I will never use Dix Hills Animal hospital again, they over medicated my dog. On her shots. They even admitted my dog should not have gotten the shots and even reembursted me for the visit and appologised ,Trying to keep me as a client.but when I tried to retrieve my records they became very rude.... I was never planning on going back and told them this, my dog now has a very compromised system,and is very sick, part of which was caused by giving her the shots,this was their admission ,and why they reembursed me. I would highly recommend Dix Hills Animal Hospital as they were wonderful to my Harlee (aka Sparky) Harlee was rescued from Texas during the hurricanes, brought back to NY by a rescue group, and tested POS for heartworm. She stayed in boarding at the vet for a few months until she was better and my family could adopt her from the rescue group. Thanks to all the love and compassion she received while in boarding, she immediately adjusted to home living and we can’t imagine our family without her. We have brought her back for several follow-up visits and she loves going there. They treat her and our family with kindness and compassion. I can’t thank them enough! Dr. Alley really takes the time with me to figure out what's going on with my cocker spaniel. She's scheduled special appointment times with me, called me on my cell phone to explain in further detail things that I was nervous about, and does a full work up each time I'm there, no matter the reason I'm there. Just started coming here little over a year ago  my new rescue Maggie mae pitbull mix ..had some health issues i didnt see coming..dental issues and bad hip dysplasia . Took care of the dental issues nothing really to do on hips but give supplements and keep her happy .they are very caring and loving animal lovers .very patient and understanding with me and my concerns..since then i started taking my other Pitt Zoey there she's strong and healthy other than a couple of allergic reactions with required a shot ..i found a kitten in the middle of the road and brought her her .they did everything they could to save this kitten. Brought my cat there for a dental problem that required anesthesia for tooth removal. The cat was released before any observation to see how she was doing and could not even walk or function properly since the drugs were still in her system and had not worn off even by the time she was brought home. We immediately brought the cat back for observation. The cat was put down three days later by recommendation of another doctor at a different agency because the people at Dix Hills were not qualified or able to deal with the problems, even after over $2,000.00 of charges. I went to Dix Hills Animal Hospital (DHAH) for the first time today. I am moving abroad with my Frenchie and this vet handled everything for me! I moved from Hoboken to my parents house in Dix Hills temporarily until my move and so I had to get information from my old vet for DHAH to do the paperwork. June was a delight to work with. She knows what she's doing for international travel. She even made calls directly to my old vet to save time instead of using me as a middleman. Not only did she work with me closely for the couple days leading up to my appointment to ensure I collected the correct information for my pet, but she handled all the paperwork beforehand so my vet visit was 20 minutes max in and out.I highly recommend this place to anyone that needs to travel with their pet internationally. I have been bringing my baby boy, Vondutch "Dutch" to Dr. Alison Rhein, "Dr. Ali",  since he was 6 months old. Last Wednesday, he celebrated his 10th birthday. He is happy, healthy and playful. That is directly because of Dr. Ali !! Dutch has had 2 knee surgeries and all of his routine medical there. Dr. Ali and the entire staff have always treated Dutch with the love and care. It is very apparent from the time that you walk in the door, that they really do "treat your pet like family". They all really understand the unique bond that we all have with our pets. They always tell me exactly what is wrong, how they will treat it and how to follow up at home. Each and every person on the staff is gentle and loving. What can I say about a place that I almost can call my second home. Dr. Ali, Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Ravitz are always completely thorough and honest with me throughout the years that my Shayna and Nikki have been patients. They know Dr. Ali's name as soon as I say it and they always think that when the door opens there, that it MUST be for them and they run before the girl can even call the next appt. Never had a problem with anyone. Ease of appointments are a great advantage. The doctors are great and do not hurry you out. They take their time and truly care about the patient and the patient's foster parent. If the doctor is unaware of something, they will do their best to get an answer for you. All people are friendly to both the patient and the foster parent. Most of their prices are reasonable. Dr. Greenberg is magnificent! All the doctors are good, but I do prefer Dr. Greenberg. Dr. Ali and the staff at the Dix Hills Animal Hospital are truely amazing. Always friendly and polite, whether in person or over the phone. And always very accommodating! Dr. Ali has helped me treat my dog's thyroid disease for the last 7 years, and has recently diagnosed her diabetes. She has worked with me through financial difficulties, so that I am able to properly care for my pet. I knew from that first exam all those years ago that this was who I wanted taking care of my baby. I share the same feeling with three other reviewer's on yelp, regarding the attitude i had received while having a sick pet seen there!  I wish i had read this site rather their facebook site, as I believe they have that one 'rigged'! Too many settings and or their DVM are too busy promoting 'Ravitz, poodle dog, on youtube!!!' The lady with a huge attitude for no reason at all...very unprofessional entire staff in the front as well!  Paying near $1200 for a visit and follow up you would think the veterinarian's would give you more than five minutes of their time?  They are just in it for $$$If i had a choice of giving them '0' stars i'd do it to warn all possible future clientelle to stay clear!  They went into the wrong profession truly, agreed staff could have taken a dowling business class on mannerisms/psychology as i was ailing over my pet and Ravitz had the audacity to snap at me literally and say: "this is not a going to be a good working relationship!!!!  You cannot tell me what to do...i really need some time to forgive myself in bringing my pet to the gas chamber there.  I thought i could trust them with my dog there but never again...sad to say i learned the hard way!  And my dog had passed under their care and stupid referral!  Go to plainview veterinary specialists pay a little more this place is better!Not like Dix Hills Animal hospital ** '@killing your pet than truly wanting to help!'  And don't go to their facebook those reviews are rigged. My English Bulldog was having issues that needed to be addressed and my usual Vet was just not as useful as I wanted. I ended up switching to the Dix Hills Animal Hospital and made an appt. I needed up having to come in a day earlier because of an emergency with my pup. The staff greeted me and got me in to see the doctor fairly quickly. The Doctor was very sweet and you could tell that she truly cared. Long story short they were able to schedule a surgery for my pup for the following day and even allowed me to speak to the surgeon over the phone in case I had any concerns or questions. Thankfully the surgery went well. Only having been a patient/client of theirs for just over 48 hours, I already feel like Ive known the staff for years. This is a state of the art facility with two generations of knowledge in practice in addition to both generations having  trained and been awarded their Medical doctorate at what is widely considered  the top Veterinarian Program in the USA Cornell University.        Dr. Rhein is incredibly talented as well as a compassionate human being, and true lifelong animal lover, just like us.. Hard to find a doctor that is both. Her compassion has delivered me in safe mental health as well as my animals in top physical health. I have had only the best care for my many pets over these two decades of having Dr. Rhein service my needs. She is waiting room compassionate but  also highly skilled surgeon you can trust her to make the right decisions when you are not there. I only wish this hospital were closer to me, I can trust no one else with my pets so it is worth the trip, I had only bad expensive and botched experiences before finding this very exclusive (like Dix Hills) where both dogs and cats have received top line treatment. Places like this make sick. First incident was a few yrs. ago I had a 165lb rottweiller He needed to be sedated in order to clip his nails on a recommendation from a real animal lover and my sisters friend I brought him their. I was done in less then a half hour, the problem you ask, well his nails didnt get clipped and he recieved blood work and testing that was not needed and I received a bill for almost $500.00 I also received an estimate for more tests and preventative medicine for $1700.00. I was totally disgusted. Now onto recently, my sisters dog had a stroke and died. I being the brother and uncle it was my job to bring her to the vet while my sister got my niece and nephew from school to see her one more time. I arrived with the dog and received a tiny attitude fro a receptionist not a big deal nobodies perfect. I was given a form and told her I would fill it out best i could but its my sisters dog she getting the kids to say bye. After about 5 minutes she asked if the form was finished I said no I told you my sister has to fill it out to which she replied ok well who's paying? OHHH REALLY is that the big issue right now? I'm disgusted if the owner wanted to be rich they should have become a brain surgeon and not a vet. You become a vet out of love for animals and people who love their animals not to take over the family business. I hope this place goes out of business they are a disgrace. I went back to my family vet at fort hill and they were so nice when my dog the rottweiler had cancer and died. I only left fort hill because the vet I used for my rotty since i had him left. Can I give ZERO STARS?  After having been recommended to DHAH, I took my 12 year-old cockerpoo for a $70 medicated bath.  My dog has some allergies and skin issues so when dropping him off, I made it very clear that he would start "chewing himself" if he was left without his cone on his head.  "No problem" I was told.  When I arrived 3 hours later to pick him up, not only was I charged $230 for services that I didn't authorize but the poor dog chewed himself down to the bloody bone on both hindquarters.  Needless to say, it was a completely disgraceful display of veterinary care and coupled with the unauthorized "upsell", I gave the doctor and staff a four-letter laced description of my feelings.  The flippant doctor was very matter-of-fact in telling me that my dog "chewed himself a little". You should see the poor old guy...and now, instead of being able to go away for a few days during the holidays and being able to leave the dog with a friend, my family and I can't go because the dog has to be tended to...Thanks Dix Hills Animal Hospital!
