A few years ago I brought my 5 year old dog in as he was having some back pain. he was prescribed NSAIDS which caused him to have some bleeding in his stool. Brought him back they ordered the sonogram to be performed on him. $$$$$. They found a mass on his spleen and diagnosed it as being cancer and pressured me to have surgery done the next day. $$$$$$When discussing this with a nurse friend she became concerned and talked to her veterinarian who told her she should know better that the spleen has nothing to do with the digestive track and even if it was cancer in the spleen it would NOT cause him to bleed, and most likely the NSAIDs cause the bleeding.Long story short we took him to his new vet and he lived for another seven years cancer free. They were willing to do an unnecessary surgery on him without even confirming any cancer cells in his blood.  Shame on them! The vets there love to cut so please get yourself a second opinion before you let them do unnecessary surgery on your beloved animal. These vets are wonderful caring people. They are very gentle with my cats and give me information and suggestions for care and treatment which I truly trust. They have cared for my 9 cats over the years. When my cat had kidney failure, they taught me to give her an IV. This prevented my cat from becoming stressed and saved me money because I didn't have to bring her in for IV hydration several times per week. The vets are kind, they are conservative in recommending treatment and it's a no judgment zone. They allow me to make my decisions without attempting to push me in a direction. Their staff is also wonderful and care about the pets. Read Less

I gave Franklin Square Veterinary Associates one star because he was kind enough to tell me to come right over after hearing the symptoms my cat was experiencing.  When I arrived at his office I was taken into his office with little wait time which was a blessing. My cat had been violently abused by a new groomer a few days before, her intestine had been crushed, so needless to say she was very traumatized and extremely fearful.  The Veterinarian's Assistant tried to pick up my cat from the examination table with was approximately four feet from the grown and to weigh her my cat resisted and the assistant continued to try to pick her up. My cat jumped up from a laying position to bit the assistant, which she was successful in doing so. The assistant moved away from the table as my cat was still in the air and crashed down approximately four feet from the table crushing her head on the floor.  The Veterinarian witnessed the entire episode he cornered my cat with is carrier and gently kicked him into his carrying case.  The Veterinarian then told me he was SORRY BUT I WOULD HAVE TO GO SEE SOMEONE ELSE AS HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CARE FOR HER.  I BELEIVE A MAN WHO TAKES AN OATH TO HELP AND PROTECT ANIMALS SHOULD NOT TURN THEM AWAY.  Clearly my cat was suffering and traumatized and needed assistance.  I took my cat home to calm her down and for the next five days she suffered with several seizures from falling on her head.   She never recovered and passed away eighteen days later.  I do not blame the death of my beloved angel on the Vet at Franklin Square Veterinary, that blame is mostly on the Groomer, however, when I needed help he turned me way and as a result my beloved angel suffered with the original problem of her intestine as well as numerous seizures from the fall on her head off their table, and the lack of concern for my beloved angel.   I wanted to tell my story so no one else has to go through what I've gone through in these past two months. 1 star, only because it's a fairly nice "looking" place...However, they pressured me to pay $1,000 bucks (in ADVANCE) to hook my very old & sick cat up to an IV just to find her dead the next morning. In retrospect, I'm confident that they KNEW she was a goner, but figured they'd milk me for whatever they can get knowing people generally want to do what they can for a pet in distraught times, especially one that's been with you for almost 2 decades!!!I don't believe they kept an eye on her overnight! Figured for that kind of $ they'd have people monitoring things and checking on the pets. Apparently NOT! So a word to the wise, bring your sick animal to a 24 hour hospital! Not these crooks! Good thing she didn't hang on for another day "in their care" because it would have been DOUBLE! (2 GRAND!). Guess I sort of got off lucky! Also, they had the nerve to charge an exorbitant amount of $ for a "Communal" burial, which just means incinerated with a bunch of other dead animals if they even bother to do that! Who knows?!? When I brought this up to the owner, she fought with me saying how it's exactly what they're charged to dispose of the animal and it exactly what they're charged; they make no profit. That's total BS because I had another cat that had to be put down (the other place I went to didn't pressure me in to any ridiculous costly heroic procedures) and the proper "Communal" burial charges were considerably less expensive! So people, please do yourself a favor & shop around unless you have $ to burn & you don't mind less than stellar care when your pet is staying with them with their life on the line! They aren't the only place around! Read Less

I've had 15 pets in forty years and I think that this practice is the most wonderful one I have ever encountered. The kindness and gentle touch each animal has received have made visiting the vet a non-harrowing experience, I have had to put down a few elderly or terminally ill cats, and it was done with dignity and kindness. So my animals have been regulars here almost since they began their practice.       I was first referred here by Port Washington Animal Rescue, and I have neverbeen happier with my veterinary choice.
