I just went to Island trees veterinary and saw Dr. Carin. I can't say enough nice things about this man. He came highly recommend to me by a friend. I brought my 9 year old rescue mix, his name is Doc for a new visit / check up. He has been very tired and lacking energy however I needed a new vet. I couldn't be happier with the care and advice he provided. He was patient, thorough, and really listened to our concerns about our dog. He was gentle with Doc and really spent time with us. His office staff was very sweet and there was no wait at all. The girls in the office were also so patient with our very anxious boy. Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of veterinary docs - my experience over twenty years as a dog owner hasn't been great. Until I met Dr. Gill Caren and the team at Island Trees. It didn't take long to realize this was a different place -- a professional office that is compassionate and most importantly a doctor that takes his time -- there was never a rush to prescribe or recommend a procedure. Dr. Caren takes his time and is meticulous about identifying what is wrong with my dog with a step by step and conservative approach. Trust in your Vet is always been a big deal to us and Dr. Caren earns it every time. I don't mind driving 20 minutes to this practice - they are exceptional. My dog developed two tumors, one in a very delicate area and we were mentally prepared to say goodbye. Dr. Caren confidently assured us that he can surgically remove them and extend our dog's life. I have been going to Island trees for several years now and they have been nothing but polite and accommodating. Whether I have called up with an emergency or just for a routine visit, I have always gotten an appointment in a timely manner and with no issues.  Unfortunately, my pet is now going through some issues, and Dr. Gottlieb and staff have been nothing but caring and sympathetic. They were very thorough when explaining what was going on and what our options were. Receptionist called us CHEAP ASS for not buying from them. This is probably my first ever review but I really wanted to share my feelings with everyone before they visit this place. So we have been going there for last 8 months and spent almost $1,000 for our 3 kittens. This time when we visited the doctor told us to buy a cat flea collar since our kitten has fleas. (we have already given her flea shampoo and flea drops). So when the vet tech brought the collar (Seresto brand) and I asked him how much is it he said $75, so i checked online and i found that Petco sells the same collar for $55, I told him we dont want it. So he told the receptionist the same thing and then  i heard her saying CHEAP ASS. I was just shocked. I told her that it is for $55 at Petco and she got defensive and said well maybe they are selling a counterfeit product and dont backup their products. I told her that I heard what she said earlier and first she denied saying it and then she said she wasnt talking about us. Another tech vet jumped in and took her side also. By that time my wife and I got really mad and started yelling at them and called for the doctor but they said the doctor is doing surgery. But the doctor came anyways and he just apologized. But I think it is a systemic thing and the doctors and other staff are pushed to sell as much products or services as possible. They dont really care about the animals rather only about money and that receptionist is unprofessional and disrespectful. Read Less

Sadly, we took our cat for...his last vet visit. The Dr and staff were incredibly kind, understanding and respectful. They did everything possible to mitigate the stress of this incredibly painful (for us) ordeal. They even scheduled the visit so that we were the only people and patient in the hospital. Most importantly, they were gentle with our beloved Boo.They gave us privacy and all of the time that we needed to say, "Goodbye." Boo was the last patient of the evening. Owning numerous dog for the last 29 years, I have been to my share of vets, these two Dr are compassionate and show empathy for the owners and the animals.  Can the staff be rough yes but when you are running a busy office and have phone line ringing that is understandable. I first need to say that my family has been a patient of Island Trees for 13 years, and we bring all of our furry family members there.  I felt compelled to write about my most recent visit, as it has been a whirlwind, and without the support of my island Trees family, I do not know how I would have handled it.  My dog was showing signs that he was sick, I brought him to the 24 emergency vet hospital, but did all my follow up with Island Trees.  That follow up included an immediate ultrasound the next day, which was explained thoroughly by Dr. Nicole.  The very next morning, Dr. Caren called me to explain everything and what my options were going forward.  I called the office everyday, sometimes 3 times a day, with questions, and ALL of the receptionists (Tracy, Susan and Chang) were welcoming, overly helpful and never made me feel like I was a bother.  Dr. Caren was very honest with my when it came to the fact that my dog had to have surgery -- The decision was in the best interest of the animal, and not their wallets, like my husband and I felt the 24 hour facility was.  Dr. Caren called me immediately after the surgery, and Dr. Gottlieb called immediately the next morning to let me know how his night went.  My dog was having a problem eating, so they asked me to come in.  Susan, the vet tech who took me to see my baby, was so kind, caring and wonderful to me and my dog.  During the visit, both Dr. Nicole and Dr. Gottlieb came in to speak with me, hear any of my concerns, and answer all of my questions (I had sooo many!!!).  The next day Dr. Caren called because they were going to discharge him.  When I went to pick him up, Dr. Caren met with me first, discussed everything, and answered all of my questions, and I never felt rushed.  The next morning I received a call from Tracy as a follow up to see how his initial night at home was.  Since then, I have received a follow up call every day (If I didn't call first), asking how he is doing.I cannot begin to thank this wonderful team of doctors, techs, and administrative assistants for all they do to make each person feel important and each pet to feel like one of the Island Trees family.  I have recommended this vet to everyone that I know, and I hold true to that without any reservation.  There is not enough stars to reflect the compassion, heart and love that this hospital embodies to all that come into their office. I'm not one to write a review but I needed to let everyone know about my experience  at Island trees animal hospital. My cat had cancer and we knew his days were numbered. He woke up one morning and had a stroke and was completely paralyzed from the waist down. He was screaming in pain. We rushed him to Island trees vet to have him put down and relieve him from his pain. We walk into the office with a cat clearly suffering. We called before we went so they knew we were coming. They have us go in the room and they have this woman come in to talk about the process and to give her condolences while my cat is screaming in pain. I quickly interrupted her and said please can we discuss this after we put him out of his misery and suffering. He is in pain and we are making him suffer even longer. Please go get the doctor! The woman storms out of the room and goes to get the vet tech. The vet tech came in and said we are goin to take him into the back quickly to get an IV line in him and we will bring him right back and start the process. I was at the vet with my mother as well. Tracy, the front deck receptionist walked in and everyone know she is just a bundle of joy. She says okay how will you be paying.... I said to my self this is a joke right ?? I explained to her my cat is suffering and we didn't want to go to the car to get the credit card because we want to spend every last second with our cat while he was still alive. She said well your going to be very emotional after you put him down so we would like to take the payment now. I was pissed! I said what am I not emotional now ??? my cats dying!!! My mom who is a people pleaser stormed out of the room and went to her car to get the credit card and pay the bill meanwhile I am waiting in the room for my mom while my cat is in pain so we can put him down. Finally my mom come back in after paying and we finally put our baby to rest. Shortly after Tracy walks back in with the receipt and puts it down in between my dead cats legs for my mom to sign the receipt. I am disgusted with the lack of empathy Tracy had and the way she handled the situation was completely wrong and disgusting. She's a coldhearted person and she needs to be retrained on how to deal with situations like this because the way it was handled was absolutely wrong. First off who signs the receipt on the table when you're dead cat is laying right there and why was it so necessary to get the payment while my cat was suffering in pain and not after he was at rest. emotions don't come into play there because the whole thing is emotional from beginning to end. She need to be fired and find a new hobby like working the counter at the DMV! Read Less

The only vet myself and family go to. My dog Jack they took care until his last moments in 2013 and now my gf Angela's dog Jenny also was cared for amazingly by staff and Dr. Gottlieb till her last moments. So happy I found this amazing vet. My Maltese,bruno, was really sick and after seeing several vets, we still had no answers. Thank goodness I found Dr. Gottlieb! He really took the time with my dog and was determined to figure out what was wrong. He made personal calls to check on Bruno and always followed up. Thanks to Dr. Gottlieb we got a diagnosis and Bruno is doing much better. Island trees is the best vet that I have found on Long Island. My wife and I took a poor adult stray cat off the street and brought it to this Veterinary business. I was thinking that maybe since we took this cat off the street that this business might be slightly sympathetic and go easy on the bill. Well, after x-rays, shots and a check for fleas etc. we had a bill of over $350. We were fortunate to find out that the cat had a clean bill of health and there were no fleas. I asked, don't you bathe the cat? They said, no not unless the cat has fleas. Fast forward a month later and this feral cat has  been living in our home (since the visit) with our two other house cats. Our cats have been scratching themselves all day and night since our new guest has moved in. My wife finally did a spot check and found fleas on each of our cats. I believe they came from the feral cat that we adopted. Therefore, I will not be going back to Island Trees place of business again. Read Less

I came here a few weeks ago as an emergency appointment because my lab wasn't holding down her food for a few days. They squeezed me in, took xrays and blood work, and prescribed her medication. The front desk, staff, and vet were all so understanding. The doctor called back to explain the blood work and answered all of my questions. Today I came home and found saw chocolate wrappers around my dogs bed. I called with the amount of chocolate she ate. They remembered her weight and calculated for me over the phone if it was highly toxic or not (it wasn't). I would highly recommend them to anyone. I felt I had to give a shout out to Dr. Jay Gottlieb and all the staff at Island Trees for the excellent care they provided to my dog. I brought my dog in late one night for what I thought was an eye infection. It turned out to be a very serious case of glaucoma. Dr. Jay diagnosed it quickly and set me up with a proper treatment plan. He and the staff kept the office open late for us, answered all our questions and didn't try to push expensive tests on us or rush us out the door. I don't like writing negative reviews, but I felt this review is justified. My pet didn't have a life threatening or negatively altering experience or anything like that here, but I am rating this place honestly as far as my one visit. 1) not a fan of customer service AT ALL. I wasn't a huge fan of my first phone conversation, but I let it go and decided to give them a shot anyway. After experiencing the following points, I decided to switch vets. I needed records of all the shots and care my puppy had received during his one and only visit. I called once and was told he received 1st lepto and rabies shot. I compared this to my receipt and to the brochure the vet checked stuff off on, these three things did not match up. I called again and explained the situation and was told a fourth and again, different answer. I decided to go in and request a copy of my pet's medical records for myself.2) vet tech and vet had very poor communication. I was told that the vet was going to give me something to put in my puppy's water .. he left without saying bye and then I asked the vet tech for it and he was like "oh he didn't tell me anything" so I ended up leaving without it 3) was not told of vaccine side effects my poor pup was trembling, in pain, wouldn't eat, and couldn't sleep for several hours. 4) vet tech told me crate should only be used as punishment.. no it shouldn't lol5) I am not a fan of the recommended food brand. I love Island Trees Veterinary Hospital! The staff is extremely warm and caring and treat all the animals as if they were their own pets. I have a senior pet that needs a lot of extra time and care when being examined and the office staff is so kind and compassionate to my dog whenever she comes for a visit. Dr. Jay Gottlieb was recommended to me by a close friend about 5 years ago. Dr. Jay Gottleib has been my Jack Russell Terrier's veterinarian ever since. I personally had some recent dental work done by my own dentist. I experienced post surgical pain and decided that I could not let my Jack Russell Terrier to ever endure what I went through. I decided to be proactive and get a periodontal cleaning for my best little girl. I have to say, the staff at Island Trees is amazing. Whether it is Traci or Susan up front or one of the many great technicians in the back such as Anthony, you will always know that your furry friend will ALWAYS be LOVED in their care. We brought our Boston in last week concerned about an internal infection odor. Belle was diagnosed as having an enlarged uterous and a tumor.. She received surgery and the tumor was determined to be non-cancerous. We couldn't be more pleased with the treatment, and medical care Belle received. This hospital has some of the WORST customer service I've ever seen. The front staff makes you feel as if you're inconveniencing them for calling and asking a question. They are very short and rude. Cut you off every chance they get, and treat you as if you're not worth the breath it takes to speak to you.I took my dog there when he first moved to the area. Dr. Caron was great, and gave excellent care to my dog. I was so happy to find a doctor so close to my home who took good care of my fur baby. Then I brought him back for boarding. They wouldn't let me in the back to see the cages for "insurance" reasons. I'm sorry, but every vet I've been to has allowed me in the back at one time or another. Makes me question what they're hiding. Then, they said in the beginning someone was there 24 hours a day. Come to find out, they're not. And they wouldn't tell me how often someone was there, and how long he would be walked and let out, if at all. I should've run then, but my hands were tied as it was the morning I was going out of town. During the 3 days he was there, I called once a day to check on him. I got a quick "he's fine" and nothing else.  My dog came back with a huge scrape on his nose, but no one bothered to let me know how it got there or when. My experience with Island Tree Veterinary Hospital has been wonderful. The Dr. Gottlieb, Dr. Caren and their staff are knowledgeable and caring professionals. A few years back we rescued a kitten with an amputated foot. He was having a problem with it because the amputation was done wrong. We took him to our regular vet and he recommended we amputate the rest of the leg to fix it. Our regular vet at the time did not do that kind of surgery so he recommended Island Tree. We brought him in and he was seen by Dr. Caren. He also recommended the leg be fully amputated to help. We agreed to the surgery. Our kitten is now a beautiful, healthy, full grown cat that jumps, runs and loved to play with his three dog siblings. Going to Island Tree save our kitten and we will always be thankful for the care and attention they gave to us. Dr. Gottlieb has also been wonderful in helping up with a situation we had with our dogs. We have three dogs and occasionally they would fight. A few times we had to bring them to our vet to get some staples put in for injuries. We were not happy with the way our old vet was handling our case. He never offered advice on how to stop the fighting and did not seem to care to help. I then remembered how happy I was with the care we received at Island Tree when we brought in our cat, so we decided to bring in our dogs. Again we were very happy with the care we received and the full attention to the situation we were given. Dr. Gottlieb took the time to talk to us and discussed things that could help stop the fighting. Yet again going to Island Tree was the best thing to do. My dogs are now doing great. I was recommended by a friend to try Island Trees years ago and have been brining my dogs here ever since. I have a rare breed and was concerned about her care and I was not disappointed what so every, Dr. Crain is a great vet and is very caring and you car see his compassion for animals. Told us that since she is a rare breed that he would like to take his time with her shots over a period of time and administer the shots over several weeks. We took his advise and didn't charge us for any of the follow up visits just the shots. I had her neutered several months later and he did a great job and I am very happy with the service I have received. Read Less

After days of testing, my poor little cat (who was brought in simply due to unexplained weight loss) was unable to breathe and in terrible shape. Island Trees recommendation was more tests. No treatment for the acute issue. When we brought her to another vet for emergency treatment, Island Trees wouldn't send her X-Rays to the other vet. They claimed they didn't have an email account and were unable to do so. She died within a few hours of that denied request. I'd like to think that places like this care more about what they do than the money they make. That's clearly not the case here. If you doubt me, try calling and dealing with the receptionists. You'll see I'm right. Hopefully you don't have to deal with Tracy when you are in an emotionally vulnerable place. Read Less

Absolutely nothing but the best care. The staff here have always been wonderful to our two pups from day one. I love that this is a family run place. We have been seen by all three doctors and they are all just wonderful. We recently had an emergency with our little guy Walter early in the morning. We walked in at 8am, as I was afraid to take him to an emergency vet. I felt much better having someone who knows us already and who we trust to take a look at him. Dr. Brad Gottlieb was not supposed to be in until 10. We panicked, not wanting our little guy to suffer in pain for two more hours. The staff called the dr and he came in to the office right away to see him. He explained everything he was doing and what he was checking in great detail, making sure we didn't panic if we heard him yelping in pain again. He then explained in detail what exactly the problem was and what we need to do about it. They could have charged us a lot more than they did (we were actually expecting it), and did a lot more testing, but he said he was only going to do what he felt necessary at the time. Here, the staff actually cares about your pets. They want whats best for them. They treat them as if they were there own. We have moved from the area, and still travel the 40 minutes here because we love this place so much! If you want the best care for your furry family members, take them here! Read Less

Dr. Gottlieb & Dr. Caren are the best vets you could ever hope to find for your animal babies. I started going to them about 20 or so years ago. My daughter Karli has been going there at least 15 with her own animals. Having to leave them when moving to NC really broke my heart, they are both irreplaceable, as Drs & people! Hopefully one day soon my babies will get to know them!! I always tell people that I had the best vets when living on LI, I trust them with my pets like I would trust them with my children!!
