Queens to Dr. Kwasnik. He fixed everything in ONE visit. Tyson's ears cleared up in days.  And finally, I took my little maltese who happened to grow a tumor after a few months of me having her. He gave her a check up and told me surgery was required but he didn't push me to have any surgery done at the clinic. He respected my decision to take her to the Animal Medical Center in NYC since I was concerned about pain management and it was a big procedure. After her successful surgery, she required routine check ups every 6 months. Dr. Kwasnik has handled all of her follow ups and other matters since then. She is stable and happy too! I fully trust Dr. Kwasnik with all of my furballs. He's very good at listening and asking questions to put together each case. He takes the time to process everything and is great at finding solutions without breaking the bank. He is very considerate of your time and wallet! In my experiences he sincerely cares about his furry patients and what they mean to their obsessed humans. (Guilty ) Read Less

We have been taking our dog to the Animal Clinic of Queens since she was a puppy and love Dr.Kircus, she is a great vet and great with her. However I am not at all fond of the vet tech that we have had the last two times. She is a bit arrogant, did not like that we questioned the scale and I HATE the noose-like rope they insist on putting around my dog's neck. She is a 70lb Sheprador, a very sweet girl but trembles and is afraid of the metal scale they also use as a table. This "intelligent" woman not only tried to pick up my dog by her legs to put her on it while my husband was calming her down and this teach was actually was annoyed that she was afraid. We adopted her at the age of 31/2 months as a rescue from Virginia and although she will be 4yo in September there are still things and noises that she does not like. If you work with animals-especially mine that you have seen before- YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS!!! What really irritated me was that she was beginning to speak about me/us in Spanish while I was waiting for the final bill and still in the waiting room^-^ Do not ever assume that someone does not understand you just because they are a different nationality. Everyone else there is great but I will be researching to see if the vet works anywhere else as I will not be putting my baby through dealing with her (the tech) again. Read Less

They are the absolute best! I wouldn't trust ANYONE else with my fur baby! Anytime I have some sort of emergency they are always able to fit me in sometime that day (even if I do have to end up waiting a little - but honestly who would complain about the wait when you were squeezed in last minute?!) It's funny because the only reason I ended up taking my dog here when I first adopted her is because my mom told me this was the vet we used to take my guinea pig to about 10 years ago. I figured I'd give them a chance and I'm so happy I did. Personally I love Dr. Caporale, he is the type of man who really explains everything to you. My neighbor had been taking her dogs to juniper valley for years. One morning her pup woke up extremely sick and they wouldn't fit him in. I immediately gave her Dr Thomas' number and they fit her in within the hour!!I also love how they have another office on freshpond road. One time when my puppy chewed up a pen they sent me over to the freshpond office so I could get her checked out right away and make sure she didn't swallow any parts. If you want good, genuine, caring people looking after your babies I would definitely bring them here! Read Less

Edit, 11/30/2015: Allow me to explain myself. The bill that I thought was $130 turned out to be $400 and change. I didn't realize this until I got in a bill in the mail from my Care Credit account that I had opened in case the bill was high. When I left the vet to check my cat out, the receptionist made it seem as if my bill only came out to $130. Maybe it's a failure of me reading between the lines, but turned out they had charged $275 to my Care Credit account and the remainder was $130. Why they didn't just charge the whole thing to my Care Credit account is beyond me. They claim this is what the account covered and I had the option of charging the remainder. That makes no sense. Granted, I was in state of panic when they told me how much it was going to cost when I brought my cat in but I feel like I was taken advantage of because of that fact. When I checked him out and they told me it was only $130 I was so relieved I didn't think anything of it until I got the bill from Care Credit in the mail. Criticize me if you will for being ignorant but when someone tells me the bill is only $130, you tell me if you wouldn't feel relieved too and walk out happy and stupid. I blame myself for my own gullibility and allowing myself to overlook something so stupid. Moral of the story is, I should've known something was up when the bill to check him out seemed to good to be true. I'm never going back to this vet again. $400 some odd dollars for them to tell me to give my cat medicated food. Thanks for nothing! Happy Festivus! My grievance this year is against you and your crappy vet office! My cat has been sick for months. I've brought him to 2 other vets with no luck. The first vet wanted to keep doing tests and the last one made me feel like there wasn't much to help my cat feel better. I apologize but I don't know the doctor's name who helped me but he was great. Initially, I thought I was going to have to pay potentially $700 on x-rays but the doctor only did what was necessary and the bill only came out to $130. He's convinced that my cat has some form of kidney disease. He did not pressure me to do more tests but instead he gave me medicine, some cans of food, and fish oil too. All this seems to be helping my cat so much in just a matter of days. I was really starting to lose hope that my cat would ever feel better. I'm not sure if he's 100% curable but I know that at least for his time left with me he'll be comfortable and I can thank this vet's office for that. Thank you.Read Less

I asked to make an appointment with Dr. Kwasnik around 3 years ago because he told me he could clean my dog's teeth on a Saturday so I wouldn't have to try to get there early in the morning before I went to work during the week and I was told Dr. Kwasnik DOES NOT WORK THERE ANYMORE. The doctors are great but the staff is horrible.  I had brought my dog there for about 5 years.  It seems the last year or so they have a different staff which is horrible.  I went there on a monthly bases for medication for my dog.  For the first 6 months of picking up the medication everything was fine.  Never had a problem with getting a refill.  I always dealt with the same girl and when she left is when i began having problems. After the 6 months they kept giving me the wrong amounts of medication and tried charging me different prices.  Every time after that I always had a problem with getting the correct medication.Second issue I had with the staff was when I had to put my dog to sleep. I had my dog cremated.  They told me I would have his ashes in about 10 businesses days.  After 18 business days I called on Tuesday to check the status and was told the ashes would be there that week either Wednesday or Thursday.  She also emphasized  that someone would call me.  No one called so the following week I called again.  This time they said the ashes have been there for over 3 weeks.  When I said I had called last week why was I told the ashes weren't there. The response I got was "oh they probably never checked to see".  That was the final decision for me to not go back there. Read Less

Dr. Kwasnik is a great vet. Recently we got a little English Bulldog puppy and were referred to Howard beach vets by the breeder. It was the worst experience of my life. English bulldogs are very sensitive breed and require careful examination. In Howard beach, they took literally 10 minutes with us, they pet the dog told us he was cute and looks healthy and let us go. Puppy started having some respiratory issues and I was reffered to Dr Thomas's clinic. Today we went and we are super happy with the care provided. Dr Kwasnik carefully examined everything asked us questions about his behavior and problems, answered ours and helped us a lot. I would highly recomend this clinic and this doctor to anyone, especially English bulldog owners, because this doctor is very experienced with the breed!Highly recomend!!! Read Less

I started going here when we first got our bulldog puppy in 09.  At first they seemed great-they were attentive and answered all of my questions. As time went on, i felt like i was inconveniencing them. I can't remember the doctor's name, but he was a younger guy.  I always happened to go at the time he was working because that's just what my work scheduled allowed.  He continuously told me how fat my dog was getting and insinuated that i couldn't take care of her.  I always felt like he was talking down to me.  When my dog reached 6 months old, i talked to the doctor about getting her spayed.  he actually told me that i shouldn't get her spayed at the risk she'll get too fat.  he then told me the risks of not getting her spayed included breast cancer and illness involving the uterus.  How is that a valid argument?  I went ahead and made an appointment for her to get spayed anyway. When i took her in for the surgery-of course that doctor was working and was the one who was performing her surgery.  When he saw me walk through, he said "i really don't want to do this surgery".  Very unprofessional.  I then had problems getting information to send to ASPCA for the health insurance claim for the spaying.  The whole experience was a nightmare. The staff was nice at times.  Most times they seemed too busy to care about being nice to their customers.  I went there to pick up medicine for my dog, and i had to wait 45 minutes in the waiting room.  If you are looking for a great vet-message me! I have a five year old boxer and I first went to the vet because it was a highly recommended place. For about two years my boxer had a bump on here leg and each time we went we asked about it and the vet said it was nothing and that it would go away on it's own. Finally I was fed up and told them to test it because its been two years and nothing has changed the results came back and it was stage two cancer. Of course I was outraged because the vets always said it was nothing to worry about, so they took it off immediately but not without leaving my dog with a huge unnecessary scar that wasnt properly stitched. She now has a huge scar that looks like it is tearing apart and there are two huge bulges of skin at each end. I went ot another vet and they said that they stitiched it too tight because it was on her leg and she has to move it. Then to make it even worse when i went back to get her stitches taken out the vet had no clue who my dog was or why she was there but the vet technician knew everything and the way he was talking led me to believe that they allowed him to perform my dogs surgery. If you care about your dog and cats don't bring them to this vet and I've talk to other owners who had similiar problems with their dogs having tumors and then hours later the dog collapsed and almost died and when they brought their dog to a new vet they said they should have never let you leave the office. If you love your dog don't bring them here! Read Less

I took one of my dogs here for the first time due to injuries from an altercation with another dog. I called them as they were the closest vet to me and explained the situation. They were more than helpful instructing me on what to do and took us in as a walk in right away with no problem and Dr.Sirkis and everyone else on staff that day was so helpful. I was very nervous about my dog being okay and they were all very reassuring and very helpful. I don't feel like they tried to make me pay for anything other than what my pet really needed. I really felt as though she cared about my pet. Everyone on staff was so comforting to my furry baby that I ended up brining my second one to her as well for his annual check up. Again Dr.Sirkis was amazing as was everyone on staff. I'm very happy to have found a great place to take both my babies. Read Less

Our 2 cats were neutered at this clinic and Dr. Kwasnik was always very helpful, professional and compassionate. One day we took our sick cat there for diagnosis and treatment but Dr. Kwasnik was unavailable, so we were seen by Dr. Sirkis. She diagnosed our kitty quickly and she was mindful of the cost so that our bill would be manageable. We really appreciated her just being down to earth, understanding and most of all loving, caring and such compassionate doctor. We highly recommend this clinic Read Less

Read Less
