Extremely overpriced vets with both little knowledge of a condition called EPI. They only know what their textbooks tell them. Most times i knew more they they did of condition. I have been able to help my dog from online help frown dog owners with same issue and what they have experienced with their vets which has showed me just how little these vets know of condition. Now ive realized just how much time and money i have waisted with them. They even refused to write me a script for my dog that needs constant b12 shots that i could get for roughly 12$ online ...instead i have to get from them for 55$ but hey...somebody has to pay for that brand new building they are putting up right...oh and just a FYI they are ALWAYS behind 30 minutes from your scheduled appointment....save yourself the time energy and money and choose a different vet. They dont care about you or your pet just the money Read Less

I hate that some people had bad experiences with Hopewell Animal Hospital; I have to share that my experience is the opposite. I have three dogs- one very elderly, and two young- and I moved to them because my other vet moved offices. They got me in for initial exams right away, and both Dr. Scheck, and Dr. Buchanan were wonderful! They spent a lot of time with my dogs; they took the time to get to know them before examining them, and I've never seen them more at ease at a vet's office.  After my old man's appointment, Dr. Scheck called me at home to discuss his blood work. I was shocked that the vet himself would take the time to call to explain and discuss my dog's blood work. Furthermore, after my younger dogs visit, Dr. Buchanan called to let me know of an oversight, and my dog is due for vaccinations. Again, I was floored that the vet would call not only to inform me of this small oversight, but to apologize.    Of course it was expensive, but vets are expensive, and they're certainly not more pricey than any other vet I've been to, and I DEFINITELY feel that the price has been worth it. My dogs are like my children, and I felt completely at ease and comfortable with the vets and their staff. They were wonderful!   Side note-I have a 12 month old baby that has to come along, and they helped me wrangle my dog babies and human baby. They gave my son toys and helped me to and from my car. I genuinely feel that they care about their furry patients and their human families. I can't say enough good about them! Read Less

I have been going to this hospital since it opened under Dr. Scheck and Dr. Buchanan - and I've used Dr. Scheck prior to his opening of the hospital. In fact, he's been my vet for over 20 years. I've been through many an animal with Dr. Scheck over the years and some of them have had some pretty heavy duty medical conditions from cancer, to allergies, gastritis, you name it, my dogs and cats have experienced it. I credit Dr. Scheck's knowledge and expertise as to why my animals have lived so long (my dogs have lived on average to the age of 15-16). The office staff is great and they too are very caring.  Their fees are on par with what other veterinarians charge in the area. I'd highly recommend this hospital to anyone that has a pet! Read Less

Hopewell Animal Hospital saved my Sofia!  I called early in the morning because she wasn't breathing well and they squeezed her in right away. As soon as we got there and they noticed her breathing they rushed Dr. Sheck in to check her out. Her quickly diagnosed her with aspirated pneumonia and immediately rushed her into oxygen. She had to spend a couple days there but the girls there were so good to my baby that she couldn't wait to come back for her check up. She is all back to normal and I can't thank them enough!!!  Love you guys. Thanks again!! Read Less

I am very surprised by some of the negative reviews that were posted because my experience with them was really great. I want to start off by saying that they were not my regular vet. I wanted to get a second opinion. My dog was having some issues with a cut on his tail that had gotten worse. I called first thing in the morning and was able to get an appointment two hours later. The first person we met with was Jessie and she took down some background information on the issue and then she came back in with Dr. Scheck. We talked awhile about what was going on and he told me what he'd like to do to see how to best deal with the issue. When it was determined that it would be best that my dog had to have a portion of his tail amputated, Dr. Scheck explained everything that was going to happen before, during, and after the surgery. He was very through and very sensitive toward not only my dog but to me considering this was a possibility that I had known could be the solution but I was nervous about it. I also wasn't expecting them to be doing it same day! This was a pleasant surprise under the circumstances because usually these types of things have to be scheduled which would have meant my dog would have had to be in pain longer. But Dr. Scheck gave my dog his fullest attention. I don't know if it was just a luck of the scheduling or what but whatever it was, I was grateful they were able to take (or make) that much time for my dog. I had to leave my dog for a few hours but Dr. Scheck called me personally to let me know how the surgery went and told me when I could pick my dog up. Upon getting there, Jessie came in and went over all the discharge paperwork and asked if I had any questions, which I did and she went over things as many times as I needed her to until I fully understood. The rest of the staff was excellent as well. Again, this was my first time at this place and the amount of compassion and concern they had for a new customer and my pet was simply outstanding. I am still in awe of their service because most vets ( or just doctors in general) want you in / out, don't spend any time to really talk to you, are vague, and are often just robotic. It's the direct opposite at this animal hospital. And they even made a point to call me the next day to check on my dog. I really liked that personal touch. Was the cost expensive? Yes but I thought it was fair for the service. I don't think they "price gauged". In the grand scheme of things, you wouldn't skimp on cost for a human loved one and any pet owner that cares considers their pet part of the family. And if it's truly a concern, then get yourself some pet insurance. Again, this was my first experience with them so my review is based on this one and only and from it, I would highly recommend any pet owner to go to them. They will care about you and they will care about your pets. After all, isn't that what we all want in a Vet? Read Less

ANIMAL OWNERS!!! BE AWARE!!! AVOID THIS PLACE !!!I would give this place a ZERO if possible, with OWNER BEWARESo my cat has a regular ver, which I take her to. I wanted a holistic exam on an issue, so I called HOPEWELL ANIMAL HOSPITAL located on Rt. 52. When I called, I told them what I was looking for : holistic approach with possible acupuncture treatment. Receptionist stated it was $60.00. I confirmed that price at least three times before scheduling an appt. I schedule the appt, and they said they would block me an hour or so for the visit.Long story short, when I get the bill, they charged me not just $60 for the exam, but also another $225!!! When I inquired, the receptionist had not heard of 'extended holistic exam' and had to ask the vet. She came back and said " it took a long time and you had many questions"... Uh m, yeah, I have questions...what? I get charged by the question now??? I asked to speak with the vet but he would not come out. I left him messages to call and he would not call back. SO EVERYONE BE WARE OF THE HIDDEN FEES THIS FRAUD PLACE DOES. THEY ARE AN OXYMORON PLACE. THEY ARE OUT FOR MONEY VS. Why would you be upset at an extra $200 of additional services???? 3) Dont complain or get upset (they call it irate here and write it lots of times in the charts) when you have a problem, or there will be copious personal notes about you that will be released to you for your next vet to look at, but that at least gets a laugh at your new vet when you point it out to them. 4) Do expect to wait 5 hours for the vet to call you back and suggest Metamucil for your cat, after you have had to cancel your business trip and leave several messages throughout the day. Dr. Buchanan told me she was very busy that day and in meetings. . 5) Dont expect an acknowledgement from the Vet if you have an issue, you can guarantee that the Office Manager will intercept the emails and deal with you. 6) The office manager will not take the time to understand why a customer could have been upset (oops, I mean irate) on so many occasions, instead of learning how to correct their processes she will tell you to take your business elsewhere. Thank goodness, I needed that extra push. 7) Do expect the front desk staff not to understand why you would be calling to inform them that both cats almost ended up in the emergency room from their 3 year booster shots and that you are calling to let them know incase it was a bad batch. 8) I was going to mention the time that we came home with subcutaneous fluids for a sick cat, thinking it was to get him temporarily back on track only to find out this was a daily process for his life, and lose him a few weeks laterbut at this point someone reading this is going to ask why I stayed so long. (I concur) 9) Last but not least, I have just returned from our new vet, who I was not a client of until this morning, but who had been recommended to me by several people, and they got me in immediately, the front desk staff did not have to consult with the doctor if it was ok, recognized it was an emergency and the vet had a diagnosis and treatment done in an hour. 2 follow up calls since, to tell me he is ok and that they emptied what looked like a salt shaker of crystals from his bladder..and this is the issue that I just paid $777 for at Hopewell Animal Hospital a week ago, and was sent home with inconclusive results. Anyone who knows me knows how I am with my animals...they are not just pets, but family. When my Veterinarian of over 20 years was retiring I was on the hunt for a new Doctor for my three dogs, all of which had pre-existing conditions, and two cats, one senior and one with a history of stones. Having worked with all of the vets in the area through my boarding kennel, I had a feel for the all of the local Animal Hospitals. I chose Hopewell Animal Hospital because I was always moved by the loving care my clients received when they had to see the doctor while in my care. I was also very impressed with the wide variety of services offered by Dr. Scheck and Dr. Buchanan. From Laser Therapy to Acupuncture, Holistic Medicine and Chinese Herbs, Hopewell Animal Hospital offers it all. Both Doctors saw my senior Akita, Vixxen on a weekly basis to keep her tired bones and joints as comfortable as possible with acupuncture and laser. If possible, I would give Hopewell Animal Hospital 0 stars. Please, do yourself a favor and do not waste your time or money with this vet.The issue that brought me to the vet: My cat suddenly developed an infection in his mouth that was visually very obvious- His mouth was swollen and could not close all of the way. His tongue would constantly hang out of his mouth and he would drool- He would not let you touch anywhere near his mouth. He was always hiding and had stopped eating.I called Hopewell Animal Hospital, and explained my cat's issue to the receptionist. Luckily, they were able to schedule me an appointment at 11:15 same day. I explained the issue in great detail to the vet (Dr. Buchanan) and voiced concern about there being an infection in his mouth. She opened his mouth for what was a very quick visual examination (She stuck her finger in his mouth long enough to make him open his mouth wide and slam it shut. His mouth was open for only a second or 2, but she felt she had a good enough look). The vet declares she sees nothing wrong with his mouth. I press her for more information (why is it hanging open, why does it look the way it does, why won't he eat, why is it painful to touch it) to which she basically could not give me any response other than to assure me "oh trust me, you get good at looking fast!". I was unconvinced, and tried to press further for information and asked her to specifically look at a certain part of his mouth that, to me looked especially swollen compared to the other side. Again, she offered little information, stated that she "did not see any obvious open sores or anything that would be bothering him in his mouth". She offered no antibiotics and no further diagnostic tests to check for underlying dental issues. Instead, she offered to give him fluids and some vitamins to "perk him up and make him friendly again". Additionally, she offered to do some blood work on him (my suspicion- they were pushing this blood work because of a "sale" they were having for the month of September. 25% off of blood work for senior pets over 7 years of age) I did not see the point to this, but I went ahead with the blood work. The cost of this visit turned out to be a whopping $266! Whoa! That certainly seemed like an insanely steep price to pay, especially when the issue at hand was minimally investigated, and certainly treated in no way.Two days later, I decide to take my cat to East Fishkill Animal Hospital. The vet (Dr Gonzalez) does a proper visual inspection of his mouth and discover 2 fractured teeth (They were bloody and broken down to the root. Obviously painful.) as well as a large abscess in the gum line. She schedules a surgery for the following day (Wednesday) to extract the teeth. The cost of this consultation- $55.  The surgery next day went well-they removed 2 teeth, fixed the abscess, and gave him antibiotics. The cost of all of this? $195.  Total cost for the visit to the second vet? $250. It is my opinion that Hopewell Animal Hospital employ some very incompetent veterinarians. I get the impression that they are only out to make money off of people (pushing blood work because it is "on sale"). They should be ashamed of the prices they charge, and for the fact that my cat was in pain for almost an entire week after visiting their office because the vet completely neglected to notice broken bloody in the cats mouth- "you get good at looking fast!" ...I will never bring my cat back to Hopewell Animal Hospital. Never again.Update:  Hopewell Animal Hospital called to ask why I brought my cat to another vet. I got very emotional telling them how unhappy I was with their service, and how Dr Buchanan completely failed at identifying the broken teeth. I was told that the office manager would call me back and address my concerns: no call came. I called back to follow up and ask for my money back. Again I was assured the office manager would return my call.  Over a week later, and still no call.Update 2: I called again to see why nobody was returning my phone calls. Spoke to the office manager, and was able to be refunded $55 (for the initial cost of the visit). I am glad they refunded some of the money but overall am still not pleased with their service and I will not be returning. Read Less

I don't usually write reviews, but I was so impressed by Hopewell Animal Hospital I had to share my experience with all of my fellow animal lovers. The staff at Hopewell Animal Hospital are absolutely amazing. We just got a brand new Boxer pup and when we brought him in for the first time, everyone came out to greet him with toys, treats, and lots of hugs and kisses! Dr. Scheck is wonderful! He is loving, kind and very informative. He was very patient and understanding of all my questions and concerns as a new puppy mommy, and after he examined my puppy he sat on the floor with him for 15 extra minutes just to try and teach him how to lay down! I highly recommend them to anyone in the area who needs pet care, they are just great! Read Less

Buchanan. Read Less

Dr. Buchanan took her time with my dog and got her to stay calm, especially while clipping her nails. Gave her a thorough checkup as well. Been going there since they opened. Also have seen Dr. Scheck for over 20 years when he first started practicing. I highly recommend going to Hopewell Animal Hospital to get the most comprehensive care around this area. Bob M. Read Less
