I called looking for availability and cost of vaccine services. The receptionist wasn't particularly friendly. Ok, maybe she's having a bad day. She was quick to shut me down saying if I wasn't a patient already that they aren't accepting new patients! Ok. So I asked if I could be put on a list? She told me that no, there was no list. Best to call back in 6 months. When probed on costs of distemper vaccine combo shots she was evasive again saying they aren't taking new patients but when I persisted she said they charge for an office visit and for the shot. So this seems standard practice in the vet world and she stated they needed to do a physical exam to any animal before doing shots. Price stated was about the same as my current vet so no real discount noted there which was the reason for calling wondering if I could get equivalent care at a more affordable price. On a positive, when asked about heartworm prevention she did say that due to our climate that they recommend only 6 months of the year. So that is an intelligent response and accurate imho. In contrast, my current vet and others questioned are 300% about monthly heartworm prevention and even in the cold months when there are no mosquitoes. When I questioned other vets they spoke of variable temperatures and even presence of ticks to try to convince me of the need for year round prevention! Like? Ticks don't cause heartworm... obfuscation and misrepresentation to convince to poison your pet and spend $$$$ and fear monger it. Anyways, at least this vendor didn't do that +++++.
Btw... It's my opinion, after hours of reading, that poisoning my dog monthly to prevent heartworm isn't necessary in my Buffalo area climate and not something that's doing my dog (toxins)or myself (cost$) any favors. My current vet believes in monthly tablets obtained from her, so this waves a red flag that she's looking for $$ to fund her clinic vs actually being interested in the health of my puppy. :( And she refused the script we requested to buy my heartworm meds online to save $ so I'm not sure where that leaves me, but is this setting me up for monthly visits to get my heartworm med? It was all unclear. But at the second distemper combo shot I was sold one heartworm Interceptor pill. So it looks like I'm getting sucked in at my current but one has to ask... why does the vet want to expose my puppy to unnecessary toxins 12 months of the year when in my climate it's not necessary? Their professed reason for "being" is care and good health of clients animals but then they poison your pet monthly for the best I can figure --- no good reason seeing as it would be virtually impossible for my puppy to get mosquitoed in January for instance. Kind of counterintuitive and I'm feeling mislead and kind of aggravated too since following the advice I poisoned my dog unnecessarily. They actually did me a favor by refusing the heartworm script cause that lead me to research facts, details, options, necessity and I actually came away not wanting to go to my current vet anymore kind of incensed that I'd been mislead.... At least these people aren't pulling that "routine" which I DO appreciate. But, there's no availability. The receptionist is terse. There's an edge to her voice and demeanor. And she expects me to just keep calling to at some point maybe be accepted as a new patient... instead of simply having a list. Why not just have a list? So she's fielding unnecessary repeat calls all day long no wonder she's edgy!!!! LOL. Fielding calls all day from prospective trying to get into the practice?? Maybe so. I surely don't know but I'd be making a list and telling people that I'd call them when and if there's availability! Smarter not harder but I've digressed...... Hope this helps someone. :) Read Less

I went to the Hamburg village emergency care once and would never go there go there again. They said my dog needed surgery soon for a tumor. I was going to Dr. Tillou's vet office for a couple of years with my cats. The last time I went I saw the son, Dr Tillou Jr. for the first time. He had no compassion for my cat at all. He handled my cat very roughly by grabbing him by the scruff and flipping him on his side very roughly. My cat was not being aggressive whatsoever, just was scared to come out of his carrier. The vet would not give me a straight answer on how many calories my overweight cat should be eating when I asked him. I tried to share my many concerns over my cat's weight and skin problems of dandruff when he demanded to see my hands to prove that mine were dry at this time of year too. I told him that I have eczema and psoriasis and worked in a field where I am constantly washing my hands so my hands would not be a good example. Before I could also tell him that it was a year long problem with my cat's skin, he threw me, my daughter and my cat out of his office and still charged us for the visit even though we never completed it. The visit before that, my cat was diagnosed with tape worms and treated. When I inquired if my other cat should also be treated I was told no. Now two years later it is showing that my other cat does indeed have worms also (They have not had fleas and they do not go outside and I treat them with Advantage so I am assuming he has had them all along.) This would explain his decrease in activity and appetite and his weight loss. I would not go to this vet again if you paid me and if my cat is sick due to a long term worm infection, I am seeking legal action. Don't even want to give this joke of a vet one star but have no choice. Avoid this vet at all costs if you value your animals health. Read Less

The older Dr. Tillou is a nice man, very good as a vet. His son however is absolutely awful. I took our 18 year old dog in for advice and the younger Tillou had no bedside manner. He told me she had to be put to sleep. Given that I am disabled and on social security, I asked for the payments to be split between two ss checks. He said no; payment before procedure. So, wrote a check and it bounced. Now, I have been going to the elder Tillou for a couple of years without a history of nonpayment or bounced checks. I called and brought in half the payment. I was told that they would not release our dog's ashes until payment was made in full. We spent our first Thanksgiving in 18 years without her. A couple of days after I made the payment, the younger doctor called our home just to harass us. He told us we didn't deserve to have a dog or have her cremated. He said if we didn't show up the day I got my social security he'd dump her ashes. My wife was hysterical. He was heartless and cruel. A friend loaned us the rest of the money and I went in and asked for all our dogs records and her ashes. They were in a tin box. He stood there and stared at me and then turned and walked out of the area. And just to reinforce the heartlessness, we never received any kind of sympathy card from the practice. The prices here are cheaper than some vets however keep in mind, you get what you pay for. It's a father and son operation. The father is fine. Knowledgable and easy to deal with. The son has an extreme condescending attitude that is prevalent in every office visit. I also believe he acts this way because he doesn't possess the knowledge that he purports.I have a few speciality breed cats as pets. Among them are a Munchkin and a Manx. Body shapes are completely different and the Manx is missing a tail. They are a year apart in age but both small in stature. I once took them in together for shots and Brett (son Β vet) asked if they were litter mates??? I recently took my Munchkin back because he had an ingrown claw. Brett listed him as a domestic shorthair. The breed mix up doesn't offend me however as a vet I believe you should be aware of the cat (s) you are working with. The reason for my concern is that a specialty breed - to my understanding working with info Β from a friend who was a vet for years however recently passed away - cannot be transfused by a common cat should blood be needed. I don't know if this is the case but I believe that a vet, as a doctor, should read previous medical records to ascertain basic info.I called 2 days ago to set up an appointment for my Corgi who is shaking her head and scratching at her ears. Β Ear infection is what I suspect. Receptionist asked if I attempted to check and clean her ears because they request that you do this before setting up an appointment. While I do clean my cat ears I have never had any reason to check the dogs and I wouldn't know what I am looking at or what to do that is safe and beneficial for the dog. My pup see's Dr Tillou the son, and reading all these review's about how he is not a compassionate doctor baffles me. He is compassionate he just doesn't sugar coat anything, and I am thankful for that. He never does any unnecessary tests and doesn't charge you an arm and a leg. He is always gentle with my chocolate lab and I would never think of going to any other vet. I am thankful I found Dr Tillou and will continue to recommend him to my friends and family to take their furry kids. Read Less

I brought my dog here upon the recommendation of a family member after moving and switching from a downtown vet. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I had a 7:20 pm appointment and was greeted by Dr. Tillou right on time. I thought it was great that the Doctor was the one who came out to get us in the waiting room, brought us to the "patient" room and took care of what needed to be done right away. Dr. Tillou was very nice and happy to answer any questions I had while not being pushy about extra services as my experience had been with previous vets. He was great with my dog and the prices are VERY reasonable. I highly recommend Tillou Veterinary. Read Less

Have gone to Guy for years. He was always a caring, and pleasant vet. His prices were reasonable and affordable. I left here 17yrs ago and when I came back here I wanted no other vet. I've always trusted him with my pets. I often wished he was in FL. I had one visit with his son. He is a little gruff and does not have his father's disposition, but I did not find him abusive as so many people stated. I'm sure his father would not allow this behavior. I went to the Hamburg village emergency care once and would never go there go there again. They said my dog needed surgery soon for a tumor. When I consulted with Guy I found out there was no surgery needed and no tumor. I spent a lot of my money at the emergency center which I didn't have and I got false information.

It was a horrible, horrible experience. Read Less
