In memory of my sweet dog Macy, I must share my experience here.
Macy (a 6 year old rat terrier)went in for a mild nose infection and was prescribed Doxycycline. She was also given a blood test.
Within a few days Macy wasn't looking good and I called the office to find out if it was safe to continue her medication. They told me it was an antibiotic and that I was supposed to continue the medication to the end. I also inquired about her bloodwork which I was put on hold for and disconnected. The next two days Macy was lethargic and threw up. The following morning I rushed her back in with liver failure. They told me she was poisoned (either by candy, rat poison, mushrooms, hateful
neighbors etc) and that her prognosis was bad and they could not guarantee they could save her but offered to open me a line of credit to try or euthanize her to stop her suffering. I opted to let her go ...to avoid her suffering further.
I struggled sleepless nights searching for answers to her death. I then found online many other dog owners whos dogs became violently ill and also death while on the medication Doxycycoline. THEY NEVER mentioned possible side effects to me regarding this medication and led me to believe it was helping her. They also had blood test results which were not normal, yet never reached me about them. I am not feeling like this was intentional per say, but when I called to indicate the dog was not doing well they should have instructed me to discontinue the usage and bring her in immediately which could have saved her life, as well as contact me regarding her bloodwork which I also feel could have indicated this antibiotic was not safe for her.
Macy is gone and I will not get this sweet pup back. I will never trust a veterinarian ever again nor dose my animals with medication without thoroughly investigating the possible side effects associated . They have lost my trust and I will never return to this “hospital” again. BEWARE. Read Less

I highly recommend taking your pets to another vet. I have two chihuahuas. When the older one was about six months old,I brought the dog to HAH for an examination. The vet(Dr. Pete) informed me that he had legg perthes disease and the condition needed to be corrected via surgery. A couple of days later due to the vets admitted mistake, my dog had to go thru a second surgery which left his leg partially paralyzed.
Years later we brought the dog back for dental surgery. Some teeth were removed, others cleaned. After a few days I noticed the dogs neck was out of alignment. I decided to give it some time to see if the situation would correct itself. Weeks went by and there was no change in his condition.
Recently we made plans to take a trip; part of those plans were to have the dogs boarded at HAH. Requirement for boarding at their facility: a complete examination and up-to-date shots for the animals. While we were waiting in the examination room , a tech came in and informed us that since the hospital had been taken over by a BIG CORPORATION, new requirements have been implemented: the dogs must have additional shots (higher prices of course!) in order to allow us to border them. That being said, we decided to have some of the shots done on that day, and the remainder prior to boarding($263.00).
The vet eventually appeared and proceeded to examine each dog. When she began examination of the older one, I asked her why his neck was crooked. Her answer,” possibly from the anesthesia, which could be a permanent condition.” At that point I felt “enough is enough!”
We have decided to have a family member care for our pets when we go on our trip. We have also found another vet who is not so impersonal as this NEW CORPORATION.

Do not go here! They have misdiagnosed my dog on several occasions, and it almost cost her life. I. One occasion I brought my dog in because I suspected bloat. I was told she probably just ate something she should not have. Sure enough it was bloat and then I still had to bring her somewhere else to have an operation. She is now approaching 13 and has some skin tags and moles. They wanted to biopsy one, and insisted on general anesthesia. I did not want to put her under, being that she is a senior at this point. That is when they refused to see her anymore. Do your pet, and yourself a favor and stay away. On another note, my pup is now under the care of a local vet in ronkonkoma. Her incontinance issue has gone away within 2 months, and no longer has accidents. Something we worked with hauppauge animal hospital with for over 5 years. Strongly suggest you stay away! If I could give a lower rating I would! This place is not only dirty and has rude front desk staff but also has unprofessional and incompetent doctors. If you love your animal and you consider them apart of your family, do not trust these people with their health and lives! We had a Maltese, her name was Rosie and she was 15 years old. No one would believe she was 15 by the way she'd run around and play. However, due to the incompetence of this animal hospital, Rosie's life was cut short. She could have been saved if we had brought her somewhere else- somewhere where the staff cared more about the animal then closing time.
On November 1st, after seeing her struggle to get up, my sister and I took her to Hauppauge Animal Hospital. We called and made an appointment for 6:15pm. When we arrived, with our little sick dog wrapped up in a blanket, we were told that they didn't have us in the system and that they were closing soon. There was absolutely zero compassion or concern from the front desk. After an unnecessary and aggressive exchange with the staff member, we were put on the schedule at 6:30pm. Unfortunately, the lack of compassion didn't just stop at the front desk. Once in the room the doctor began to examine Rosie. Within a minutes of her examination we were told that she had a heart murmur (which Rosie has never had heart problems in the past), that there was a giant mass on her spleen that was most likely cancerous because it was hard and that the only treatment was surgery in which she might not survive. She than recommended an X-ray to confirm the mass which we of course agreed to. While Rosie was getting the X-ray my sister and I, completely devastated by the news, could hear the doctor talking so casually about these "cancerous tumor" in our dog. Once the mass was visualized on the X-ray I asked the doctor if we could get her blood work to confirm it was in fact cancer, which she repeatedly said it was. I wish I had a tape recorder for when she told me that blood work wouldn't show if it was cancer unless the cancer was in her blood but she€d do it anyway. In my opinion this woman's license should be revoked for that comment alone. After drawing her blood and charging us nearly $400.00 we were dismissed-sent home distraught and without help. The very next day we had to rush Rosie to North Shore Animal Hospital (a recommendation from a friend) where they did everything they could possibly do to save our dog. It turns out that nothing the doctor from Hauppauge Animal Hospital said about Rosie's prognosis was accurate. The so called heart murmur was ammonia (fluid in the lungs) which is treatable and the massive cancerous tumor on her spleen was really a large and yet drainable cyst in her bladder.
These people robbed Rosie of the care she needed that night. They prey on those who'd do anything for their pets for the greed of money. Do NOT go to Hauppauge Animal Hospital! Read Less
