I have taken my dogs there for well over 20 years.  And cats for more than 25. In fact I had a cat that lived to 21.5 years and I am sure it was in part to the team at MIAH. They are not only professional knowledgeable and caring toward the animal. It also extends to the owner as well and they have helped us through some very difficult illnesses. They literally treat the animal with the respect of a family member, a requirement for me. They are always kind. And as a parent to some very loved furry babies that all adds up to success. I can't say enough. As long as I am blessed enough to have furry family members, they will be patients there. Read Less

This place should be ashamed of themselves and quite frankly I believe they should be shut down. I have brought my dog there for the past for THIRTEEN years and little did I know how ripped off we were getting this entire time as well as the MISTREATMENT my dog was put through. Dr Kornet (owner of mid island) should have his vet license ripped from him- mistreating animals and teaching his vet assistants to do the exact same. He is SO arrogant. He does NOT care for animals.Unfortunately for all of us, There is NO accountability when you are veterinary. Let's start with the first horror story- My dog recently tore both ACLs - One right after the other. When we brought our dog in, he was slammed onto the table and pinned down, and at the request of Dr Kornet, the veterinarian assistant held our dogs neck against the table with their forearm like he was some sort of wild rabid animal. Mind you, Our dog has NEVER shown aggression or is neurotic by any means & doesn't even jump up onto guests when they enter our home - overall a VERY sweet animal. Dr Kornet DUG his fingers into my animals legs with such force resulting in LOUD blood curdling screams that Dr Kornet wasn't phased by. (We are pretty sure our dog came in with a partial tear with one leg and left with a full tear due to the mishandling and FORCE endured on him)....And of course we left with a very HEFTY bill. He then referred us to a specialist named Dr. Carb in Farmingdale. Absolute rip off as well. After another hefty consultation bill and an estimate of about 11K- and being told our dog would need 24 hour inpatient care for 2 full days, we decided not to go with this doctor. Absolute nonsense. No dog should need to spend the night after ACL surgery. Once we found our new vet , we quickly learned that is completely unnecessary and your dog can come the DAY OF surgery.Another horror story from mid-island - Our dog had to get teeth extracted. When the doctor called us when the surgery was over, she mentioned her shoulder was SORE because of the force she had to take out my dogs teeth. How could you do that to a 30 pound animal? Why not drill the teeth out like every other animal dental hygienist would do? Instead, used force. Our dog couldn't eat or function for 5 days after the surgery. Mid island charged us $1700 for 7 teeth. Our new vet took out 11 of our dogs teeth and charged $240 INCLUDING a cleaning, and ate dinner the night he got home. Every time you visit midisland they bring your dog into "the back" and do whatever they do to them back there. If they're mistreating your animal infront of your face, i don't even want to think about what goes on behind closed doors back there. The receptionists are rude. They have 0 time for you, don't look customers in the eyes, have extreme attitudes, are very dismissive... are overall nasty.  The woman veterinarians there are kind and caring. They should change the animal hospital they work for. It wasn't until the horrible ACL story that we decided to change vets - & we quickly realized what a RIP OFF mid island is. Gauging medications, ordering weekly blood tests that are unnecessary for drugs such as Rimadyl. The sky high bills for each visit - not normal. Other vets are not charging even CLOSE to the amount that mid island charges. MOST IMPORTANTLY, Our new vet is EXTREMELY empathetic, loving and caring toward our animal. If our dog wants to walk around the exam room, that's completely fine with them. They will literally get on the floor with the animal to examen them. They do EVERYTHING right in front of us. There is no "bring the dog to the back" nonsense that mid island does - they even took out the stitches from the ACL surgery right in front of us. Staff handles WITH CARE unlike mid island. We are completely mind blown with the "care" we got from mid island after visiting our new vet. If you go to this place - change IMMEDIATELY. Your animal is NOT being treated with the utmost care that they deserve. YOU are getting ripped off and putting your animal in a dangerous environment. If i could go back 13 years and never step foot in this place i would. Dr Kornet, if you choose to respond, please don't start your response with "I'm sorry". Read Less

Love, LOVE Mid Island Hospital and its CARING, COMPASSIONATE doctors. We've been going here since 2006 with all our furbabies (two golden retrievers and 5 cats). In January 2018 my 11 year old golden was diagnosed by Dr. Mary Raciti with stage 5 lymphoma. Devastated with the news of another cancer diagnosis (our precious female golden died of osteosarcoma in 2015) she called the oncologist at VMCLI to get us in immediately to start treatment. Thankfully he was responding to the treatment. Unfortunately because he was on steroids he began eating all kinds of things (other than food) and developed an obstruction in his stomach early February 2018. After days of back and forth imaging the x-rays and sonogram showed a big mass that he was unable to pass. If left untreated, my baby would have passed in a day or two. After consulting with our oncologist to get the go-head for surgery that is where Finlay's "ANGELS" stepped in. Dr. Raciti (who was not working that day but because of my stress levels going through the roof, took time out of her day off to coordinate with Dr. Kornet to get Finlay into surgery first thing). When it was determined all non-invasive options were off the table and surgery was the only option left I KNEW he was in the best care possible between Dr. Raciti and Dr. Kornet. Surgery was a very risky option because Finlay was receiving chemo for his lymphoma and because of that his stitches in all likelihood would not remain closed and he could have died from bleeding. Dr. Kornet did a PHENOMENAL job! He removed all the contents in Finlay's stomach and made sure there was no other obstruction throughout his system. Post op, Dr. Raciti along with her staff took such wonderful care of him while he was in the hospital recovering. My husband and I cannot fully express in words the gratitude we feel to both doctors and their exceptionalism and professionalism in going above and beyond to save our Finlay. Thankfully to them and their staff and to our oncologist at VMCLI Finlay is well and driving us crazy. We wouldn't have it any other way. We consider these doctors like our family because they saved our loved one and continue to care for all our furbabies with compassion and kindness. My family has brought out animals to Mid Island Animal Hospital for many years. When I recently moved away from the Island, I moved my cat to a vet closer to my house. However, for a family vacation, I brought my cat back to Mid Island to be boarded with my parents' dog so they would stay in the same place. It is this boarding experience that has completely changed my opinion of Mid Island. I came home late at night from my vacation to find a notice taped to the door from the department of health saying that the cat bit someone the day prior and had to be confined due to a rabies concern. Mid Island never called to let my family know what had happened, not even a voicemail. Had I been notified immediately I could have gotten a copy of her rabies vaccine information faxed over immediately from my own vet and avoided an extremely distressing notice on the front door at a time when it was too late at night to get a hold of someone. We called the following morning right when Mid Island opened to find out what happened and express our frustration over not being notified by the office prior to getting a department of health notice. The person was helpful over the phone and gave us the fax number to give to my vet to fax over my cat's rabies vaccination information. However, when we got to Mid Island, my decision to end a relationship with Mid Island was sealed by my interaction with Dr. Mary Raciti. When we got in we immediately inquired that the rabies vaccination fax had been received and this was confirmed by an employee behind the desk. Yet when Dr. Mary Raciti called me back to an exam room to discuss, she began explaining the whole situation and the legalities as if I hadn't already known. She also began to explain a policy that they couldn't accept animals for boarding that were not vaccinated (and this is all when I am coming to pick up the cat). Until I explained we already knew and called this morning and faxed over paperwork, she was clueless that the office already had the vaccination information and spoke to us. I don't understand how Mid Island would not communicate this information between employees. When I expressed that my main concern was that no one called us to let us know what happened to avoid this and fax over information immediately, her answer was "the office manager takes care of that." Not the response I was hoping for, nor an apology. In summary, I trusted Mid Island Animal Hospital with my cat for several days and wasn't informed when there was an incident that required them to report the cat to the department of health, which could have been avoided by a simple phone call and fax. And based on my interaction with Dr. Mary Raciti, Mid Island failed to ensure that my cat was vaccinated before accepting the cat for boarding which is where the issue really stems from. And while my cat is vaccinated, it should have been Mid Island's duty as the experts to get in touch with me to make sure and not put other animals in the facility at risk if it was serious enough for them to contact the department of health over a cat bite to an employee who wasn't wearing any type of protection when dealing with a cat they didn't know well. I will not be returning to Mid Island Animal Hospital and cannot express how disappointed I am in them. Read Less

I have had the fortune for the past 30 years of having Dr. Mitchel Kornet of Mid Island Animal Hospital in the life of my many dogs. All the Drs in this practice are wonderful as well as their whole staff. I usually see Dr. Kornet and Dr. Racitti, but I must say that they all are kind, brilliant, caring and nice as could be. My dog Brody recently fell ill with kidney failure. We didnt know if he would recover at all and he is only 2 years old. DR Kornet and the staff did everything that could be done to help him, watch over him, research any new protocols ......... they never gave up, and kept me informed of everything they were doing to get Brody back home to me. They ;let me visit with him every day and made me feel as comfortable as they were trying to make Brody feel loved and in good hands. I almost think they all were as happy as I was today when they called to say he could come home!!! He is not out of the woods entirely, but the vets will follow him closely and I have complete faith in them. They are the best!!! I also have to mention that I expected a ridiculous invoice, as they kept on telling me it would be an expense ( good that they kept on telling me so I wouldnt be shocked), but to my surprise, their bill was extremely reasonable and fair....... I thanked them for this too!!! All in all, I will always have complete faith is this team of wonderful and smart and caring team. A million thanks...... Jane Cardinale Read Less

Bailey definitely improved, but as with congestive heart failure it doesn't get better with time, it sadly only advances. During his last few months we called Dr Robeson, Crosio and Kornet at all hours of the night (sometimes very late) and they would call back in minutes as well as call back later to check in !!! My OWN doctor doesn't even do that!!! As a matter of fact whoever reads this post "does ANY doctor do that???"  No. Only Mid Island Hospital. The office staff were equally compassionate and efficient. They were always polite, patient and helpful whenever we called no matter how frantic we were. One time we called when the office was about to close because we needed to refill his meds. The receptionist called us back twice to make sure the pharmacy filled it so we could have the medications our Bailey needed. Again, excellent service, consideration, and compassionate care.We sadly had to stop Bailey's pain because he was suffering badly. It was Easter Sunday and they were closed. Dr Crosio answered our emergency call  immediately and after much discussion it was agreed to end his suffering that day. She went to the office on Easter Sunday without hesitation while all Vet Hospitals we called were closed. We could have visited the closest animal ER, however, we wanted our Bailey to be cared for at Mid Island. She was so comforting and understanding that it became a peaceful passing with the sun shinning on him through their skylight. Words cannot describe how much we admire everyone at Mid Island Hospital and cherish their loving care and compassion. They are the absolute best and deserve 10 stars !!!! Read Less

Mid Island Animal Hospital is honestly the best animal hospital you can go to. All five doctors are the best at what they do and are the most knowledgeable veterinarians you will ever have the pleasure to meet. I just brought my dog in on Tuesday and she was hospitalized for three days and not only were the staff amazing, caring, kind and wonderful but the veterinarians were all of those things and more! They walked me through every step before doing anything, they discussed treatment plans and what was wrong with my dog in detail, they followed up with specialists and they really worked overtime. The most important thing above all is the vets were HONEST, and were straight forward. Dr. Kornet who owns the practice really makes sure that every client who comes into his practice is getting the best quality care they can get and is getting the best customer service because he employs a caring and loving staff. Dr. Crosio and Dr.Zeifman were so patient and amazing with all of my questions and concerns and really did everything to make sure my Daisy got the best quality care. Dr.Robeson and Dr.Raciti are amazing as well and are so knowledgeable and caring. Even if you see one vet all five work on your case because they all discuss treatment, options and bounce ideas off of each other to create a game plan. If that isn't amazing quality care than I don't know what is. If you are looking for a veterinarian, you HAVE to come here because you will only get amazing quality care, by five of the best veterinarians out there. Dr. Kornet has created an amazing, loving and caring atmosphere for all of his clients and I can't thank Mid Island enough!Read Less

One star is too many because this place was simply awful. The front desk ladies are at least 17 and show no emotion besides being stuck up and snotty- along with the rest of the staff as well. They had us wait over 20 minutes in a tiny, hot room to view our very sick, old and dying dog for 5 minutes in which case they did nothing to help us. If anything, they made us feel as if it was our fault that our 15 year old dog was ill. The vet's assistant even laughed as we walked out because we weren't happy with what she did. As long as they get their money, I suppose. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They are all money hungry and thoughtless. I am not a client of the hospital, but my vet was out of town and my dog was seriously ill and it was an emergency situation. Dr. Kornet saw Janet immediately, provided the best care, stabilized Janet and I was able to take her home the very same day. We could have lost her. She is a diabetic, her blood glucose was dangerously low, she was dehydrated and she was bleeding from her rectum. Not only did Dr. Kornet give Janet the best care possible, he also followed up with me after a few days to check on on Janet to see how she was doing and asked for my vet to call him for follow up. It's rare to get such great care and compassion from a vet these days. Thank you Dr. Kornet, you saved my baby!

Read Less

I took my very sick dog Cookie to them on Friday. She was near death. Dr Raciti correctly diagnosed her quickly and accurately (Addisons often is misdiagnosed) and treated her immediately, got her out of crisis and saved my little girl's life. Laura stayed with her overnight and kept me abreast of everything and she was released by Dr. Z late Saturday. They addressed all the problems and were kind n caring and answered my multitudes of questions completely and in language I could understand. They explained her treatment plan in detail which will b ongoing for the rest of her life. Even the receptionists were extremely nice and helpful. If I could give them 10 stars I would because I will never take my dog anywhere else. Read Less

Cons: Very Pricey but reasonable. They will let you know what test they will do. Pros: Dr. Kornet was nice and professional. Waiting was about 5 min. It was easy making an appointment. Updates: my dog ended up being hoaptalized for a few days but the cost of the hospitalization was not expensive than I thought. Very happy about their treatment and services. I would recommend this place to my family and friends for sure. My dog is much better now. Thanks the Mid Island Animal Hospital! Only reason I brought my dog in this office was it was closed to my house and my dog was not in good condition for a long ride to our regular Vet. I would go to my regular Vet where the cost of examination is not that expensive. Read Less

My dog needed to be taken in for a second visit last year just to receive a rabies vaccination (timing issues). A few months prior he had received a full exam and I had been told he could be brought back in just for the vaccination. Making the appointment I explained I just needed the vaccination. Checking in for the appointment I stated we just needed a vaccination. My fully healthy dog, was charged over $100 for an exam, in addition to the vaccination fees. When I complained one of the doctors made snide, rude comments about my situation to coworkers in front of me. Lack of transparency, communication, and professionalism. Read Less

Ten Stars for Mid Island Hospital !!!! Our dog Bailey, a shitzu mix, was suffering from congestive heart failure. We went through many incompetent Vets during the several years of his worsening condition. When we found Mid Island Hospital and met Dr. Robeson we were so elated with her personal caring approach and expertise.

I have told all of my friends not to go here, you should listen to this advice. I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. Read Less
