Brought my dog in here to get his booster shots. The Irish vet tech who was holding the dog was very patient with him. The only thing that kinda bothered me, was that the vet was trying to sell me on several different things: pet insurance, blood tests, and then shots that the state requires a person to do once every two years. The vet wanted to do them every 6 months. Didn't really give a reason, just said, "that's what they do." I worked for vets for years, know they need to make money, but seriously. Had to get the shots done there, I'm not going to go home and shoot the dog up myself. But, as far as the medication that he wouldn't dispense without a blood test... went home and ordered it online. Man do I love the internet. :-) Read Less

I'll give them 2 stars, because they did take adequate care of my cats for the years I brought them here before I learned better. They charge CRAZY prices and can't justify them. I called them to ask about the cost of an operation and when I asked for a breakdown, the receptionist got snippy and said that was just how it was. I loved Dr. Liss (I believe that's the right spelling) but she stopped working there for a bit and it all went downhill. They didn't notice my cat's lymphoma until it was way too late. One doctor at their hospital still recommended surgery even though it had spread everywhere, which would have made the surgery very costly and probably completely useless. The older vet would also lecture my family endlessly on not getting our cats dental cleanings once a year. The procedure costs many hundreds, if not thousands, because the cats have to be put under, and neither of my cats had any serious dental issues. He would suggest we were neglectful owners, when I have a very hard time believing most owners get their cats dental treatments every year..Go to Great Neck Animal Hospital. Their doctors are amazing and their prices are much more reasonable. When my other cat got sick, they let me know my options and let me weigh the costs without making me feel guilty at all. They were there for advice and for guidance and when we had to sadly put my cat down, they sent us a beautiful card later to express their condolences . Please do yourself a favor and go to Great Neck Animal Hospital instead. Read Less

Money hungry receptionist refused to allow the vet to treat my dog for her ear infection because I wouldn't pay for vaccines which my dog already had that year from a previous vet. Was seeking help for my dogs painful ear infection. I couldn't afford to pay for their unsafe and ridiculous request so they refused to see me. Grade a a-holes!! Money hungry. If they really cared for animals my little chihuahua would have been seen. Rude rude staff. Check out Sr Patrick Kim at little neck animal clinic on northern blvd by stop n shop...much cheaper 50 for a check up with someone who has a soul...plus he wasn't looking to screw me out of money like these people. I used these vets for several years before realizing I was being taken advantage of.  Don't get me wrong, the staff is friendly, and the vets seem to care about the animals that are brought in. It's just that they will nickel and dime you for all you are worth. My female dog was taken in for surgey to remove bladder stones. When I picked her up from the main hospital, the vet insisted we needed a special food for the dog to help prevent future stone formations. The vet also tried to slip in other items, such as vitamins to make the dog's fur coat more shiny and other medications to help the dog's digestive track. No thanks, I don't see how making the dog's coat any more shiny or aiding in the breakdown of food will help prevent bladder stone formation. I also noticed multiple double charges on the bill, which had to be dealt with. Then, my male dog needed his teeth cleaned. Central vets wanted to take the dog for an overnight stay at their main hospital, put the dog on antibiotics, schedule a follow up post op appointment, all to remove some built up plaque.  While I was there, I showed the vet a discolored bump on the dog's paw. The vet looked at it and declared it to possibly be cancer, which would require an overnight stay at the main hospital for a biopsy.  I decided to shop around to see if I could get a better quote and was recommended to try a friend's vet. The new vet looked at my dog's paw and said it was a calais, nothing to be worried about. He also said there was no reason to put the dog thru a hospital stay and antibiotics for the teeth cleaning, stating that if humans don't need it when we get our teeth cleaned, there is no reason to put a dog thru it.Be warned if you patronize this business. Question the necessity of recommended procedures, double check your bill, and get a second opinion if you don't feel comfortable with what tey are telling you. Read Less

I have been to Central Veterinary Associates in Bayside. Sure! They seem very professional, friendly, caring, and have high technolgies. They will answer all your questions, clean your dog's ears,  teach you how to clean their ears, and cut their nails. However, they are very expensive. They will ask you to do extra shots that's really not necessary, and they will ask you to purchase new items from them that's over priced whenever you visit them. I asked for medical records and they had to updated it 5x to get it right. They were very friendly when I pointed out their mistakes 5x. If you have load of money to spend on your pet, then this is the place for you. Read Less

We had the displeasure of going to this Clinic when we first moved into the area.  We had taken our 2 cats and dog for their annual check-ups and shots.  All-in-all it was a pleasant visit, but the vet kept trying to push all these vaccinations on our cats and dog.  I did some background work and knew exactly what they needed and what was optional, but the vet wouldn't explain why they needed the "extra" shots and whether or not they were critical to their health and welfare.  Anyways, I was shocked at how expensive the visit was...almost $700 for all 3!!!  This was the most I've ever paid (coming from NY).Throughout the past year I switched vets and went to the North Shore Animal League clinic.  Service there was excellent and the price was WAY more reasonable.  Also, they gave me a straight answer when I asked about yearly vaccine recommendations and health questions.Recently, on of our cats, Max, developed blood in his urine.  Naturally we were very concerned, and had to go to Central Vet. because North Shore didn't have an opening for a week.  My wife took Max to the clinic, and after doing the standard work-up for a Urinary Tract Infection (complete blood work, urine analysis and culture) plus his rabies vaccine, they insisted that Max be placed under overnight observation and X-rays be taken.  As a physician, I didn't agree to this and we took Max back home with us.  As I went home and did some research online, the steps were clearly laid out:1. Most causes of blood in the urine are from UTI's and/or stones2. Blood tests are done to rule out malignancies.3. X-rays may aid in the diagnosis of stones, but are not definitive.4. Most cases of UTIs are treated with antibiotics (which Max was given), and stones may be treated with a change in diet.So I felt comfortable in our decision to keep Max on antibiotics, change his diet, observe him closely for signs of blockage, and take him back to the Vet in a couple of weeks. However, the Vet called and spoke to me regarding the urine analysis.  He said there was blood (obviously), and casts (which means there is some kind of irritation on the bladder wall) and he tried to get me to take Max in for admission, X-rays AND A CONTRAST STUDY OF THE BLADDER!!  That would cost over $1,000!!! I told him no.  He then had the audacity to call my wife and try to convince her!  What gross mismanagement!!  I truly believe this clinic's sole purpose is to prey on pet owners' fear and try to get them to spend as much money as they can on unnecessary tests and procedures.  They don't provide any other services as opposed to the friendly North Shore Animal League clinic.I WILL NEVER GO TO THESE PEOPLE AGAIN.  STAY AWAY!!
