I previously had two poodles and a Vet I trusted wholeheartedly located in Elmont. Long story short they passed after many many years. After 2 years I finally decided to get a girl dog. This Clinic was on the list and close to my home. I thought well I'll give them a try. The minute I get an estimated bill (before you examine my girl) or If I don't like the Vibe I'm outta there. Well it's been almost 2 years and multiple visits and I'm very Happy to report I've never received an estimated bill or been in sticker shock. The staff has always been friendly, pleasant and helpful to me. They remind me of my appointments and I ask the cost before I even get there. Although I WILL only see Dr. Neslon and make my appointment(s) when he is there. (He preformed surgery on my girl and called me 2xs to let me know how she was doing). I can see/feel he loves what he does which makes a great difference to whom you are entrusting your furbaby to. Thank you - Keep up the Good work! Read Less

I have been going to this clinic since 2009. First took my cat who eventually passed away from Cancer, the Vets and staff were so compassionate and helpful as I went through the experience. They even assisted with house calls in the end as my cat was too anxious and upset to leave the house to get her injections. When I adopted two rescues they strongly encouraged me to get Trupanion. It was a lifesaver. Within the first few months of my first rescue, he cut up his neck-later turned out to be allergies. They consistently treat my cats as well as you could. I consider them family. I am in awe of some of the poor reviews as I cannot even imagine the bad experiences described as happening. The office staff are always friendly and talk to me about how my cats are doing. Pets are expensive and tests are as well. This office always has the pet in mind. In summary, I have seen multiple Vets and have nothing but kind words to say about them. Read Less

Last time I was here was almost 4 years ago. So not sure how things are today though going by the reviews not much changed. Really too bad, they're less than 5 min walk from my house and I really wanted to like them. Just a money squeeze, very annoying. Something is always being pushed (unnecessary vaccines, new food, treats, vitamins, insurance) and there's lots of pressure applied. Each time there's a new vet. Bad advice given many times. If I took their advice on allergies then my dog (5 months old at the time) would've been on lifetime shots by now and I'm sure with many more problems developed from the ongoing shots. Instead, changing the food to raw cleared it. He's 4 years now, no allergies. When I suggested going to raw I was ridiculed and told I will kill my dog. Few more things happened at this place. I really hope they get their stuff together. There are so many dog owners around here. Everyone I spoke to say same things I say, so they're not coming here either. Everyone chooses to drive far away (I don't have a car but I go out of my way to get one when I need one) just to not come here. Wouldn't it make more sense to hire good staff, stop the money squeeze at the expense of our pets getting unnecessary procedures and meds and developing more problems because of it, and just run a good operation with many happy clients? I'm really hoping this happens. I have 2 dogs now, would really love a good vet this close. As would hundreds of pet owners around here. Read Less

I will not be returning to this vet. I thought I'd give them a chance since I live in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, I have the same sentiment as the other reviewers. The staff was just ok. Not too friendly. The waiting room was fine, Glad it didn't smell like "pets". I was right on time for my appointment but was in the waiting room for over 30 mins just waiting. That was annoying. The vet came in and was abrupt and also not very friendly and I'm positive my pooch got a bad vibe from the get go. This was not his first vet visit and when she stuck him with the rabies vaccine his eyes popped out of his head. Never happened before. She must have been really rough. She then proceeded to trim his nails and again his eyes were bulging out of his head. He was TERRIFIED and has never acted like this before. She got to the 3rd paw cut the quick aka the nerve ending in his nail!!! Again, never happened! Best part is that as I was walking home I noticed a brown spot on his butt. My dog was so scared, he actually shit himself during this nightmare of a visit. It must have been during the struggle when the assistant and was holding him down and the vet was manhandling him. Unbelieveable. My poor pooch was traumatized and they had the audacity to say next time I come in to trim his nails it should be within a month or so. I will HELLA not be returning to trim his nails or otherwise, even if this is the last vet on earth. As a side note I asked how much a teeth cleaning would be and the person at the front desk said about $2000. Me thinks not Read Less

I went to this vet once and I will never go again. My cat hurt her leg and the doc who examined her took blood and told me to keep an eye on her and call back. She didn't tell me she would be on vacation for several weeks so I wouldn't be able to talk to her when I called back. She said X-rays would be the next step but didn't tell me anything about what might be the problem. The staff gave me an overall feeling that I was inconveniencing them just by being there. When I called to talk to the dr the person on the phone actually said "well what do you want me to do about it". Thanks for that. I've since found out that they also charge relatively astronomical prices for blood tests and didn't even do all the necessary tests. I actually experienced the same thing Natalie R went through. I was a very naive new pet owner and wanted nothing but the best for my new dog. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of vets within a walking distance of where I live in Forest Hills. I found Boulevard Animal Clinic by chance and decided to try them out. Like a new pet owner, I had no idea what cost of typical vet procedures. I went through all of their recommended steps/vaccinations and treated my dog like my first child. This ended up costing me a ridiculous amount of money. I have nothing to compare rates to, but they charge for every single step they take in a procedure. Why do I have to pay for your waste disposal? Just give me the poop/bandaid/whatever waste and I'll throw it out!  Are you serious? Judging by previous reviews, I feel like they make most of their profit on new pet owners because they don't know any better. My dog eventually developed allergies several months later after beginning the series of shots they recommend. I don't have anything in my house that could possibly cause allergies, I never let my dog run around in forest bushes or around any strange greenery. My backyard is a normal backyard without anything fancy. And no one in my house has allergies. As soon as they found out that my dog was going through allergies it was "OMG! ALLERGY TEST! ALLERGY SHOTS! FOREVER!TAKE A MORTGAGE OUT NOW!" and $$$$ went up in DeFeis's eyes. They even wanted me to get a special brand of dog food that was 80 dollars a bag. At this point, I was like "OK BRB". And I just left and never looked back. This place is like a really bad relationship. It will constantly want money from you and not give you anything back in return. It's been over a year since I left and my dog is happy and healthier than ever before. Gee, I wonder why. Read Less

0 star no..minus if i had an option.I don't even know where to begin..First of all, please note i had to sign up just to write an review about this place. Hopefully you will view this review before you make a trip to this place ended up killing my bunny. The lady gave antibiotic to my bunny before i left and by the time i got home(less than 10mins by walking) she died...(she was fine, i was just worried i decided to take her to the vet to go see the doctor because i had a feeling she had lost her appetite) i did not even get a chance to open the ziploc bag with all these medications they charged me for. And when i went back the next day to tell them my rabbit passed away, the lady(who treated my bunny very roughly when she was brushing her she pulled her hair out ended up with bareskin on some areas..i had to tell her to stop) anyhow, she came out and asked me why im back. So i sadly and quietly told her my bunny died last night, and she said one work with no emotions."okay.?" I asked her if i can at least return the medicine which hasn't even get a chance to be opened..she said "No." And said "how come you are talking to me like its my fault that your rabbit died?" I did not expect to hear that. She was very protective for herself. So i said i did not come here to complain or to blame anyone i'm here to ask for help if i can return the medicine which hasn't been used and they are unopened. But she said "sorry but no. Also, its your fault for not taking care of your own pet thats why you came to us, and since your rabbit died, you want your money back? How do i know what you would have done to your pet?"  Soon as she said this to me in front other people, Oh my god... I lost my word and my mind...i left this place with tears and unopened medicine...and prayers to other pet owner wont make same mistake as i did for not researching further about this place before the visit...PLEASE do not go here. It is unfortunate my pumpkin died...but hoping this review will at least help to save at least one precious life...trust me. If you really need to goto this place(since this place open late) please avoid seeing this lady(who smells like cigarette. You will be able to easily tell soon as she opens her mouth) she's evil and she has no love for animals...besides her everyone else seems nice..at least they didn't say anything evil to me by not paying an attention when i was there..they were just acting like this is something that they deal with everyday..this place is very sketchy...really strange... I came here, because I was worried about my dog and our regular vet was closed for the day. I was quoted a price over the phone for an exam and calculated a few extra charges for meds or whatever else, just in case. However, I was blown away by the bill and when I asked to see a printout of the charges, I see I was literally charged for everything.I didn't think anything was seriously wrong with my dog, but for peace of mind and for my dogs health I wanted to bring her in. The dr immediately thought she knew what was wrong and performed 3 different tests for the same thing - they all showed that what she suspected wasn't the problem. I was then given antibiotics and still not given a diagnosis. At the end of the day, I am 100% for my dogs health and in the vet system it all boils down to money. If your animal is sick and it costs 5 figures and you can't pay that 5 figures right away then your animal does not get care.  Of course I am exaggerating on costs, but I am speaking in general and bills can get that high. My point is, it's all about money and that seems to be first priority in all vet clinics which is very disheartening. I was coming here on a whim and was told that if I didn't have a copy of my dogs rabies vaccine on hand that they would have to administer the rabies vaccine and charge me for it. I wondered if I had come in with a dying dog, would that have been a concern before treating him? I hope not. No other place had told me that before. Btw, my dog had recently received that the rabies vaccine. My reason for 3 stars is that the vet was VERY nice. As a matter of fact, she was the nicest vet that we have encountered. She put myself and my dog at ease and she answered all my questions. That's why I paid my bill without any questions asked, but in retrospect I don't feel we should've been charged for every little test especially when no hard equipment were used AND that the tests showed that the dr's suspicion was wrong. I will come back here again if I need to, I will just inquire about prices for everything the doctor does (even if she pulls out a strip of paper - seriously) and speak up if I don't feel it's necessary. Oops, I def didn't mean to add my dog's pic to their profile. LolOh well, maybe someone can tell me how to remove them. Anyway, always trying to sell something, very pushy about it too. Also, this is my fault but still. This is my first dog and was my first vet. So I didn't know any better and thought I can blindly trust. I said I wanted to do all his shots that day because I had money and they did it. Later I found out that so many shots shouldn't be given together. Also push every possible shot and try to scare you off into agreeing. Also did his rabies shot at 3 months. My dog developed allergies after all these shots, I'm almost sure it's due to vaccinosis. When I came to treat allergies they first told me he's allergic to cleaners, so I bombed him with antibiotics and stopped using cleaners. Allergies came right back after we stopped the pills. Then they told me he's most likely allergic to chicken or beef and said to get him on special dog food. And again antibiotics. And as a long term solution, get him allergy tested, find out what he's allergic to and develop an allergy shot 'especially for him' that he will get every month or so for the rest of his life. 2 problems with this. First, it's very possible he became allergic to beef and chicken after getting all these vaccines because they're based on beef and chicken extract (or however it's called). So it's very possible they did this to begin with. Second, i'd think that before offering to put him on allergy shots for the rest of his life she'd first offer to try a better food (he was on purina at that time). She actually told me purina is very good dog food!! This is what made me stop going there. I couldn't believe anything they say if that's how they felt. I knew purina was garbage but I didn't realize the extent of the damage I'm doing with bad food and thought I couldn't afford anything else. I asked whether I should try raw or home cooked diet and she said purina is the best I can do and that they also sold all kinds of specialized purina foods and vitamins (that I was also pushed to buy). Anyway, my doggie is on raw and doing well. I know that not everyone is willing to feed raw or even cooked and that's fine. I'm only mentioning all this to show that they don't want healthy dogs. They would've done well if for the rest of his life my dog (who was 7 months then) got allergy shots every month and inevitably developed more issues from them bombarding him with more chemicals. And one last note. I wanted to come in and weigh him, just weigh him, didn't need anything else. My friends with dogs said they go to their vets for that, that you can just walk in and weigh them for free. I called them to see if I can come in and they rudely told me they're busy. I asked when I can come in and they said I need an appointment. I said I just wanted to weigh him and that i'd pay. How much to use the scale? Nope, they wouldn't let me. Come in, pay for office visit and get your weight. Read Less

So my 14 year old cat hasn't been her perky self for the past few days - loss of appetite, lethargic, walks around like an old woman. So I decided to take her to see a Vet at Boulevard Animal Clinic, which is closer to home than the ASPCA.The place looked clean and staff was friendly. I filled out a form - just like a regular doctor's office. Then I entered an examination room.My cat is not a fan of strangers - especially doctors. A nurse had to hold her down. She hissed and growled and tried to bite. After the exam, the vet asked the assistant to prepare an "estimate". For 24 hour stay, X-ray, blood work, I-V, etc... $1800!! And they wanted to keep her for 3 nights!!!!I've heard about animal clinics trying to take advantage of pet owners' emotions and "rape" their wallets, and I wasn't gonna fall for that. As much as I love my cat and I want her to be well, there's no way I can afford it. They offered a pet credit card - and that's the last thing I need. So for the visit, vaccination, blood test and medication = $300. A note to myself and other pet owners: look into pet medical insurance, and don't let anyone play your emotions to swindle money from you. Avoid this clinic!!PS- After the traumatic visit, my cat did eat a little when I brought her back home. Hopefully I won't need to use the medicine anytime soon. At this stage in her life, I plan to make her quality of life as comfortable and peaceful as possible. Read Less

Let me start off by saying yes, this place is overpriced. That being said, I'm okay with that given that it's close to my home and they have late hours. I'm willing to pay for the convenience aspect.I usually only go here when I go on vacation and need to put my cats up for boarding. One of my cats had diabetes and I wanted there to be a vet on call 24/7 to monitor her. I'd call in for daily updates and everyone was always courteous. Keep in mind that the Forest Hills office is just for checkups; any surgery, boarding etc is done at their Valley Stream office. They have a nightly shuttle that picks up the animal[s] between offices. If you don't use them for primary care, you have to show that your pet's paperwork is up to date. Common sense. A few weeks ago my older cat [15 years old] had alarming symptoms. I called and they didn't have any open appointments left. I must of have sounded frantic because they urged me to come in anyway. Fast forward through x-rays, dental work, biopsy... my cat had cancer. Throughout all of this, I would call in daily for status updates and they also answered every single one of my questions... and went through each item on the bill. No surprises. In the end, after pet hospice care; I had to put her to sleep.  Honestly, I had to write this review because I have no idea why there are some many bad ones. Read Less

I had my dog transported out of there ASAP. Run and never come to this place. It looks shoddy because it's a shady organization. The "vet staff" relishes on your guilt which translates to $ for them.

Read Less

Dr. DeFeis is extraordinary.  We serendipitously had our first appt at Blvd Animal Clinic (he's not there mostly now but is w/Central Vet Assoc).  He is compassionate, gifted, warm, friendly, and really has a way w/our animals.  Even our fearful tabby calms down around him.  He's extended the lives (humanely) of our animals, and he's also saved us a great deal of money just by being practical and honest w/us.  Hard to come by that in this litigious age, where medical practitioners of all species are cautious to advise. We love Dr. DeFeis.  And what's more -- our animals love him too. That said, we dislike the other vets at Blvd and some of the other clinics in CVA and only go to Dr. D. Read Less

We came here for an emergency visit and they transported our dog to another facility without our consent and did a battery of test without of consent. The bill came out to a ridiculous amount. I had my dog transported out of there ASAP. Run and never come to this place. It looks shoddy because it's a shady organization. The "vet staff" relishes on your guilt which translates to $ for them. Do NOT come here. There should be a negative star category for sketchy places like this! Read Less

Dr. Defeis is a caring and compassionate person and a great vet. I would not take my dog to anyone but him. Expensive but worth it.
